Essay On White Collar Crime
Writing an essay on the topic of white-collar crime can be quite challenging due to the intricacies
and complexities associated with the subject matter. White-collar crime involves non-violent,
financially motivated offenses committed by individuals, businesses, or government officials.
The difficulty arises from the need to delve into a variety of fields such as law, finance,
sociology, and ethics to fully understand and analyze this multifaceted issue.
One of the challenges lies in the extensive research required to gather accurate and up-to-date
information on white-collar crime. This type of crime is constantly evolving with new schemes
and methods emerging, necessitating a thorough investigation into recent cases and legal
developments. Moreover, understanding the underlying causes, societal impact, and regulatory
measures involves delving into economic theories, psychological aspects, and the broader
implications of white-collar crime on society.
Crafting a coherent and well-structured essay on white-collar crime also demands a careful
balance between technical details and readability. Explaining complex financial or legal concepts
in a way that is accessible to a general audience while maintaining accuracy is a delicate task.
Additionally, the essay should critically analyze the ethical considerations surrounding white-
collar crime, addressing questions of accountability, corporate responsibility, and the
effectiveness of legal deterrents.
Furthermore, presenting a compelling argument or thesis on this topic requires a keen
understanding of various perspectives. White-collar crime is often debated in terms of systemic
issues, individual culpability, and the efficacy of legal frameworks. The essay should navigate
through these different viewpoints while presenting a coherent and well-supported stance.
In conclusion, writing an essay on white-collar crime involves navigating through a maze of
legal, financial, ethical, and sociological complexities. It requires extensive research, critical
thinking, and the ability to communicate intricate concepts in a comprehensible manner.
However, with dedication and a systematic approach, one can unravel the layers of this
challenging topic to create a thoughtful and insightful essay.

Dell Corporate Strategy
Corporate Strategy The economic activities performed by Dell encompass the
development, manufacturing, sale and support of personal computers and computer
related products. Since its foundation, the company has been based on the Direct
Model, i.e. Dell has always tried and managed to create direct relationships with its
customers, by selling products directly and without the participation of
intermediaries. The sale has always taken place through a telephone service or via
the Internet. In order to accomplish its goal of being as fast as possible in the
delivery of the customized products it supplies, Dell has created an ample network of
manufacturing plants around the world. The corporation is present in each continent

Even on the manufacturing side, Dell seems to have been reconsidering its
position. The company has not lately been as much as profitable it would like and
some of the reasons for such performance have been allocated to the fact that the
company owns its manufacturing plants. For this reason, the company would have
approached some contract manufacturers to take over what in the 1990s was the
envy of its competitors: its production plants. Products The products that Dell
produces encompass the following categories: Desktop PCs Mobility Servers and
Networking Storage Services Software and Peripherals From the figures issued by
the company (see chart A), it is possible to understand the vastest product
categories Dell relies on are those of Desktop PCs and Mobility, which account for
more than 50% of the total revenues coming into the company. However, it is worth
pointing out that the revenues originated by PCs are quite stable, since it is not
possible to notice great increases in this business area, whereas the growth of the
revenues in other areas, such as mobility or servers, are much more noticeable and
reach even the double digits. The corporation aims at attracting specific market
segments, by marketing different brands. In fact, Dell produces a line of products
completely destined to the market segment of business. In the class of BUSINESS

The Relationship Between North American Free Trade...
Q1. Examine the various types of regional economic integration. What are the
differences between the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the
European Union s level of integration?(2 pages maximum)
Regional economic integration represents agreements between countries in a
geographic region to reduce tariff and non tariff barriers to the free flow of goods,
services and factors of production between each other. Neighboring countries tend to
ally because of their proximity to one another, somewhat similar regional tastes, the
relative ease of establishing channels of distribution and a willingness to cooperate
with one another for the greater benefit of all allied parties. Theoretically, the concept

Customs Union eliminates trade barriers between member countries and adopts a
common external trade policy. Custom union provides for economic cooperation as
in a free trade zone. The primary difference between customs union and free trade
area involves members agreeing to treat trade with non members countries in a
similar manner. Most countries who enter a customs union often desire further
integration in the future. For example, the Andean Pact (for agreements between
Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru).
Common Market allows for the creation of economically integrated markets
between member countries. Trade barriers are removed, as are any restrictions on
the movement of labor and capital between member countries. Like customs union,
there is a common trade policy for trade with non member nations. The primary
advantage of common markets is workers are no longer needing visa or work permit
to work in another member country of a common market. For example, The Common
Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or simply known as COMESA.
Economic Union occurs when countries enter into an economic agreement to remove
barriers to trade and adopt common economic policies. European Union or simply
known as the EU is an example of economic union.
The European Union or simply known as the EU is often viewed as an emerging
Unrequited Love
Romeo and Juliet Essay
Unrequited Love
Love was always a monopoly. You never know whether someone really loves you or
not. All you know is you love them. That is what always makes unrequited love
difficult. In Romeo and Juliet, unrequited love is present whether apparent or
implied. Romeo falls in love with Rosaline and Paris falls in love with Juliet which
remain the most obvious examples. However, I do believe their is an unrequited
love between Juliet and her parents. When we first meet Romeo, he is infatuated by
Rosaline (which he calls love), who happens not to be in love with him and plans to
become a nun.
Why, such love s transgression. Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast,

Out, you green sickness carrion! Out, you baggage! ........... (III, v, 154 162)
This quote proved how cruel Lord Capulet was to Juliet. He disrespected her and
disregarded her wants. He criticized her and later slapped her. He forced her into
doing something she did not want to do, showing how selfish he was.
Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church

They question their blessing, Juliet, which shows they do not really care for her,
because no parent would question whether their child was a blessing. Well, a good
parent would not. In conclusion, Juliet and her parents, Paris and Juliet, and Romeo
and Rosaline all experienced unrequited love in the play Romeo and Juliet. Whether
obvious or not, they are there and continue throughout the book. Unrequited love put
the play into twists and turns, making it a lot harder for the characters to cope with
their problems. The events unfolding in this play continuously prove, love is a
monopoly, you never know
Summary Of Farming Of The Bones By Edwidge Danticat
Representations of War and Genocide
Edwidge Danticat s Farming of the Bones portrays genocide and massacre in a
number of ways. This essay concentrates on reasons why in history, the Parsley
massacre is not known as genocide but rather a massacre. Massacre is defined as the
act of mass murdering of people because of a variety of reasons; it is indiscriminately
killing of a large number of people and especially the less powerful, less power and
those that are not rebellious. Massacre can also be referred as an act of destruction
where not only people are slaughtered by their properties are destroyed as well.
Genocide is an act of killing people from a certain ethnic group or discriminatory
killing of people. Therefore, in History, Parsley massacre is called massacre because
Parsley was about mass murdering of helpless and less fortunate people due to a
number of reasons. The author of The Farming Bones, Danticat combines history and
fictions to represent war and genocide. This book relates to the historical fiction that
focuses on 1937 massacre that took place in the Dominican Republic under the ruling
of dictator, Rafael Trujillo (Upchurch). In this case, the intention of the author is to
use both fiction and history to enable them to understand the novel and its themes. ...

