The World Trade Organization And Its Predecessor The...
Over the course of its history, the World Trade Organization (and its predecessor the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) has aimed to liberalise trade throughout the globe. While
accomplishing such a task is no easy matter, the WTO has managed to successfully implement a
number of agreements over the course of 67 years towards such a goal. Recently though, the WTO
seems to have stalled in producing successful agreements. The latest round of such agreements,
dubbed the Doha Development Round, has been in development for nearly 15 years now with little
to show for it. Why is it then that the WTO, an organization that has managed to successfully agree
on eight previous rounds, been stuck for so long?
The World Trade Organizationlargely accomplishes its agenda through rounds : negotiation rounds
between all members that largely focus on specific agendas with the aim to create guidelines and
rules that promote global trade. Historically, the WTO (and the GATT) have seen eight rounds
thus far (nine if counting the current Doha round), with each producing an universally agreed on
agreement. The first round of such, taking place in 1947, is what actually brought about the GATT
and focused largely on tariff controls. The subsequent four rounds, occurring in 1949, 1951, 1956,
and 1960, each also focused on tariffs controls. Such negotiations largely took place because of the
quickly changing world playing field and as new members joined onto the GATT. It wasn t until the

The Hot August Night Inside The Echo Essay
There is the smell of cigarettes, alcohol, and sweat in the air. It is about 10 PM on a hot August
night inside the Echo in Los Angeles. People are packed inside the small music venue waiting as
band roadies set up the stage with speakers, microphones, electric guitars, electric bass guitars,
and a drum set. Groups of black clothed or stud, patch, and chain laden people are scattered
about; an eager, almost impatient energy dominates the venue s atmosphere. There is a thumbs
up exchange between venue crew members and the lights go off, leaving only bright and
colorful stage lights shining on the empty stage. The audience erupts with cheers as four middle
aged men walk on stage. They get in their places and moments later, fast paced, messy, distortion
heavy music blasts from the stage and speakers. The singer growls, I wanna kick in the radio/ I
wanna bomb the record store/ I say, destroy all music! The audience goes wild and a large circle
pit immediately forms in the middle of the venue. Youths and adults alike are running around,
slamming into, and aggressively pushing each other in the circle pit. Some people climb on stage
and dive into the crowd. All negativity, stress, obligations, and personal afflictions of the people
inside the Echo fly out its doors. The band performing was Los Angeles punk rockband the Weirdos.
The audience consisted of punk fans.
The punk music genre, subculture, and style is often times ignored, ridiculed, or portrayed as a fad

Lethal Injection Case
Lethal injections have been around for many years with the same basic idea and procedure. Lethal
injection uses three drugs, a fast acting barbiturate that sedates the inmate and the drug
Tubocurarine that paralyzes the inmate, and finally potassium chloride is used to stop his heart.
These methods have been a controversial issue for many reasons. People that supports lethal
injection believes that it is more humane method of execution than any other because it cause little
or no pain. It also argued that it is less expensive than detaining or placing someone in jail for life.

injection is unconstitutional because the procedure causes cruel and unusual punishment which is
prohibited by Eight Amendment of the U.S Constitution. Baze argued that lethal injection
procedure violates his Eight Amendment right because it is likely to cause him substantial pain and

Supreme Court made a decision rejection Baze case. The court ruled that the state lethal injection
procedure did not violate constitutional right and did not present substantial risk of pain during

but the court also ruled that Kentucky s three drug protocol for carrying out lethal injections does
not amount to cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment. Seven Justices wrote

Saber The Hero s Journey
In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it
means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search
to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the
traditional sense. While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to
be a typical herobecause of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional
heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero.
According to Joseph Cambell s Hero s Journey, there is a standard set of actions that transpires in
multiple stories, particularly in heroic ones. This sequence of actions guides ... Show more content

This idea is supported in The Search, by how Elham serves as both a foil to Saber s character
and a symbol of improvement for him. To clarify, up until this point it is clear that Saber (in his
unheroic like fashion) is mainly relying on others to complete his search. In Cairo, he finally
places an advertisement for his father, though in perspective, it means the success of his search
practically depends on his father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no
further attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. In contrast,
Elham cultivates her own future, acquiring a higher education while working as a clerk, a
noteworthy feat for a woman in her times. Saber, the supposed hero, however is unwilling to
accommodate for a more reliable and realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work
he responds, any work I do must come through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later
when she actually offers to find him possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s nothing I
know how to do (407). Though the reader may wish Saber to choose Elham, thus ultimately
developing his character and improving his odds, he remains

The Psychological Side Of The Injury
Personal
It is widely an accepted belief that sports are ninety percent mental and ten percent physical so
when an injury occurs it is just as equal in importance to be aware of the psychological side of the
injury as well as the physical injury. Athletes around the world know not only the physical pain, but
the emotional toll injury places on a person who is sought after to perform their best day in and
day out. Small injuries that lower one s top performance ability, big injuries that force cease of
play for any amount of time, as well as chronic injuries that consistently keep coming back and
influence performance ability for a long time all effect people mentally negatively; some rise
above and some do not. Staying mentally strong during a time of injury is difficult and just as in
any difficult situation people respond differently. Knowing the ways that are typical in response to
an injury and being able to apply positive traits can provide for a much healthier, better, and in
some cases faster recovery.
I have always been prone to injury and had to deal with them consistently while growing up
playing sports. My dad has likewise always been my coach and it has been instilled in me since I
was young that the tough play through the pain. Playing through pain puts your mental toughness
on display. My psychological response to injuries when I was younger was looking for someone to
console me, but my dad never did. He always said to go back out there and try to play

