9. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
10. The social group I had in mind when I created my magazine was a slightly
younger rebellious group, aged 16-44 in which, stereotypically a typical rap
lover, seen as a bad influence to the community and who would be interested
in the influences that rappers force upon them, such as guns, women and
money.
Rap/ hip hop music is a culture and can have an effect and influence on the
youth through the gangster rap attributes it has, although commercial hip
hop can be not all bad.
Through research I found that rap is all about social conscious and
controversy against things that may not be questioned by others. The
audience I aimed my magazine to are socially conscious people who share
experiences as rappers, it is a very underground magazine but would have a
wide population audience due to the success in the rap industry.
Rap/Hip hop has a lot of racial and political controversy and so, is right for
people that like to hear a stand being taken place.

12. What is Representation:
Representation is how and
individual or group is conveyed
by a producer or „higher
person‟ in the ideas of there
own.
Looking at the pictures, this is a
rough outline of the audience my
magazine will seek to pull in.
Keep the dress code fresh and
young no matter the age, like to
hang round in groups and love
parties.
They wear clothing that makes
them look good and also
expensive, designer brands that
will be used to show off, such as
„True Religion‟ jeans.
13. I chose to do my photos like this as there is a message to them and they
show many connotations.
The image on the left shows power to the audience, with the sign of a salute
to the people which is a very strong gesture.
My model is being represented as a rapper due to the salute which are
commonly used by rappers which associates him as one. I decided that he
should wear the jumper as it would match the colour of my magazine
colours and is similar to the style of the rapper my model is trying to
convey.
14. After viewing other existing magazines, I analysed the text
style used and how it relates to the audience. I noticed
that hip/hop terms and slang where used and also punch
lines and quotes, so it was very informal.
I though about how I would write my article and as a
young influential audience of hip hop, I thought I should
write it in a urban type style.
I used quotes, slang and little slogans throughout my
article and also acronyms to shorten certain words.
The design is simple but stylish of my overall magazine.
Red and white are the house colours with unique fonts and
styles throughout as young people like brighter colours
and my main target audience will be for the youth with the
exception of adults.
16. In the creation of my magazine I used many skills
to attract the audience.
The use of language and text was important for
my style of magazine as it was for an informal
audience and so I had to take into consideration
the fact that they may not spend a lot of time
reading. The use of language was short and
simple which helped to attract the reader get the
main details of the article without any
unnecessary information that may result in the
loss of interest by the reader.
With the use of slang this would help attract the
audience with use of relation.
17. I thought about how the design will have an influence over the audience
and so I don‟t my front cover in the way it currently is.
I done it like this as it has a main image, (as well as the double page
spread), and has very little text, but includes important information such
as artists which are located on the front cover in bold.
The use of colouring is also very important, simple colours are used to
grab the readers attention but colours are not overcrowded and so I
used colours such as red, black and white.
The double page spread has simple rows or text and also 2 main
images and so there is a fair balance of imagery to text which will not
bore the reader.
I created a survey to find out what people like on a front cover of a
magazine and this is which influenced my final design. The survey read
that red was a most favoured colour and also and good balance of text
to imagery was liked for majority.
As pages are usually read from top to bottom, more of the important
information is at the top such as eyebrow, masthead and the feature
magazine content, and from left to right which is why text is on the left
and big imagery on the right. (Front Cover)
18. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
19. I used a range of different programs to put my
magazine together.
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Photoshop
HD Camera
The Internet
Wordpress
Laptop/Computer
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Powerpoint
Google
Computer
20. All of the programs were available to use and
after a while I got used to them. All the
programs were accessible and after tutorials
and with help of the teacher when getting
used to the program it became easy to use
which aloud me to construct my magazine.
21. Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
22. Over the period of this course I have improved my general
knowledge in production of magazines, also learning
terminology that I did not know of before. I have learnt how
to correctly layout a magazine and also how to use
professional programs such as InDesign to create a
magazine.
I have also learnt about the impact of photo‟s and through
the help of a photo shoot I done I learnt how I can represent
people in photos to be represented in a certain way, showing
dominance through eye contact etc. My preliminary excursive
was very simple the overall design making it look incomplete,
and also things like slogans where missing.
I feel I have learnt enough to have a complete magazine and I
am proud of my work.
