Essays On Nature Vs Nurture
Writing an essay on the intricate topic of "Nature vs Nurture" is undeniably a challenging task.
The complexity lies not only in the extensive research required but also in navigating the
philosophical, psychological, and scientific realms that this debate encompasses.
To begin with, delving into the historical context of the nature vs nurture debate demands a
comprehensive understanding of the evolving perspectives over time. From the early
philosophical musings of Plato and Aristotle to the contemporary scientific advancements in
genetics and neuroscience, one must carefully trace the trajectory of this discourse.
Moreover, crafting an essay on this topic necessitates a thorough examination of the
psychological intricacies involved. Understanding how genetic predispositions interact with
environmental factors to shape individual behavior and development requires a nuanced
approach. It involves exploring case studies, empirical evidence, and scholarly discussions that
span across various disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and biology.
Balancing the arguments for both nature and nurture poses another challenge. Striking a
harmonious equilibrium between acknowledging the role of genetics and the impact of
environmental influences requires a deft touch. It's not just about presenting contrasting
viewpoints but also about critically evaluating the evidence, considering the limitations of
studies, and acknowledging the intricacies of real-world situations.
Additionally, synthesizing the information into a coherent and persuasive essay demands strong
analytical and writing skills. The ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and organized
manner is crucial. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the
debate and presenting a well-structured argument requires careful planning and attention to
detail.
In conclusion, tackling the topic of "Nature vs Nurture" in an essay is a formidable undertaking.
It demands a multidisciplinary approach, rigorous research, critical thinking, and effective
communication skills. However, by navigating through the complexities of this debate, one can
gain a profound understanding of the intricate interplay between genetics and environment in
shaping human characteristics and behaviors.

Zain Africa International BV S Acquisition by Bharti Airtel
Introduction
Bharti Airtel Limited was very keen to enter the African markets and the organization
took considerable time to find an indigenous partner who was willing to facilitate its
entry into African territory. Having previously gone through unsuccessful rounds of
negotiations with MTN Group Limited, one could say that when Bharti Airtel
identified Zain Africa as a potential target for acquisition, it was probably ready to
walk an extra mile to see the deal through. An offer of US$10.7 billion for the
acquisition of Zain s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We expect special tariff/data plans for connecting Indians in India and Africa, like
those offered previously for the Middle East and USA, considering increased
migration from India to Africa and increasing competition in Africa for greater share
of the huge subscriber base.
As the next step, Bharti needs to negotiate a venture like the Indus Towers with
Vodafone and MTN to attain targeted EBITDA margins.

Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance (1957) sets its meaning on the
theory that behavior does not support the attitude or vice versa. At many times
individuals see themselves experiencing this phenomenon, so in order to reduce
this dissonance, either the attitude or the behavior needs to be altered or changed.
A perfect example would have to be when a white person says that black and
whites are all the same yet he/she would not want to live in a neighborhood with the
majority of the population being blacks. This expresses the person s strong attitude
towards the topic, yet their behavior shows otherwise. This paper will focus in
deeply understanding what cognitive dissonance is and analyzing well known
studies that have conducted extensive research on it. Our attitude and behaviors are
what defines us in society and what supports our views. However when these two
contradict with each other, many different outcomes may to happen. That is why
consistency plays an eccentric role in our lives, which brings the question of what
happens when we are inconsistent with what we say and do? Researchers Lisa L.
Shu and Fransesca Gino conducted a study called Sweeping Dishonesty under the
Rug: How Unethical Actions Lead to Forgetting of Moral Rules, (2012) in which
they wanted to know whether one consequence could be the forgetting of moral rules.

Saul And David
The relationship between David and Saul, portrayed from 1 Samuel 16 through 2
Samuel 12, is a dynamic relationship. In the beginning, David submitted himself to
Saul, serving him, protecting him from evil spirits. David grew to love Saul deeply,
and in turn, the two had a reciprocated respect. However, as Davidgrew in popularity
after defeating Goliath, Saulbecame jealous of David. That jealousy transformed
into the fear of David, and that began Saul s pursuit for David s death. In the end,
Saul committed suicide, with feelings of resent over David. But David never lost
his respect for Saul, the man he believed to be Lord s anointed . The turning point of
their relationship occurred in 1 Samuel 18, after David had defeated Goliath. After
Tobacco Of Tobacco And Tobacco
The younger the individual when they initially start smoking, the greater the
possibility of addiction and becoming a lifelong smoker (King, 2015). Tobacco
addiction is an issue the United States is struggling with, partially due to the fact
that 90% of adult smokers began before or by the age of 18 (Ahmad, 2015).
Researchers believe that since younger people become easily addicted to tobaccoand
older people have an easier time quitting tobacco product use, raising the minimum
age for tobacco sales could prevent this addiction from spreading (Ahmad, 2015).
Public opinion about tobacco use, the Tobacco 21 bill, California s computer model,
retail, and the comparison in impact between alcohol and tobacco purchasing ages are
all considered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state hopes to accomplish this through their Tobacco 21 bill, but they worry
about compliances with the retailers of tobacco products. In order to ensure
compliance, the State Department of Health Services in California will conduct 4
random checks annually at tobacco outlets (Ahmad, 2015). There are an estimated
73,700 tobacco selling outlets in California which means there will be a total of
294,800 inspections per year (Ahmad, 2015).
To help support the Tobacco 21 bill, the government of California has developed an
elaborate computer model. The model calculates the possibilities if the legal tobacco
age was raised from 18 to 21 while including multiple aspects in the consideration of
the results presented by the model. The model presents drastic changes in smokers of
all different age categories over a fifty year span (Ahmad, 2015). The 14 17 year old
category is estimated to drop from 15.4% to 2.4%, the 18 20 year old category could
drop from 16.8% to 7.9%, and the 21 and older category could drop from 16.7% to
12.6%. The model also presented the results for the legal age being increased to 19
or 20, and while those results proved that the prevalence dropped, it is not as
drastic as if the age were raised to 21. This proves that the age gap between 21 year
olds and underage tobacco users is significant enough to reduce the start of use and

Comparing Sophocles Oedipus And Socrates

Socrates, a well known ancient Greek philosopher, was accused with his greedy

choices the people made. And while this is marginally represented in Shakesphere s

Juliet through rushing in to action and rash judgments. By rushing into action, Friar

An advantage are corporate shareholders cannot lose more money than they
originally paid for their share of stock. A disadvantage to being a corporationis that
corporations are double taxed. Federal and state government tax corporate income

personal level. Hybrid Organizations promotes the growth of small businesses. An
advantage is that they offer single taxation and limited liability to all owners. A
disadvantage is that the owners bear personal liability for the firm s debt (Cornett,

problem, and list the three approaches to minimize the conflict of interest resulting
from the agency problem. Whenever one party hires someone else to work for him

lifestyle instead of earning more profits for shareholders (Cornett, Adair, amp;

involved is small enough relative to the firm s cash flow. The second approach is to
monitor the manager s actions. The final approach is to make the manager an owner.
Making the manager an equity stake in the firm. 4. Why is ethical behavior so

Macgregor Fathers Sons And Hockey Summary
Fathers, Sons and Hockey , by Roy MacGregor, is a short essay about the nature of
father son relationships in general and, more specifically, in hockey. MacGregor
asserts that, despite what may be true about other paternal relationships, in hockey the
father son relationship is reinforced through constant bonding and mutual support. In
order to understand precisely how MacGregor makes his case, it is necessary first to
explain his exploration of ideas put forth about father sonrelationships in general.
Second, the reader needs to understand his development of the idea that relationships
in hockey provide an exception to general perceptions about the distant nature of
father son interactions. Thirdly, one needs to be able to follow MacGregor s... Show