Azolla
1.What is the geographic distribution and habitat of Azolla? (1 pt.)
The habitat of Azolla is any climate that is warm, temperate or tropical regions. Azolla cannot
survive in areas that have long freezes or arid temperatures. This means that Azolla can be found on
any continent that has warm freshwater ponds, ditches, slow rivers or lakes. Azolla can be found
on every continent except for Antarctica. (1)
2.What is unique about this fern? Why is it called Azolla Superorganism ? (2 pts)
Azolla is a superorganism because it has a symbiotic relationship with cyanobacteria. These two
organisms are separate beings, but when the Azolla reproduces it passes that bacteria onto it s
offspring allowing the offspring to have the benefits of the symbiotic relationship. These two
organisms co evolved together over time and have not been found separate in over 100 million
years. (2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over time, a cavity in the leaf developed that houses and protects the bacteria in a space without
oxygen. The anabaena is then able to help the plant with nitrogen fixation. This cavity in the leaf
also allows for cyanobacteria to be passed down through reproduction. (2)
3.What are current practical uses of Azolla? (1 pt)
The current uses of Azolla include livestock feed and biofertilizer. (3)
4.How do scientists propose to use Azolla in new technologies to help the environment? (2 pts)
Scientist believe that Azolla could help lower greenhouse CO2. This plant s growth in freshwater
without the need for soil allows the plant to use the CO2 without displacing land. The land that is
not used by Azolla because of it s ability to grow in freshwater can then be used to grow crops or
allow more rain forests to be replanted. (4)

AM And MO Position At Family Dollar Job Analysis
Human Resource (HR) managers work with top managers in order to create jobs and develop
high performing workforces. HR managers design jobs that fulfill the needs of the business and
align with organizational goals. However, before jobs are created, HR managers need to
understand what tasks and duties are required. The process of identifying the tasks and duties
needed for a job is referred to as Job Analysis(Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2014). A job
analysis is important because it assists managers with recruiting, performance management,
compensation, and ensuring equal treatment (Stewart Brown, 2012). Ultimately, the information

Questions On Vimy Ridge
1.(a) What, according to Source A, were the problems Germans had faced by the Canadian Army
operating the artillery? [3 marks]
Canadian troops were tasked to capture the important Vimy Ridge. The Canadian Army bombarded
the German positions with countless artilleries and it became a week of suffering for the Germans.
This artillery bombardment had helped Canada develop a successful way to defeat Germany. As a
result, Germans faced devastating effects, due to the constant firing by the Canadians. The German
soldiers had little chance to succeed against the artillery as transportation and communications were
destroyed, stopping supplies such as food, medication etc., ammunition and new troops from
reaching the front line because of the endless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus of the painting is based on the two soldiers passing the shell to each other and then into
to the artillery to shoot against the German army. The gesture of working together in harsh
realities carries the message of unity and self sacrifice for the war. One soldier does not have his
uniform on meaning no protective gear that characterizes unselfishness in the center of a great
battle. Furthermore, there is a soldier, who has an injury on his hand, yet still continuing to fight.
The wound shows contribution in the face of danger and heroism marked by the bandaged arm on
his return to the conflict. It sets an example of selflessness and bravery and the artist shows that in
war, sacrifice can be represented by their schedule of duty.

High-Stakes Testing, the Standardized Classroom, and the...
The world s greatest problems do not result from people being unable to read and write. They
result from people in the world from different cultures, races, religions, and nations being unable to
get along and to work together to solve the world s problems. These statements by James A. Banks
have made a profound impact on my view towards multicultural educationand the nation s current
trend of standardization and high stakes testing. Scholarly research shows that the emphasis placed
on testing and standards, mandated by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, is causing teachers
to focus entirely on basic skills in reading, writing, and math (Banks Banks, 2010). This focus on
basic skills is taking much needed time and attention away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus, when AYP is based on academic achievement levels, the subgroup rules create negative
unintended consequences for the students they were designed to help, by disproportionately
subjecting racially diverse schools to sanctions under NCLB. This consequence also threatens to
increase the growing dropout and push out rates for students in these sub groups (Darling
Hammond, 2007).
This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students in non
minority groups as well. When there is no time for focus on skills that students need to participate
in social change, these students will not learn to question practices within society or to work with
other students from all different groups and backgrounds in order to effect change. Classes in
schools which may contribute to multicultural education, such as social studies and foreign
language, are being cut completely in order to spend more time on reading and math (Au, 2009).
According to Au (2009), since multi cultural anti racist perspectives and content are not deemed
legitimate by the high stakes tests and classroom standards, the end result is that multicultural, anti
racist content and perspectives and not being included in the instruction time or curriculum. This
reinforces the notion for white students that they are the dominant group in society, and works
against the goals of multicultural education.

Introduction. Historically Black Colleges And Universities
Introduction
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) are experiencing low retention rates with
first generation college students. The students are not graduating within a four to six year
enrollment period, and or are not returning after their freshmen year. As the American workforce
looks to colleges and universities to fulfill the workforce pipeline with educated diverse workers,
HBCUs are in the spotlight to produce qualified minority graduates. Moreover, HBCU s are
looking to refine their methods of inclusion and buy in, this will in turn manifest a higher level of
retention amongst first generation college students.

HBCUs were originally created to educate and uplift African Americans to the same levels of
success and their other racial counterparts. The institutions were created to afford all African
American students, the same chance and opportunities to reach academic and social success. They
were created in times within history, when African Americans could not enroll in traditionally white
post secondary institutions. Currently, there are 105 diverse HBCUs (insert source for
information). Each institution has distinct missions and rich legacies. They vary in size,
enrollment, financial creditability and stability, curriculum and degree programming as well as,
operational effectiveness (Hibel, n.d.). HBCUs serve some students who would not normally be
accepted into other institutions because of their academic and socio economic status.
Higher education in America is facing many challenges, i.e., low retention, low graduation rates and
less funding. Postsecondary institutions are scrambling to remain a competitive entity within
society. In order to do so, students must remain in school (Talbert, 2012). The Office of the White

Narcissism Paper
Narcissism Narcissism is the tendency to be arrogant, have a grandiose sense of self importance,
require excessive admiration and have a sense of entitlement (Robbins Judge, 2009). It is the type
of personality that doesn t fit well for a manager or someone in a leadership position. Supervisors,
when educating and training their employees, need to possess a degree of humility during
communication with them. The important component is people skills: employees must not only
respect their supervisors, but they must also feel that they are respected by their bosses. If ever a
manager becomes too enamored with himself, employees can sense this arrogance and become
more apathetic to the idea of respecting the supervisor s authority. In other... Show more content on