There are various reasons why the author mentions genocides in history but does not
mention the Parsley massacre. First, the author feels that history has forgotten the
incident that led to the deaths of people from her country. History mentions events
such as Armenian genocide, Holocaust, Rwandan genocide and many other events
that led loss lives. These extermination historical events can be referred to the
genocides since the certain minority groups the
Equality Can Be Measured And Measure Equality
Equality can be measured through various measures to understand the magnitude
or scale of it social scientists use various techniques to examine and deduce the
level of equality. The level of equality varies drastically across the globe, in one of
the most unequal societies in generations. According to equality human rights
(slide 9 equality see slide on link) equality can be seen as the ideology that each
individual has an equal ability to fulfil their ambitions in life and the notion that no
one individual should be worse off due to their location of birth, belivefs or
disability. Equality can be categorised and analysed through many ways such as
health, wellbeing and happiness. In the UK, the equality act protects citizens via
the equality act 2010. If a person has been discriminated they have enough leverage
and protection from the state to be able to take an individual or firm to court or
tribunals. On the face of it in a general sense equality understand that due to
historical circumstances specific people in society with certain charwectersitcs are
statistically more likely to experience discrimination both in life and in the
workplace with race and disability especially. However measuring equality can be
largely more complicated and intrinsic. Many methods have been developed to
examine and measure the level of equality. In my essay I will be questioning
whether wellbeing is actually a good measure of equality and be examining how
wellbeing can be measured and
Karzan Soundtrack
The Tarzan soundtrack stands out from the rest of the Disney line up as it was the
first Disney soundtrack to be recorded in multiple languages. It has won both an
oscar and grammy. This is due to Phil Colins influence on the music and his creation
of original songs that shape the world of Tarzan. The reason the sound in Tarzanworks
so well is because it s harmonious with the story being presented to the audience.
Besides setting the scene with background noise, it helps the audience to understand
the film on an emotional level and builds the characters.
Phil Colin contributions to the sound palette of the film includes drums and
vocalizations that give it an African aesthetic. The music follows the narrative,

This is most evident in the scene when Tarzan meets Jane for the first time. He
mimics her in order to communicate. For instance, when they hear a gun fire
(47:57), Jane exclaims, Clayton. The gunshot is heard once more and Tarzan says
Clayton. When Jane ask Tarzan to take her to camp, he mimics the gunfire sound,
for Tarzan, Clayton is the sound of gunshot. This is seen again when Tarzan visits
the camp and Clayton fires his gun, Tarzan is able to identify Clayton because of his
gun. (48 min) This contributes to the audience understanding Clayton s violent
nature. (1:08:47) After the crew hijacks the ship, Clayton fires his gun, Tarzan calls
out his name for assistance, Clayton says, Have we met? , but this time we see
Clayton s villainous nature. (1:15:40) Then when Tarzan has Clayton cornered, he
feels conflicted about shooting Clayton. Clayton tries to laugh if off, we see Tarzan
jam the gun against Clayton s neck and hear gunfire, but when Clayton opens his
eyes, he along with the audience realizes that Tarzan just made the sound of gunfire.
Unlike Clayton, who uses the gun to get what he wants, Tarzan doesn t need to, he
doesn t have a violent nature despite being raised in the
Why The Reliefs On The Ara Pacis For Matrix Cell 1
The Ara Pacis and the Idealization of Power in the Age of Augustus
I am choosing to focus on the imperial portrait reliefs from the Ara Pacis for matrix
cell 1 because this monument combines politics, religion and social values. The Ara
Pacis Augustae epitomizes the Mos Maiorum, the visual manifestation of Roman
virtues and laws. This paper will explain why the reliefs on the Ara Pacis can be
considered political propaganda. Furthermore, I will analyze how the art in this
monument exhibits the importance of civic piety in Roman politics.
The construction of the Ara Pacis was commissioned by the Senate on the 4th of July
in13 BC to celebrate the triumphant return of Augustus from his campaigns in Iberia
and Gaul after three years of absence. During this time he was forging alliances and
organizing the southern provinces of Gaul that would insure the prosperity of Rome.
The construction of this monument marks a great period of peace inaugurated by
Augustus after a series of political upheavals that scourged Rome following the
assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC and which lasted until the Battle of Actium
in 31 BC. For the first time since Rome began to build her empire, the provinces
flourished within the context of the Pax Romana .
The reliefs of the Ara Pacis are divided between allegorical and historical panels on
the upper register, while the lower register is decorated with acanthus scrolls that
symbolize control over nature. The reliefs of the northern and
Faith In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
C.S. Lewis once described faith as the art of holding onto things your reason has
once accepted, in spite of your changing moods. This concept of faith is repeatedly
tested throughout Yann Martel s novel, The Life of Pi. The book follows the life
of Piscine Patel, or Pi for short, and begins with his exploration of faith through
multiple religions in his hometown of Pondicherry, India, and later delves into his
arduous journey of being stranded at sea with a 420 pound Bengal tiger for 227
days. From his time in Pondicherry to the end of his seemingly ceaseless time at
sea, he is faced with many troublesome dilemmas and life threatening situations, all
of which try the vitality of his faith and his will to live. Through the story of Pi s
life, Martel shows that, although being faced with doubt is inevitable, one must
choose to overcome it with faith because constantly searching for proof to settle
doubt is a hindrance to the quality of one s life. Martel suggests that one must
overcome doubt with faith because it helps the ability to see the better stories of life,
rather than continuously searching for similar, drier, stories based on more
convincing factual elements. These better stories are full of imagination, are a more
comforting and morally satisfying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without it, we may end up walking straight into the face of danger when there is a
warning sign right in front of us. However, Martel wrote The Life of Pi to convey
the message that one must not spend their life trapped in an endless spiral of this
doubtful mindset, and instead choose to have faith in what there may not be proof
for. In doing so, time is spared, countless aspects of life are improved, and the will
to survive in dire situations becomes nearly indestructible. In this dynamic society,
the choice of doubt or faith will always be there, but it is up to the people to choose

Analysis Of Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The Power Struggle for Women in Chronicle of a Death Foretold Chronicle of a
Death Foretold is a narrative that retells the events leading up to the death of
Santiago Nasar. Throughout the novella, there are many instances in which a man
is in a place of power, however, the female characters often are not given this
opportunity. Power can be defined as having the ability to stand up for yourself or
others, make your own decisions, and having an important role in society. It is the
sole characteristic that differentiates men from women in Chronicle of a Death
Foretold. Despite the few instances where women are placed in positions of power,
Gabriel Garcia Marquez effectively proves that women are depicted as powerless
through the use of machismo throughout the story, integrating Colombian gender
roles into the novella and causing women to face many more challenges compared
to men. The novella successfully integrates all three of these aspects to portray
women as powerless. There are minimal instances in which women are placed in
positions of power throughout this novella. However, there is one main example
where this occurs. This occurs very early in the novella, when Santiago Nasar is
with Victoria Guzman and her daughter, Divina Flor. Santiago decides that the time
has come for her to be tamed, (Marquez, p. 9) and as soon as he does this, he is
threatened by Victoria. She points a knife at him and declares that he let go of her,

A knock on my door brings me back to reality. I set my book down and stand up to

Robert Gould Shaw And The Civil War
Robert Gould Shaw, born in Boston into an abolitionist family, naturally sided with
the Union in the Civil War. He had received an education from Harvard prior to
entering the family business and when the secession of the south began his sense of
duty required him to join the Union. Shaw was a natural leader and quickly was
promoted from Lieutenant to Colonel. As a man who proved his worth as a military
leader and his family open support for the integration of freed black slaves into the
military, it is only fitting that he obtained a command leading the first all black unit

in defense of the Union capital. His time with the Seventh New York Regiment
was short lived, due to the unit only serving for thirty days and was disbanded.
During his time in Washington D.C. with his regiment, Shaw discovered his
purpose in life and with much respect and enthusiasm he applied for a commission
in in the regular Army. In May of 1861, his request was granted and he was
assigned to the Second Massachusetts Regiment at the rank of second lieutenant.
This decision to follow his new found purpose placed him in the position to be
involved in some of the Civil Wars greatest and pivotal battles that determined the
momentum of the war. Shaw served in campaigns in western Maryland and
Virginia serving under Major General Nathaniel Banks, who was actively engaged
in stopping major General Thomas Stonewall Jackson s Shenandoah Valley
campaign. Shaw nearly avoided being wounded while fighting in the First Battle
of Winchester, when a bullet struck his pocket watch. Shaw, now baptized by fire,
was offered a position on Brigadier General George H. Gordon s staff and accepted.
He was promoted shortly after the Battle of Cedar Mountain to Captain. The Second
Massachusetts s was present for the Battle of Second Manassas, but was held in
reserve and did not see any action, but later on September 17th, he would be involved
in the bloodiest battle of the entire Civil War, Battle of Antietam. Shaw would be

