Ethics At A Young Age
When I think of Ethics, I think of trying to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and
morally doing the right thing when it comes to making decisions. Ethics occurs throughout all
different parts of our everyday lives. We begin to learn ethics at a young age and continue to learn
it as we get older, according to our jobs, or our places in life. For instance, we learned that it is
wrong to take someone s toy away, or to hurt someone when we were younger. However, once
we became older, we learned it is bad to distort information to make oneself look good. For
example, in concept analysis 4 3, Brown wants to raise the depreciation expense of the company s
machines so when they are sold at a loss the company does not look bad (Kieso,... Show more

Those are things we do not do. People also tend to think of virtues such as honesty and loyalty as
good ethical standards (What is Ethics). Although there is a slight distinction between what is
ethical and what is not, there is a not a written rule book on ethics. Ethics is important in the
Accounting Profession just as much as it is important in any other profession. When in the
accounting profession, we will be faced with decisions on a daily basis that we will have to
decide if they are ethical or not. For instance, one CEO, Kenseth, is nervous about large
stockholders who have been vocal about her lately and she considers buying them out by
purchasing their shares, so she can eliminate the competition and maintain her leadership as CEO
(Kieso, Weygandt, Warfield, Pg. 871). She has to decide if she should buy them out or not. If she
bought them out, that would be unethical because she is using inside information and her
authority to benefit herself. She should keep in mind what is good for the company as a whole,
and not just what is good for herself. Additionally, depending on the company, the more particular
they are, the harder it is on the Accountants to make ethical decisions. They are constantly
worrying about Am I presenting this information in a good or bad way , or Is this right or wrong
(Kieso, Weygandt, Warfield, Pg. 21). For instance, in the case where Weller wants to implement a
rule that will present the financial conditions in a

Imagery In Blood Meridian
McCarthy s descriptions of the setting in Chapter four of his fifth published book, Blood
Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West (McCarthy, 1985), published in 1985, and sets a
visual imagery for the reader to experience the book as one of the characters. Chapter four begins
with the charters heading into the desert with minimal food and supplies. Throughout the trip
many men fall ill and pass away along with their horses. The characters encounter numerous
obstacles with wolves and the desert sand. The chapter ends with most of the characters being
slaughtered by several Comanche warriors leaving only a few alive, one of them being the Kid.
Blood Meridian is a novel that challenges the myth of the western American landscape being this
Promised Land for those heroic men who were brave enough to dare to concur it. By McCarthy
describing the landscape as less than attractive, the empty villages, dry dessert and numerous dead
bodies found.
Death is seen as the end of life, the end of what was once beautiful and pure. In the book, Blood

Throughout the novel many animal sounds are described to the reader such as the prairie wolves
howling (McCarthy 44), and the snarling of flies (McCarthy 45). There are animals who do not
make sounds but are present and seen by the characters also such as the wild pigs and numerous
birds (McCarthy 44). The animals presence reminds the reader that the landscape is not vacant and
there are other signs of life out there.
In Blood Meridian the characters appear to be insignificant but in relation to the enormous open
landscape they move through. The lack of life and plantation make it impossible to hide and seek
shelter, which makes the characters exposed. The huge sky, with the vital sun and empty dessert
landscape depicts the land as an enormous space full of emptiness, a place beyond civilization

Miami Descriptive Writing
Running up and down the wooden stairs back forth. I was excited to go to Miami this summer.
Throwing in my favorite rip shorts, blue tank and black sneakers. I smell bake bacon from the
kitchen. I knew my mama was cooking breakfast before I leave for my trip. I had to put
something in my belly before I took off. Miami is the most southerly city in the continental United
State. Miami is a memorable trip to me because of the beautiful South Beach, the different
restaurants and the Everglades. Chirp, chirp, chirp as I hear and see the lovely black birds past
me. While I m running on the beach, I could see the sun cast its golden rays down upon the cloud
turning them bright red, fired red. Its 6:30am in beautiful Miami. I hear the splashing... Show more

Everywhere I look I could see a massive wait at the door. Lucky for me, I made a reservation. I
went to this restaurant called 43 Sea . The young male host sat me at a comfortable red booth.
My server greeted me right away with her pearly white teeth. All I wanted was a cold water with
lemon. While I waited for the waitress to come back, I could smell something fishy. Yes, of
course, someone order fish. Gross! The restaurant was really coward and full of people with
smiles on their faces. Waa, Waa, Wawa! I could hear the baby crying out for its mother. I order
the Grilled to perfection; 1 l/b grilled lobster, asparagus, crispy fingerling potatoes. My food
came out smelling fresh. My food tasted delicious. I ate everything off my plate. But I had to
order dessert. There are so many delicious desserts that I wanted to try. I choose the cheesecake
that is made with cream cheese and cottage cheese. Its smooth and creamy, just sweet enough,
with a hint of tartness. The taste just blew my heart away. On the 5th page there s 26 dessert
listed. I was so full. I couldn t eat anymore. Picture this sitting at a table with a full round belly.

Impact Of Green Supply Chain Management On Industry,...
This paper investigates the impact of green supply chain management on industry, consumer
perception and environment. Through research into multiple companies and case studies, a
distorted perception among large corporations shows a historic struggle to find a balance between
profit and sustainability. However, the potential long term effects of the lack of environmental
courtesy cannot be undone and therefore must be carefully engineered. Multi billion dollar
automotive corporations such as Hyundai and Toyota will be discussed and studied in depth to
conclude the innovative changes contributed in the automotive industryresulting in maximum
efficiency in lean and green production. Additionally, while studying these companies, the overall
question of whether intentional sustainable practices provide increased customer satisfaction and
comfort is answered through a survey given to 100 random people. In this small sample, it was
found that 33% of consumers care about green business practices in automotive production but only
8% saw an increase in value because of it. Keywords: green supply chain, automotive sustainability,

Pigafetta s Eater Mutiny
In 1522, the expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan that circumnavigated the entire world reached its
end. Unfortunately, most of the crew perished before the end of the expedition including Magellan.
One important event during the expedition was the mutiny against Magellan. Though Magellan
was not killed in the mutiny, the mutiny must still be investigated. The main problem is that only
two written records exist that document the expedition. One of these records was written by
Antonio Pigafetta. But is Pigafetta s account reliable? Pigafetta s account of the Eater Mutiny is
fairly valid because it is mostly factual, matter of fact, and he took his chronicling seriously. If
someone is hysterical, are you going to believe what they are saying?... Show more content on