Autonomy is the degree to which a job provides substantial freedom and discretion to the
individual in scheduling the work and in determining the procedures to be used in carrying it out
(Robbins Judge, 2009). For organizations that specialize in work groups and teams, the component
of autonomy is necessary in order to achieve productivity and the organization s goals. Employees
need to feel like they have flexibility in their scheduling and how their work processes. Once an
employee has this ability, they become more cooperative in working with others. The perception,
that the employee s time is just as valuable as the organization s goals, gives the employee the
perceived organizational support thereby increasing their satisfaction and productivity on the job.
When a supervisor shows narcissism, this tells the employees that their concerns about how they
do work and when they work will take a back seat to the wishes of the supervisor. The supervisor
becomes more in control of every facet of the organization, which destroys any autonomy the
employee once possessed. The worker, losing autonomy, becomes less satisfied, less productive,
and loses out on developing new skills. The worker, if part of a group, drags down the rest of the
team s productivity. The narcissistic personality of the supervisor has a negative effect on the
organization; his selfish attitude permeates through the organization causing drops in productivity.
Research reveals that it might be better to keep all the conscientious, covenantal people on the same
team separate from low conscientious members to remove inequity and improve satisfaction

Analyzing Two Forms Of Media
Analysing Two Forms of Media
First impressions are extremely vital. We form an opinion within the first 30 seconds of meeting
someone and that plays a vital role in the relationships formed. Similarly with films, the audiences
usually identifies with the genre within a few minutes of the screening. With that in mind, this
analysis will focus upon decoding the opening sequence of two contrasting films in order to
understand its tone and genre. In this case, the opening sequence is defined as the point until which
the title is established, this is usually within the first 120 to 180 seconds of the film. I have chosen to
compare the mise en scГЁne of a modern day romantic comedy, What If (Michael Dowse, 2014)
versus the classic horror film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This establishes the tone of the film as energetic and gives the audience the impression that the
narrative and characters are light hearted. Furthermore, the movie begins at night which suggests
a sense of romance, which is a central theme of the film. However, in The Shining , the camera
follows a single yellow car through a changing scenery of mountains and landscapes. From the
wideness of the shots, we see the environment as desolated and lonely. The audience is aware that
there is no sign of life apart from the driver of the car. This hints that isolation will be an important
theme of the film. It also establishes the driver as the central character of the film. Thomas
Caldwell describes framing as a way of withholding information from the audience (Caldwell,
2005). Although conversely, it is also a way of including an image or object within a frame to
convey a specific meaning. In What If shots of the Toronto skyline are frequently shown throughout
the film, usually in the background or out of focus, to reinforce the idea established in the
beginning that the city is another character in the film. Similarly, In The Shining the hotel is where
the entire narrative unfolds. Hence, it is imperative to focus on the location at the beginning of the
film itself.
The opening scene of What If is set at night but this is not to imply that the lighting is or dark but
that it is sultry, playful and romantic. The accompanying music which

The Union Of The European Union
Brexiters are desperate and angry with everything and everyone that suggests that the British
people should vote to remain in the European Union in the 23 June 2016 referendum. The recent
victim of their desperation and ire has been no less a personage than the US President Barrack
Obama himself. President Obama was in London recently to wish the Queen her happy 90th
birthday and help Prime Minister David Cameron win the referendum in which the British
people will vote whether they want to remain in the EU or leave. The Leave campaigners have
sought to create a bubble that Britain outside the EU will be a prosperous paradise at the center
of the universe, free from pesky European countries. But Obama punctured their bubble by
announcing that Britain outside the EU will be less powerful, less secure, and less prosperous,
and it will have to wait for five to 10 years to sign a trade agreement with the United States. That
was shattering for the Leave campaign. Boris Johnson, the leader of the Leave campaign and
mayor of London, was so angry that he descended into the invective. He said President Obama had

Biography of Samuel F.B. Morse Essay
Samuel F. B. Morse was one of the greatest inventors of the 19th century; he was the invention of
the singled wire telegraph machine that influenced the Industrial Revolution in America and the
Morse code led way to many future innovations. Samuel Morse was not just an inventor; he was
also a painter that did works such as The Chapel of the Virgin at Subiaco and The Gallery of the
Louvre 1831 1833 to portraits of famous politicians such as John Adams. Samuel F. B. Morse was
born in Charleston, Massachusetts on April 17, 1791. He was the son of a geographer and pastor
Jedidiah Morse and Elizabeth Ann Finley Breese. Samuel Morris was originally interested in
painting; his paintings usually put in more detail to the austere facial... Show more content on

Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph
machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to
the loss of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York
University, that helped improved Morse s design that used superior batteries and electromagnets
that enabled it to transfer currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse
had perfected his telegraph; it was able to send signals over great distances. Although his
Journey wasn t over, he now had to send his work to Washington where he awaited to be
approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another
one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session, which was March 3, 1843, he spent the
whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber, anxiously watching the progress of the
passing of the various bills (Morse) to watch the bill get passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set
up the very first telegraph machine from Washington to Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was
made from household instruments that consisted of an old picture or canvas frame fastened to a
table; the wheels of an old wooden clock [...] and a short circuit of a wire, embracing the helices of
the electro magnet connected with the positive and negative poles of the battery and terminating
the mercury cups (Morse). His apparatus was so crude

Woods Descriptive Writing
The woods were inexplicably silent and mysterious, and the feeling was accentuated by the
faint, gray light diffused by the cloud canopy above. The wet looking blacks and browns of the
tree trunks and the occasional spot of muted rusty red or weak green from old fallen leaves
stood out sharply against the purity of the freshly fallen snow cover. Only a single set of
hoofprints could be seen, off on a nearly obliterated woodland trail. They were already beginning
to be covered by the flakes falling from the tired gray sky as Emma brought Birdie, the chestnut
mare, to a halt at the edge of the foul road. This is terribly sloppy going, she said aloud, with a
deprecating glance at her mud spotted dress. Probably I ought to use the forest... Show more content