Othello By William Shakespeare s Othello
Emilia found it and took it to Iago, who left it for Cassio to find; Cassio in turn,
gave it to his mistress.
To add to his suspicions, Iago sets Othello up to hear Cassio s discussion regarding
his mistress Bianca; however, Othello believes he is referring to Desdemona. This
situation only becomes worse when Bianca produces a copy of Othello s
handkerchief, and believing it to be his own he strikes Desdemona in his rage.
Othello first asks Emilia to confirm Desdemona s unfaithfulness, but she cannot;
therefore, he confronts Desdemona herself. Obviously astounded by the accusation,
Desdemona is devastated. Meanwhile, Iago again tricks Roderigo this time into
killing Cassio in order to keep Desdemona in Cyprus. Roderigo again starts a fight
with Cassio, but Cassio injures him, thus Iago injures Cassio himself. Othello,
believing that Iago and has killed Cassio, leaves to again confront Desdemona.
Wanting to rid himself of any potential threat, Iago kills Roderigo. As Othello is
confronting Desdemona, he tells her to wake up and pray as he would not kill thy
unprepared spirit (5.2.33). After explaining his reasoning for killing her, he smothers
Desdemona with a pillow. Emilia finds her mistress murdered at Othello s hand and
is told that her husband, honest Iago, confirmed Desdemona s adultery. Upon hearing
this she, proceeds to tell him the truth of Iago s deception. Iago murders his wife for
her betrayal, but Othello only manages to injure him. Finally knowing
Pinky The Dolphin Research Paper
Pinky the Dolphin
Pinky is a bottlenose dolphin. It is completely normal, except for the fact that it s
pink. The social media has been going crazy since Pinky s last sighting on
September 9th, 2015. Pinky isn t the first pink dolphin, and probably won t be the
last. Nevertheless, it is a rare type, and scarcity creates value, or in Pinky s case, fame.
Pinky was first sighted in June 2007 in Louisiana waters as a dolphin calf following
its mother. This time, it has been accompanied by another grey bottlenose dolphin.
This means that they are mating, and leads to the speculation that Pinky is a female.

Some people claim that it has a rare genetic disorder, and not albinism. That isn t
proved. Others say that it is an Amazon River Dolphin, but its skin is smooth and
splotch free, unlike the Amazon River Dolphin. Albinism is rare in animals, but
possible. It occurs when the cells responsible of making the pigment melanin fail
to produce enough, or at all. This is usually because of a deformation in a gene(s).
Pinky s dolphin might have both been normal, gray bottlenose dolphins, but each
carrying a gene with this deformation, and that probably led to Pinky s unusual
colour. This isn t the first time an albino dolphin was sighted. Carolina Snowball
was a popular albino bottlenose dolphin displayed at the Miami Seaquarium in the
early 1960 s. During the summer of 1994 in Little Lake near New Orleans,
Louisiana an all white dolphin was spotted in a group of 4 5 individuals, but was
only seen for 20 to 30 minutes and never seen again. Another all white dolphin calf
was first observed in a group of more than 40 dolphins south of Galveston, Texas in
September 2003. Albinism in marine animals is extremely rare; there have been only
14 recorded sightings of albino bottlenose dolphins since

Disadvantages Of Conflict
Conflicts and arguments are part of our daily lives and we deal with them in our
own ways. Usually conflicts arise between two or more individuals, organizations or
even nations and the scope of every conflict is to find a solution to the disagreement
that was created between the parties. Each disagreement may have a different nature,

Causes Of Haiti Earthquake
Despite the fact that the 2010 Haiti Earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0, it caused
316000 deaths, destroyed over 105000 buildings and left the whole country in rubble.
Human contribution contributed greatly to the casualties and the severity of the
earthquake.
A social factor that influenced the severity of the earthquake was where people chose
to live. Haiti is located on fault lines, where the epicentre of the earthquake is and
where the earthquake is most severe. The earthquake s epicentre was estimated to be
around a mere 25 km away from the Port au prince, the capital of Haiti and home to
Вј of the population. The closer the area was to the epicentre, the more intense the
earthquake was and the greater the destruction. The area was also urbanised with
many buildings, due to the great number of people who resided there which meant
that many buildings were destroyed and many people were killed.
Poverty was an economic factor that greatly influenced how the earthquake affected
the population. In Haiti, 80% of the population was under the poverty line. в…” of
Labor force employees relied on agriculture and due to high unemployment levels,
many did not have a job and the population owned an average of under $2 a day.
During the earthquake, Haiti s agricultural industries were destroyed, leaving most of
the county unemployed and unable to produce its main exports. This further
exacerbated the problem of poverty and left the population without resources, food
and water.

He further states that this type of learning procedure is more reassuring for children
who wants to know what is taking place in an activity, task or routine.
Consequently, research carried out by Ahissar, (2004) has also suggested that many
children learn better when they have pictures to help them. This is as a lot of
children are visual learners, which means they learn by seeing things rather than
listening. This resource hence assists children who may suffer from anxiety which is
mostly due to them being new to the setting or them not being able to understand
routines. Lewalter, (2003) has stated that a visual routine is required as many
children learn better when they are supported with photographic images, this is as
they tend to mainly be visual learners. Therefore, visual routine can maximise a child
s strengths to develop in areas that they find more difficult.
This resource as a result links to the Early Years Foundation Stage, (EYFS) (2008).

Extend Fertility offered storage services to their clients by partnering with a secure

potential customers via its programs and activities. Extend Fertility generate profit
from egg freezing product, license, and consumers service fee and payment from
fertility clinics. The company collected ongoing storage fee and about 40% of the
total cost of the procedure. The rest of money would split between medical clinics
and pharmaceutical. Christy expected 80% gross margin on the services provided by
the company.
The business plan with such high gross margin seems quite favorable. However, the
company s concept has some potential problems. The company did not mention how
to minimize the risk of hurting women s health when they proceeded to collect their

James E. Porter’s Idea of Originality in
Intertextuality...
Since I arrived in the United States one of the first concepts that was introduced to
me was the concept of plagiarism and the severity of its consequences. Since that
moment I see myself focusing much more on paraphrasing and not committing
plagiarism than the quality of the ideas that I am writing. However, I have noted
that most of my ideas and opinions are probably based on somebody else s work I
might have read before. Therefore, is it not plagiarism? In the article Intertextuality
and the Discourse Community, James E. Porter challenges the ideaof what plagiarism
truly is. He states that it is almost impossible to write without committing some sort
of plagiarism. Instead, Porter introduces the concept of intertextuality, which he...

