Nike Advert Evaluation
1. Evaluation
The Advert that me and my group produced was an advert for Nike, advertising there
footwear and clothing. This advert shows an individual play varies sports whilst wearing the
Nike clothes and shoes, showing that the things the individual is wearing is improving
his/her performance
Format
The advertwe producedisina product image format,asin the advertthe product ismade to be
perceivedasaproduct that will helpimprove anindividual’ssportingabilitiesthroughoutvaries
sports,whichistryingto indicate thatthisproductis more superiortootherproducts/brands.
Furthermore the indicationof the clothesandshoesimprovingsportingabilitymaynotbe entirely
factual,as the individualinthe advertmaybe a highlyskilled individual sothe advertismanipulating
the audience intobelievingthatthe productwill helpthembecomebetteratsports.
Style
The style of our advertwas lifestyle,asitrepresentsalifestyleof anindividual whodoesvaries
sportson a dailybases.The individual hasanactive lifestyle,sothe advertsuggeststhatthe Nike
clothesandshoeshe/she wearshelpsimproveperformance. Inadditionusinglifestylehelped
promote the productbecause manypeople wouldbe inspiredtohave a sportylifestyle were they
are an athlete orfootball,soare more likelytowanttobuy Nike product.
Codesand Conventions
Cameraangles- there were variescameraanglesusedthroughoutthe advert,theseincludethe
followingmediumshots,close upsandpanning.These shotswereusedforcertainshotsasthey
were suitable fordifferentsceneswithinadvertalsousingvariesshotsmade the advertmore
interestingandengagingforthe audience.
Editing- toeditouradvertwe usedApple Mac’susingthe IMovie applicationto cutsome of the
unwantedfootage thatwasrecordedandalsoto add the musicwe selected,Kanye ‘Power’within
the backgroundof the advertto make itmore engagingandinteresting.Furthermore we added
some effectsforwhenthe scene changessothatthe advertflowedina smoothmotionsothat it
was betterexperience forthe audience whentheyview it.
Lighting- duringthe shootingof the advert,there wasnoneedforanyadditional lightingsuch asbox
lightsthisisbecause the lightswithinthe room were sufficientenoughforthe scene tobe clear
whilstrecording.The lightinginthe filminglocationwascontrollable byapanel inthe filming
location,whichwaslocatednearthe doorand the lightinginthe roomcouldbe adjustedif needed
throughthis panel.
Music- We decidedasgroupthat Kanye West‘Power’wasan appropriate songtouse inthe advert
as the lyricsfitwell withthe scene we were tryingtocreate,like anintenseandcompetitive scene,
as whenplayingsportsthere isalwaysanaspect of competitive drive.
2. Techniques
The technique thatwasusedinour advertwas selectiveadvertising,aswe onlyshowedthe product
ina positive light,indicatingtothe audience that Nike clothesandshoesare the bestforimproving
sportingperformance.Alsotherewasthe lifestyle Fantasyusedwithinouradvert,asmanyyoung
people aspire tobe a sportspersonandhave a lifestyleof afootball player,basketballplayerora
runner.The purpose of usingLifestylefantasyisthatthe our groupbelieveditwouldhelpencourage
individualstopurchase the products,whichwouldmeanmore sales,sowouldmeanthe advertwas
effectiveatpromotingthe brandandproduct.
Characteristics ofproducts/services
The benefitofferedisthatNike iswell-establishedbrandandknownforitsquality.Furthermore
Nike offersaloyaltyscheme sothatif customerscontinue buyingNike productstheyreceivea
discountandare informedof all offers.Inadditionone of Nike unique sellingpointisthattheyhave
all the latestdesignsandcoloursof shoesandalsothe customercan pre-orderbrandnew trainers
before theyare released.

Our advertwe have producedmeetsall of the regulationsetof byASA.
Strengths
Duringthe productionof the adverttime managementwasstrengthof the group,as eachof the task
were completedinthe allocatedtime discussed.Thismeantthatthe projectwascomplete ontime
and meantno furthermoneyortime wasneededtobe spent. Budgetingforthe advertwasa
strengthof the projectas we did notexceedare plannedbudgetwhenproducingthe advert,which
meantno needfortryingto gainadditional fundsoradelayinproductionof the advert.In addition
strengthof our advertisthat it meetsthe needsof the projectasadvertisesthe productandalsothe
brand andalso there isthe relative documentsneededtoshow how the advertwasproducedand
that all regulationswere met.
Weaknesses
Editingwasweaknessas none of usin the group knew how touse the IMovie software toedit.This
meantwe had do some researchtolearnhow to use the IMovie software toeditourmovie anduse
the otherfeature inthe application,likeputtingmusicinthe backgroundof our advertso thatour
advertcouldbe complete toa highstandard. Anotherweaknesseswastryingtoobtainaccessto the
filminglocation,thiswasbecause the filminglocationwasconstantlyinuse byotherpeople.This
meantthat ittook a fair amountof time tryingto arrange an appropriate time thatwe couldfilmin
the filminglocation.Thismeantthatthere wasaslightdelayinfilminghoweverasa groupwe made
sure that the projectcarriedas plannedsothat the advertwas finishedontime.
3. Conclusion
Overall Ifoundthe projectto be enjoyablebutalsochallenging,asthere are manyaspectsto
producingan advertsuchas the pre-production, filmingof the advert andeditingof the advert.The
experience of workinginagroupand producinganadvertwas good,as duringchallengingtimes
there wassupportfrom the individualsinyourgroup,thismeantthatissuescouldbe resolvedmore
quickly,thoughthe discussionof idea.Thishelpedwithkeepingthe projectflowingsothatit
finishedontime. Furthermore Ifoundthe projecttoentail alotof work,howeverthiswas
manageable because of workinginagroup,as the taskcould be dividedupamongstthe individuals
inthe groups.
Nexttime Iwouldthinkaboutarrangingthe locationforshootingalot earlierinthe project,asI now
knowthat itcan take a bit of time findingasuitable time forshootingif the locationisinuse by
otherpeople.Inadditionnexttime Iwouldmake sure thatthere wasat leastone individual within
the group whowas familiarwithhowtoedit,sothatno time has tobe wastedresearchinghow to
edit.Alsohavingapersonwhoknowshow to editislikelytomeanabetteradvert,whichisupto a
higherstandard,asthe individual knowshow toeditwell.