This is supposed to be a short cut! Am I...am I even on the path? The snow was deeper here and
covered over a treacherous tangle of matted fallen overgrowth and hidden dips in the trail. In
summer, the worst parts of the path were apparent and could be easily avoided, but with a full
blanket of snow, it was ten times more difficult to navigate and ten times more dangerous. Then
it happened. In a fever of nervousness, while looking behind her for the elusive follower, Emma
simultaneously jerked back on the reins and urged her horse forward with her legs. Birdie half
reared, tripped, then blindly bolted straight into a thicket. The reins snapped out of Emma s hands
and one of her feet slipped out of the stirrup. In a last desperate effort, Emma grasped for the reins,
but they flew over Birdie s head. The thoroughly panicked horse crashed right through the thicket
and galloped down the path. Already fairly unseated by Birdie s momentum, when her horse
stumbled on a hidden branch, Emma could no longer keep in the saddle. There was a sickening
crash as Birdie hit the ground. Emma flew through the air and hit her head squarely against a tree,

The Modern Day System Of International Commerce
Introduction
The modern day system of international commerce has developed over roughly 200 years. Much
until about the end of the eighteenth century it was most unlikely to transact export trade as it is
today because of lack of technological infrastructure. The important legal framework which would
have made for the use of the bill of lading as a document of transfer was lacking. Today much of
the world s tonnage is transacted under cif contracts which debuted about 150 years ago.
In international trade, the sales contract is the heart of an export import transaction. It is however,
always supported by several other related contracts, reflecting the complexity of the transaction and
number of parties involved. Basic among these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because most of the statements as to the passing of risk under fob are as regards whether
goods are on board/loaded or not. They essentially do not deal with the constraint of damage or
loss of goods during loading. In Pyrene Co. Ltd v Scindia Navigation Co. Ltd a fire tender sold
fob London previously was damaged through the fault of the carrier while being carried onboard.
This damage in question occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose
was whether the shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . If risk
doesn t pass at the beginning of the loading, when does it then pass? Is it when the goods move
across the rail or when goods are loaded onboard? Devlin J pointed out in Pyrene thus; The division
of loading into two parts are suited to more antiquated methods of loading than are now generally
adopted and the ship s rail has lost much of its nineteenth century significance. Only the most
enthusiastic lawyer could watch with satisfaction the spectacle of liablities shifting uneasily as the
cargo sways at the end of a derrick across a notional perpendicular projecting from the ship s rail
He went further to hold that parties were free to define their obligations as regards loading ; and
that in the case before him the carrier s had obligations which began

Essay On African American Inequality
The African American fight for civil rights has been a time consuming conflict in the United
States of America. More than 50 years after The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed, African
Americans are still treated differently from their white peers. While some people believe that
African American equality was solved with the election of Barack Obama as President of the
United Statesof America, this is not correct. Ever since the election of President Barack Obama,
unarmed African Americans are still being murdered by their American peers, causing the Black
Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement was formed after Trayvon Martin, a
young black male, was murdered by George Zimmerman. While the 21st century is here, African
Americanracial inequalities are still a major problem. On March 15, 1965, former President,
Lyndon B. Johnson, gave a speech, We Shall Overcome in Washington, DC after the violent march
in Selma, Alabama. This speech was Lyndon B. Johnson s most memorable speech because he
spoke about getting congress to ban racial discrimination against African American s in the
voting polls. While voting is now open to people of all races, racism is still very alive in the
United States. On March 18, 2008, President Barack Obama gave a speech, A More Perfect Union

American race. In President Barack Obama s speech he addressed the racial inequalities in the

Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons Essay
The Equal Rights Amendment has struggled immensely to be enacted since its introduction to
Congress in 1923. It is an amendment with a simple goal: give women equal rights. It seems like
that would be easily passed, but there was a lot of opposition that heavily criticized and
misconstrued the intentions of the amendment. The opponents rationale for their beliefs is very
interesting, because their main arguments are simply not true. Using false information to misinform
the public is unfortunately a very common occurrence, and it is important that the truth is available
and the lies are openly debunked. By simply looking at the amendment, it is clear that opponents to
it are lying to instill fear into the public.
One of the most well known opponents of the amendment is Phyllis Schlafly. She and her
followers, known as Stop ERA, used traditional gender roles to scare the public. One of their most

Anti abortion activists describe this very negatively, saying that people would use this for
convenience like another form of birth control. They argue that this is immoral for women to
have an abortion so easily and frequently (Napikowski). There are multiple flaws in this
argument. The first is that they are focusing on what would be a miniscule segment of the
population to imply that a lot of women would frequently have abortions. Even if it did affect
them, lifting restrictions on women s reproductive rights does not make them yearn to have
abortions. But it does not affect them, it affects the women who make that decision for
themselves. Moreover, it is ultimately the individual states decision how they address and restrict
abortion. The ERA s website clearly states that the presence or absence of a state ERA does not
necessarily correlate with a state s legal climate for reproductive rights . Not surprisingly, this claim
is like all the others misrepresentative and

The Controversy About Water Baptism
Baptism is one of the most important steps in a Christian s life. It is a symbol of a commitment
to follow Jesus Christ along with a public confession of Christ in one s life. Baptism represents
an internal death to self and a union with Christ and his death and resurrection. It means a dying
to the old self and living a new life in Christ. It s an internal certainty that is tied to an external
symbol of water. However Baptism is more than a symbol, it s a promise of a complete change of
life from a sinful person to a life of salvation and grace. Today we will celebrate the union of John
with the Lord JesusChrist. The baptism of John serves as an outward symbol of commitment and
obedience to Christ.