What he describes as originality is to take somebody else s ideas and create new
perspectives and opinions based on those points of view. In other words, Porter
suggests that creativity is a matter of interpretation and that anything we write is the
result of what we interpret when we read. That is why taking other s ideas to draw
knew opinions should not be called plagiarism because inevitable all writing contains
some sort of intertextuality. One can say that intertextuality is necessary for a writer
to have a better understanding of what they read. As an international student
myself, paraphrasing is one of the aspects that turns writing into a nightmare for
me. Since my vocabulary is somewhat reduced, I have to focus more on making my
sentences look as different as possible to the original texts. I was so scared of
committing plagiarism that I did not even consider the aspect of using the author s
ideas and creating my own opinions. Instead I preferred to follow the norm and
paraphrase as much as possible. Sometimes I felt my professors paid much more
attention to what I might have plagiarized rather than the quality of my own ideas.
That is why writing turned into a systematic process in which I would only have to
know how to rephrase sentences and I would be fine. In the moment I read Porter s

The Meaning Of Luther s Ideas Through The Eyes Of
Others
The Meaning of Luther s Ideas through the Eyes of Others Martin Luther s
religious ideas created an eclectic mix of responses dealing with social power and
influence in society. Many people reinvented Luther s ideologies to fit their wants
and goals. This in turn influenced peasants to strive for social justice, the Pope to be
on the defensive to maintain authority, and world leaders like Charles V to use the
reaction of the Pope for personal gain. The life of the peasantry during the 16th
century in Europe was to say the least unpleasant. They were impoverished, hungry,
and oppressed. So, when Martin Lutherstarted the Protestant Reformationwith ideas

This quote emphasizes the idea of freedom for all Christians and the fact that their
oppression is not coming from the work of God also known as scripture. Instead, it
is coming from greedy people who are taking advantage of others. These people are
not embracing God s truths according to the peasantry.
As well as the general oppression the peasantry faced while being considered
second class citizens, they were forced to pay more taxes due to their social status.
For example, when we look at this next quote we see the peasantry complaining
about the unjust land taxes they are forced to pay. Provision should also be made
from this surplus to avoid laying any land tax on the poor. In case one or more

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities And

Try to remember your first day at school. Generally, teachers cannot even remember
the name of any one of their students. Now, how exactly are they supposed to
remember all of their 120 students personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most
students believe that teachers should account for their extracurricular activities and
personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible. Obviously, for
students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but
developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn
to do as they continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their
curriculum around student responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and
extracurricular activities students take part in. According to Dunbar s Number, we as
people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that number is the
maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West
Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to
125 students per year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at
remembering even 125 names, let alone their complex personal lives. Teachers, along
with their students names, would have to remember their students personal lives and
then go on to create a curriculum based around those numerous activities. Obviously,
most teachers would find that unreasonable. Therefore, it is more than clear teachers
An Investigation into Related Job Stress and Job Satisfaction

investigate the relation between job satisfaction and job stress among teachers.
According to French Caplan (1972) job stress is as a result of a misfit between an
individual and their environment.
Research topic: An investigation into related job stress and job satisfaction
Job Stress Among Teachers
Related job stress and job satisfaction have been a topic researched by several
scholars and now by me. The issue of stress in the teaching profession as caused a
serious concern for both faculty and administrators (Schuster, 1986). The increasing
stress have been creating profound impact on female teachers (Lease, 1999), and new
faculty members (Oslen, 1993). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some researchers have also attributed poor behavior of students as a significant
contributor to the daily stress teachers face (Geving, 2007). When one think of
teaching one can also think of it as a stressful occupation that many present teachers
are quitting more than ever (Smith, 2006).
Mastery of task management skills have been found as a critically component that
new teachers take a while to grasp which in turn fosters a recipe for stress (Brown,
2005). Researchers like Cox (2007) have found weak administrations and school
violence as a major factor which lead to overwhelming stress and departure of many
teachers. This finding was also supported by Smith (2006). Smith s findings indicated
that teaches are stressed because they don t feel safe in the environment in which they
are expected to spend most of their lives. As job commitment increase the level of
potential stress decreases (Forrest, 2006). Nevertheless, if there is a low level of
commitment then the possibility of being stressed will increase. Researches like
Maslach and Jackson (1996) have intended to three major factors that contributes to
teachers being burnout. These factors are subjective accomplishments, emotional
exhaustion and depersonalization.
Job Satisfaction Among Teachers
There have been several investigations to create an understanding between job

Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting
Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that
are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with
a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster
mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right
thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast
remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its
commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production,
many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces,
dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another
asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip
casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of
high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that
lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting
process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results,
results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays,
non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A
deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Less
water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On the other hand, a
Absolute Monarchy In The 17th Century Essay
Absolute Monarchy during the 17th Century During the seventeenth century, France
and England experienced many conflicts that resulted in public unrest. Absolute
monarchy was the solution to maintain order in society. Absolute monarchy allows a
king to have complete authority to rule the state by divine right. Under absolute
monarchy, the king has full power in all parts of the sate and parliament. Kings
must be in control of all power and this power must not be shared to be successful
under absolute monarchy. In France, Louis XIV was the most successful absolute
monarch due to his stature and powerful involvement in the state. In England, an
effort was made by James I to control the state via absolute monarchy, but this was
unsuccessful as the parliament in England was already too powerful. Power and the
ability to command ministers play a crucial role in the success of an absolute
monarch. To be a great monarch, one must work for the state and for the people. As
Louis XIV said, I am the state , meaning that he controls the state and without him a
state does not exist. In general an absolute monarch must be aware of all activities
that take place in the state. He shall be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Spine Deprivation
Sleep is considered to be one of the most important processes that living organisms
do, but there is a lot that remains unknown about its true function in the brain. The
Wen Bio Gan Group conducted a study on the effects of sleep and dendritic spine
formation after motor learning. To study this a motor learning task is needed. The
researchers used a metal rod that mice can stand on, this rod is then able to rotate
forwards or backwards depending on the direction the mouse is walking. The first
experiment was to see if the rotorod training would cause growth of dendritic spines.

The data showed that the NSD mice had a greater performance score than the SD
mice both times. But when both mice were tested again 5 days after training, the
difference in performance was even greater. Showing that sleep deprivation
hinders performance. This is in line what we have learned in class bout how lack
of sleep often results in decreased cognitive function. More specifically how those
who are chronically sleep deprived have decreased performance similar to those
who have not slept at all. The SD mice were chronically sleep deprived and thus
more prone to making mistakes. This is similar to the data that was present in
class on how the chances of medical errors increase when working re current 24
hour shifts. A problem that I have with this paper is with the imaging of the
dendritic branches. In none of the experiments was any imaging done post training
to see any immediate effects. This would also enable them to better see the effect
of sleep on the mice by isolating any changes that came bout during the initial
imaging. What also should have been done is imaging of the dendrites half way
through the allotted sleep time. This would allow the researchers to see how
immediate sleep effects spine growth to determine if a full a 8 hours are required
and how spine formation rates may change as sleep

A Byzantine Fault
Introduction
Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that
presents different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These
Byzantine faults form the reason for the loss of a system service and are called
Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to arbitrary problems like
corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing
requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The
ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault
tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance.
A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is
the Byzantine Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by
the people who are unfamiliar with the problem. It brings down the entire network if
not tackled properly. This problem is most common in distributed dependable
network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals problem and
providing a possible solution to that problem.
My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems
in various fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization
and graphics, economics and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems.
Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of resources, time and money. Thus
protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task
The Story of Maurice White and Earth Wind and Fire
The reason I decided to prepared my paper on Maurice White, the founder of Earth
Wind and Fire is because of the fond memories that I have listening to my parents
music. Music from the parents era is very different from the music of today. Music
from that era was more love oriented, rhythmic and rich in science of musicand
musical arrangements. Artists my parents are fond of consists of music from such
groups as the Four Tops, the Dells, the Dramatics, Harold Melvin and the Blue
Notes, the Chi Lites and Stylistics. They also list Junior Walker and the All stars, Al
Jaureau, and Ronnie Laws, among others, as jazz groups. However, Earth Wind and

kingdom he left to his generals has begun to fracture. Around 300 B.C.E the Punic