MacGregor comments about Walt Disney, that he retreated to his . . . empire that
portrayed fathers as essentially ineffectual, bumbling and usually absent (6), after
Disney had observed that very few songs were written about fathers. [MacGregor
[MacGregor s arguments are faulty here; perhaps Disney does portray fathers
pejoratively but that does not decrease the relevance or factuality of his claim.
MacGregor also completely ignores the role of the mother, except to say that she
might attend a hockey game or two to cheer on her son. In the context of the twenty
first century, MacGregor s focus solely on the father in the hockey family is
chauvinistic and unrealistic.] Many mothers perform the same duties as fathers,
negating the argument about hockey and its ability to foster father son relationships.
[Lastly, MacGregor uses anecdotal evidence, which, while illustrating his point,

Negative Essay On Gentrification
Gentrification is the process of renovating an area so that it conforms to middle class
tastes. Low income minority neighborhoods are often the targets of gentrification,
which makes this subject rather controversial, and rightly so. Gentrification often has
the effect of pushing the native low income residents out of their neighborhoods due
to rising rent costs and increased cost of living. The process typically starts with
young, educated, artistic, mostly white people beginning to move into predominately
low income minority neighborhoods, because they are attracted by the low housing
costs and low propertyvalues compared to the rest of the city. Lofts are built and
music venues are opened along with new bars and restaurants. These new
developments begin to attract more traditional middle and upper class people, they
too are drawn in by the relatively low property values and begin to buy homes and
renovate them. This new influx of people has caused developers to begin buying and
renovating houses in the area to attract more middle and upper class people. All the
while, the native residents have been having their rents raised to the point that they
can no longer afford to live in their neighborhood anymore. They are forced to
relocate and attempt to find more affordable housingelsewhere. This sad cycle has
been repeated countless times in cities across America. As a student at Temple
University, I see this process firsthand each day in North Philadelphia as our campus
The Tragedy Of Agamemnon By Sophocles Essay
When discussing Greek tragedies, there is a theme of anger and revenge that is
somewhat underling in many texts of this tragic nature. In Agamemnon by Aeschylus
the main character Agamemnon faces these constructs head on mostly as a direct
result of his decision to sacrifice his daughter. However, this is not the only case
where anger and revenge is exhibited in the tragedy of Agamemnonas in truth it runs
rampant throughout the text. Another tragedy that exhibits these traits is that of
Medea written by Euripides. The central character Medea was abandoned by her
husband Jason and resultantly she made a choice to pursue a revenge plot against
Jason that entailed the murder of their children. An interesting parallel between these
texts is the role that children played in these pursuits of anger and revenge. What
this really shows about Greek tragedies is the strong role of family that is present
when it comes to tragic events that are generally resultant of anger which can then
lead to revenge and thus death, hence perhaps why such works are referred to as
tragedies.
In Agamemnon, the main character Agamemnon was headed off to the well known
Trojan war when he encountered strong winds sent by the goddess Artemis. Rather
than abandon the war and turn back Agamemnon made the choice to sacrifice his
daughter Iphigenia to please Artemis so he could go on his way. However, by
making this decision Agamemnon unwittingly planted the seeds of revenge in his
wife s heart that would

man and the gods. The tale of Bellerophon as told by his son to Diomedes reflects the
rhetorical situation from the very beginning. From the line High hearted son of

The Invention Of Printing Press
In 1440, for too many people was the year of change in the global communication. It
was during this time in Mainz, Germany that a goldsmith s Johannes Gutenberg
created one of the most important machines during the modern period: the printing
press. The printing press was inspired by earlier uses found in China and Japan as
early as the 7th century. In this time the way to print was using the method of block
printing, which was a piece of wood used to print a specific piece of text. ( Patterns

With the Gutenberg invention the revolution had begun. It advanced the process of
movable type further, and started a new era of printing called typography. The

Scroll bars when information on a page exceeds the viewport, a scroll bar control

almost always occur along one axis, except in rare cases. ( Patterns for )
The problem can be more information in the page or element than can fit in the
viewport. You have to provide a method to access this information.
The solution for mobiles will be to display them to indicate the scrollable axes, and
the relative position within the scrollable area.
Whenever possible, you should make sure scrolling takes place on a single axis.
This is why the whole set of patterns based around vertical scroll exist. When the
situation demands, such as for zooming in to content which otherwise fits the area,
you can also offer a secondary scroll axis. Keep the secondary axis in mind
throughout the design process because
Advantages Of Composite Materials
2.Composite Materials
2.1.Introduction
Composites are materials consisting of two or more chemically distinct constituents
having a clear interface separating them and with properties which cannot be obtained
by any constituent material working individually [1].
One of the modern definitions of composite materials was given after 1990 and it
says that: A modern composite materialis a system formed of at least two
constituents, in which the fiber volume fraction is at least 10% and in which the
mechanical property values of one component are at least 5 times higher than the
values of properties of the second component. [1].
As an example, While a high strength fiber can have a tensile strength of 3500 MPa or
more, a typical polymeric matrix normally has a tensile strength of only 35 to 70
MPa [2].

Water Hypothesis Lab Report
Discussion
Hypothesis 1: Experiment 1, I accepted my oil hypothesis because the oil formed a
thin even layer on top of the water and resumed after I stirred it up with the wooden
stick. Vinegar hypothesis: I accepted because the vinegar was only identifiable by
smell. Laundry detergent hypothesis: I accepted because the laundry detergent
contaminated the water by changing the color to greenish blue and formed bubbles.
They all had an effect on either the smell or consistency of the water. The detergent
seemed to be the most potent when it came to the water, only because it changed the
smell, the color and the constancy of the water.
In experiment 2, I accepted my hypothesis because the filtration experiment removed

Bottled water is big business Cornell University states major brands of bottled water

the use of technology. Sexting is affecting teens lives in a negative way. One in
five teens admit to sending sexually explicit photos or messages with their cell
phones and twice as many reported receiving sexting messages and photos (Mooney
42). The sending of vulgar messages has created emotional problems for teens.
Those messages can be spread across the school or even throughout the town in an
instant, reaching anyone and everyone. Once those messages are exposed, many
teens begin to harass or make fun of the messages or pictures causing emotional
problems such as insecurity for the victim. Emotionally sexting can take a toll on a
person, especially if it backfires and gets into the wrong hands, says Dr. Johnson
physiatrist at the Houston Human Behavioral Study (Johnson). Many girls suffer
from this because they think they can trust the person they are sending it
The Power Of Love In The Film Titanic
James Cameron film the Titanic (1997), is an epic romance fictionalized account of
the sinking of the RMS Titanic. One key theme associated with the film Titanic is
that Love is everlasting. The sinking of the Titanic was the dramatic story supporting
the overall theme of the film. Titanic is a love story that takes place on the famous
ship the RMS Titanic. Young, Rose is making her way back to America on the Titanic
with her mother and fiance, where she meets Jack Dawson. During the voyage,
despite their social status differences, Rose and Jack fall in love. Titanic also focuses
on the ill fated maiden voyage of the luxury liner that hit a huge iceberg and caused
thousands of people to drown. The film Titanic shows the power of selfless love and
survival, all of which are established through acting, design, and cinematography.
In the movie, love and romance are used since the central plot is the love story
between Jack and Rose. Romantic films often explore the essential themes of love
at first sight, forbidden love, and even sacrificial love. All three elements that were
practiced during the film. Rose was a troubled young woman living in a rich
society, engaged to a millionaire that her mother had sought out. She was residing
in a nightmare, a nightmare that she didn t want, and she was looking for a way
out. Jack saved Rose s life and was quickly pushed into her. Jack was the only one
that could see the pain that Rose had. He was the only one who could get her out of