Even if an account is emotionless, one must consider if the relevant facts are present. Pigafetta s
account does most of the relevant facts concerning the events of the voyage and the Easter
Mutiny. In order to see if these facts can be trusted, one must look for any opinions. Pigafetta s
undoubtedly had his own opinions, but he did not mention them in his account, thereby
ensuring its validity. One can tell if an account is true if it is corroborated by other sources.
Pigafetta s account is corroborated by both Documents D and E. It can be noted that Pigafetta
neglected some details about the reasoning for the mutiny out of his loyalty to Magellan, but
perhaps he did not know the exact reasoning as the men planning the mutiny would have likely
avoided speaking in front of him as they knew of his loyalty to Magellan, who they were
planning to kill and later discredit. Furthermore, Pigafetta is said to have kept the best record of
the journey in Document B. If a modern historian has said that Pigafetta s report is the best
record they have, one can assume that said report is factual and therefore reliable. In the story
about the boy who cried wolf, people stopped believing him because he was not serious.
However, this is not the case with Pigafetta s account as he took his role as a chronicler very
seriously. From the very beginning, he wrote down what was happening on board,

Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society
1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the
reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how
it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety
of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought
process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but
society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is
our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world
building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting
with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape
society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language.
Internalization is man using the structures of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and
opinions. These all maintain a stable society with a similar reality.... Show more content on

Nomos a meaningful order (Berger 19). Nomos is society establishing order for individuals.
This brings the people closer together because they are required to know the rules that they must
follow. Anomy radical separation from the social world (Berger 21). Anomy is a concern for
most individuals in society because they fear isolation. It is easier for people to belong to a
group, since being isolated can be difficult. This is why people rather conform to customs of
society, even if it is not necessarily

Evolution In Gift Of Cochise, All The Pretty Horses, And...
Consequently, as evidenced by the protagonists evolution in Gift of Cochise, All the Pretty Horses,
and The Martian, the foretold frontier hero defined in Turner frontier hypothesis only earns claim
to the title of hero after prospering in the face of unplanned isolation and proving their worth as a
rugged individual.
While Angie openly embraces the tumultuous life on the frontier for the sake of her family in The
Gift of Cochise, her heroism grows only after the abandonment of her husband through her steadfast
resolve to stand up against the ostensibly unjust Cochise. L amour conspicuously insinuates that the
initial motivation behind Angie s move westward is to support her husband and her future family.
Her choice of settlement most clearly illuminates her truly family focused intentions on moving
west, choosing a home with grass, water, and shelter from the wind, [that] Angie with an Irish eye

undoubtedly evidences her unusually high power in her marital relationship. Her ability to dictate
her family s housing location bifurcates her from the rest of the 19th century women of her time,
but she never truly encapsulates the spirit of Turner s western hero while with Ed Lowe. Her
implicit subservience to Ed in the eyes of outsiders prevents her initially from exhibiting her heroic
qualities, until she loses Ed in the gunfight. Her advancement along the frontier after the loss

How to Successfully Grow Peaches
Although growing peaches (Prunus persica) can be a rewarding venture, they re susceptible to
mold growth that, if neglected, can affect fruit development, tree growth and ultimately your
success. Peaches are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 8, and
identifying the cause of the mold, which might be a fungal disease or insect infestation, should be
your first step to eliminating the problem. (See References 1)
Brown Rot
If your peaches have small, round, powdery tan spots that gradually seem to spread and get larger,
and eventually, turn black, you might be dealing with brown rot. This common stone fruit disease,
which starts at bloom and often affects fruit that s stuck together in clusters, is triggered by the
fungus Monilinia fructicola. This fungus overwinters in the yard in uncollected infected fruit and
stems, and as soon as the temperature reaches 40 degrees Fahrenheit, spores develop that are
spread by wind and rain to healthy tissue. Prevention and treatment of brown rot can include
removal of infected fruit and fungicide treatment before the infection occurs. (See References 2, 3
and 4)
Sooty Mold
When scales, aphids, and other sucking insect feed on your peaches, they secrete a sticky liquid
known as honeydew. Sooty mold, which is a name given to several species of fungi, can develop
on honeydew and is visible as a threadlike, dark layer that covers the effected plant parts including
the leaves and peaches. Although the

the artist weren t popular and artists wouldn t be popular if there were no fans. There is no
difference at all for a fan who bought an album of an artist and a fan who downloaded the artist

Should Undergraduates Specialize Analysis
In the essay titled Should Undergraduates Specialize? Written by Patrick N. Allitt and published in
Reading for Writers, in New York in 2013, the author presents a discussion about the differences of
the United States and The United Kingdom s school systems. Mr. Allit proposes that U.S students
should have a choice between the two school systems.
The essay is was written by Patrick Allitt to present the contrasts in his college experience to that of
his daughter, Frances, who is about to become a freshman at Emory University. The author presents
some of the obviously outward contrasts in their college careers by discussing the differences in
college systems, criterion, cost, curriculum and length of each program. Mr. Allit explains that his

The difference in these two systems create a diverse college experience. For Mr. Allit, preparing
for college consisted purely of academic criterion. There was an entrance exam, followed by a
personal interview. Mr. Allit s daughters experience will differ as the expectation for not only
academic criterion, but pre college prep is essential. Frances was encouraged to participate in
extracurricular activities as well as pursue community service, as these would greatly improve
her odds into getting into a University. The author also explains that the cost was significantly
different for him, that it will be for his daughter. Mr. Allit discusses that due to the meritocratic
school system he was apart of, each students tuition was paid in full and grants were given to
cover boarding and living expenses. His cost of college was about $400.00. His daughter on the
other hand, being apart of the decentralized system, is expected to pay approximately $150,000.00

Applying Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the...
The classic stories Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking Glass by Lewis
Carroll consist of dreamlike adventures in a crazy world of nonsense. However this nonsense can
be deciphered into a complex new system of thinking. This way of thinking can be transferred and
directly applied to the mind. How the mind works, its many varying functions, and lastly the
unconscious mindcan all be tied to Alice. The unconscious mind can be compared to Alice, as can
a dreamlike state of mind. In the first book Lewis Carroll wrote, it never states that Alice is
dreaming. It does infer that she is, though, by way of saying it was a warm day, which would
make one drowsy. You can imagine slowly drifting off and all of the sudden