The Importance Of Pride In Fences By Agust Wilson
In history, a lot of great man have fallen do to pride and selfishness, In the bible it says Lucifer
clearly turned out to be so awed with his own particular excellence, knowledge, power, and
position that he started to want for himself the respect and transcendence that had a place with
God alone. The transgression that ruined Lucifer was self created pride. I used that lesson from
the bible to say that pride can lead to major life consequences. In fences by Agust Wilson we see
a perfect example of that when it comes to the main character, Troy is shown as a man who has
hurt the people who are closest to him without even realizing it. He has acted in an unsensitive
and heartless way towards his significant other, Rose, his brother, Gabriel and his children, Cory

with the name of Cadabra on July 5, 1994 and a year later in 1995 changed the name of the

The Modern State Concerns The Concept Of Property
A core aspect of the modern state concerns the concept of property. Whether property
encompasses objects, land, or even ideas, we have laws to define the process by which we can
justly gain ownership of certain things and to give us security once we hold this property, and a
judicial system to punish those who don t abide by the rules. But to what extent do we have a right
to property, and how do we justly obtain it? The British philosopher John Locke(1632 1704) argues
that the origins of private property are to be found in how we use our labour to appropriate things
to ourselves. Private property, for Locke, is pre political in the sense that it exist prior to the
creation of the state it is a natural right, not by convention. However,... Show more content on

The argument begins with the idea that God gave the world to all men in common, and reason so
that we can make the best use of it a precept derived from both reason and revelation. Yet, while
the world may be common, for Locke it is also clear that we have property in our own person,
and also in our own labour (Locke, 1980 [1689], sections 25 27). Following from this, that to
which we apply our labour in turn becomes our property: By utilising our labour in removing
something from the common, this object has, by this labour something annexed to it, that excludes
the common right of other men (ibid, section 17). So, by picking an apple from a tree or catching
a fish from a stream, I am joining to it my labour, something to which nobody else has rights to but
me, and thus it becomes my own private property. Furthermore, Locke argues that by tilling and
improving land, or enclosing areas of it, this too constitutes the just acquisition of property, subject
to the constraint that there is as much, and as good left for others (ibid).
Despite the apparent strength that one may see in this argument, particularly with regard to its
tight logical structure, if we look to Locke s concept of self ownership, which provides the
foundations for the subsequent theory of labour mixing, we can begin to see how the theory is
unsatisfactory. Key to Locke s idea of

Rocky Mountain Medical Center ( Rmmc )
Introduction
Rocky Mountain Medical Center (RMMC) is a nonprofit hospital and is the result of a merger
between a legacy community hospital and a local university hospital. The merger was an intent to
gain greater market power with third party payers and more efficient operating costs but actually
resulted in significant operating losses due to lower reimbursement rates and more intense
competition. The merger consolidated administrative staff which was financially beneficial but
decreased the quality of care between the units. RMMC is motivated to stay on the front page of
health care delivery and is dedicated to innovations improving processes and programs that impact
quality outcomes.
Delivery of efficient and quality care while maintaining efficient operating costs is an important
factor in attracting new customers from a variety of backgrounds. RMMC is located in an urban
area with high unemployment, poverty and disease. The majority of its patient mix consists of
indigent care; therefore a large portion of final reimbursement comes from Medicaid and other low
reimbursement payers resulting in huge write offs of billing related services.
Performance Measurement System
It is imperative that RMMC expands its patient mix in order to increase operating income. An
important factor in achieving this result is improving the quality of care and customer satisfaction.
RMMC needs to be able to measure the current outcomes and initiate changes for improvement.

The Evolution Of Species Extinction
Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect
human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat
fragmentation and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions.
The synergistic impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in
the morphed climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter
species competitions, resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and
threatened category. At other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low
precipitation rates, not only creates unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal
changes in biological clock and physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life
history traits (Reynold et al. 2003, Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both
externally and internally, brings incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic
conditions, finally making the species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction.
The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current
scenario, many species are in the queue of extinction. We are losing our uncounted valuable
biodiversity, in a sense, we still don t have exact idea of how many species are surviving globally,
and we are losing them before we

Life Is Beautiful Theme
Life is beautiful is a 1997 Italian tragicomedy drama film, directed and starring Roberto Benigni.
The film narrated a World War 2 story in where a jewish father named Guido Orefice s family was
captured into a jewish concentration camp, however he employed his fertile imagination, and
manage to shield his son Joshua from the horrors of the camp and sacrificed himself to ensure
Joshua and Dora his wife s survivals. The film strongly conveyed the themes of innocence and love
through uses of a range of cinematic techniques and narrative elements, such as diegetic and non
diegetic sounds, Mise en scene, foreshadowing and characterizations.
Both diegetic and non diegetic sound in the film conveyed innocence in Guido s attitudes toward life

Secondly, Dora s custom a red coat was the only bright color within the crowd entering the camp.
This must had been significantly designed to subtly showed the great love she has for her family
in her sacrifice with a heroic color of red. At the same time, this striking color implied her
difference from everyone else as a non jewish volunteer . Thirdly, by observing other prisoners in
the room Guido and Joshua were in, they eventually decreased implying deaths were always
happening. This strongly contrasted with Joshua s innocent views of the camp built and protected
by the great love of Guido. Also their dirty uniforms and skinny figures showed the brutal life they
were going through. Guido was samely suffering, but he acted positively and fully enthusiastically
whenever talking to Joshua, this strongly showed the his love.
The narrative elements of foreshadowing and characterization successfully made the story
movingly tragic and powerful, which conveyed the themes of love and innocence through the
vivid characters. Firstly, Guido s horse was painted in green, and labeled Jewish , his bookshop was
named Jewish shop , and with Joshua reading a sign of No jews or dogs allowed in a bakery, it was

Can A Motive Be A Theme
Even though Motive and theme are two distinct terms that describe two different kinds of melodic
units in music, a motive can still be a theme. To explain this in more detail, first one would have to
define each of the terms. Motive is defined by what a composer is trying to communicate through
their musical work. A motive is but a component of a theme. A theme being according to The
Enjoyment of Music textbook a melodic idea in a large scale work (Chapter 6). So how exactly
can a motive be a theme? Motives are key in order to create an overall theme in a musical
composition. Without motives, a theme cannot exist. A motive in itself is just smaller themes
broken into smaller melodic units. If the motives have the same ideas as the theme,

