Chapter 7--The Health Care Workforce and Chapter 8—Financing Health
Answer the following questions on Health Care Workforce/Personnel:
The majority of schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, and other professions and their teaching hospitals are heavily subsidized by federal and state funds. Many of those graduates, when they become health practitioners, feel no obligation to society for their publicly supported education. Do health care providers who reap the benefits of high compensation and social position have an ethical responsibility to repay taxpayers by meeting the needs of the medically underserved?
Technical advances in health care have spawned an ever-increasing number of specialty- trained personnel. More recently, however, hospitals and other institutions are promoting the cross-training of personnel so that they can perform multiple tasks and work more flexibly, based on institution needs. What are the implications of cross training, in terms of quality of care, costs, and efficiency?
Men comprise a small segment of the nurse population, although their numbers are increasing. Given the good income potential of the nursing profession and continuing demand, what is your opinion about why nursing does not attract more males?
Answer the following questions on Health Care Financing:
Name one (1) way each of the following has affected the costs of health care in the US?
The health insurance industry
Advances in medical care technology
Changes in U.S. demographics
Government support for health care
Consumer expectations
If we accept the premises that resources available to meet the costs of health care are finite, and that continuing to increase dollars allocated for health care expenses carries “opportunity costs“ for the nation and society, discuss your position on the following: As a national policy should we allocate a set level of resources and apply them to achieving “the greatest good for the greatest number” (necessarily leaving some out) OR should we adopt the individualist approach of “those who can pay get, those who can’t pay, don’t?”
From the patient perspective, what might be some of the positive and negative aspects of “disease management programs?”

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
1. Essay On Health Care Reform
The publics' opinion has had many influences on the debate on healthcare and healthcare reform.
Although an issue primarily in charge by the government, many people have been voicing their
opinion dating back all the way to the introduction of Medicare. Recent surveys have shown many
trends and many variations in public opinion that take a toll on health care reform. These opinions
played a very important role in the overall results of polls in the federal health care reform debate.
The polls that were studied were pulled from a range of opinion pulls dating back to 1943 however,
only 2008 and 2009–2010 reform opinions were pin pointed and reviewed/studied. These polls
specifically selected dealt with changes to the health care system as well...show more content...
Sadly many Americans do not have health care while not participating in the debate to receive it.
No matter what happens in term of reform, whether Obamacare being discontinued or a new bill
for health care arises, this issue will always spark much debate within the government and in the
publics' eye. Healthcare will always be heavily politicized time and time again. If health care is
turned into something so extreme that it affects more and more people (even those who were
happily covered), a public push for reform will become that much

Abstract
Some hospital trusts and health authorities consistently outperform others on different dimensions of
performance. Why? There is some evidence that "management matters", as well as the combined
efforts of individual clinicians and teams. However, studies that have been conducted on the link
between the organisation...show more content...
However, these reports are similarly concerned with issues of motivating, engaging, and rewarding
staff which may be linked to patient outcomes as well as to business success. Greater attention to the
work that has been done on organisational performance, broadly defined, could illuminate our
attempts to link the characteristics of hospitals and units to the kind of care they are able to provide
to patients.
Of course, the disciplines of organisational sociology and human resource management are vast and
the aims of this paper are modest. It is impossible to treat the literature on these subjects in great
depth here. The main aim of this paper is to identify a number of "landmark studies", defined as
frequently cited review articles, that try to make sense of the burgeoning literature on organisational
performance. These studies could contribute to the development of theory in this area. A second aim
is to identify variables at different levels of analysis–individual, organisational, and
environmental–that could be used in future models of hospital organisation and quality of patient
care.

