The ionized galactic wind from NGC 253 emerges from its central 100 pc region and has a central axis approximately in the plane of the sky. Observations of the [NII] emission line at 205 microns from this barred galaxy reveal an outflow speed of 100-150 km/s, establishing the importance of the starburst-driven wind in limiting the star formation activity and the final stellar content. The molecular gas in the wind can be directly measured using tracer molecules, allowing the mass outflow rate to be estimated at 4-10 solar masses per year. This implies a ratio of mass outflow to star formation rate of at least 1:1, establishing the importance of the starburst-driven wind in regulating the

The document discusses the results of a study analyzing COVID-19 case data from March to May 2020 across different US states. It finds that states that implemented stay-at-home and business closure orders earlier and more aggressively were more effective at reducing disease spread. However, lifting restrictions too quickly led to a rise in cases in some states. The precise timing of reopening is important to avoid a resurgence of infections.

The document summarizes the events surrounding the June 1966 military coup in Argentina that overthrew the democratically elected government of Arturo Ulla. Student protests against the coup rapidly grew across the nation's universities and encouraged hundreds of professors and students to rally against the new military regime's definition of "democracy." The expansive campaign, called "Cordobazo," aimed to forge a modernizing autocracy that would change society from above by quelling competing institutions and expanding the military's powers. While the Cordobazo drove students out of the formal university scene, it also politicized wider issues and encouraged alternative forms of protest against the regime's restrictions on personal freedoms.

This study examined the impact and levels of heavy metals in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants which were engineered to detect and respond to heavy metal stress. Plants were grown under controlled laboratory conditions with increasing concentrations of cadmium and lead to determine their ability to sense and respond to heavy metal exposure. The transgenic plants were able to detect and reverse heavy metal-induced damage to their DNA in correlation with metal concentrations, demonstrating their potential as bioreporters for the presence of heavy metals in soil and water systems. Preliminary data showed these transgenic plants could be useful bioreporters for detecting heavy metals in the environment.