So in her unconscious mind, she creates a new world of her own, filled to the brim with nonsense.
As she goes on to explore it, her adventures lead her to the conclusion that society has these rules
for a reason. Alice appears to be more mature at the end of this dream, showing you can learn from
yourself, through your unconscious mind.
The part of the brain that controls dreams is called the Pons. This region of brain near the base of
the skull transports information to the thalamus, which controls the learning and thinking aspects
of the brain. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams acted as a safety valve for desires. This could
mean that Alice truly wanted a world of ridiculousness, but knew better, but just had to prove it to
herself, subconsciously. Thus, it was like a safety net, because she never really did any of the
nonsensical things, but still learned from it. (NINDS)
To put it in a way, we ARE Alice. We can be relatively compared to her, psychologically. Alice is
confused in her mind, and hates the way things are. She doesn t see the reason behind some
things. We can be that way about things at times. Alice learned from her dreams though, before
she went berserk. This happens to us too, in a way. It may not be in a dream, but in any type of
sudden realization, about what we could not understand before, now makes sense with new
information. Once we realize something, we can use it to our use. Once Alice

Thomas Paine Contributions
Thomas Paine was alive during the 18th century and was a very influential writer of essays and
pamphlets. Some of his best known ones were The Age of Reason, which regards the place of
religion in society. Also Rights of Man, which defends the French Revolution. Finally the one he is
best known for Common Sense, which he published during the American Revolution. This book was
definitely Paine s most influential piece which turned public opinion to the view that independence
from England was needed. Thomas Painewas born on January 29, 1737. He had a Quaker father
and an Anglican mother. Paine had little formal education however was taught how to read,
write, and perform arithmetic. When Paine was thirteen he began to work with his father as a
stay maker which was the thick rope stays used on sailing ships. Later, he worked as an excise
officer. However he was not good at this, or any other early job. To add on to his hardships, around
1760, his wife and child both died in childbirth. Also his stay making business went under. His first
political work was The Case of the Officers of Excise, which was a 21 page article in defense of
higher pay for excise officers. In the winter of 1772 he handed out 4,000 copies of the work to
members of Parliament and other citizens. Paine was fired from the excise office in spring of

Themes In Tao Te Ching
The ideas presented in the Tao Te Ching are similar to those of the Bhagavadgita in many ways.
There is an emphasis on ridding oneself of worldly desires so that one can have self control over
their own senses since Conquering yourself is true strength (Addiss, Page 33). The Tao suggests
that creating order can be good, as long as one eventually allows the creation to undergo its own
journey and not try to dictate it. Give birth and do not possess. Excel but do not rule (Addiss,
Page 10). There are numerous references about what makes a good ruler in the Tao. I do nothing
and people transform themselves. I enjoy serenity and people govern themselves (Addiss, Page 57).

Throughout his life he had forsaken his goals, for the goals of the Japanese emperor. In doing
so, he had performed acts against the prisoners that he felt were morally wrong. He had always
used his powers for the sake of the empire and the emperor. His idea of his own goodness,
though, was becoming harder and harder to hold on to (Flanagan, Page 349). This quote shows
that one can spend their whole life serving a master, but at the end of life, it is not enough to
follow the rules set by those above one, but one must feel as if they attained and followed their
own moral standards. The theme present in the Tao and the Bhagavadgita that entails forsaking
worldly possessions and desires would create a more group oriented mentality and would allow
all humans a basic standard of living. Instead of having an extreme wage gap between classes, all
people could have their necessities provided for. A world in which possessions were not as highly
valued would lead to less stealing, an ideal presented in the Bhagavadgita. All these factors

The Creation, Creation And Creation In The Hebrew Bible
Throughout the history of mankind, the most common and unanswered question has been the
origin or creation of the universe. Whether it is the creation of plants or the cosmos, origin stories
and theories have been concepts at the forefront of human curiosity. In the Hebrew Bible, the origin
of mankind and the universeis not told in one story, but in two contrasting tales. Along with these
two contradicting stories come different purposes and lessons given to the reader. Both stories
center around the Lord, creator of the universe, but tell of two conflicting beginnings for the
universe. The two stories are meant to give the reader a sense of welcoming and amazement in the
Lord, and also to provide a sense of reason to humanity and its place on earth. These stories are set
in a specific order to amplify their lessons and compliment each other with their contrasting
details. The two creation stories can be found in Genesis. The first story involves the Lord as the
protagonist, and the creator of all things good. First, light was created, followed by the universe,
the earth, the plants, the animals, and concludes with the creation of humans. In this first story, it
takes the Lord six days to create the entire universe, including its inhabitants. On the seventh day
He (the Lord) rests (Gen 2:2 NIV). Today the seventh day is known as the Sabbath, or Sunday.
This story is poetic, and can be seen as an entrance hymn into the Hebrew Bible. It does not go into
detail as to how all things were made, but it covers the greatness in accomplishing everything in
such a short amount of time. The Lord created everything and He thought it was good, giving the
reader a joyous story to begin his or her journey into the Hebrew Bible (The Two Creation Stories).
The first story is not meant to teach a lesson, but to give beauty to the world around the reader.
The lesson provides an understanding of a seven day week, why many did not work on Sunday,
and where the universe began. The first creation story is used to put the reader in amazement of
the Lord. The reader is given an explanation as to the most common things in life, and is able to
understand the origin of everything he or she can see. The Lord can create the universe in

1.1 explain the factors that influence the wellbeing of children and young people There are many
factors that influence the wellbeing of children and young people. Some of these are evident in

A child should have the ability to have secure and nurturing attachments that offer emotional

2.2 explain how to support children and young people to identify with their own self image and
identity
Young people should have positive relationships with primary care givers, education staff and
peers as this leads to higher levels of self worth, high self esteem and a positive self image. This
positive outlook on life may lead to that person becoming more approachable and popular
individual. Structure, routine and boundaries should be put in place and positive reinforcement is
to be used, this allows an understanding of the young person s position within their society and
leads to a more settled and well balanced individual. Positive and dependable role models allow
the young person to model the behaviours of well balanced, well behaved and already resilient
individuals. Positive encouragement offered to young people may lead to higher levels of self
esteem and enables the young person to develop an optimistic attitude about learning new skills and
having the ability to keep trying when things become challenging. Regular attendance to education

Reflection About Group Presentations
We all certainly have to do group presentations during our student life. This method of study is
vital, as it is a successful alternative or addition to the traditional term paper. It can balance the
student s educational experiences by providing training in oral communication, interpersonal skills,
and analytical thinking. (King 1990, p.77). Therefore, it is necessary for us to reflect on what we
have done and learnt through grouppresentations. In this essay, I would have a look back at what I
experienced and learnt from the BCM110 group assignment.
Our assignment was to work together and do research on a media issue that we studied in the
lectures. After four weeks, we had to give a class presentation on what we had researched. Our ...