Perpetua s Defiance Of The Young Christian Martyr
Throughout the life of the young Christian martyr, Vibia Perpetua, she was placed
under strict expectations based on her gender by the Roman society. Perpetua defied
the expectations placed upon her since birth by converting to Christianity, yet she
still showed ambivalence towards her role as a woman in the new community. This
essay will analyze Perpetua s defiance of the gender expectations of both the Roman
community and Christian church and the way Perpetua defined her own role as a
womanin conflicting societies. In Perpetua s time, the Roman culture had strict
views on gender and the role of a woman in society. Early Roman society families
had a patriarchal structure meaning the father was the head of the family. The
strongest tie within the family was that between a father and a daughter.
Daughters were expected to [forge] political and social ties for fathers (Salisbury
6). A Roman daughter was favored the most; they received the best education
overseen by their fathers. The purpose of a strong education was to pass on to their
sons the values of Rome as well as help her to be a good mother in the future
(Salisbury 7). A woman s purpose in the Roman culture was reproduction in order
to continue lineage. In addition to strict family and social rules, Roman women
joined cults with specific rituals for females to perform. A woman s role in Roman
society was defined by cults...to preserve social order (Salisbury 12). Women joined

Elderly Senior Population
In 2014, Americans age 65 and older represented 14.5% of the total population in the
United States. Between 2004 and 2014 the senior population grew by 10 million
constituting a 28% increase in the senior population, far surpassing the 6.2% growth
in the population under the age of 65 (US Department of Healthand Human Services,
2016). It is projected that one in every five Americans will be a senior in 2030
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013; Ortman, Velkoff Hogan, 2014).
The coming generation of seniors will be significantly different than those before
them more racially diverse, less likely to be married, and facing declines in their

For example, nutrition plays a crucial role in the morbidity of illnesses such as
cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia, and Alzheimer s disease (Coombs,
Barrocas, White, 2004; Mann, 2002; Scarmeas, et al., 2008; Shah, 2013; Takashashi
et al, 2003). Additionally, poor nutrition can decrease immunity, increase the time
needed for recovery from injury or illness, and has been associated with an increase
in hospital visits all functions that already deteriorate with age (Brownie, 2005;
Forster et al, 2012; Lesourd, 1997; Sullivan, 1995). Finally, elderly malnutrition leads
to increased health costs for individuals and for the health care system a system that
will be further strained with the growth in the aging population. Quality nutritious
diets can reduce the health risk seniors already face (Bernstein Munoz, 2012; Volkert,
2013).
To inform policy and public health decisions that support nutritional health for
seniors, it is important to understand the factors that are associated with nutritious
diets among seniors. While physiological changes in seniors body create issues for
nutrient intake, they also face the cumulative effect of socioeconomic and
behavioral factors (Donini, et al, 2013; Mojon et al, 1999; Morley, 1997; Morley et

of socioeconomic and behavioral predictors

Value Chain Analysis is a tool for analyzing the value creation system of
competitors. Objective is to develop a value creating system with competitive
advantage. A value chain is a chain of activities. Products pass all activities of the
chain in order and at each activity the product gains some value. The chain of
activities gives the products more added value than the sum of added values of all
activities. It is important not to mix the concept of the value chain, with the costs

Marketing / Sales While most competitors supplied machines based on orders from
distributors, resellers, retailers, Dell took orders directly from customers. Dell used
indicators of a company s potential PC purchases, such as the number of employees
and the number of PCs per employee, to divide customers into two groups:
Relationship buyers and Transaction buyers.
Relationship buyers were large companies and institutions that could be counted on
to place repeated orders for multiple PCs. Dell assigned a team of outside sales reps
and inside sales reps to each Relationship account. Over a thousand outside sales reps
spent their time in the field, understanding customer needs, courting customer
personnel, helping customers configure their information systems, and promoting
Dell s products and services. Inside sales reps, located in call centers, received
telephone calls from assigned customers. Because Relationship customers typically
specified particular PC configurations that their employees were allowed to order,
the inside reps serving such customers simply took orders and provided product and
delivery information. Both inside and outside sales reps had access to on line
information about a customer s entire purchase history and worked closely with Dell
personnel responsible for after sale service and technical support.
Transaction buyers included small to medium businesses and home computer users.
The company reached these customers via advertisements in trade
Analysis Of Invisible Man
To be exiled means to be kept from one s native space or country. In the book,
Invisible Man, The nameless narrator started off bound for greatness and then as the
novel continued he to be challenged with obstacles as he discovered his true self.
Through these obstacles he was pushed farther and farther away from the places he
learned to call home and had to forget everything he knew to survive. As a young
black men the narratorstayed very true to who he was and wished to be a very
successful scholar. He got a scholarship for an African American college and was
lucky enough to be able to go; however, halfway through his schooling due to
power hungry and egotistical Dr. Bledsoe, the narrator was expelled because he
showed one of the school founders around dirtier parts of town. This college was a
place the narrator considered home and was exiled from it leaving him with only 50
dollars and envelopes filled with false hope.
It is very easy to be taken over by fear and hopelessness when you are thrown from
somewhere you have spent the most recent parts of your life to a completely
different area where you know nothing and no one. Instead of holing up and showing
his fear the narrator showed up to Harlem with a positive mindset and portrayed
himself as a man who knew what he planned on doing with his life when he got
there; however, he was just clinging to letter which held nothing but lies. He used his
expulsion to enter a new place as a very sophisticated young man and
Michael S. Harper s We Assume

We Assume that this is an Elegy When looking at Helen Vendler s thirteen steps to
describe at a poem, there are a few points that would fit Michael S. Harper s We
Assume: On the Death of Our Son Reuben Masai Harper. However, the points that fit
the poem the most are number seven: games with the skeleton and number eight:
language. First, Vendler defines the skeleton as the emotional curve on which the
whole poem is arranged. In this case, Harper writes about his new born son, Reuben
Masai Harper, who only lived for twenty eight hours even the title includes the word
death, so it is safe to assume that this poem is about a father mourning for his son.
Therefore, since the emotional curve is mourning for the death of his ... Show more

Harper includes a lot of scientific and medical terms, such as isolette, pure oxygen,
twin thick windows of the nursery, and the sterile hands/ drank chemicals in and

bicarbonate in crooked, green winged veins, out in a plastic mask. These terms
tend to create the idea that the child who is being treated will be cured, especially
since modern medicine is viewed to prolong life and cure the incurable (or at least
manage the disease). Therefore, when Harper incorporates medicine into his poem
it naturally brings about hope that the child will survive. Overall, Harper does a
brilliant job in describing the emotions of a parent who loses a child. The hope that
their child will be okay in the hands of doctors and the despair when they find out
that modern medicine has failed them. Also, the regret that a parent feels after losing
a child. Even though Harper does play with the emotional curve of an elegy by not
having solace at the end, it can be argued that he is able to entirely capture the
emotion of a parent because many parents do not come to accept their child s
Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease
A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the
stomach, in the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth
and Smeltzer, 2008). According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram
negative bacteria that is the cause of most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a
primary risk factor in the development of gastic cancer (pg. 394). Other causes
include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz
Sonstein (2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be
spread person to person through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter
(pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in crowded areas without reliable access to
clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene, smoking, and close living
conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an ulcer
include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or
constipation and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to
eradicate H. pylori bacteria; proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced
ulcers and other ulcers not associated with the bacterial infection, smoking cessation
and dietary modifications. Surgical management is recommended for ulcers that fail
to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures include pyloroplasy,
anrectomy or vagotomy.