3. Essay On Healthcare System
There is significant opportunity and a tremendous need to improve health system performance in the
United States. The U.S. health care system is the costliest in the world, yet it ranks last or next to
last on five dimensions of a high–performance health system quality, access, efficiency, equity, and
healthy lives. Within our own borders, there is wide variation in performance across states on
indicators of access, quality, and costs, demonstrating that. Although, there is much to learn about
improving quality and efficiency better performance is clearly achievable with targeted policies and
actions.
The U.S. spends far more on health care than any other country in the world. Yet we get fewer
benefits, less than ideal health outcomes. A...show more content...
If these initial problems turn into dropping failures accompanied by massive disruptions of existing
coverage and care. Congress will be forced to act.
Health care policy is no longer abstract when it directly affects the personal lives and health of
millions of Americans. Under the ACA, Congress has prescribed a detailed federal role over health
care financing, but financing directly and immediately affects the delivery of health care and how
Americans access that care. The ACA has delivered higherhealth insurance premiums, higher
deductibles, and less competitive health insurance markets. This does not promise well for care
delivery. Particularly if it means increased waits, rationing of care, limited or no access, and poor
quality of care. Americans' private lives and their health decisions should be spared the consequences
of such incompetent intrusions.
Practical changes in health care policy could fix the problems of the few without harming the care
of the many. Health care reform legislation should follow the principle primum non nocere ("first
do no harm") by carefully targeting the root of the problem, not by granting vast regulatory power
to unaccountable government officials who issue random laws. Every day the ACA is the "law of
the land" risks permanent damage to the health care sector of the economy and the lives of
Americans.
There is no shortage of policy prescriptions for normal and overpoweringly significant health care
reform:

Health Care Abstract "Health Care", This is becoming more important in today's world of
corporate streamlining, downsizing, and increased health care costs. A compensation package for
the employees of today is more valuable than it has ever been. The average employee no longer is
just concerned with the wages or salary they receive, their attention has been drawn to the overall
compensation package. As health care costs rise the importance of an enrollment in a health care
plan grows. Health care will continue to be an important factor for employees as long as costs

The health care plans help to attract and maintain a stable workforce thus, enabling the
organization to meet its goals of production or service. 2. Health care plans provided by an
employer may be similar to what the military provides, which covers all expenses for the military
member. This type of plan requires the family members to pay a deductible amount of the
services provided 3. The employer may also provide subsidized or reduced health care plans as
part of the compensation package. Subsidized plans may be significantly lower in cost to an
employee than if they purchased the plans on their own. Private health care plans costs for an
employee can run one and a half to three times as much as what an employer can provide. This is
due to the buying power of an organization when it is in a group plan rather than an individualized
plan. 4. A factor in deciding the need for a compensation plan is whether or not a stable full time
work force is needed. The need for a stable workforce base helps to finalize the decision for
including the health care as part of the compensation package. A healthy work force ensures the
employees are ready and able to perform their assigned duties. B. Health care needs are not limited
to the lower paid employees of an organization. Employees at all levels of earning and positions
require some form of health care

Healthcare has many different areas one can go into if interested in this field. I have chosen two that
have always been an interest to me; Nursing (particularly registered nursing) and an EMT
(Emergency Medical Technician). Both jobs are very demanding and extremely important. Both are
respected jobs and require a tremendous amount of caring for others.
There are three levels of nursing; certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
or a Registered Nurse (RN). A registered nurse is the highest level of nursing. In order to practice
nursing you must have an Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor Degree in Nursing, or in some
cases a diploma in nursing from an accredited school. Nursing can provide many opportunities

They have to be comfortable with people in the most intimate circumstance because of the nature of
dealing with different health situations. A registered nurse works with clients, their families and
communities in various settings. They can work in nursing homes, assisted living, and adult foster
care homes. Compensation for a registered nurse is pretty good. The median annual earnings in
Oregon in 2008 were $62,450, with the lowest wage being $43,410 and the highest being $76, 570.
The physical demands require that a person be physically capable of standing for long periods of
time. Nurses often assist in lifting and moving patients and can work up to 12 hour days. They must
also have technical abilities because of some of the computerized equipment. According to the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the primary hazard in patient care is blood borne
pathogens, such as hepatitis B and HIV. Nurses are exposed to a variety of infectious diseases so
they must be very careful and follow the safety guidelines. A typical day includes accessing patient
needs, creating treatment plans and evaluating their progress. They must also educate the patient and
the families involved.
The good things about having a Nursing degree is that you can choose a specialized area after you
graduate. Pediatric nursing is one area that a registered nurse might want to specialize in. A
pediatric nurse is one who cares for younger people from infant age up to the teen

Healthcare is a major political subject for individuals in power especially in the Unites States of
America and because of this ongoing issue, health has a constant wave of changes that has resulted
in a long history of health reform in both Canada and the United States of America. In this analysis,
it shows somewhere down the fountain of healthcare history, the development of health insurance in
both Canada and the United States started to separate or –"Parting at the Crossroads" as Maioni

