This study tested untested skin care lotions and creams on prison inmates over 30 days with repeated sunlamp exposures, developing a "patchwork" effect on their skin. It violated ethics by not allowing inmates to opt out or ensuring their safety. The data should not be used as prisoners could not give informed consent. Guidelines were proposed to better protect vulnerable populations in future research.
