How to Teach Students to
Avoid Plagiarism
• Well defined assignments.
• Teach students to use a writing process that includes:
note taking skills, how to paraphrase, draft and revise.
• Model several times the steps to paraphrase. This is a
skill and teachers and students alike must practice.
• Discuss the consequences of plagiarism.