However, our main issue is Groupthink . Groupthink is defined as the pressure to conform
within a group interfering with objective analysis of a problem and causes poor group decision
making. (Dwyer 2013, p.221). There was lack of discussion regarding new ideas in our team. No
contradictions were often made, and we always reached agreement very quickly because we all
seemed want to avoid conflict. For instance, when a member said Powerpoint was simple and time
saving than other presentation methods, we all quickly agreed to choose Powerpoint without no
further arguments. As a result, our presentation seemed quite boring compared with other groups
who created a play. To avoid Groupthink , we can apply the brainstoriming strategy to encourage
creativity and diversity of ideas. We should write up all the ideas and generate possible solutions,
eliminate duplicate ideas to find the most effective solutions.
Regarding my individual performance, I was a responsible member and always actively listened
to other members ideas to give constructive feedback. I focused on what other members said and
encourage them to express their viewpoint. For example, when we discussed on fandoms, I
wanted to talk about Monsters the fanclub of Lady Gaga while Teskana preferred the example of
One Direction. However, I listened to the reasons Tes gave, and finally agreed that One Direction

What Role Does Fiber Evidence Play In The Case Of Wayne...
Wayne Williams was suspected of murdering more than twenty young, African American youths
in Atlanta, Georgia from 1979 1981. During an eight week trial, fiber evidence played a very big
role in the case against Wayne Williams in 1981. The District Attorney s office in Fulton County
Georgia used fiber debris that was found on the bodies of the deceased and traced them back to
Wayne Williams; the debris came from belongings of Williams daily surroundings (automobile and
home). During the trial, fiber evidence was used against Williams in connection with twelve of the
victims and out of those twelve, hair and fiber evidence matched those of eleven victims
(Saferstein, 2011). In July of 1979 the first two victims were males, they were

Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Health
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health The permanent impact of colonisation still has an
indisputable connection with the current health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
(ATSI) people. Poverty and powerlessness are social disadvantages amongst ATSI people which are
related to dispossession, reflected through measures of education, employment, income and
incarceration. Before 1788, indigenous Australians did not suffer from diseases such as
cardiovascular disease, smallpox, measles or influenza. All of this changed with the arrival of the

disruption. These issues continuously impact the health outcomes and prospects for ATSI... Show

The average ATSI person s disposable income is only 70% of the average non Indigenous
Australians. This gap is even wider in rural, remote parts of Australia; for example, in Cape York
the estimated weekly income for a ATSI person was $394 in comparison to a non Indigenous
Australians weekly disposable income of $896. Living in remote areas makes this even more of a
struggle as there are fewer employment opportunities, higher costs of goods and services, poor
education and poor infrastructure. Therefore, if ATSI people living in remote areas are already
living on a tight budget this makes it extremely difficult for them to afford suitable healthcare. To
overcome this issue, costs would have to be either kept very low or have complete government
funding to avoid a lack of expression of interest. With enough time and funding spent in this system,
it could potentially have an extremely positive impact on the health of Indigenous Australians living

The Crucible Reverend Hale Essay
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, witchcraft is arising in Salem, Massachusetts and Reverend John
Hale is the one at fault. Reverend Hale is a spiritual doctor who was chosen to come to salem to
investigate what was going on. Numerous people were being accused of their involvement in
witchcraft and were put to trial. Some town people confessed but some had nothing to confess,
leading them to be hung or stoned to death. There are many justifications why the events in Salem
occurred and the author brings them to the reader s attention, more than once. He shows them
through many flaws. Reverend Hale is foolish, headstrong, and his self righteousness make him the
one at blame for the Salem witch trials.
Reverend hale s strong willed personality suddenly backfired, making him not trustworthy to the
the court members and people of Salem. Hale contemplated a lot and spent more time on his
studies. He stated that, the people he had named as witches, were not witches. Because he
changed his mind so often, and went back on his word, the jury cannot trust him which made
anything he said pointless. He quits the court when he says I denounce these proceedings I quit
this court. (Miller). Since Hale was so hard headed, it took him awhile to realize the extent of the
witch trials was extreme and that it was not active in the town of salem. It was a mixture of
extreme ignorance, pure cruelty to banish the unwanted people of the town. As Elizabeth was
signing john s death warrant, Hale was watching. Excellency it is a natural lie to tell, I beg you,

Tough Drinking Bar
While tending bar can be an interesting job with clientele of all walks of life that can make for a
very exciting shift, it s also one that s quite a bit more difficult than it looks when on the other

skills, and the ability to be firm in decisions and not easily be swayed or talked out of them are
necessary in this position, in addition to possessing observational skills.
It is necessary to posses judgment skills in order to make decisions on who to serve, how much,

Each year, the media s influence on our lives and opinions grows and strengthens. Gone are the
days when the media solely existed to inform its audience of current events. Now, the media s

of children under the age of five, taking more than 1.1 million lives of boys and girls annually

S. pneumoniae is capnophilic, preferring atmospheres of 5 10% carbon dioxide. Streptococcus
pneumoniae can be distinguished from other streptococci, owing to the fact that it is catalase

autolytic property, which consequently lead to cell lysis); it is О± haemolytic (it can be easily
identified on agar plates, due to greenish discoloration of blood agar due to the production of
pneumolysin) (Balakrishnan, 2006).
S. pneumoniae has some distinct virulence factors, which are proteins/enzymes that are expressed
on the surface of gram positive organisms. They are also the main contributors to the pathogenic
character of the bacterium and its survival against the host defense mechanisms. According to Poll

genes responsible for invasion, some heavy metal transporters, evasion the immune system of the

The Critique Of POTUS By Nanny Green
The critique for POTUS by Nanny Green is not fair because the president does not make all of

is shared across three branches, not just the president. We don t pay high taxes because the
president wants us to. We pay taxes so we can be provided services such as healthcare, schooling,
parks, military, transportation, etc. If anything, the congress is the one who collects the taxes, not
the president. Also, the president is not the one who declares war. That is also the congress.