The Bullied and the Bully
In today s simplistic world, one may believe that violence is the only way to solve
our problems. If people continue to keep this idea of violence in their heads, our
societal problems of harassment and bullying are not going to improve. Bullying has
been in this world for centuries on end and for the same reason: to get a sense of
power or authority. Kids in today s schools feel superior to others by calling others
belittling names and harassing them to utter nothingness. Men feel the need to hit
women to gain their respect. The basis is that bullying will not make one a better

Character Analysis Of Gary O s Seventh Grade By Gary
Soto
Even though Victor, a 7th grader from the story of Seventh Grade by Gary Soto, is
trying to find his way socially, academically and personally, he is motivated to get
his girl but in doing this he matures and develops. On the first day of seventh grade,
Victor s personality is sheepish and shy. When he was in his math room for his
second period, he sat in the back because math was at his weakest subject. On
Victor s way to math class the narrator says After English, Victor had math, his
weakest subject. He sat in the back by the window, hoping that he would not be
called on. Victor understood most of the problems, but some of the stuff looked
like the teacher made it up as she went along. It was confusing, like the inside of a
watch. (Soto 4). This illustrates that Victor is not very good at math and does not
want to try harder in math. It is important to notice that he has not been able to
grasp the knowledge of this class and is not willing to catch up. The moment
Victor develops is when Teresa asks if he can tutor her he this sparks that he knew
he did not fail and impressed her in French class. The teacher beamed and said,
Très Bien. Parlez vous français? Victor didn t know what to say. The teacher
wets his lips and asked something else in French. The room grew silent. Victor felt

Question: Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled
largely by of English origin, by 1700 the region had evolved into two different
societies. Why did this difference in development occur?
Thesis Statement: When talking about New England and the Chesapeake region, you
have to consider the differences in motives and geography. Consider economic
situations (reasons for settling where they did, reasons why they came to New
England in the first place). One has to think about the family development and
demographics, as well as the government structure.

examples of pure religion. The New Englanders would come to prosper through their
hard work, thrift, and the quality of their commitment to God and each other. The
Christian values of charity towards another man resulted in tight knit communities
that embraced the idea to care for every member. John Winthrop wrote, A Model of

this writing he states that no matter what social class you fall under everyone must

Equation 1 produces the most gas.
Number of moles = Volume of Gas (cm3) = 80cm3
Molar Volume (cm3) 24000cm3
= 0.0033 moles of gas
1.25 moles of gas is produced from 1 mole of copper carbonate (CuCO3)
В» 0.0033 moles of gas is produced from (0.0033)
1.25
= 0.00264 moles of Copper Carbonate
m = n x M  M[CuCO3] = [63.5 + 12 + (3 x 16)] = 123.5g mol 1
 0.00264 x 123.5g mol 1
= 0.33g of CuCO3
I can now work out how much gas 0.33g of CuCO3 will give in equation 2:
n = m = 0.33g = 0.00267 moles of Copper Carbonate
M 123.5g mol 1
1 mole of CuCO3 gives 1 mole of gas
0.00267 moles of CuCO3 gives 0.00267 moles of gas.
Volume of gas (cm3) = number of moles x molar volume (cm3)
= 0.00267 x 24000 cm3
= 64cm3
I can now carry out the experiment and compare the actual value with the two
predicted values I have just calculated. Which ever value is closest to the actual
value is the correct value and so its equation will be the correct equation.

Technology On Children And Children In Hanna Rosin s
The...
Have you ever thought about what affects technology actually has on a growing child
s mind? In Hanna Rosin s, The Touch Screen Generation, she suggests that touch
screens are not inherently bad for kids. Many people think that if children spend too
much time on electronic devices such as, iPad, cell phones and tablets, it will take
tolls on the child s physical and mental growth and development. There are also many
that believe that technologyis very beneficial to the growth and development of
children. There are also many people that believe technology is misshaping and
effecting family structure and function. Many people also believe that technology is
disintegrating the core values of families. There are so many children who are so
technologically inclined, that they will always rely on the technology being
available. There are many pros and cons to children spending an abundant amount of
time on technology. There are many different opinions about how technology affects
children and families. Some parents rely heavily on technology to entertain children
while they need to keep their children occupied. Entertainmenttechnology (TV,
Internet, video games, iPads, and cell phones) has advanced so rapidly, that families
have scarcely noticed the significant impact and changes to their family structure and
lifestyles. (The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child) There are so many
children that have become so engulfed in electronicsbecause that is all they have
grown up with to keep them entertained. A 2010 Kaiser Foundation study showed
that elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment
technology, 75 percent of these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50
percent of North American homes have the TV on all day. (The Impact of
Technology on the Developing Child) Some people believe that old fashion is the
way things should be. Some believe that technology is taking away the things that
used to be an everyday thing in most households. The fracturing of households is
solely to blame on technology. Gone is dining room table conversation, replaced by
the big screen and take out. (The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child) One

there were also two barely noticeable lines that were particularly noticeable from the
back of the painting. At the time of these first few pictures, The Armorer s Shop had
been strictly attributed to Teniers the Younger, with no mention of Brueghel
(Huskinson).
The painting was first analyzed using visible light, which can only show some
surface details through techniques like grazing. However, a couple of other bands of
the spectrum that can be used to obtain information about the painting in question are
infrared, in the form of infrared reflectography, and x ray. These were both utilized in
this case to analyze The Armorer s Shop. Infrared can be used to see through the
paint layers to the underdrawing and also to detect details in the painting that may
have changed color since being painted ( Infrared (IR) Light. ). X ray can be used to
see through the entire painting to detect its base and find possible weaknesses or
damages to the painting s
The Influence Of Spanish French And English Colonization
The world as we know it could not exist without the influence of Spanish, French,
and English colonization. Each of great European Colonies share some similarities
with one another but all varied greatly in structure, dominance, and influence. This
essay will break down many of the aspects that made up each colony which will lead
to a better understanding of what American Colonial life was like.
The Spanish, French, and English all established rather successful colonies in the
Americas but the locations of these colonies varied by founding country. The Spanish
crown sponsored conquests gained riches for Spain and helped expand its empire.
Originally claiming the Bahamas and most of South America the Spanish Empire
eventually claimed most of the southern and southwestern regions of the North
America, as well as sections of the California coast. The French were likely as
ambitious but found it difficult to compare to the vast dominance of the Spanish in
the Americas. Their first colonies were trading posts in Newfoundland and eastern
Canada. But French posts were established in the St. Lawrence valley, part of
Canada, and the Mississippi River area. Their empire eventually reigned from very
northeast Canada all the way south to Louisiana. For the English most colonies were
established by royal charter. Their earliest settlements were in Virginia and
Massachusetts. However, they eventually spread all along the Atlantic coast, from
Maine to Georgia, and as far West as the

How Does Pip Change Throughout The Novel
The book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is about Pip s life, but involves
many stories and relations. This novel of 544 pages was published on 1861 by
Chapman Hall. It describes the protagonist life since he was a kid and a radical
change he had, to the life before another unexpected change. In this report I m going
to briefly summarize a part of this extent book.
After Pip received a secret benefactor (which he thought was Miss Havisham), his
life changed drastically. Now he had an opulent life, and was afraid to be
disapproved by his old friends. Joe went to visit Pip, but Pip was acting annoyed
until he told him Estella was back and wanted to see him. When he saw Estella, even
if he wasn t just a blacksmith anymore, he felt unworthy ... Show more content on

Years later Pip returned to England, where Estella was now a widow. Great
Expectations finish as Pip and Estella wander holding hands through the garden in the
moonlight.
I think the purpose of Charles Dickens was to create an involving story to entertain
his public, which in my opinion was achieved, and make it a relatable story. I don t
consider Great Expectations difficult, but you have to pay attention because it has
many stories. Maybe some of the weaknesses of the book are that it is very old so
it s not that relatable to today s lifestyle, but if we consider the time when it was
wrote, it is very complex, well written and interesting. I would definitely recommend
it to others, but only to the people I know would like to read it.
In conclusion is a very good book, obviously by a very recognized and well known
writer. The spite of Estella marked me the most, because she gained a lot of hate to
every man she knew just because of what Compeyson did to her. The impression
the book left me was that maybe Charles Dickens had many feelings like rancor
inside him, but also wanted to eliminate and forgive others. He had a great sense but
realistic sense of love because he knew that even when two people love each other,
sometimes it isn t possible for different
Upgrading The Current Client Operating System Desktops