Essay on The Effectiveness of Native Title
The Effectiveness of Native Title
The debate about native title issues has tended to see issues from idealistic perspectives ignoring the
practical realities that native title poses to governments, industry and indigenous people. The
implementation of the Native Title is an appropriate and significant aspect of Australias common
and statute law, which effectively strives to develop a fair outcome for all Australian citizens. The
Native Title Act 1993, like the court Mabo decision in 1992, transforms the ways in, which
indigenous ownership of land may be formally recognised and incorporated within Australian legal
and property regimes. The process of implementation, however, raises a number of ... Show more

The aboriginals were not recognised as land owners until the High Court decision of the Mabo
case in 1992, which was closely followed by the adoption of the Native Title Act 1993. The
decision of the Mabo case effectively benefits the many aboriginals whose ancestors where
unfortunate having had their land and homes invaded by Europeans in 1788.
There are many stakeholders involved in the dispute revolving around native title however, both the
statue and common law is effective in producing the fairest possible outcomes for all parties
involved. The process of claiming land in more complex then simply applying for the claim, for
native title to exist there must be an ongoing link between the current inhabitant and the ancestors
form pre colonial times. Native title can be extinguished is the holders lose their connection with
the land. The Government believes it has provided a fair and balanced framework for the future by
adopting the Native Title Act in 1993.
The interpretation of native title is often misunderstood, which results in the establishment many
negative opinions regarding native claims. The claim of native title does not mean indigenous
people own the land they claim, it simply gives them the right to a say in the production,
development and use of the land. In some cases aboriginals receive small amounts

what was right. Sarty freed himself and ran to the landlord s house to inform him of his father s
future actions that night.
Sarty was late with his good intentions. His father had started the fire and the barn begun to
burn. The men showed up at the barn firing at Abner. knowing it was too late yet still running
even after he heard the shot and, an instant later, two shots, pausing now without knowing he had
ceased to run, Pap! Pap! . (Faulkner, p. 208). Sarty knew he made the right choice but it was a hard
one to make. Going against a loved one for the better good is not an easy decision to make.
Sarty s father Abner wanted him to keep a secret like my brother wanted me to keep a secret. Abner
thought Sarty should stick with him and not tell about the barn burning. My brother hosted house
parties with lots of kids from our high school and expected me to side with him since I was his
sibling and not tell the parents even though it went against their wishes. The parties involved
underage drinking and sometimes a fight even broke out. Like Sarty I went along with my brother

4Give three examples of inclusive principles.
1 Ans: The benefits of diversity in the workplace are ;
a)High productivity: In the workplace there are numerous people belonging to different caste,
culture ,sex ,class etc. and each individual has the capacity to offer different views and ideas to a
particular problem or challenge. Thus it increases employee morale and ... Show more content on

becomes a place where every individual is valued and appreciated. Understanding , appreciating
and valuing all staffs members different sets of skills and abilities and offering fair ,courtesy and
equal opportunities to all individuals becomes the prime motive of the company.

In 1907, Jamsetji Tata, an industrialist, established Indians biggest and first steelplant. At the same
time it was Asia s initial private sector steel company. The reason of Tata Steel s establishing was
that Jamsetji had the idea of developing an iron and steel industry in his own country.

2.2 Strategic drift
One significant point in position analysis is the strategic drift, which is defined and illustrated
(exhibit 1.1) in appendix 1.
Since its establishment, Tata has shown a strategy of incremental change. Arguably, that point was
important because so the group might vary within the current market. In the nineteenth century
steel was seen as an unprofitable section. Even more than 50 independent steel producers went into
bankruptcy in the USA (Business Monitor International Ltd, 2010: 54).
In the late twentieth century, demand growth was strongly low. In contrast, the twenty first century
saw a boom in demand. For instance, Tata bought weaker players internationally, such as NatSteel
in 2004, which was Tata Steel s first overseas acquisition, and the Anglo Dutch giant Corus in April
2007. Through the investment in Corus, Tata has created a manufacturing and marketing network
in Europe, South East Asia and the pacific rim countries. These acquisitions were also the result of

The Four Types Of Authority In The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is a fictional story set in totalitarian nation Panem. It follows Katniss
Everdeen as she takes the place of her younger sister in the Hunger Games Tournaments. The
tournament consists of 24 contestants who are forced into a cosmic arena to fight until only one
survives. The Hunger Games exhibits four authority types; charismatic, legal rational. Traditional
authority is legitimate power based on customs and beliefs passed down from generation to
generation. The church, family, grandparents, parents, the Pope and the monarchy are examples
of people that might have the most impact in conveying what is right or wrong in a persons life.
Most individuals tend to follow their primary agents or leaders when it comes to what type of
practices they put the most faith in rather the leaders personal appeal. Haymitch Abernathy played

