FINAL PRODUCT
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
1 In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
I believe my magazine does use aspects of a real media magazine
for example my contents page. The majority of contents pages
have the same layout where there the second main story of the
magazine has a large picture placed at the top of the contents
page which has a banner to separate the picture from the
writing. I used this exact layout for my contents page.
I understand that the human eye flow flows from left to right
when they first look at something and I have noticed that all
magazines place their logo in the top left hand corner where
they believe it will always be seen. I also decided to place my
logo (masthead) in the top left hand corner. Where I believe it
will be visible for readers.
Mainly magazines try to have a consistent colour theme
throughout the magazine with very little colour. This is the main
aspect where I decided to be different and include lots of
random colours as I feel we are a random colourful and jolly
generation that doesn’t follow the usual rules and I believe the
readers would agree.
2 How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Representation Of Particular Social
Groups.
I believe my magazine represents those who
read it in a way that shows their wealth. if you
read this magazine people will know that you
are looking to attend festivals and the average
festival experience costs around £500.
I also believe that it shows the younger
generation in a better way as the magazine is
extremely colourful which shows the reader is a
jolly person.
3 What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?
Media Institution
Mixmag is the worlds leading dance music
magazine which is also produced in London,
England. The institution that distribute mixmag
are Development Hell Limited and I believe that
if Development Hell have managed to distribute
the worlds leading magazine so successfully
then it should be fairly easy for them to
distribute my magazine which is also a dance
music magazine specifically focusing on Drum &
Bass and House music.
4 Who would be the audience for
your media product?
Audience
The audience for my media product from teenagers aged
16- adults aged around 23/24. regardless of what your age
may be if you enjoy attending festivals that cater for house
or Drum & Bass fans then you will enjoy this informative
music magazine.
I did not try to target a certain gender Drum & Bass and
House are both completely unisex music genres so I
wouldn’t have been able to concentrate on a specific
gender when creating my magazine.
The class of people I tried to target through my magazine
were those who attend many festivals during summer
which would be able to afford a magazine like this
regardless of how much it would cost due to the fact that
they either had well off parents or they were working for
their own money.
5 How did you attract/address
your audience?
Attracting Audience
I understand that my audience are young and I tried to
use as little text as I could as I understand we are a
generation of pictures and not words. However there
were times when I had to include text so I tried to use
abbreviations such as D&B instead of saying Drum and
Bass.
My market research was taken specifically on the type of
people I suspected would buy my magazine and many
said that they would like to see a colourful magazine as
we can clearly see that the youth of today area very
colourful generation.
So I then made my magazine extremely colourful.
6) What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Technologies
The main thing I have learnt which I believe will help me in my future
is the ability to upload PowerPoint presentations onto websites and
blogs using SlideShare.
Here is how you would upload a PowerPoint presentation:
Upload PowerPoint
Copy code
Embed code (paste) into a
post on your blog
7) Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
Preliminary Task
Looking back at my preliminary task I believe I have
learnt that you need to use all the time that you
have instead of leaving all things to the last minute,
which is what I unfortunately did for my preliminary
task.
On my preliminary task I didn’t have time to include
my magazine cover, contents page or double page
spread as I spent so much time on them trying to
perfect them that I forgot that I hadn't uploaded
them onto my blog and ended up missing the
deadline.