As for Canada, we took the leap that is now considered the difference in health reform and health
insurance development between Canada and the United States. Universal access and public
administration was now an essential part for federal involvement in provincial health insurance
programs. Maioni gave us strong historical evidence which supported her claim of the influential
roles that played in health reform and policy . What she is portraying to the audience is the mere
constant political leaps that had a domino effect against the development of health insurance and
health reform. Due to the political agendas of both countries, each created their own roads to health
reform and even if by experimentation. Now we can see the growth of health reform in its own
entirety from each country. The United States still allows itself to be bullied by propaganda and
division of political parties which is the result of the health reform setbacks the United States wounds
themselves with. The reoccurrence of country wide health insurance on political "to–do list," rest

7. Essay On Health Care
Healthcare the Right Way Debate over the U.S. healthcare reform law – the Affordable Care Act
(ACA) or Obamacare – have raged for almost a decade, with new fury now in the "repeal and
replace" initiatives of the Trump administration (Berwick). The act is complex, the more so because
its provisions build on an already tortuous non–system of financing and delivering care to the people
of the U.S. (Berwick). Providing Americans with "affordable healthcare" is still lacking, therefore the
U.S. health sector qualifies for some government intervention. A more fundamental reform, such as
Trumpcare, is needed because (1) Americans get their choice (which is their right), whether they
want to get insurance or not, (2) it provides Americans with...show more content...
It's because Obamacare makes health insurance more expensive and people can't afford it! The
emphasis of the ACA has been to expand the number of Americans with some kind of health
insurance (Geyman). But, whether this helps to make healthcare more affordable depends on other
important factors, including prices and cost of healthcare, the value of insurance coverage (usually
60%–70% actuarial value), household incomes of patients and their families, and other essential
costs of living (Geyman). Notwithstanding the gains of the ACA (according to some) there still
remains ongoing problems, such as two stated by Dr. Geyman (1) there is no evidence yet that the
ACA has improved quality of care and by 2019, (2) when the ACA is fully implemented there will
still be about 36 million uninsured plus an unknown number who choose not to participate in the
exchanges often because of costs. We can attribute these economic pathologies of U.S. health care to
market failure. As we learned in our textbook on page 267, when there is market failure, the private
market fails to achieve efficient output, because either firms do not account for all costs incurred in
the production of output and/or consumers do not account for all benefits obtained (a positive
externality). In other words, social costs of production exceed social benefits to consumers, and the
market produces too much of the product (OpenStax, pg.

The main function for health care financing is to pay for health insurance premium and reimburse
health providers for services delivered. Still, there is a crucial challenge when creating health
insurance plans, provide coverage for "health care needs without encouraging unnecessary
spending." (Maas) Over time, health care financing has been evolving, and now consumers can
acquire health insurance through government programs like Medicare, which it is for the elderly, for
certain individuals with disabilities and end–stage renal disease. Therefore, any person who meets
the requirements can enroll to this program. Also, there is Medicaid, which it is the program for the
poor, and Children's Health Insurance Program best known as CHIP, which insure kids who come
from low–income families. Nonetheless, there are several types of private insurance like
self–insured plans, individual private health insurance, Medigap, and group insurance program,
which it is "... a substantial number of people in the group will purchase insurance through its
sponsor." (Shi, 2019, p. 224) Further, thanks to the diversity and wide range of health insurance

less likely to take care of their health when they have the ease to frequently consult a doctor and use
any medical service at any time, therefore with health insurance there is an increase in health care
spending, "but the value of this care is less than its cost, generating... loss." (Nyman, 2004)
Additionally, since such services are reimbursed to health care providers by health care financing
there is a "potential to increase health care costs." (Thoma,

Policymaking in the U.S. by Longest Chapter 1 Discussion Questions 1.Define health. What are the
determinants of health in humans? Health is defined as the "state of complete mental, physical, and
social well–being that is necessary to live a meaniful and productive life. Health determinants are
the physical, behavior along with biological, social factors that affects a person's health. 2.Define
public policies and health policies. Public policies is defined as the "authoritative decisions made in