Supply And Demand For Real Estate
INTRODUCTION
Within the property industry, the ever changing nature of the real estate market is affecting supply
and demand for real estate. As a result, a key issue stemming from reducing demand is increasing
office vacancy in Brisbane s central business district which reached a high of 15.6% in January
2015, according to the Property Council of Australia (2015). Current literature suggests that the lack
of demand can be attributed to negative net absorption by the government and resources sectors,
office over supply, low business confidence and high unemployment rates (Property Council of
Australia 2015). This is making office space difficult to lease, increasing financial stress on property
owners and changing how the office investment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The World Trade Organization And Its Predecessor The... Over the course of its history, the World Trade Organization (and its predecessor the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) has aimed to liberalise trade throughout the globe. While accomplishing such a task is no easy matter, the WTO has managed to successfully implement a number of agreements over the course of 67 years towards such a goal. Recently though, the WTO seems to have stalled in producing successful agreements. The latest round of such agreements, dubbed the Doha Development Round, has been in development for nearly 15 years now with little to show for it. Why is it then that the WTO, an organization that has managed to successfully agree on eight previous rounds, been stuck for so long? The World Trade Organizationlargely accomplishes its agenda through rounds : negotiation rounds between all members that largely focus on specific agendas with the aim to create guidelines and rules that promote global trade. Historically, the WTO (and the GATT) have seen eight rounds thus far (nine if counting the current Doha round), with each producing an universally agreed on agreement. The first round of such, taking place in 1947, is what actually brought about the GATT and focused largely on tariff controls. The subsequent four rounds, occurring in 1949, 1951, 1956, and 1960, each also focused on tariffs controls. Such negotiations largely took place because of the quickly changing world playing field and as new members joined onto the GATT. It wasn t until the mid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Hot August Night Inside The Echo Essay There is the smell of cigarettes, alcohol, and sweat in the air. It is about 10 PM on a hot August night inside the Echo in Los Angeles. People are packed inside the small music venue waiting as band roadies set up the stage with speakers, microphones, electric guitars, electric bass guitars, and a drum set. Groups of black clothed or stud, patch, and chain laden people are scattered about; an eager, almost impatient energy dominates the venue s atmosphere. There is a thumbs up exchange between venue crew members and the lights go off, leaving only bright and colorful stage lights shining on the empty stage. The audience erupts with cheers as four middle aged men walk on stage. They get in their places and moments later, fast paced, messy, distortion heavy music blasts from the stage and speakers. The singer growls, I wanna kick in the radio/ I wanna bomb the record store/ I say, destroy all music! The audience goes wild and a large circle pit immediately forms in the middle of the venue. Youths and adults alike are running around, slamming into, and aggressively pushing each other in the circle pit. Some people climb on stage and dive into the crowd. All negativity, stress, obligations, and personal afflictions of the people inside the Echo fly out its doors. The band performing was Los Angeles punk rockband the Weirdos. The audience consisted of punk fans. The punk music genre, subculture, and style is often times ignored, ridiculed, or portrayed as a fad that young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lethal injection uses three drugs, a fast acting barbiturate that sedates the inmate and the drug Tubocurarine that paralyzes the inmate, and finally potassium chloride is used to stop his heart. People that supports lethal injection believes that it is more humane method of execution than any other because it cause little or no pain. • 5. Saber The Hero s Journey In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it means to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search to find his father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the traditional sense. While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to be a typical herobecause of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional heroic attributes. He does, however, partially make his amends as an anti hero. According to Joseph Cambell s Hero s Journey, there is a standard set of actions that transpires in multiple stories, particularly in heroic ones. This sequence of actions guides ... To clarify, up until this point it is clear that Saber (in his unheroic like fashion) is mainly relying on others to complete his search. In Cairo, he finally places an advertisement for his father, though in perspective, it means the success of his search practically depends on his father seeing the advertisement and responding to it. Saber makes no further attempts to even narrow down his father s possible occupation or location. In contrast, Elham cultivates her own future, acquiring a higher education while working as a clerk, a noteworthy feat for a woman in her times. Saber, the supposed hero, however is unwilling to accommodate for a more reliable and realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work he responds, any work I do must come through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later when she actually offers to find him possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s nothing I know how to do (407). • 6. The Psychological Side Of The Injury Personal It is widely an accepted belief that sports are ninety percent mental and ten percent physical so when an injury occurs it is just as equal in importance to be aware of the psychological side of the injury as well as the physical injury. Athletes around the world know not only the physical pain, but the emotional toll injury places on a person who is sought after to perform their best day in and day out. Small injuries that lower one s top performance ability, big injuries that force cease of play for any amount of time, as well as chronic injuries that consistently keep coming back and influence performance ability for a long time all effect people mentally negatively; some rise above and some do not. Staying mentally strong during a time of injury is difficult and just as in any difficult situation people respond differently. Knowing the ways that are typical in response to an injury and being able to apply positive traits can provide for a much healthier, better, and in some cases faster recovery. They result from people in the world from different cultures, races, religions, and nations being unable to get along and to work together to solve the world s problems. These statements by James A. Banks have made a profound impact on my view towards multicultural educationand the nation s current trend of standardization and high stakes testing. Scholarly research shows that the emphasis placed on testing and standards, mandated by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, is causing teachers to focus entirely on basic skills in reading, writing, and math (Banks Banks, 2010). Thus, when AYP is based on academic achievement levels, the subgroup rules create negative unintended consequences for the students they were designed to help, by disproportionately subjecting racially diverse schools to sanctions under NCLB. This consequence also threatens to increase the growing dropout and push out rates for students in these sub groups (Darling Hammond, 2007). This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students in non minority groups as well. When there is no time for focus on skills that students need to participate in social change, these students will not learn to question practices within society or to work with other students from all different groups and backgrounds in order to effect change. Classes in schools which may contribute to multicultural education, such as social studies and foreign language, are being cut completely in order to spend more time on reading and math (Au, 2009). It is the type of personality that doesn t fit well for a manager or someone in a leadership position. Supervisors, when educating and training their employees, need to possess a degree of humility during communication with them. The important component is people skills: employees must not only respect their supervisors, but they must also feel that they are respected by their bosses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Autonomy is the degree to which a job provides substantial freedom and discretion to the individual in scheduling the work and in determining the procedures to be used in carrying it out (Robbins Judge, 2009). For organizations that specialize in work groups and teams, the component of autonomy is necessary in order to achieve productivity and the organization s goals. Employees need to feel like they have flexibility in their scheduling and how their work processes. Once an employee has this ability, they become more cooperative in working with others. The perception, that the employee s time is just as valuable as the organization s goals, gives the employee the perceived organizational support thereby increasing their satisfaction and productivity on the job. When a supervisor shows narcissism, this tells the employees that their concerns about how they do work and when they work will take a back seat to the wishes of the supervisor. The supervisor becomes more in control of every facet of the organization, which destroys any autonomy the employee once possessed. The worker, losing autonomy, becomes less satisfied, less productive, and loses out on developing new skills. The worker, if part of a group, drags down the rest of the team s productivity. The narcissistic personality of the supervisor has a negative effect on the organization; his selfish attitude permeates through the organization causing drops in productivity. Research reveals that it might be better to keep all the conscientious, covenantal people on the same team separate from low conscientious members to remove inequity and improve satisfaction (Fischer, ... We form an opinion within the first 30 seconds of meeting someone and that plays a vital role in the relationships formed. Similarly with films, the audiences usually identifies with the genre within a few minutes of the screening. With that in mind, this analysis will focus upon decoding the opening sequence of two contrasting films in order to understand its tone and genre. Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the loss of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that helped improved Morse s design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to transfer currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his telegraph; it was able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn t over, he now had to send his work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session, which was March 3, 1843, he spent the whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber, anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills (Morse) to watch the bill get passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set up the very first telegraph machine from Washington to Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that consisted of an old picture or canvas frame fastened to a table; the wheels of an old wooden clock [...] and a short circuit of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro magnet connected with the positive and negative poles of the battery and terminating the mercury cups (Morse). • 21. Woods Descriptive Writing The woods were inexplicably silent and mysterious, and the feeling was accentuated by the faint, gray light diffused by the cloud canopy above. The wet looking blacks and browns of the tree trunks and the occasional spot of muted rusty red or weak green from old fallen leaves stood out sharply against the purity of the freshly fallen snow cover. Only a single set of hoofprints could be seen, off on a nearly obliterated woodland trail. They were already beginning to be covered by the flakes falling from the tired gray sky as Emma brought Birdie, the chestnut mare, to a halt at the edge of the foul road. This is terribly sloppy going, she said aloud, with a deprecating glance at her mud spotted dress. Probably I ought to use the forest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In summer, the worst parts of the path were apparent and could be easily avoided, but with a full blanket of snow, it was ten times more difficult to navigate and ten times more dangerous. Then it happened. In a fever of nervousness, while looking behind her for the elusive follower, Emma simultaneously jerked back on the reins and urged her horse forward with her legs. Birdie half reared, tripped, then blindly bolted straight into a thicket. The reins snapped out of Emma s hands and one of her feet slipped out of the stirrup. In a last desperate effort, Emma grasped for the reins, but they flew over Birdie s head. The thoroughly panicked horse crashed right through the thicket and galloped down the path. Already fairly unseated by Birdie s momentum, when her horse stumbled on a hidden branch, Emma could no longer keep in the saddle. There was a sickening crash as Birdie hit the ground. Much until about the end of the eighteenth century it was most unlikely to transact export trade as it is today because of lack of technological infrastructure. The important legal framework which would have made for the use of the bill of lading as a document of transfer was lacking. Today much of the world s tonnage is transacted under cif contracts which debuted about 150 years ago. In international trade, the sales contract is the heart of an export import transaction. This damage in question occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose was whether the shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . If risk doesn t pass at the beginning of the loading, when does it then pass? Is it when the goods move across the rail or when goods are loaded onboard? Devlin J pointed out in Pyrene thus; The division of loading into two parts are suited to more antiquated methods of loading than are now generally adopted and the ship s rail has lost much of its nineteenth century significance. Only the most enthusiastic lawyer could watch with satisfaction the spectacle of liablities shifting uneasily as the cargo sways at the end of a derrick across a notional perpendicular projecting from the ship s rail He went further to hold that parties were free to define their obligations as regards loading ; and that in the case before him the carrier s had obligations which began ... More than 50 years after The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed, African Americans are still treated differently from their white peers. While some people believe that African American equality was solved with the election of Barack Obama as President of the United Statesof America, this is not correct. Ever since the election of President Barack Obama, unarmed African Americans are still being murdered by their American peers, causing the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement was formed after Trayvon Martin, a young black male, was murdered by George Zimmerman. While the 21st century is here, African Americanracial inequalities are still a major problem. On March 15, 1965, former President, Lyndon B. It is an amendment with a simple goal: give women equal rights. The opponents rationale for their beliefs is very interesting, because their main arguments are simply not true. Using false information to misinform the public is unfortunately a very common occurrence, and it is important that the truth is available and the lies are openly debunked. By simply looking at the amendment, it is clear that opponents to it are lying to instill fear into the public. One of the most well known opponents of the amendment is Phyllis Schlafly. The first is that they are focusing on what would be a miniscule segment of the population to imply that a lot of women would frequently have abortions. Even if it did affect them, lifting restrictions on women s reproductive rights does not make them yearn to have abortions. But it does not affect them, it affects the women who make that decision for themselves. Moreover, it is ultimately the individual states decision how they address and restrict abortion. • 34. The Modern State Concerns The Concept Of Property A core aspect of the modern state concerns the concept of property. Whether property encompasses objects, land, or even ideas, we have laws to define the process by which we can justly gain ownership of certain things and to give us security once we hold this property, and a judicial system to punish those who don t abide by the rules. But to what extent do we have a right to property, and how do we justly obtain it? The British philosopher John Locke(1632 1704) argues that the origins of private property are to be found in how we use our labour to appropriate things to ourselves. Private property, for Locke, is pre political in the sense that it exist prior to the creation of the state it is a natural right, not by convention. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument begins with the idea that God gave the world to all men in common, and reason so that we can make the best use of it a precept derived from both reason and revelation. Yet, while the world may be common, for Locke it is also clear that we have property in our own person, and also in our own labour (Locke, 1980 [1689], sections 25 27). Following from this, that to which we apply our labour in turn becomes our property: By utilising our labour in removing something from the common, this object has, by this labour something annexed to it, that excludes the common right of other men (ibid, section 17). So, by picking an apple from a tree or catching a fish from a stream, I am joining to it my labour, something to which nobody else has rights to but me, and thus it becomes my own private property. Furthermore, Locke argues that by tilling and improving land, or enclosing areas of it, this too constitutes the just acquisition of property, subject to the constraint that there is as much, and as good left for others (ibid). Despite the apparent strength that one may see in this argument, particularly with regard to its tight logical structure, if we look to Locke s concept of self ownership, which provides the foundations for the subsequent theory of labour mixing, we can begin to see how the theory is unsatisfactory. • 36. The Evolution Of Species Extinction Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat fragmentation and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions. The synergistic impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in the morphed climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter species competitions, resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and threatened category. At other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low precipitation rates, not only creates unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal changes in biological clock and physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life history traits (Reynold et al. 2003, Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both externally and internally, brings incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic conditions, finally making the species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction. The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current scenario, many species are in the queue of extinction.