Bryant s poem Thanatopsis , he does not mention eternal life or anything religious, but speaks about
death. He tells his readers that death is a natural thing and they should not worry about it. William
Cullen Bryant, in his poem Thanatopsis, portrays a comforting view of death. Throughout the poem,
Bryant encourages his readers by explaining that in death they are not alone, that death, like life, is

Bryant explains that death, like life, is a part of nature, which was a loved and cherished aspect
of the nineteenth century. In the period of Romanticism, nature was an important ideal; it was
viewed as the source for everything. In Thanatopsis , Bryant uses nature as a comfort zone,
saying that when one dies, they will become a part of nature. He says that the bodies will be
used to nurture the earth. Bryant also mentions that we once were made as a part of nature and
that people will die as a part of it as well. He states: ...and lost each human trace, surrending up
thine individual being shalt thou go to mix forever with the elements. Bryant is saying that
bodies will decay and eventually become one with the earth and nature. Along with becoming a
part of nature, Bryant explains that the deceased people will be with some of the finest people
who walked the earth. In order to make his readers feel ultimately comfortable, Bryant also says
that when everyone dies, they will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. By the
expression finest people , Bryant means all the important figures and contributors in history. He
says that people will be resting in the same place as these figures are: in the earth. He uses this to

The Last Of The Mohicans Analysis
The book, The Last of the Mohicans, is a very deep book. There are many genres one could label
it as, but in some opinions, including my own, the most fitting one is adventure. There are a few
reasons for this, one being that the majority of the book is adventure. And there is only a little bit
of the other genres while adventure is the most fitting one. If one were to look up adventure genre,
the would find that most of the book identifies under that category. So if one asked what genre this
book was many would say adventure.
The last of the Mohicans unequivocally has a lot of adventure in it. In one of the first chapters,
the readers are introduced to an Indian who was posing as a guide for white men. When the crew
ran into Hawk eye and the Mohicans, Hawk eye quickly informed them that their guide was going
to lead them straight into an ambush. They tried to kill the guide, but he managed to get away.
Hawk eye knew that immediately after the Indian returned to his tribe the tribe would start hunting
down the new crew. They had to flew the area and find a hiding spot. All of this was in the earlier
chapters of the book and the adventure grows as time goes on. ... Show more content on

This story has a lot of action, the charters are constantly trying to get away from the Indians or

makes it hard to anticipate what is going to happen next. There is no doubt that this novel is of the
adventure genre.
If one were to ask what genre this book would be, one would think that many people would say
adventure. This is because most of the book is adventure. The reader had barely opened the book
before Hawk eye and the Mohicans tried to capture Magua. And there is a lot of adventure while
there is only a little bit of the other genres. If one was to look up the Adventure genre they would

The Importance Of Technology On The World
Life We Once Knew
Technology has improved drastically over the years. People can t imagine living a day to day life
without technology. No one can walk down a sidewalk without having to see someone on their

technology have evolved. In The Limits of Friendship, by Maria Konnikova reminds us how the

Technology has changed our minds and transformed how we communicate with people because

John Maxwell Coetzee s novel showed that Lucy s rape was not a gendered crime, instead, was

understand language and are able to communicate with words, actions actually define the rules
teachers try to practice. For example, when a preschooler is asked to put toys away slowly rather
than throwing them, it may be necessary for a teacher or educator to work with the child hand
over hand to show how to do it (29). Clearly, what children experience with their senses, such as
what the see, feel, hear and touch, determines how they think the world around them really is. In

Here are some essential grooming tips for the Teddy Guinea Pigs
Bathing: Teddy guinea pigs skin is naturally dry. They do not need many baths. In fact, many
teddy guinea pigs never bathed at all. Nevertheless, these guinea pigs tend to get dirty their

Advice For Young Artists By Patti Smith

Patti Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois, but was raised in New Jersey. She currently resides in
New York City, which is also where she made her name working as a musician and artist. In the
video titled 8 Artists Advice to the Young she articulates that young artists should not concern
themselves with money. She, instead, believes that they should focus on their work and their
name, which will then translate into success. This advice appeals to me in all facets of life. If I
focus on working hard, success will just be a by product of that hard work. Patti Smith has
seemingly taken her own advice as she has been working on her craft, whether music, poetry, or
visual arts, for nearly 45 years ( Patti Smith ). Anyone who devotes nearly half a decade into their
artwork embodies focus. Furthermore, as Patti Smith expressed, this focus on one s work will
translate into success, and for Patti Smith it has. The evaluation of success is subjective; however,
it appears that Patti Smith has achieved success in all forms. Financially, her net worth is currently
valued at $15 million ( Patti Smith Net Worth ). While critically, she was named one of Rolling
Stone magazine s 100 greatest artists (100 Greatest Artists). Moreover, if success is measured with
the legacy one leaves, it is important to note that Patti Smith serves as an inspiration to numerous
musicians. Seeing Patti Smith achieve this level of success while following her own advice,

The First battle began in 1754 when George Washington launched a surprise attack on the French.

second thought about a monitor s appearance or how a monitor worked in the first place. After
reading through various books and articles, I have now obtained a different outlook on the
subject; what I once saw as a simple desktop monitor, I now see as a magnificent invention
people often overlook. From cathode ray tubes (CRT s) to organic light emitting diodes (OLED
s), the modern monitor has undergone many technological innovations to reach its current status
( History of Monitor Displays ). As a result of the monitor s rapid success, the average American
household is now home to a wide variety of monitors: laptop monitors, desktop monitors, and
several television monitors. How did it all begin? The very first monitor consisted only of
lightbulbs that blinked when information was being transferred from a computer. This
technology allowed the scientist to depict information being read by a computer (Edwards 2).
Digital displays didn t make their first appearance till the 1920s; using the cathode ray
technology pioneered by Sir William Crooke in 1878, Kenjiro Takayamagi made images appear
on a screen, known as the first black and white television. The development of CVTs as computer
monitors didn t happen till color television was developed after World War II. People wanted to use

