The film challenges several social stereotypes in its representation of different groups. It features a young boy, Archer, in the lead role who is in danger, reversing the typical damsel in distress trope. Archer is shown as powerful through camera angles and the focus on him in most shots. A woman takes on a threatening role, challenging the idea that women need saving. The film also portrays teenagers in a nuanced way, showing a typical party scene where they are not moody troublemakers and accept those who dress differently. However, it also confirms some stereotypes around women having less screen time and defined roles.

1. HOW DOES OUR FILM
REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS
Eden Clark
2. Men
Our film revolves around a young boy, Archer.
He has the most screen time, and is followed
throughout the scenes.
We challenge normal stereotypes with Archer
as he is in danger, in most horror stories
there’s a damsel in distress, who calls upon a
boy for help.
We show that Archer is very important
(positive representation) as he is the focus of
nearly every shot.
3.
4. In some scenes we look up to Archer, this
changes when we’re in his room, when the
girls about to arrive the camera looks down on
him, showing the change of power.
Another representation of him is his room,
which has posters which are more girly, this
challenges the stereotype of a normal teenage
boy.
5.
6. Women
In the film a women is the danger, challenging
the normal stereotype- women need saving.
She puts archers life at risk. She also wears
the crucifix, (iconography- horror) which is the
main prop, showing she’s very important. She
has a close up, and the camera looks up to
her.

8. The other girls have little screen time. One girl
cleans up, while Archer stands back, and
another offers to help. This conforms the
stereotype women clean, and aren’t as
important as men. The fact that women don’t
have much screen time all together shows that
men are more important, and have a bigger
role in society.
9.
10. Young People
Our media shows that teenagers like to party,
and don’t cause a lot of trouble, our party
represents the average teenager. They wear
normal clothes (mise-en-scene), each
teenager wears different clothes too (e.g. one
Mosher) to show they are all the same. Going
against the stereotype that teenagers are
prejudice against people that dress differently.
Overall the party scene defies the stereotype
that teenagers are moody and trouble causes
(although later on Archer conforms to the
moody stereotype).