Overview
LSDG, the new research and development group, need to upgrade their current client
operating system desktops and laptops. They currently have 280 desktops and
laptops that are running Windows 7 and 220 desktops and laptops that are running
Windows XP. LSDG need a system that will run a Linuxoperating system and that
will access and share resources with the Linx, LLC s Microsoft Active Directory
domain. The domain consists of several Windows Servers 2012 R2 servers that run
various services as DNS, DHCP, web services, Microsoft Active Directory, printing
and file sharing.
I believe the best operating system to migrate over to would be the Redhat/CentOS
Linux Operating System. This system has features that sets them apart from all the
other Linux distributions. It has advanced technology, simple installation, GUI
administration tools, software packaging, and two desktop environments. The
advanced Linux 3.10 kernel technology has updated security, easy installation, easy
to manage the Global File Systems on Fedora. The packaging Redhat software
created RPM package management method for Linux. When you are in the
process of installing Linux you can choose what disk to partition and set your
desktop to be GUI ready. The shell scripts also are contained in subdirectories or
the /etc directory and will provide messages to you when services have started
correctly or have failed to execute. The two desktop environment that Redhat
provides are GNOME and KDE to allow users
History, Tradition And Culture, Mexico
A country rich in history, tradition and culture, Mexico is made up of 31 states and
one federal district. It is the third largest country in Latin America and has one of the
largest populations more than 100 million making it the home of more Spanish
speakers than any other nation in the world. Despite the political and social changes
that have occurred over the centuries, evidence of past cultures and events are
apparent everywhere in Mexico. Many of Mexico s rural areas are still inhabited by
indigenous people whose lifestyles are quite similar to those of their ancestors. In
addition, many pre Columbian ruins still exist throughout Mexico, including the
ancient city of TeotihuacГЎn and the Mayan pyramids at ChichГ©nItzГЎ and Tulum.
Reminders of the colonial past are evident in the architecture of towns like Taxco and
QuerГ©tar.
HISTORY
EARLY HISTORY
The Olmecs, Mexico s first known society, settled on the Gulf Coast near what is
now Veracruz. Remembered for the giant head sculptures they carved from native
stone, the Olmecs had two main population centers: San Lorenzo, which flourished
from about 1200 to 900 B.C., and La Venta in Tabasco, which lasted until about 600
B.C.
By 300 B.C., villages based on agriculture and hunting had sprung up throughout the
southern half of Mexico. Monte AlbГЎn, home to the Zapotec people, had an
estimated 10,000 inhabitants. Between 100 B.C. and 700 A.D., TeotihuacГЎn, the

Interpersonal Communication
Don Gemeinhardt
There are many different accidents that may occur that law enforcement may
encounter on a day to day bases. Officers must know how to react to these calls in
order to effective communicate with others. Effective communication will allow an
officer the know how to specifically get the help that he needs in order to complete
the task with the correct tools. The police officer needs to be able to communicate
with the accident victims, another officer, the department, or even the dispatcher.

Communication is vital between the police and the fireman because there may be
others is involved that could be injured or could become injured (Criminal Procedure,
2008).
The police have many protocols for many different situations. Many police
departments have procedures that are followed for an auto accident. First the
responding police officer will check the area for anyone that is injured and
communicate the information by radio to another officer. Normally the dispatcher,
who is communicating with additional officers, relays the information that he
receives from the responding officer. The officer must communicate with the
drivers at take statements, so that the officer will record each driver s version of
how the accident occurred into a police report. Sometimes an additional officer that
is present may be used to help with the questioning in order to determine if any
drugs or alcohol were used. The report may have diagrams of the accident, which
may help determine who was at fault. The officer then may have photographs, and
roadway conditions. After this the final police report will be compiled with all of the
statements and additional information that was gathered. The report will provide
information on who was at fault. During any investigation the police must have
probable cause to make an arrest. However, the police at times must obtain an arrest
warrant in order to acquire more evidence to support their suspicions. Communication

Urban Gentrification and Urban Morphology
Urban Gentrification and Urban Morphology The term gentrification has myriads of
interpretations from different geographers, and sociologists. Ever since, there has
been protracted debate on its methodology, consequences and whether it constitutes a
dominant or residual urban form. The term gentrification was first coined by the
Marxist urban geographer Ruth Glass (Glass, 1964) to describe the influx of
wealthier individuals into cities or neighbourhoods who replace working or lower
classes already living there by using London districts such as Islington as her
example. On the other hand, Smith and Williams (1986, p.1) define gentrification as
the rehabilitation of working class and derelict housing and the consequent
transformation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything is inter related. The critique from this tool of analysis is again the
challenge of information overload from looking at each single factor affecting
gentrification therefore making it more complex to conceptualise gentrification.
Also, the limitation of research funding can affect the quality, accuracy and
credibility of academic s findings, speed to publication and research methodology
problems. Hence, the potential resulting in bias research findings, if used by local
government when intervening in determining housing policies in gentrifying
stagnant towns and cities may be wrongly misguided. The analysis of economic
driven gentrification is clearly illustrated in London beginning from the 1950s. This
process began in the Canonbury area of Islington; spread to Barnsbury and other
parts of Islington, as well as Camden, Notting Hill, Primrose Hill, Kentish Town,
Holland Park, and West Greenwich in the 1960s; and reached as far as Hackney in
East London and parts of South London like Lambeth, Battersea, Clapham, and
Fulham in the 1970s. (Moran, 2007, p.101) Before the 1950s, the North London
Borough of Islington was at a broken area, its once grand Regency and Victorian
houses split into poorly maintained,
Religion and Women Essay
Religion and Women
Religion can be seen to act as a social control over women to a large extent. The
feminist perspective argues religion serves the interests of men and cements
patriarchal power. Karen Armstrong points out the ways in which God has been
redefined by each era, by men to continually meet their needs. We can see this in
relation to two main ideas, the nature of religious imagery. In most religions, women
tend to be portrayed in terms of their traditional social characteristics. The Virgin
Mary in Christian religion for example. Although a powerful figure her power, is
ideological rather than political the virtues of purity, chastity, motherhood and so
forth are personified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are told they are close to God as they produce a soul of god when they are
mothers but this is used to control them and they in turn socialize the children into
the religion and the ideology, ultimately not recognising their inequality and it all
benefits men. The nature of religious organisation is another issue when stating the
extent to which religion is used as a social control over women. While women,
feature strongly in both religious participation and to a certain extent, imagery, it is
evident that there has been a very noticeable inequality between males and females in
terms of positions of power and authority within religious organisations. Although
some sects have allowed women to preach and spread the word, the majority of the
world s major religions have tended to relegate women to relatively subordinate roles,
in terms of their power, authority and influence in their organisation (which further
reflects women s experience in the social world).
However the extent to which religion has been used vas a social control over women
can be questioned as in relation to Christianity, the decision in 1994 by the Church
of England to ordain women as priests and to allow them to take charge of Church
services is a significant development to note. Also some religions do not convey the
same ideology as others and are more egalitarian such

job and can be very stressful. While trying to collect the debt we have consumer

When I started in 2008 there were always rules and regulations that had to be
followed but over time things changed, one of the major challenges we had to face
was in communication. In the past we were able to use our automated dialer
system to call debtors land line, times have change majority of the people have
dropped land lines and are now using cell phones. There are laws in place where you
cannot call a cell phone using an automated system it has to be done manually.
When the law changed it slowed us down dramatically, and it was hard adapting to
that change. We went from speaking with 300 debtors a day to 40 which was very
hard. We overcame that challenge. Portfolio Recovery Associate had a great
Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Recitatif By Joseph
Conrad
Race, Ethnicity, and Nationality are a vital part of any individual. The overall
population on our planet is growing and becoming more diverse. The importance of
these things in American Society is very complicated. Race represents the evolution
of culture from many years ago, Ethnicity symbolizes who we are and how we are
influenced, and Nationality tells us where we come from. Although there are many
theories; race, ethnicity, and nationality are socially formed and is real in society.
The affects they have on peer groups, media, and children have a big impact on the
way people live on a day to day basis.
Postcolonial literature addresses the problems of decolonization of many non
western countries becoming independent from western control. Postcolonial
literature focuses on racial relationships and the effects of race itself. An example of
Postcolonial literature is Joseph Conrad s text, Heart of Darkness . This text
described a sailor s journey up the Congo River. The novel also allowed readers to
understand his feelings towards the empire and the ruthless treatment of the African
natives.
Another Postcolonial text that brings race and ethnicity together is Toni Morrison s
story, Recitatif . The story is about two young girls who share a rocky friendship. The

