We used a female as a hero and the victim in our film as within the thriller genre it is usually a women who is being followed or in a bad situation and so on. So we decided to follow the codes and conventions and have a girl being the character of the hero and victim. We used a male character to play the villain as this again follows the codes and conventions within a thriller movie, and when watching a thriller it is usually a male who is playing the ‘bad guy.’
In our sequence it ends with the hero leaving the house then immediately screaming, so the audience are left not knowing what has happened which will draw them in and make them want to watch this thriller movie. The audience will not know weather ‘Jayne’ are hero is dead or alive.
Right – Main girl from taken (the victim) Left – Jayne the victim in our filmBoth of these look like normal outgoing girls and look like they haven't done anything wrong to deserve what will happen them throughout both the thrillers. The girl from the movie ‘taken’ is a normal teenage girl who just wants to have fun but ends up being taken and used for a prostitute and things like that. Our character ‘Jayne’ will be similar as she hasn’t done anything wrong yet she is being captured and taken to a room where she will have to figure out ways to escape.
We picked Jayne to play the main part as she connects with the audience. A young teenage girl will attract teenage social groups to watch this thriller movie as she is their age range which could make them feel it could happen to them and draw them in. It makes it look like teenagers are vulnerable and represents them as being the type of people that this could happen to. It represents males as being some kind of ‘physco’ as the male gender in usually used as being the villain.