The Law of the Lever is one of Archimedes more prestigious discoveries. When he
made his discovery the fulcrum was already in use. However Archimedes was the
first to discover that a longer lever made lifting easier. Storys say that Archimedes
once said, Give me a lever and a place to stand, and I will move the world. Another
extremely important innovation by Archimedes was the pulley. He created a
complex system of pulleys that allowed him to lift almost anything. Another story
says that a team of men, after great effort dragged a trireme onto the beach. The
men all boarded the ship along with their animals and Archimedes was able to lift
the ship and move it easily by himself. The Archimedes Screw was another
impressive invention by Archimedes. The screw is massive and capable of lifting
water from the ground. It is still used today in some third world countries.Other
inventions by Archimedes included, the concept of buoyancy. He proved that, when
building boats, the material does not matter so much as how spread out it is.
Archimedes was also the first person to accurately estimate the value of pi. These are
only a few of Archimedes most prestigious achievements. As previously stated, many

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Villas
What is a villa?
Villas originated in Italy. They used to be the country houses of the city dwellers who
wanted to unwind amid peaceful surroundings at different time of the year. Many of
the Italian villas still fulfil similar needs. Ironically though, their popularity is no

How Did Clara Barton Influence The American Red Cross
Imagine this, you re driving in your car, then all the sudden someone crashes into
you and you are fatally wounded and bleeding out slowly. The paramedics take you
to the hospital for treatment, but there is one problem; there is no blood to give
you to make up for how much you have lost.Without programs like the Red Cross a
lot of people wouldn t be here. This organization saves millions of lives every year.
The Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton, a life saving nurse in the civil war,the

White With Powder
Ashella had dutifully helped Brietta and Edana get into their dresses for that
evening s festivities. Many times throughout the process she had to force herself
not to giggle as her stepsisters asked for increasingly ridiculous elements to be
added to their look. She had plucked their hairlines to give them a more prominent
forehead. This of course, had led to much whining and scolding from the two as they
believed she was hurting them on purpose. They had acted like babies, but Ashella
certainly didn t say that out load to them at the time. When it came to dressing them,
she put them in high collared gaudy dresses with low cut necklines and fur lining the
trim. Jewels decorated the fabric of each, revealing how they tried desperately to
show off their wealth, despite their motheractually having spent much of her parent
s money years ago. On their orders, she had painted their faces pure white with
powder and had even been ordered to do so with their bust. It was quite an
appalling process for her to say the least. By the time she was done, her stepsisters
looked horrible with their gaudy dresses and hair styles that did nothing to soften the
lookof their pale faces and dark red lips. Their style appalled Ashella, but then again,
they adhered to the idea of beauty that said showing off wealth was just as good as
actually being beautiful. Needless to say she was happy when they made their way
outside to the coach with their mother. The elder woman said,
The Rising Costs Of Higher Education
There is no doubt that pricing of higher education has increased, changing the
number and groups of people that are able to receive it, often being those with a
high socioeconomic status. The rising costs of many colleges cause many people to
wonder whether or not a pricier education really results in a better life (including
better/more job opportunities in the area studied). As a result, many prospective
American students are examining alternatives in hopes of reducing their debt load.
One of the ways in which they are attempting to do so is by pursuing a degree from
an institution in another country. The trends within education has changed a lot,
increasing prices, and increasing demand. There is much controversy over whether or
not students seeking further education should increase their debt load from a tens of
thousands of dollars, to hundreds, for a well known collegename and degree. Post
World War II, schools in America during the 1950s were suffering with teacher and
building shortages due to increased enrollment. With increasing demand, that also
meant that there were more things that could be influenced, especially by the
government. In the 1960s, the shortage continued, including a lot of desegregation
with both K 12 schools, and colleges. The call for more schools resulted in the
opening of community colleges; institutions that are primarily focused on students
from a particular area, often associated with a lower price tag than Ivy Leagues or

Changes And Effects Of The Hundred Years War
The Hundred Years War is the seventh longest war in history lasting one hundred
and sixteen years in which there were 3.5 million deaths. The Hundred Years War
was between France and England from 1337 to 1453 over the succession to the
French throne. When Charles IV of France died without sons in 1328, his closest
male relative was King Edward III of England. Isabella of France claimed the French
throne for her son, but the French rejected it. Philip of Valois, first cousin of Charles
IV, succeeded the throne as King Philip VI of France. For about nine years the English
had accepted the Valois succession to the French throne but finally they rejected it
and Edward III claimed the throne. Englandpoured all of its resources and manpower

There were many different weapons, some old behind established and some new
and created by the kingdoms. The creation of the longbow changed the course of
the war, giving a distinct advantage to the English. This weapon was utilized to its
full potential because it changed the feudal armies to small archery based troops.
There were also developments of other weapons that the English and French did
not create but used the weapons for the first time in the location. The effect
changed the way they traded and with whom they traded. New places began to
trade with France and England so they were exposed to different cultures and
societies. France and England took these new weapons and made advancements to
them like adding a spear to the end of the gun or creating stronger bullets.21 New
believes began to develop throughout France and England including the belief of
nationalism throughout the society. This new belief changed society drastically and
made for a strong and powerful monarch in both France and England. Because of
these new believes army sizes grew which in turn caused more deaths but also
increased manpower for the king. These believes solved the crisis because the king
needed troops and the commoners needed money. It also caused France and England
to believe that their country was superior to all others and therefore more powerful
Essay Implementing Safe Design in Construction
Introduction
In the United States, construction has always been one of the most dangerous
industries to work in. The number of fatalities that occur in this industry year after
year demonstrate this. In 2014, 19.6% of worker fatalities, in private industry, were in
construction (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015) despite the industry comprising only
6.8% of the total work force. This epidemic is not unique to the United States.
Essentially every country faces similar problems regarding construction safety. For
example, in 2004 the Australian construction industry employed approximately 8% of
the countries workforce. However, workers compensation statistics indicated that the
industry s incidence rate was 28.6 per 1000 employees, ... Show more content on

Safe design is the process of identifying, assessing, and eliminating hazards or
potential risks that may occur in the workplace during construction or the life cycle of
a designed product (Breslin, 2007). Designers have not traditionally addressed safety
in their design and are often unaware of how their design impacts safety, yet research
has shown that in construction project management, many safety risks may be
eliminated or mitigated and opportunities seized at the design stage if proper analysis
and assessment is carried out (Zou et al, 2008). Countries around the world have
realized this to be true and numerous countries have passed regulation placing some
of the safety burden on designers. This paper reviews the literature on the design and
implementation of safe design techniques and programs in the construction industry.
Why safe design?
Many times, risks faced by contractors exist at no fault of their own. That is, in some
cases the contractor is bound by a design that places specific hazards on the
construction site. Designers who are cognizant of and responsive to their effort on
construction safety would aid in making jobsites safer for construction workers
(Gambatese et al, 1997). Situations such as these led the National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health to create a safe design concept, prevention through
design. Prevention
Evolution Of Zombies
Zombies are becoming an increasingly popular component of movie culture and are
one of the most commonly spoken and written about fictional creatures.
Consequently, zombies are often portrayed as mindless, violent creatures with a
demand for human flesh. In each text their distinct features can differ, but there are
many common ways their origins are described. Some of these are:
Reanimating corpses by magic
Parasites that take over a human host
Neurogenesis techniques involving stem cells to regrow dead brains
Self replicating nanobots that live after a human host has died
A virus that can spread from person to person

I still expect the human population to become 0, because there is still no supply of
humans, they just die, or become zombies. However, it will take much longer for
them to disappear. This is best demonstrated when comparing the alive population
after 30 weeks with and without the improved strategy. We find that with the
improved fighting there are more than 20 times as many people alive after 30 weeks.