Total Quality Management in Construction
Total Quality Management In Construction
The major new element in world market competition is quality. During the 1970 s and
1980 s, the Japanese and their U.S. companies demonstrated that high quality is
achievable at lower costs and greater customer satisfaction. It was the result of using
the management principles of total quality management
(TQM). More and more U.S. companies have demonstrated that such achievements
are possible Using TQM as a new way to manage. Such companies also found that
they were recognized with everyone pulling in the same direction. Improvement had
become a way of live. Improving competitive position and profit has always been the
responsibility of management. Before the 1980 s, U.S. management was ... Show

If well crafted, the vision statement can serve through a torrent of change in product
and service technology. The strategic vision needs to consider both the external
customer and the employees, but should lack a defining or differentiating phrase
between them. For example, General Motors provides all employees a card with its
strategic vision, including a cause effect diagram that indicates the importance of
team work (figure 2). Simply stating a vision is not enough. It needs to be
demonstrated by the actions of the executives, managers , superiors, foremen, and
individuals.
It should be done continuously in all their actions and initiatives. Moreover,
deliberation must be exercised in developing these goals and strategies. They must
reflect the values and culture of the work force. While top management commitment
is essential, managers should realize when to lead and when to get out of the way. In
a sense quality management is management from the bottom up.
An atmosphere of responsibility must be created toward the customer for whatever
product is produced or service is rendered (fig.3, below).
2. Barrier Removal It is inevitable that change will be resisted. In fact, a great deal of
effort in quality management is expended in overcoming such resistance, usually by
allowing change to come from individuals directly involved, rather from management.
The whole idea of continuous improvement leads to continuous change.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Summary
Early New Journalism is a product of alienation between the generation that emerged
after World War II and their predecessors. That sense of alienation led to a need for
connection and a craving for societal revolution, which, in turn, generated an age of
radicalism. Reflecting that radicalism, journalism of the time is written as a detailed
train of thought of the writer in order to create a connection with the audience.
Similarly, new journalists often braid philosophical ideas into their historical
accounts to further bridge the gap between author and audience. Doctor Hunter S.
Thompson in his gonzo journalist roman Г clef, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,
reflects upon the decline of youth culture rebellion during the late 1960 s to early
1970 s while on a trip to Las Vegas by expressing opinions to the reader via his

The lack of boundaries in the narrator s speech makes the reader feel as if he or she
is experiencing the confusing hallucinations as well, generating a relationship
between the reader and Raoul Duke. Thus, the reader s access to Duke s struggles
against his own mind gives him or her a personal connection to the narrator.
Furthermore, Duke often speaks of his bad waves of paranoia , expressing to the
reader his own fears. This creates an intimacy between journalist and consumer. The
two become acquainted through the chapters because Duke s shared thoughts are so
abnormally accessible, a reason why New Journalism was embraced by an estranged
High School Censorship Persuasive Speech
Many college students today might say, Stick and stones may break my bones, but
words really offend me, so you can t say that. These students would be wrong
legally to prevent others from freely speaking their minds in public, but in a college
classroom they would be awarded.
Censoring is not only in college classrooms, but in high school classrooms as well.
It impedes on a student s ability to develop and learn, hinders their ability to prepare
for the modern day world. Although clichГ©, and very sadly so, it is very apparent
that today there is almost nothing that can be said that offends nobody. Thick skins
have been replaced with fragile minds, and college students do not even know the
extent of the first amendment. However, these same students believe they have the
right to interpret the amendment their own way, and some believe they have the right
to become the judiciary system if the speech doesn t appeal to them.
When determining an opinion on any argument, it is important to start with the facts.
In a survey taken by John Villasenor, forty percent of college students surveyed
believe that hate speech is not protected by the first amendment, and twenty percent
believe violence used to stop hate speech is acceptable. All those students are wrong.
Hate speech is protected by the first amendment, and using violence as justification
for ending hate speech is not legal.
While not everyone in society has to be a constitutional expert, college students today
are tomorrow s future lawyers, judges, police officers, etc. They need to at least know
the extent of the first amendment in the United States. Additionally, these students
should know that since hate speech is protected, responding with violence is by no
means the answer as they will be the only ones to find themselves in jail. These
students must lower their fists, and pull out the textbooks and construct the picket
signs, using vigorous debate and peaceful protests as their response to bigotry.
The other problem is that judges don t sit outside or around college campuses and
determine when someone s right to free speech is infringed. Therefore, when a
significant portion of the students believe they have the right to silence or prevent the
The Clinical Practice Situation And The Issue Of A Ping...
The clinical practice situation and the issue stated was two patients misbehaving in
the mental health ward and the team leader and student nurse decided that a ping
pong tournament was the way to ease the tension between the two clients. This form
of leadership is called transformational leadership. Transformational leadershipin
healthcare includes promoting teamwork among staff, encouraging positive self
esteem and motivating staff to function at a high level of performance (Smith
Atkinson, 2011). The implications for leadership in the future nursing practice is
vital and is critical in clinical areas where new graduates are present; as it promotes a
healthy environment for the employees and staff (Smith Atkinson, 2011) .
The clinical practice situation and the issue stated was two patients misbehaving in
the mental health ward and the team leader and student nurse decided that a ping
pong tournament was the way to ease the tension between the two clients. I felt like
if the team leader didn t step in and communicate with two patients and extinguish
the flame before it exploded it would have ended up worse for wear over someone
looking at them the wrong way. I felt that when the student nurse suggested the ping
pong tournament it was a great idea. As it releases the anger and stress within the
person. According to the Australian Nursing Collage defines leadership as it s heart;
leadership is broadly accepted to be about influencing others to accomplish common
James Cook Research Paper
James Cook James cook was one of seven children. He was born on October 27,
1928, in Marton, Yorkshire, England. James was helping his father who was a poor
Scottish farm labourer, until getting a job at a nearby grocer. He then moved on to
an apprenticeship for ship building. (Captain Cook Birthplace Museum , n.d.)
When he turned 18 years of age, James Cook was offered an apprenticeship by a ship
owner in a small seaside village. The experience proved to be serendipitous for the
future naval commander and world explorer by bringing him in contact with both
the ocean and maritime living. (Biography.com, n.d.) Joining The Royal Navy In
1755, James Cook joined the Royal Navy and was onboard as an able seaman on the
royal ship HMS Eagle. HMS Eagle is one of the many Royal Naby ships to bear his