Such affects causes an increase in disease such as lung cancer, chemical burns, hearing difficulties
and increase hospitalizations. This means that the federal government must pay out more in
healthcare expenses. However, effective health policies would eliminate certain aspects of health
expenses. 2.Discuss the impact of health policies on human behavior and biology. Human behavior
and biology are basically the human chemical(biology) along with choices that are made. For
example, human behavior would be an individual that choose to smoke and have unprotected sex.
Factors that often times lead to individuals desire to drink, smoke, and have unprotected sex are
things such as depression, stress and anger. Also the fact that some individuals have a genetic
predisposition that influence such desires. Health policies are established to prevent or limit such
activities. Today, we have smoke free restaurants and hospitals. Healthcare providers also give out
literature to educate patients on the harmful effects of smoking, drinking and unprotected sex.
3.Discuss the impact of health policies on the social factors that help determine health. Health
policies such as parenting classes, comprehensive preschools along with housing improvements and
disease prevention all help lower the factors that contribute to unhealthy adults and children. Social
factors such as poverty, unemployment, and lack of

Denise Durante Health Care Trends HCA 459 Jacqueline McClure October 11, 2010 The survival of
health care industry is going to require some innovative and creative initiatives to with stand the
trends of the future in this country. Over the past two decades, American hospitals have experienced
dramatic changes in their economic and institutional environments. Government–mandated
cost–containment efforts, a shift from cost–based reimbursement to prospective payment, increased
control of managed care plans, and advances in medical technology that reduce inpatient care have
created enormous pressures on hospitals and have threatened their very survival (Bnet, 1999). This
type of transformation has caused many institutions to take a...show more content...
Health care facilities abiding by the regulations set forth will ensure that patients and communities
will have a safe environment for the maintenance and prevention of their health care needs and
treatments that are provided by health care providers. Maintaining and delivering health care in
today's era requires improved information technology. This is essential in the survival of health care
today. When instituting health care in rural and suburban areas it is necessary to implement quality
high–tech information technology. This enables physicians to obtain results in a timely manner
which can be beneficial to diagnosis. Although services are provided on an off–site basis, sometimes
it is necessary to transport patients to the main facility. This is why it is imperative to have improved
information technology in place. It may be a little costly initially and may or may not prove to be
beneficial in the interim. While a particular new technology may either increase or decrease health
care spending, researchers generally agree that, taken together, advances in medical technology have
contributed to rising overall U.S. health care spending. Rettig describes how new medical technology
affects the costs of health care through the following "mechanisms of action." * Development of new
treatments for previously untreatable terminal conditions, including long–term maintenance

11. Essay On Health Care
A Better Healthcare Future for America? With the passing of the contentious and highly debated
American Health Care Act less than a month ago, Americans on all sides of the political spectrum
have become fiercely divided over the act and its benefits. Members of the Democratic party contend
that the act is lacking it its coverage, whereas Republicans argue that the bill is an economic
nightmare which doesn't do enough to control the rampant costs of Obamacare and its medicaid
expansion. One might ask as to which sides complaints are more valid, and for the most part both
Democrats and Republicans are both valid in their indignation for the American Health Care Act.

As a direct result, these credits are far less beneficial to those at a lower income level. Further,
these credits are static and do not change on a state by state basis, meaning to the citizens of states
with higher costs of living, these credits are substantially less beneficial, resulting in more and
more individuals opting out of paying for expensive healthcare costs. Finally, the AHCA puts
forward the notion of a "state block grant" for medicaid. In essence, the federal government will
hand out a static amount of money for each state, but allowing the states to create their own
medicaid benefits. This static amount is nowhere near as flexible as the previous system in
which the federal government shared a percentage of the cost of medicaid. Consequently,
according to the "How could Trump change health care in America by the balance, the act is
estimated "[to prevent] seven to ten million people from getting insurance by 2024." Clearly the
Democrats aren't sensationalizing the notion of this widespread lack of coverage under the
American Health Care Act. Republicans many of whom voted for Trump in the hopes of pairing
down the excessive, unchecked cost of Obamacare and the possibility for tax cuts, are also valid in
their anger towards the AHCA. One of the key tax changes pushed in the AHCA was the removal
of taxes on drugs and medical supply companies. Although the idea of tax cuts seems to fall in line
with these voters views, these tax cuts will actually