Julius Caesar and Yitzhak Rabin
History, it either repeats itself or we learn and grow from the mistakes of others.
In history we had not so great men and we had more than great men, the way they
thought, their actions, and their war tactics shaped the modern day leaders. The
peace maker, and the king among kings share a lot of things in history like war and
peace, home life, and love lives. In this essay I will be talking about Julius Caesar and
Yitzhak Rabin lives in history and comparing these two great leaders in history.
It is hard to say when Julius Caesar was born, but it is estimated that he was born
July 12 or 13, 100 BC. His family are far from rich, He is the son of Gaius Caesar
and Aurelia Caesar, however his father died when he was 16 so he stayed very
close to his mother. Caesar married a nobleman s daughter name Cornelia, they
both had a daughter, Julia Caesaris, but sadly Cornelia died in 69 BC. Two years
later he marries the granddaughter of the dictator Sulla, Pompeia, they were
married for five years before they were divorce. He married for the final time to a
young lady, Calpurnia, whom will stay with him till the end, even though he had
numerous mistresses including Cleopatra VII, whom she had a baster son name
Caesarion. Raging with anger, the dictator Sulla demanded that Caesar either
divorced or loss all his land, he instead joined the military. Before Sulla died,
Caesar and a couple of his closest friends convince him to let Caesar back into
Rome. Caesar rose to power, others got jealous and even one of the leaders were not
fully over his enemy, however Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Pompey became
known as the First Triumvirate. Once again Caesar shows his abilities as someone
who can negotiate and unit people together. Soon after however Pompey grew more
and more jealous of his partner, while Crassus never got over his disdain for Pompey.
All three patch things up for a little while in 56 BC in Luca, Caesar already ruled a
territorial and extended for another five years, gave Crassus a five year term in Syria
and gave Spain to Pompey for Five years as well. Three years later Crassus was killed
in a terrible battle in Syria, at the same
Epic Of Gilgamesh Historical Flood
Perhaps you may be familiar with the flood story of Genesis but not the flood that
occurs in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In both stories, a very important historical flood
happens. Both share multiple differences and similarities while describing the
flood in different ways. The Flood story in Genesis is way more believable. The
world is more likely to flood if it rains forty days and forty nights than it raining for
six days and six nights.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh it tells a story about a young man named Gilgamesh. He is
the king of Uruk that appeared to be two thirds divine and one third human. Yet, he
was very vicious with an overbearing behavior. This story takes you on a journey as
you read it leading Gilgamesh to finding out his true self. The gods created a man
named Enkidu hoping to distract Gilgamesh. When Gilgamesh figures this out ...

Gilgamesh and Enkidu get into a brawl. They both become best friends after the
battle. With both Enkidu and Gilgamesh wanting to win fame they take part in
harmful adventures which leads to Enkidu being killed. With Gilgamesh fearing
death, he then decides to find immortality and finds Utnapishtim. Utnapishtim then
tells Gilgamesh the story of the flood. Enlil, the god of winds, calls for a flood that
will kill all mankind. Ea, the god of wisdom and magic, tells Utnapishtim in a
dream, O Man of Shuruppak, son of Ubar Tutu, Wreck house, build boat, Forsake
possessions and seek life, Belongings reject and save life! Take aboard the boat
seed of all living things. The boat you shall build, let her dimensions be measured
out: let her width be equal, roof her over like the watery depths (Pg.81 lines 24 31).
To emphasize, Utnapishtim need to tear down his house and build a boat that will
save living creatures and the boat should be equal length with a roof. According to
the text Utnapishtim build the boat, One full acre was her deck
Reflective Journal Number Two Essay
Reflective Journal Number Two
I am going to look back at a situation on my unit in the operating room (OR) where I
implemented a change using some of the distinguishing characteristics authentic
leaders posses according to Maria Shirey in 2006. I have worked in the OR for 13
years and have witnessed many changes take place, both good and bad. Our
situation was unique because staffing coverage must be 24 hours due to our level 1
trauma status. The RN s brought forward the current system used for scheduling
during holidays was unfair with no apparent pattern. It was very random with many
of the same RN s working the majority of the holidays. Nurses comments ranged
from, Why am I always on the major holidays, I never get to spend the holidays with
my family, and the same people are getting the holidays off, why is that?
Management overlooked the fairness for covering the schedule. Holiday coverage is
reduced to two teams and a charge nurse which consists of five staff members,
allowing more staff to be off. Everything was status quo to management until it was
mentioned at a staff meeting with much dissatisfaction.
I was asked by my manager to lead a committee of RN s. She chose the staff to
participate on this committee. The goal was to propose a new system for holiday
scheduling that was fair and systematic. My leader was empowering her staff to
make positive changes; she was encouraging creativity by motivating her followers
(Grossman Valiga, 2013).
Why Philosophy Is Still Necessary
As I was attempting to brain storm for this assignment, I ran out of ideas so I
decided to read the prompt again and again for inspiration and hopefully some new
ideas. That is when I realized that the prompt itself had the answer that I was looking
for. My answer was sitting there waiting for me in the last sentence of the prompt,
The questionwhether Philosophy is still necessary or not remains an intriguing
question, triggering different position. Philosophy is still necessary in our modern
and scientific world today because Philosophy is the intriguing question that is
triggered by several events in different positions in our daily lives. In our fast
paced world today, people sometimes tend to want answers all the time without
even having to ask questions and unfortunately, technology, media and social
media have made that possible. If we are to agree to define Philosophy as the
questioning of ourselves and our surroundings in order to acquire knowledge, we
would come to realize that without Philosophy we would be living a clueless life.
If it was not for Philosophy and the concept of asking questions, then Isaac Newton
would have walked away from that tree to see a doctor because an apple fell on his
head. However, he started questioning why the apple fell and going after what had
made the apple move in the first place. Now one might argue that if it was not for
science, we will never have the correct answers, thus they give science more value
and cherish it more.

What are the differences between the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union s level of integration?(2 pages maximum) Regional economic integration represents agreements between countries in a geographic region to reduce tariff and non tariff barriers to the free flow of goods, services and factors of production between each other. Neighboring countries tend to ally because of their proximity to one another, somewhat similar regional tastes, the relative ease of establishing channels of distribution and a willingness to cooperate with one another for the greater benefit of all allied parties. Customs Union eliminates trade barriers between member countries and adopts a common external trade policy. Custom union provides for economic cooperation as in a free trade zone. The primary difference between customs union and free trade area involves members agreeing to treat trade with non members countries in a similar manner. Most countries who enter a customs union often desire further integration in the future. For example, the Andean Pact (for agreements between Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru). Common Market allows for the creation of economically integrated markets between member countries. Trade barriers are removed, as are any restrictions on the movement of labor and capital between member countries. Like customs union, there is a common trade policy for trade with non member nations. The primary advantage of common markets is workers are no longer needing visa or work permit to work in another member country of a common market. For example, The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or simply known as COMESA. Economic Union occurs when countries enter into an economic agreement to remove barriers to trade and adopt common economic policies. European Union or simply known as the EU is an example of economic union. The European Union or simply known as the EU is often viewed as an emerging