Having previously gone through unsuccessful rounds of negotiations with MTN Group Limited, one could say that when Bharti Airtel identified Zain Africa as a potential target for acquisition, it was probably ready to walk an extra mile to see the deal through. • 4. Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance (1957) sets its meaning on the theory that behavior does not support the attitude or vice versa. At many times individuals see themselves experiencing this phenomenon, so in order to reduce this dissonance, either the attitude or the behavior needs to be altered or changed. A perfect example would have to be when a white person says that black and whites are all the same yet he/she would not want to live in a neighborhood with the majority of the population being blacks. This expresses the person s strong attitude towards the topic, yet their behavior shows otherwise. This paper will focus in deeply understanding what cognitive dissonance is and analyzing well known studies that have conducted extensive research on it. Our attitude and behaviors are what defines us in society and what supports our views. However when these two contradict with each other, many different outcomes may to happen. That is why consistency plays an eccentric role in our lives, which brings the question of what happens when we are inconsistent with what we say and do? Researchers Lisa L. Shu and Fransesca Gino conducted a study called Sweeping Dishonesty under the Rug: How Unethical Actions Lead to Forgetting of Moral Rules, (2012) in which they wanted to know whether one consequence could be the forgetting of moral rules. These two searched to understand how our action or better yet our immoral actions, leads us to forget what our parents
  • 5. Saul And David The relationship between David and Saul, portrayed from 1 Samuel 16 through 2 Samuel 12, is a dynamic relationship. In the beginning, David submitted himself to Saul, serving him, protecting him from evil spirits. David grew to love Saul deeply, and in turn, the two had a reciprocated respect. However, as Davidgrew in popularity after defeating Goliath, Saulbecame jealous of David. That jealousy transformed into the fear of David, and that began Saul s pursuit for David s death. In the end, Saul committed suicide, with feelings of resent over David. But David never lost his respect for Saul, the man he believed to be Lord s anointed . The turning point of their relationship occurred in 1 Samuel 18, after David had defeated Goliath. After
  • 6. Tobacco Of Tobacco And Tobacco The younger the individual when they initially start smoking, the greater the possibility of addiction and becoming a lifelong smoker (King, 2015). Tobacco addiction is an issue the United States is struggling with, partially due to the fact that 90% of adult smokers began before or by the age of 18 (Ahmad, 2015). Researchers believe that since younger people become easily addicted to tobaccoand older people have an easier time quitting tobacco product use, raising the minimum age for tobacco sales could prevent this addiction from spreading (Ahmad, 2015). Public opinion about tobacco use, the Tobacco 21 bill, California s computer model, retail, and the comparison in impact between alcohol and tobacco purchasing ages are all considered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The state hopes to accomplish this through their Tobacco 21 bill, but they worry about compliances with the retailers of tobacco products. In order to ensure compliance, the State Department of Health Services in California will conduct 4 random checks annually at tobacco outlets (Ahmad, 2015). There are an estimated 73,700 tobacco selling outlets in California which means there will be a total of 294,800 inspections per year (Ahmad, 2015). To help support the Tobacco 21 bill, the government of California has developed an elaborate computer model. The model calculates the possibilities if the legal tobacco age was raised from 18 to 21 while including multiple aspects in the consideration of the results presented by the model. The model presents drastic changes in smokers of all different age categories over a fifty year span (Ahmad, 2015). The 14 17 year old category is estimated to drop from 15.4% to 2.4%, the 18 20 year old category could drop from 16.8% to 7.9%, and the 21 and older category could drop from 16.7% to 12.6%. The model also presented the results for the legal age being increased to 19 or 20, and while those results proved that the prevalence dropped, it is not as drastic as if the age were raised to 21. This proves that the age gap between 21 year olds and underage tobacco users is significant enough to reduce the start of use and

In order to understand precisely how MacGregor makes his case, it is necessary first to explain his exploration of ideas put forth about father sonrelationships in general. • 16. Negative Essay On Gentrification Gentrification is the process of renovating an area so that it conforms to middle class tastes. Low income minority neighborhoods are often the targets of gentrification, which makes this subject rather controversial, and rightly so. Gentrification often has the effect of pushing the native low income residents out of their neighborhoods due to rising rent costs and increased cost of living. The process typically starts with young, educated, artistic, mostly white people beginning to move into predominately low income minority neighborhoods, because they are attracted by the low housing costs and low propertyvalues compared to the rest of the city. Lofts are built and music venues are opened along with new bars and restaurants. These new developments begin to attract more traditional middle and upper class people, they too are drawn in by the relatively low property values and begin to buy homes and renovate them. This new influx of people has caused developers to begin buying and renovating houses in the area to attract more middle and upper class people. All the while, the native residents have been having their rents raised to the point that they can no longer afford to live in their neighborhood anymore. They are forced to relocate and attempt to find more affordable housingelsewhere. This sad cycle has been repeated countless times in cities across America. As a student at Temple University, I see this process firsthand each day in North Philadelphia as our campus
  • 17. The Tragedy Of Agamemnon By Sophocles Essay When discussing Greek tragedies, there is a theme of anger and revenge that is somewhat underling in many texts of this tragic nature. In Agamemnon by Aeschylus the main character Agamemnon faces these constructs head on mostly as a direct result of his decision to sacrifice his daughter. However, this is not the only case where anger and revenge is exhibited in the tragedy of Agamemnonas in truth it runs rampant throughout the text. Another tragedy that exhibits these traits is that of Medea written by Euripides. The central character Medea was abandoned by her husband Jason and resultantly she made a choice to pursue a revenge plot against Jason that entailed the murder of their children. An interesting parallel between these texts is the role that children played in these pursuits of anger and revenge. What this really shows about Greek tragedies is the strong role of family that is present when it comes to tragic events that are generally resultant of anger which can then lead to revenge and thus death, hence perhaps why such works are referred to as tragedies. In Agamemnon, the main character Agamemnon was headed off to the well known Trojan war when he encountered strong winds sent by the goddess Artemis. Rather than abandon the war and turn back Agamemnon made the choice to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia to please Artemis so he could go on his way. However, by making this decision Agamemnon unwittingly planted the seeds of revenge in his wife s heart that would

These terms tend to create the idea that the child who is being treated will be cured, especially since modern medicine is viewed to prolong life and cure the incurable (or at least manage the disease). Therefore, when Harper incorporates medicine into his poem it naturally brings about hope that the child will survive. Overall, Harper does a brilliant job in describing the emotions of a parent who loses a child. The hope that their child will be okay in the hands of doctors and the despair when they find out that modern medicine has failed them. Also, the regret that a parent feels after losing a child. Even though Harper does play with the emotional curve of an elegy by not having solace at the end, it can be argued that he is able to entirely capture the emotion of a parent because many parents do not come to accept their child s

H. Pylori is more prevalent in crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene, smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria; proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. The Spanish, French, and English all established rather successful colonies in the Americas but the locations of these colonies varied by founding country. The Spanish crown sponsored conquests gained riches for Spain and helped expand its empire. Originally claiming the Bahamas and most of South America the Spanish Empire eventually claimed most of the southern and southwestern regions of the North America, as well as sections of the California coast. The French were likely as ambitious but found it difficult to compare to the vast dominance of the Spanish in the Americas. Their first colonies were trading posts in Newfoundland and eastern Canada. But French posts were established in the St. Lawrence valley, part of Canada, and the Mississippi River area. Their empire eventually reigned from very northeast Canada all the way south to Louisiana. For the English most colonies were established by royal charter. Hence, the potential resulting in bias research findings, if used by local government when intervening in determining housing policies in gentrifying stagnant towns and cities may be wrongly misguided. This process began in the Canonbury area of Islington; spread to Barnsbury and other parts of Islington, as well as Camden, Notting Hill, Primrose Hill, Kentish Town, Holland Park, and West Greenwich in the 1960s; and reached as far as Hackney in East London and parts of South London like Lambeth, Battersea, Clapham, and Fulham in the 1970s. (Moran, 2007, p.101) Before the 1950s, the North London Borough of Islington was at a broken area, its once grand Regency and Victorian houses split into poorly maintained,
  • 49. Religion and Women Essay Religion and Women Religion can be seen to act as a social control over women to a large extent. The feminist perspective argues religion serves the interests of men and cements patriarchal power. Karen Armstrong points out the ways in which God has been redefined by each era, by men to continually meet their needs. We can see this in relation to two main ideas, the nature of religious imagery. In most religions, women tend to be portrayed in terms of their traditional social characteristics. The Virgin Mary in Christian religion for example. Although a powerful figure her power, is ideological rather than political the virtues of purity, chastity, motherhood and so forth are personified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are told they are close to God as they produce a soul of god when they are mothers but this is used to control them and they in turn socialize the children into the religion and the ideology, ultimately not recognising their inequality and it all benefits men. The nature of religious organisation is another issue when stating the extent to which religion is used as a social control over women. While women, feature strongly in both religious participation and to a certain extent, imagery, it is evident that there has been a very noticeable inequality between males and females in terms of positions of power and authority within religious organisations. Although some sects have allowed women to preach and spread the word, the majority of the world s major religions have tended to relegate women to relatively subordinate roles, in terms of their power, authority and influence in their organisation (which further reflects women s experience in the social world). However the extent to which religion has been used vas a social control over women can be questioned as in relation to Christianity, the decision in 1994 by the Church of England to ordain women as priests and to allow them to take charge of Church services is a significant development to note. Also some religions do not convey the same ideology as others and are more egalitarian such

