People often use influence and manipulation interchangeably as at the end of the
day, both words basically mean getting someone to do something you want them
to do. However, these two words have different connotations.
In our interviews and online questionnaire, we posed the question of “what is one thing you would like to find out more about influencing others?”
We received numerous responses such as, “Is the result of influencing more of a positive or negative aspect?”, “Do
people know if I’m manipulating them or influencing them?”, “How to be a positive influencer”, and “Knowing the tools
and methods available in order to positively influence another.”
Which is why we’re training on positive influence today, and clarifying the difference between manipulation
and influence first.

An essential element in building strong relationships is your willingness to engage in conversations that support children’s sense of self, that let them know they are safe and honored exactly as who they are. Children live in a world that sends multiple, stereotype‑laden messages about their comparative value, their right to be visible, and how they are expected to behave based on their economic class, ethnicity, gender, abilities, racial identity, and religion. These overt and covert messages affect their own sense of self‑worth and how they think about people who are different. Avoiding conversations about identity and fairness is a disservice to children who are developmentally dependent upon adults to help them make sense of the complex and contradictory societal messages they receive.
When programs do not demonstrate respect for and acknowledgement of human diversity, children and families cannot feel truly seen or honored. When a teacher avoids directly addressing comments or behaviors that can hurt another child, no child feels safe. Keeping silent not only does not help children, it actively hurts them. Learning how to break this silence, how to talk about anti‑bias issues with clarity, courage, and caring, is an essential skill not only in the world of early childhood education but in the world at large. But to arrive at a quality decision when faced with numerous other solutions then the key to be effective are efficient and quality decision is education (Vila, L. E. 2000). Due to the fact of education that plays a very critical role in decision-making processes. People often use influence and manipulation interchangeably as at the end of the
day, both words basically mean getting someone to do something you want them
to do. However, these two words have different connotations.
In our interviews and online questionnaire, we posed the question of “what is one thing you would like to find out more about influencing others?”
We received numerous responses such as, “Is the result of influencing more of a positive or negative aspect?”, “Do
people know if I’m manipulating them or influencing them?”, “How to be a positive influencer”, and “Knowing the tools
and methods available in order to positively influence another.”
Which is why we’re training on positive influence today, and clarifying the difference between manipulation
and influence first.

An essential element in building strong relationships is your willingness to engage in conversations that support children’s sense of self, that let them know they are safe and honored exactly as who they are. Children live in a world that sends multiple, stereotype‑laden messages about their comparative value, their right to be visible, and how they are expected to behave based on their economic class, ethnicity, gender, abilities, racial identity, and religion. These overt and covert messages affect their own sense of self‑worth and how they think about people who are different. Avoiding conversations about identity and fairness is a disservice to children who are developmentally dependent upon adults to help them make sense of the complex and contradictory societal messages they receive.
When programs do not demonstrate respect for and acknowledgement of human diversity, children and families cannot feel truly seen or honored. When a teacher avoids directly addressing comments or behaviors that can hurt another child, no child feels safe. Keeping silent not only does not help children, it actively hurts them. Learning how to break this silence, how to talk about anti‑bias issues with clarity, courage, and caring, is an essential skill not only in the world of early childhood education but in the world at large. The most probable advancements that I have come to discover that any society can accomplish are: the improvements that come about with the attainment of the ability to be an independent thinker and make independent decisions. The advancements that comes about as a result of the improved positions that can be attained through education. (Rihani,M. A. 2006). The ability to overcome the existing and emerging superstitions within a society and finally, the attainment of a broad exposure, the result of which is the evolution of the society as a whole.
It is widely known that to make practical decision in any situation various things come into play. But to arrive at a quality decision when faced with numerous other solutions then the key to be effective are efficient and quality decision is education (Vila, L. E. 2000). Due to the fact of education that plays a very critical role in decision-making processes. For the one aspect that ensures one can think logically and ensures that one can put an adequate plan before making any move that may prove to be erratic. A person who is knowledgeable and learns to find it easy to both plan and arrive at an informed decision and to attain this, education is the engine through which one can manage and eliminate the influences within their surrounding. That could prevent his or her to make a decision independent of other influences as they can comprehend biased and unbiased influences.

resignations, ineffective leaderships, and
an atmosphere of animosity (Hallet,
2009).

knowing, gossip can provide information that the

who share common interests, and establishes a line
between insiders (i.e. “us) and outsiders (i.e. “them”).

internal police. Summing this up, we find that
whatever reasons a person has in engaging in
gossip, it is fueled by some or all of the social

intimacy, and (4) influence. (Foster, 2004).