  • 6. Summary Of Farming Of The Bones By Edwidge Danticat Representations of War and Genocide Edwidge Danticat s Farming of the Bones portrays genocide and massacre in a number of ways. This essay concentrates on reasons why in history, the Parsley massacre is not known as genocide but rather a massacre. Massacre is defined as the act of mass murdering of people because of a variety of reasons; it is indiscriminately killing of a large number of people and especially the less powerful, less power and those that are not rebellious. Massacre can also be referred as an act of destruction where not only people are slaughtered by their properties are destroyed as well. Genocide is an act of killing people from a certain ethnic group or discriminatory killing of people. Therefore, in History, Parsley massacre is called massacre because Parsley was about mass murdering of helpless and less fortunate people due to a number of reasons. The author of The Farming Bones, Danticat combines history and fictions to represent war and genocide. This book relates to the historical fiction that focuses on 1937 massacre that took place in the Dominican Republic under the ruling of dictator, Rafael Trujillo (Upchurch). In this case, the intention of the author is to use both fiction and history to enable them to understand the novel and its themes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equality Can Be Measured And Measure Equality Equality can be measured through various measures to understand the magnitude or scale of it social scientists use various techniques to examine and deduce the level of equality. The level of equality varies drastically across the globe, in one of the most unequal societies in generations. According to equality human rights (slide 9 equality see slide on link) equality can be seen as the ideology that each individual has an equal ability to fulfil their ambitions in life and the notion that no one individual should be worse off due to their location of birth, belivefs or disability. Equality can be categorised and analysed through many ways such as health, wellbeing and happiness. In the UK, the equality act protects citizens via the equality act 2010. If a person has been discriminated they have enough leverage and protection from the state to be able to take an individual or firm to court or tribunals. On the face of it in a general sense equality understand that due to historical circumstances specific people in society with certain charwectersitcs are statistically more likely to experience discrimination both in life and in the workplace with race and disability especially. However measuring equality can be largely more complicated and intrinsic. Many methods have been developed to examine and measure the level of equality. In my essay I will be questioning whether wellbeing is actually a good measure of equality and be examining how wellbeing can be measured and

Why The Reliefs On The Ara Pacis For Matrix Cell 1 The Ara Pacis and the Idealization of Power in the Age of Augustus I am choosing to focus on the imperial portrait reliefs from the Ara Pacis for matrix cell 1 because this monument combines politics, religion and social values. The Ara Pacis Augustae epitomizes the Mos Maiorum, the visual manifestation of Roman virtues and laws. This paper will explain why the reliefs on the Ara Pacis can be considered political propaganda. Furthermore, I will analyze how the art in this monument exhibits the importance of civic piety in Roman politics. The construction of the Ara Pacis was commissioned by the Senate on the 4th of July in13 BC to celebrate the triumphant return of Augustus from his campaigns in Iberia and Gaul after three years of absence. During this time he was forging alliances and organizing the southern provinces of Gaul that would insure the prosperity of Rome. The construction of this monument marks a great period of peace inaugurated by Augustus after a series of political upheavals that scourged Rome following the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC and which lasted until the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. For the first time since Rome began to build her empire, the provinces flourished within the context of the Pax Romana . The reliefs of the Ara Pacis are divided between allegorical and historical panels on the upper register, while the lower register is decorated with acanthus scrolls that symbolize control over nature. The reliefs of the northern and
  • 10. Faith In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi C.S. Lewis once described faith as the art of holding onto things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods. This concept of faith is repeatedly tested throughout Yann Martel s novel, The Life of Pi. The book follows the life of Piscine Patel, or Pi for short, and begins with his exploration of faith through multiple religions in his hometown of Pondicherry, India, and later delves into his arduous journey of being stranded at sea with a 420 pound Bengal tiger for 227 days. From his time in Pondicherry to the end of his seemingly ceaseless time at sea, he is faced with many troublesome dilemmas and life threatening situations, all of which try the vitality of his faith and his will to live. Through the story of Pi s life, Martel shows that, although being faced with doubt is inevitable, one must choose to overcome it with faith because constantly searching for proof to settle doubt is a hindrance to the quality of one s life. Martel suggests that one must overcome doubt with faith because it helps the ability to see the better stories of life, rather than continuously searching for similar, drier, stories based on more convincing factual elements. In this dynamic society, the choice of doubt or faith will always be there, but it is up to the people to choose the better

Analysis Of Chronicle Of A Death Foretold The Power Struggle for Women in Chronicle of a Death Foretold Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a narrative that retells the events leading up to the death of Santiago Nasar. Throughout the novella, there are many instances in which a man is in a place of power, however, the female characters often are not given this opportunity. Power can be defined as having the ability to stand up for yourself or others, make your own decisions, and having an important role in society. It is the sole characteristic that differentiates men from women in Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Despite the few instances where women are placed in positions of power, Gabriel Garcia Marquez effectively proves that women are depicted as powerless through the use of machismo throughout the story, integrating Colombian gender roles into the novella and causing women to face many more challenges compared to men. The novella successfully integrates all three of these aspects to portray women as powerless. There are minimal instances in which women are placed in positions of power throughout this novella. However, there is one main example where this occurs. This occurs very early in the novella, when Santiago Nasar is with Victoria Guzman and her daughter, Divina Flor. Santiago decides that the time has come for her to be tamed, (Marquez, p. 9) and as soon as he does this, he is threatened by Victoria. She points a knife at him and declares that he let go of her, (9). This immediate defensiveness and

  • 24. James E. Porter’s Idea of Originality in Intertextuality... Since I arrived in the United States one of the first concepts that was introduced to me was the concept of plagiarism and the severity of its consequences. Since that moment I see myself focusing much more on paraphrasing and not committing plagiarism than the quality of the ideas that I am writing. However, I have noted that most of my ideas and opinions are probably based on somebody else s work I might have read before. Therefore, is it not plagiarism? In the article Intertextuality and the Discourse Community, James E. Porter challenges the ideaof what plagiarism truly is. He states that it is almost impossible to write without committing some sort of plagiarism. Instead, Porter introduces the concept of intertextuality, which he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What he describes as originality is to take somebody else s ideas and create new perspectives and opinions based on those points of view. In other words, Porter suggests that creativity is a matter of interpretation and that anything we write is the result of what we interpret when we read. That is why taking other s ideas to draw knew opinions should not be called plagiarism because inevitable all writing contains some sort of intertextuality. One can say that intertextuality is necessary for a writer to have a better understanding of what they read. As an international student myself, paraphrasing is one of the aspects that turns writing into a nightmare for me. Since my vocabulary is somewhat reduced, I have to focus more on making my sentences look as different as possible to the original texts. I was so scared of committing plagiarism that I did not even consider the aspect of using the author s ideas and creating my own opinions. Instead I preferred to follow the norm and paraphrase as much as possible. Sometimes I felt my professors paid much more attention to what I might have plagiarized rather than the quality of my own ideas. That is why writing turned into a systematic process in which I would only have to know how to rephrase sentences and I would be fine. In the moment I read Porter s essay I thought it was contradictory to all

The Meaning Of Luther s Ideas Through The Eyes Of Others The Meaning of Luther s Ideas through the Eyes of Others Martin Luther s religious ideas created an eclectic mix of responses dealing with social power and influence in society. Many people reinvented Luther s ideologies to fit their wants and goals. This in turn influenced peasants to strive for social justice, the Pope to be on the defensive to maintain authority, and world leaders like Charles V to use the reaction of the Pope for personal gain. The life of the peasantry during the 16th century in Europe was to say the least unpleasant. They were impoverished, hungry, and oppressed. Now, how exactly are they supposed to remember all of their 120 students personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most students believe that teachers should account for their extracurricular activities and personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible. Obviously, for students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn to do as they continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their curriculum around student responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and extracurricular activities students take part in. According to Dunbar s Number, we as people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that number is the maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to 125 students per year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at remembering even 125 names, let alone their complex personal lives. Teachers, along with their students names, would have to remember their students personal lives and then go on to create a curriculum based around those numerous activities. Obviously, most teachers would find that unreasonable. Therefore, it is more than clear teachers