While trying to collect the debt we have consumer protection laws we have to abide by. When I started in 2008 there were always rules and regulations that had to be followed but over time things changed, one of the major challenges we had to face was in communication. In the past we were able to use our automated dialer system to call debtors land line, times have change majority of the people have dropped land lines and are now using cell phones. There are laws in place where you cannot call a cell phone using an automated system it has to be done manually. When the law changed it slowed us down dramatically, and it was hard adapting to that change. We went from speaking with 300 debtors a day to 40 which was very hard. We overcame that challenge. • 51. Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Recitatif By Joseph Conrad Race, Ethnicity, and Nationality are a vital part of any individual. The overall population on our planet is growing and becoming more diverse. The importance of these things in American Society is very complicated. Race represents the evolution of culture from many years ago, Ethnicity symbolizes who we are and how we are influenced, and Nationality tells us where we come from. Although there are many theories; race, ethnicity, and nationality are socially formed and is real in society. The affects they have on peer groups, media, and children have a big impact on the way people live on a day to day basis. Postcolonial literature addresses the problems of decolonization of many non western countries becoming independent from western control. Postcolonial literature focuses on racial relationships and the effects of race itself. An example of Postcolonial literature is Joseph Conrad s text, Heart of Darkness . This text described a sailor s journey up the Congo River. The novel also allowed readers to understand his feelings towards the empire and the ruthless treatment of the African natives. Another Postcolonial text that brings race and ethnicity together is Toni Morrison s story, Recitatif . The story is about two young girls who share a rocky friendship. The issue of race plays a ... • 53. Total Quality Management in Construction Total Quality Management In Construction The major new element in world market competition is quality. During the 1970 s and 1980 s, the Japanese and their U.S. companies demonstrated that high quality is achievable at lower costs and greater customer satisfaction. It was the result of using the management principles of total quality management (TQM). More and more U.S. companies have demonstrated that such achievements are possible Using TQM as a new way to manage. Such companies also found that they were recognized with everyone pulling in the same direction. Improvement had become a way of live. Improving competitive position and profit has always been the responsibility of management. Before the 1980 s, U.S. management was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If well crafted, the vision statement can serve through a torrent of change in product and service technology. The strategic vision needs to consider both the external customer and the employees, but should lack a defining or differentiating phrase between them. For example, General Motors provides all employees a card with its strategic vision, including a cause effect diagram that indicates the importance of team work (figure 2). Simply stating a vision is not enough. It needs to be demonstrated by the actions of the executives, managers , superiors, foremen, and individuals. It should be done continuously in all their actions and initiatives. Moreover, deliberation must be exercised in developing these goals and strategies. They must reflect the values and culture of the work force. While top management commitment is essential, managers should realize when to lead and when to get out of the way. In a sense quality management is management from the bottom up. An atmosphere of responsibility must be created toward the customer for whatever product is produced or service is rendered (fig.3, below). 2. Barrier Removal It is inevitable that change will be resisted. In fact, a great deal of effort in quality management is expended in overcoming such resistance, usually by allowing change to come from individuals directly involved, rather from management. The whole idea of continuous improvement leads to continuous change. Some of these
  • 54. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Summary Early New Journalism is a product of alienation between the generation that emerged after World War II and their predecessors. That sense of alienation led to a need for connection and a craving for societal revolution, which, in turn, generated an age of radicalism. Reflecting that radicalism, journalism of the time is written as a detailed train of thought of the writer in order to create a connection with the audience. Similarly, new journalists often braid philosophical ideas into their historical accounts to further bridge the gap between author and audience. Doctor Hunter S. Thompson in his gonzo journalist roman Г clef, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, reflects upon the decline of youth culture rebellion during the late 1960 s to early 1970 s while on a trip to Las Vegas by expressing opinions to the reader via his distinctly blunt and... Raoul Duke , shamelessly recounts his drug induced hallucinations of huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car and a huge reptile, gnawing on a woman s neck to give the audience the same, bewildered feelings that he felt. The lack of boundaries in the narrator s speech makes the reader feel as if he or she is experiencing the confusing hallucinations as well, generating a relationship between the reader and Raoul Duke. Thus, the reader s access to Duke s struggles against his own mind gives him or her a personal connection to the narrator. Furthermore, Duke often speaks of his bad waves of paranoia , expressing to the reader his own fears. This creates an intimacy between journalist and consumer. The two become acquainted through the chapters because Duke s shared thoughts are so abnormally accessible, a reason why New Journalism was embraced by an estranged
  • 55. High School Censorship Persuasive Speech Many college students today might say, Stick and stones may break my bones, but words really offend me, so you can t say that. These students would be wrong legally to prevent others from freely speaking their minds in public, but in a college classroom they would be awarded. Censoring is not only in college classrooms, but in high school classrooms as well. It impedes on a student s ability to develop and learn, hinders their ability to prepare for the modern day world. Although clichГ©, and very sadly so, it is very apparent that today there is almost nothing that can be said that offends nobody. Thick skins have been replaced with fragile minds, and college students do not even know the extent of the first amendment. However, these same students believe they have the right to interpret the amendment their own way, and some believe they have the right to become the judiciary system if the speech doesn t appeal to them. When determining an opinion on any argument, it is important to start with the facts. In a survey taken by John Villasenor, forty percent of college students surveyed believe that hate speech is not protected by the first amendment, and twenty percent believe violence used to stop hate speech is acceptable. All those students are wrong. Hate speech is protected by the first amendment, and using violence as justification for ending hate speech is not legal. While not everyone in society has to be a constitutional expert, college students today are tomorrow s future lawyers, judges, police officers, etc. They need to at least know the extent of the first amendment in the United States. Additionally, these students should know that since hate speech is protected, responding with violence is by no means the answer as they will be the only ones to find themselves in jail. These students must lower their fists, and pull out the textbooks and construct the picket signs, using vigorous debate and peaceful protests as their response to bigotry. The other problem is that judges don t sit outside or around college campuses and determine when someone s right to free speech is infringed. Therefore, when a significant portion of the students believe they have the right to silence or prevent the

The clinical practice situation and the issue stated was two patients misbehaving in the mental health ward and the team leader and student nurse decided that a ping pong tournament was the way to ease the tension between the two clients. This form of leadership is called transformational leadership. Transformational leadershipin healthcare includes promoting teamwork among staff, encouraging positive self esteem and motivating staff to function at a high level of performance (Smith Atkinson, 2011). The implications for leadership in the future nursing practice is vital and is critical in clinical areas where new graduates are present; as it promotes a healthy environment for the employees and staff (Smith Atkinson, 2011) . The clinical practice situation and the issue stated was two patients misbehaving in the mental health ward and the team leader and student nurse decided that a ping pong tournament was the way to ease the tension between the two clients. I felt like if the team leader didn t step in and communicate with two patients and extinguish the flame before it exploded it would have ended up worse for wear over someone looking at them the wrong way. I felt that when the student nurse suggested the ping pong tournament it was a great idea. As it releases the anger and stress within the person. According to the Australian Nursing Collage defines leadership as it s heart; leadership is broadly accepted to be about influencing others to accomplish common

James Cook having garnered the experience now knew his way around a ship and his knowledge of the tricky waters of Britain was stellar. He could claim experience and knowledge of the waters in the North Sea, the Baltic routes, the Irish Sea and the Channel but this was clearly not enough an achievement for the ambitious Cook. Within only 4 years, James Cook had become a ship Master, and spent years charting the North Atlantic coastal waters of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and the Saint Lawrence River below Quebec,
