2. Question 3
Do you see your product as being a big budget blockbuster or an independent film?
Our film would be an independent film as it is a typical rom-com with very stereotypical
scenes and characters. This means it is character based and also has no special effects.
This means lots of money will be saved because it won’t need to be spent on this or
more detailed promotions.
Are there any similar films being distributed at the moment?
There are no similar films being released at the moment. This is good for our film
because it’s different and therefore means people will be more likely to be intrigued by
it and then watch it.
Have you thought about online distribution? Might this work for your film? How? Why?
We think online distribution would be good for our films success. This is because our
target audience is young adults and teenagers. These people are more likely to have
access to have the internet and will use it regularly. This means they are more likely to
be the people to download the film. The film will become more successful because of
this as we will get more views. This may encourage people to watch and buy in the long
run. Finally, there are more outlets for people to do this so it’s easier overall. For
example, everyone has seen or heard of things like ITunes, Netflix or Love Film.
3. Question 6
Throughout the making of the opening of our film we have learnt and experienced many
different things and approaches to things. Each one of us as an individual have had a
chance at filming, editing, researching, planning and organising different parts of our film.
Filming was also a new experience for us all and some of us found it particularly difficult.
At first we only planned it so that two people would film, however everyone got the
chance to film in the end, Joe and Alex especially as when someone wasn’t involved in
many scenes then they would film. Filming, once we were used to the equipment, was
quite easy. We learnt how to film, take pictures, dispose of old film, play back recorded
scenes and how to upload it to a computer. Overall, we learnt quite a lot while filming.
Previously, we hadn’t been given the chance to edit anything before due to not needing to
or lack of software, so this was a helpful experience for us all as we all had the chance to
try it out. At the beginning we experimented with the editing by trying out different
transitions, cropping and organising scenes which was admittedly hard at first as a lot of
re-organising and filming had to be done but having learned from our mistakes, we
managed to finish the film which eventually made sense and to a good standard.
4. Question 6 Continued..
Good points we found were:
Once knowing how to use the cameras, they were quite simple and surprisingly straight
forward.
Use of a Mac made things very easy to edit.
Overall, we gained knowledge and experience.
Bad points we found were:
Garage Band software was difficult to use at first as we found it quite complex.
Losing work on a regular basis and filming was easy to tape over on the cameras.
Uploading was complicated at times as we had to import/export files.
At first, using a Mac made things slower and complex.
Blogs were often difficult to access and use at the start of the project.