Dual Nature of Gossip (Beneficial and harmful)
Hafen (2004) fascinatingly presented what she believed to
be the “gossip-information revolving door”, suggesting
that a piece of news can be converted to either gossip or
information depending on the organization’s perception
of the political pressure that the gossip or information
brings.

When management chooses to convert gossip into
information, it is because it is viewed as beneficial to
the organization. The conveyor of the news is seen as
exhibiting an “organizational citizenship behavior”;
meaning that the transmission of the gossip or
information is with the intention of benefitting the
organization.

On the other hand, the transporter of a piece of
news may be viewed as demonstrating a
workplace deviant behavior. That is, the
transmission of the gossip is seen as harmful to
the organization. In this case, management
normally chooses to label and convert the
information as gossip.

This is probably why no workplace is ever completely rid
of gossip. The conversion of gossip into information
legitimizes it. If this occurs consistently, it can signal that
management accepts and tolerates gossiping in the
workplace. Frequent translation of information as gossip

(insecurities, inferiorities and superiorities) we
have in life.

reactions that he or she receives from
significant others during social interaction.
One of the components of self-concept is
known as self-worth or self-esteem. This is
how an individual perceives himself, or what
he thinks about himself.
44. Another component is self-image. This is
important for good psychological health and is
an effect of how a person thinks, feels, and
behaves in the world. The third and final
component is the ideal self. This is a reflection
of who an individual would like to be. It is
dynamic, and consists of goals and ambitions
in life

struggle to cope with anxieties.
Self-protective mechanisms that address the need to cope
against anxieties become a permanent part of one’s
personality. Horney (1945) saw anxiety not as inevitable but
rather as a result of social forces. As human beings, our
essential challenge is to be able to effectively relate with
others.
46. The first neurotic trend, compliant personality
(moving toward), comprise of those who are
needy or clingy, seeks for approval, affirmation,
acceptance and love from others.
47. The second neurotic trend, aggressive
personality (moving against) are characterized
as difficult, domineering and unkind, display
hostility and has the need to control other
people.
48. The third neurotic trend, detached
personality (moving away) are those who are
labeled as indifferent, cold, aloof and displays
antisocial behavior or those with no remorse.
49. Axiom 3: Man is a social being
Man is by nature a social animal. With this nature,
man will have the ultimate desire to be accurate,
making it inevitable not to compare himself with
others. People constantly engage in social
comparisons.
50. Axiom 4: The structure of the
gossip episode includes support
Eder (1991) posits that the life of a particular
gossip is dependent on the support it gets
from the people it is shared with.
51. In Eder’s (1991) basic structure of a gossip
episode, one can view that after the
identification and the evaluation of the target, a
“response” is needed. It must be noted that the
mere act of responding already signifies social
support. Thus, the life of gossip is hooked to the
social support it gets..
52. Axiom 5: Relationship ties affect the
propensity to Gossip.
The findings of Grosser et al (2010) indicate
that, in the organizational workplace, positive
gossip flows among both expressive friendship
ties and required instrumental workflow ties.
53. The nature of gossip is a projection of the
gossiper’s life issues which are basically
grounded on his overall self-concept and
reflected in his anxieties. The poorer the self-
concept is, the higher the level of complexes (i.e.
inferiority and superiority). The higher the level
of complexes, the more anxious a person
becomes.
54. Gossip runs on social support. Without
social support, the transfer of information
is halted and the gossip ends.
55. The compliant personality is the gossiper
who gossips for acceptance, affirmation and
love. This gossip purpose focuses on
friendship/intimacy, and entertainment.

trend have more tendencies to gossip
manipulatively and maliciously. The detached
personality is the one who is inclined to
gossip for information.
57. Because man is a social being, and
gossip is a social activity, everyone,
then, has a propensity to gossip.
58. To refuse to respond to gossip and
effectively denying it of social support is
the surest way to stop gossip in its tracks.
While the “soul” of gossip is in a person’s
self-concept, its “heart” is in the social
support it gets.