Causes Of Capulet In Romeo And Juliet
In the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet, Capulet is the most at fault for the events that
occurred, which then lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. To begin, the Capulets and the
Montagues have been in a feud for the longest of time and they do not know exactly why they
hate each other. In the Prologue of Romeo and Juliet, it talks about how the two families have
been in a grudge against each other since ancient history and it is hard for the two to tell why they
dislike each other. From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,/Where civil blood makes civil hands
unclean. Chorus (1. Prologue. 3 4) There is another example about the two families feuding when
the Prince stated about there fighting and how it corrupted Verona for example. By thee, old
Capulet, and Montague,/Have thrice disturbed the quiet of our streets/ And made Verona s ancient
citizens. Prince (1.1.98 100) Therefore since the two families are in conflict for a long time this
had a major effect on Romeo and Juliet s relationship. For, instance when the two met each other,
their marriageand relationship was a secret from their families because they maybe assumed that
their families would take their relationships away if they told them.Second, Capulet assumed that
Paris would be the best fit for Juliet to marry, she later then found out about this, and Capulet
became furious about how she did not want to marry this man. So, Capulet decided that it would
best that if she was not willing to marry this man, that

The Importance Of The Somme On The Home Front
In 1916, the battle of the Somme began, intending to end the war for the allies. It pitted an
unexperienced British army, against a professional German one. It was also, however significant in
many ways. Two of the main areas where the battle of the Somme was significant were in its
military value, and the reactions it caused, on the home front. The battle of the Somme, intended to
end the war that year, had ambitious objectives, it was significant for failing to achieve almost
all of these. One of these was Beaumont Hamel, a fortified village behind the German lines. The
Battle plan called for the village to be taken on the first day. The fact that the village was not
taken until the very end of the battle on the 13th of November, illustrates how much the plan
failed. Demonstrating the level to which the plan failed Private Anthony Stacey reports that this
was a death trap for our boys as the enemy just set the sights of their machine guns on the gaps in
the barbed wire and fired . Another objective, Serre, was not taken at all. In fact, the British staff
were so unaware of modern weapons, that they had cavalry ready to attack after the infantry broke
through. This is significant as it shows how inexperienced the British armywas when it came to
trench warfare. Had the staff understood the trench tactics better, they would not have... Show more

troops in the army at once. For example, at Accrington, where during one week 584 of 720 men

different battalions, so that losses to a village or town were spread

The Columbian Exchange And The Columbian Exchange
In 1492, one of the most important exchanges in our history began. At that time, there was a
need for spices and tradable goods and supplies. There were some people who just wanted a
direct route to the trade supply in Asia, and there were others who wanted wealth or to spread the
word of God. Christopher Columbus believed that the world was in fact round, but he was
unaware the actual size of the planet. He sailed west in search of the East Indies, however he
reached the CaribbeanIslands of the Americas instead. By this accidental encounter with the foreign
islands and people, Christopher started the Columbus exchange. The exchange was widespread
throughout Europe, Africa and the Americas around the 15th and 16th centuries. In the trade, many
things were introduced to all three continents. Examples of those things were ideas, people, plants,
animals, technology, etc. The exchange affected the Old World and the New World
very differently.
Europe had definitely benefited the most, while others weren t quite so lucky.
Europe had been affected by the Columbian Exchange greatly. They had gained so much from it.
Potatoes, maize (corn), pumpkins, turkey, vanilla, cocoa and many other foods were introduced to
Europe through the exchange. With these new foods, the europeans diets improved tremendously.
Their better diets helped make them healthier than before which ultimately increased their lifespan
and caused less infant deaths. Not only did their lifespans

Negative Publicity Rains Upon AAMC Hired in 1998, Ephonia M. Green was hired to work at
Association of American Medical College as an administrative assistant employee. Ms. Green s
yearly salary earned her approximately $56,000 a year however she is charged with stealing
more than $5 million from AAMC over a period of 12 years until the fraud was discovered in
July 2013. Ms. Green s access to submitting invoices for payments through AAMC allowed her to
create a scheme that would catapult her well over her yearly salary. Ms. Green created company
names that were similar to legitimate vendors of AAMC in which she then registered those trade
names with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation. She then created fictitious
invoices for those companies as actual vendors of AAMC. Using the names that she created, she
then opened bank accounts at several local banks. These financial institutions would serve as
personal businesses used to receive payment in which she would personally profit from. As an
employee of AAMC, Ms. Green reviewed the false invoices and signed off on them which indicated
to the accounting department those invoices were approved for payment. Ms. Green also advised
with each invoice that the checks generated to pay the invoice, should be returned directly to her
versus mailing them out to the fictitious vendor. The accounting department had no way of
knowing the vendors

Long Beach Air Pollution
The effect on the environment, not just shipping volume, should always be considered when,
when determining the effectiveness of a port. The Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long
Beach as a complex are ranked the 10th biggest port in the world by volume, and are the 9th
busiest port in the world. This high level of traffic leads to a large amount of emissions from
boats, trucks, and trains. The high emissions had a major impact on the local air quality. In 2006,
the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan was passed to combat the poor air quality. Notably,
this strategy being produced for a global seaport was the most comprehensive reducing health risk
and cutting air pollutionto a minimum. Within five years of passing the Action Plan,... Show more

Having a port in full functionality with cargo ships, oil tankers, trucks, and port traffic creates an
environment of many harmful emissions. The main purpose of the act that was established between
both ports to fulfill a new method to reduce emissions and through that came these five points that
the act had to keep in mind before coming a final solution. Resiliency the ability to maintain
business continuity during a power outage and resume operations after a catastrophic event.
Availability access to sources of electricity necessary for present and future power demands of port
operations through generation, transmission, and distribution. Reliability would be the high quality
availability of consistent electricity meeting the demand peaks that were predicted of high demand.
Efficiency Would see reductions in energy demand and use technologies that maximize operational
productivity being cost effective. Finally, the sustainability part where the economic, social, and
environmental benefits are kept to a minimum coming from natural resources integrating the
renewable power of energy management practices. In 2016, the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of
Long Beach both updated their CAAP document. In the discussion, the ports plans for expanding

Government Intervention Essay
1.
When issues arise, governments are the ones that intervene into the market to correct market
failures; these include issues such as climate change. In order to correct these issues government
use methods such as inequality, externalities and public goods. This restores efficiency as well
as increasing the economic well being of society. The environment is accessible by every
individual as it is non excludable. Thus, meaning that no one can be prohibited from using it and
one person s use diminishes another person s use of it. Since it is a common resource accessible
to everyone, it can easily be overused, this is when a government should intervene in order to
restore the balance. There are many ways in which governments can help aid the climate issue, one
being by controlling prices in the markets (directly) or by taxing and subsidising demand and
supply (indirectly). But, obviously climate change could not be aided through something as simple
as changing the price, so that means that the intervention would be seen as indirect because there is
no market for climate change. It will be difficult for the government to measure social costs
(externality) of climate change. These exist when the production or consumption of a good has a
positive or negative side effect on third parties that are not accounted for in the price of the good.
Manufacturing companies emit carbon pollution during the production process that increases the
contamination in the environment. In order to

  • 2. Ethics At A Young Age When I think of Ethics, I think of trying to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and morally doing the right thing when it comes to making decisions. Ethics occurs throughout all different parts of our everyday lives. We begin to learn ethics at a young age and continue to learn it as we get older, according to our jobs, or our places in life. For instance, we learned that it is wrong to take someone s toy away, or to hurt someone when we were younger. However, once we became older, we learned it is bad to distort information to make oneself look good. For example, in concept analysis 4 3, Brown wants to raise the depreciation expense of the company s machines so when they are sold at a loss the company does not look bad (Kieso,... Although there is a slight distinction between what is ethical and what is not, there is a not a written rule book on ethics. Ethics is important in the Accounting Profession just as much as it is important in any other profession. When in the accounting profession, we will be faced with decisions on a daily basis that we will have to decide if they are ethical or not. For instance, one CEO, Kenseth, is nervous about large stockholders who have been vocal about her lately and she considers buying them out by purchasing their shares, so she can eliminate the competition and maintain her leadership as CEO (Kieso, Weygandt, Warfield, Pg. 871). She has to decide if she should buy them out or not. If she bought them out, that would be unethical because she is using inside information and her authority to benefit herself. She should keep in mind what is good for the company as a whole, and not just what is good for herself. Additionally, depending on the company, the more particular they are, the harder it is on the Accountants to make ethical decisions. They are constantly worrying about Am I presenting this information in a good or bad way , or Is this right or wrong (Kieso, Weygandt, Warfield, Pg. 21). For instance, in the case where Weller wants to implement a rule that will present the financial conditions in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chapter four begins with the charters heading into the desert with minimal food and supplies. Throughout the trip many men fall ill and pass away along with their horses. The characters encounter numerous obstacles with wolves and the desert sand. Chirp, chirp, chirp as I hear and see the lovely black birds past me. While I m running on the beach, I could see the sun cast its golden rays down upon the cloud turning them bright red, fired red. Through research into multiple companies and case studies, a distorted perception among large corporations shows a historic struggle to find a balance between profit and sustainability. However, the potential long term effects of the lack of environmental courtesy cannot be undone and therefore must be carefully engineered. Multi billion dollar automotive corporations such as Hyundai and Toyota will be discussed and studied in depth to conclude the innovative changes contributed in the automotive industryresulting in maximum efficiency in lean and green production. Additionally, while studying these companies, the overall question of whether intentional sustainable practices provide increased customer satisfaction and comfort is answered through a survey given to 100 random people. In this small sample, it was found that 33% of consumers care about green business practices in automotive production but only 8% saw an increase in value because of it. • 6. Pigafetta s Eater Mutiny In 1522, the expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan that circumnavigated the entire world reached its end. Unfortunately, most of the crew perished before the end of the expedition including Magellan. One important event during the expedition was the mutiny against Magellan. Though Magellan was not killed in the mutiny, the mutiny must still be investigated. The main problem is that only two written records exist that document the expedition. One of these records was written by Antonio Pigafetta. But is Pigafetta s account reliable? Pigafetta s account of the Eater Mutiny is fairly valid because it is mostly factual, matter of fact, and he took his chronicling seriously. One can tell if an account is true if it is corroborated by other sources. Pigafetta s account is corroborated by both Documents D and E. It can be noted that Pigafetta neglected some details about the reasoning for the mutiny out of his loyalty to Magellan, but perhaps he did not know the exact reasoning as the men planning the mutiny would have likely avoided speaking in front of him as they knew of his loyalty to Magellan, who they were planning to kill and later discredit. Furthermore, Pigafetta is said to have kept the best record of the journey in Document B. If a modern historian has said that Pigafetta s report is the best record they have, one can assume that said report is factual and therefore reliable. In the story about the boy who cried wolf, people stopped believing him because he was not serious. • 7. Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society 1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. Consequently, as evidenced by the protagonists evolution in Gift of Cochise, All the Pretty Horses, and The Martian, the foretold frontier hero defined in Turner frontier hypothesis only earns claim to the title of hero after prospering in the face of unplanned isolation and proving their worth as a rugged individual. While Angie openly embraces the tumultuous life on the frontier for the sake of her family in The Gift of Cochise, her heroism grows only after the abandonment of her husband through her steadfast resolve to stand up against the ostensibly unjust Cochise. • 11. How to Successfully Grow Peaches Although growing peaches (Prunus persica) can be a rewarding venture, they re susceptible to mold growth that, if neglected, can affect fruit development, tree growth and ultimately your success. Peaches are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 8, and identifying the cause of the mold, which might be a fungal disease or insect infestation, should be your first step to eliminating the problem. (See References 1) Brown Rot If your peaches have small, round, powdery tan spots that gradually seem to spread and get larger, and eventually, turn black, you might be dealing with brown rot. This common stone fruit disease, which starts at bloom and often affects fruit that s stuck together in clusters, is triggered by the fungus Monilinia fructicola. This fungus overwinters in the yard in uncollected infected fruit and stems, and as soon as the temperature reaches 40 degrees Fahrenheit, spores develop that are spread by wind and rain to healthy tissue. Prevention and treatment of brown rot can include removal of infected fruit and fungicide treatment before the infection occurs. (See References 2, 3 and 4) Sooty Mold When scales, aphids, and other sucking insect feed on your peaches, they secrete a sticky liquid known as honeydew. This region of brain near the base of the skull transports information to the thalamus, which controls the learning and thinking aspects of the brain. • 19. The Creation, Creation And Creation In The Hebrew Bible Throughout the history of mankind, the most common and unanswered question has been the origin or creation of the universe. Whether it is the creation of plants or the cosmos, origin stories and theories have been concepts at the forefront of human curiosity. In the Hebrew Bible, the origin of mankind and the universeis not told in one story, but in two contrasting tales. Along with these two contradicting stories come different purposes and lessons given to the reader. Both stories center around the Lord, creator of the universe, but tell of two conflicting beginnings for the universe. The two stories are meant to give the reader a sense of welcoming and amazement in the Lord, and also to provide a sense of reason to humanity and its place on earth. These stories are set in a specific order to amplify their lessons and compliment each other with their contrasting details. The two creation stories can be found in Genesis. The first story involves the Lord as the protagonist, and the creator of all things good. First, light was created, followed by the universe, the earth, the plants, the animals, and concludes with the creation of humans. In this first story, it takes the Lord six days to create the entire universe, including its inhabitants. On the seventh day He (the Lord) rests (Gen 2:2 NIV). Today the seventh day is known as the Sabbath, or Sunday. This story is poetic, and can be seen as an entrance hymn into the Hebrew Bible. It does not go into detail as to how all things were made, but it covers the greatness in accomplishing everything in such a short amount of time. The Lord created everything and He thought it was good, giving the reader a joyous story to begin his or her journey into the Hebrew Bible (The Two Creation Stories). The first story is not meant to teach a lesson, but to give beauty to the world around the reader. The lesson provides an understanding of a seven day week, why many did not work on Sunday, and where the universe began. The first creation story is used to put the reader in amazement of the Lord. The reader is given an explanation as to the most common things in life, and is able to understand the origin of everything he or she can see. The Lord can create the universe in ... This method of study is vital, as it is a successful alternative or addition to the traditional term paper. It can balance the student s educational experiences by providing training in oral communication, interpersonal skills, and analytical thinking. (King 1990, p.77). Therefore, it is necessary for us to reflect on what we have done and learnt through grouppresentations. In this essay, I would have a look back at what I experienced and learnt from the BCM110 group assignment. Our assignment was to work together and do research on a media issue that we studied in the lectures. After four weeks, we had to give a class presentation on what we had researched. Our ... Groupthink is defined as the pressure to conform within a group interfering with objective analysis of a problem and causes poor group decision making. (Dwyer 2013, p.221). There was lack of discussion regarding new ideas in our team. No contradictions were often made, and we always reached agreement very quickly because we all seemed want to avoid conflict. For instance, when a member said Powerpoint was simple and time saving than other presentation methods, we all quickly agreed to choose Powerpoint without no further arguments. As a result, our presentation seemed quite boring compared with other groups who created a play. To avoid Groupthink , we can apply the brainstoriming strategy to encourage creativity and diversity of ideas. We should write up all the ideas and generate possible solutions, eliminate duplicate ideas to find the most effective solutions. Regarding my individual performance, I was a responsible member and always actively listened to other members ideas to give constructive feedback. I focused on what other members said and encourage them to express their viewpoint. For example, when we discussed on fandoms, I wanted to talk about Monsters the fanclub of Lady Gaga while Teskana preferred the example of One Direction. During an eight week trial, fiber evidence played a very big role in the case against Wayne Williams in 1981. The District Attorney s office in Fulton County Georgia used fiber debris that was found on the bodies of the deceased and traced them back to Wayne Williams; the debris came from belongings of Williams daily surroundings (automobile and home). Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health The permanent impact of colonisation still has an indisputable connection with the current health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people. Poverty and powerlessness are social disadvantages amongst ATSI people which are related to dispossession, reflected through measures of education, employment, income and incarceration. Before 1788, indigenous Australians did not suffer from diseases such as cardiovascular disease, smallpox, measles or influenza. All of this changed with the arrival of the First Fleet, this epidemic affected the fabric of ATSI societies through depopulation and social disruption. This gap is even wider in rural, remote parts of Australia; for example, in Cape York the estimated weekly income for a ATSI person was $394 in comparison to a non Indigenous Australians weekly disposable income of $896. Living in remote areas makes this even more of a struggle as there are fewer employment opportunities, higher costs of goods and services, poor education and poor infrastructure. Therefore, if ATSI people living in remote areas are already living on a tight budget this makes it extremely difficult for them to afford suitable healthcare. • 25. The Crucible Reverend Hale Essay In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, witchcraft is arising in Salem, Massachusetts and Reverend John Hale is the one at fault. Reverend Hale is a spiritual doctor who was chosen to come to salem to investigate what was going on. Numerous people were being accused of their involvement in witchcraft and were put to trial. Some town people confessed but some had nothing to confess, leading them to be hung or stoned to death. There are many justifications why the events in Salem occurred and the author brings them to the reader s attention, more than once. He shows them through many flaws. Reverend Hale is foolish, headstrong, and his self righteousness make him the one at blame for the Salem witch trials. Reverend hale s strong willed personality suddenly backfired, making him not trustworthy to the the court members and people of Salem. Hale contemplated a lot and spent more time on his studies. He stated that, the people he had named as witches, were not witches. Because he changed his mind so often, and went back on his word, the jury cannot trust him which made anything he said pointless. He quits the court when he says I denounce these proceedings I quit this court. (Miller). Since Hale was so hard headed, it took him awhile to realize the extent of the witch trials was extreme and that it was not active in the town of salem. It was a mixture of extreme ignorance, pure cruelty to banish the unwanted people of the town. As Elizabeth was signing john s death warrant, Hale was watching. • 49. Government Intervention Essay 1. When issues arise, governments are the ones that intervene into the market to correct market failures; these include issues such as climate change. In order to correct these issues government use methods such as inequality, externalities and public goods. This restores efficiency as well as increasing the economic well being of society. The environment is accessible by every individual as it is non excludable. Thus, meaning that no one can be prohibited from using it and one person s use diminishes another person s use of it. Since it is a common resource accessible to everyone, it can easily be overused, this is when a government should intervene in order to restore the balance. There are many ways in which governments can help aid the climate issue, one being by controlling prices in the markets (directly) or by taxing and subsidising demand and supply (indirectly). But, obviously climate change could not be aided through something as simple as changing the price, so that means that the intervention would be seen as indirect because there is no market for climate change. It will be difficult for the government to measure social costs (externality) of climate change. These exist when the production or consumption of a good has a positive or negative side effect on third parties that are not accounted for in the price of the good. Manufacturing companies emit carbon pollution during the production process that increases the contamination in the environment. In order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