The issue of stress in the teaching profession as caused a serious concern for both faculty and administrators (Schuster, 1986). Some researchers have also attributed poor behavior of students as a significant contributor to the daily stress teachers face (Geving, 2007). When one think of teaching one can also think of it as a stressful occupation that many present teachers are quitting more than ever (Smith, 2006). Mastery of task management skills have been found as a critically component that new teachers take a while to grasp which in turn fosters a recipe for stress (Brown, 2005). Researchers like Cox (2007) have found weak administrations and school violence as a major factor which lead to overwhelming stress and departure of many teachers. This finding was also supported by Smith (2006). Smith s findings indicated that teaches are stressed because they don t feel safe in the environment in which they are expected to spend most of their lives. As job commitment increase the level of potential stress decreases (Forrest, 2006). Nevertheless, if there is a low level of commitment then the possibility of being stressed will increase. Researches like Maslach and Jackson (1996) have intended to three major factors that contributes to teachers being burnout. These factors are subjective accomplishments, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. • 29. Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production, many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Absolute Monarchy In The 17th Century Essay Absolute Monarchy during the 17th Century During the seventeenth century, France and England experienced many conflicts that resulted in public unrest. Absolute monarchy was the solution to maintain order in society. Absolute monarchy allows a king to have complete authority to rule the state by divine right. Under absolute monarchy, the king has full power in all parts of the sate and parliament. Kings must be in control of all power and this power must not be shared to be successful under absolute monarchy. In France, Louis XIV was the most successful absolute monarch due to his stature and powerful involvement in the state. In England, an effort was made by James I to control the state via absolute monarchy, but this was unsuccessful as the parliament in England was already too powerful. Power and the ability to command ministers play a crucial role in the success of an absolute monarch. To be a great monarch, one must work for the state and for the people. The Wen Bio Gan Group conducted a study on the effects of sleep and dendritic spine formation after motor learning. To study this a motor learning task is needed. The researchers used a metal rod that mice can stand on, this rod is then able to rotate forwards or backwards depending on the direction the mouse is walking. The first experiment was to see if the rotorod training would cause growth of dendritic spines. But when both mice were tested again 5 days after training, the difference in performance was even greater. Showing that sleep deprivation hinders performance. More specifically how those who are chronically sleep deprived have decreased performance similar to those who have not slept at all. The SD mice were chronically sleep deprived and thus more prone to making mistakes. This is similar to the data that was present in class on how the chances of medical errors increase when working re current 24 hour shifts. A problem that I have with this paper is with the imaging of the dendritic branches. In none of the experiments was any imaging done post training to see any immediate effects. This would also enable them to better see the effect of sleep on the mice by isolating any changes that came bout during the initial imaging. What also should have been done is imaging of the dendrites half way through the allotted sleep time. This would allow the researchers to see how immediate sleep effects spine growth to determine if a full a 8 hours are required and how spine formation rates may change as sleep

A fault that presents different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance. A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals problem and providing a possible solution to that problem. My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task

As a result, many prospective American students are examining alternatives in hopes of reducing their debt load. One of the ways in which they are attempting to do so is by pursuing a degree from an institution in another country. This weapon was utilized to its full potential because it changed the feudal armies to small archery based troops. There were also developments of other weapons that the English and French did not create but used the weapons for the first time in the location. The effect changed the way they traded and with whom they traded. New places began to trade with France and England so they were exposed to different cultures and societies. France and England took these new weapons and made advancements to them like adding a spear to the end of the gun or creating stronger bullets.21 New believes began to develop throughout France and England including the belief of nationalism throughout the society. This new belief changed society drastically and made for a strong and powerful monarch in both France and England. Because of these new believes army sizes grew which in turn caused more deaths but also increased manpower for the king. These believes solved the crisis because the king needed troops and the commoners needed money. It also caused France and England to believe that their country was superior to all others and therefore more powerful
  • 43. Essay Implementing Safe Design in Construction Introduction In the United States, construction has always been one of the most dangerous industries to work in. The number of fatalities that occur in this industry year after year demonstrate this. In 2014, 19.6% of worker fatalities, in private industry, were in construction (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015) despite the industry comprising only 6.8% of the total work force. This epidemic is not unique to the United States. Essentially every country faces similar problems regarding construction safety. For example, in 2004 the Australian construction industry employed approximately 8% of the countries workforce. However, workers compensation statistics indicated that the industry s incidence rate was 28.6 per 1000 employees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Safe design is the process of identifying, assessing, and eliminating hazards or potential risks that may occur in the workplace during construction or the life cycle of a designed product (Breslin, 2007). Designers have not traditionally addressed safety in their design and are often unaware of how their design impacts safety, yet research has shown that in construction project management, many safety risks may be eliminated or mitigated and opportunities seized at the design stage if proper analysis and assessment is carried out (Zou et al, 2008). Countries around the world have realized this to be true and numerous countries have passed regulation placing some of the safety burden on designers. This paper reviews the literature on the design and implementation of safe design techniques and programs in the construction industry. Why safe design? Many times, risks faced by contractors exist at no fault of their own. That is, in some cases the contractor is bound by a design that places specific hazards on the construction site. Designers who are cognizant of and responsive to their effort on construction safety would aid in making jobsites safer for construction workers (Gambatese et al, 1997). Situations such as these led the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to create a safe design concept, prevention through design. Prevention

I still expect the human population to become 0, because there is still no supply of humans, they just die, or become zombies. However, it will take much longer for them to disappear. This is best demonstrated when comparing the alive population after 30 weeks with and without the improved strategy. We find that with the improved fighting there are more than 20 times as many people alive after 30 weeks.

In history we had not so great men and we had more than great men, the way they thought, their actions, and their war tactics shaped the modern day leaders. Reflective Journal Number Two Essay Reflective Journal Number Two I am going to look back at a situation on my unit in the operating room (OR) where I implemented a change using some of the distinguishing characteristics authentic leaders posses according to Maria Shirey in 2006. I have worked in the OR for 13 years and have witnessed many changes take place, both good and bad. Our situation was unique because staffing coverage must be 24 hours due to our level 1 trauma status. The RN s brought forward the current system used for scheduling during holidays was unfair with no apparent pattern. It was very random with many of the same RN s working the majority of the holidays. Nurses comments ranged from, Why am I always on the major holidays, I never get to spend the holidays with my family, and the same people are getting the holidays off, why is that? Management overlooked the fairness for covering the schedule. Holiday coverage is reduced to two teams and a charge nurse which consists of five staff members, allowing more staff to be off. Everything was status quo to management until it was mentioned at a staff meeting with much dissatisfaction. I was asked by my manager to lead a committee of RN s. She chose the staff to participate on this committee. The goal was to propose a new system for holiday scheduling that was fair and systematic. My leader was empowering her staff to make positive changes; she was encouraging creativity by motivating her followers (Grossman Valiga, 2013).
  • 49. Why Philosophy Is Still Necessary As I was attempting to brain storm for this assignment, I ran out of ideas so I decided to read the prompt again and again for inspiration and hopefully some new ideas. That is when I realized that the prompt itself had the answer that I was looking for. My answer was sitting there waiting for me in the last sentence of the prompt, The questionwhether Philosophy is still necessary or not remains an intriguing question, triggering different position. Philosophy is still necessary in our modern and scientific world today because Philosophy is the intriguing question that is triggered by several events in different positions in our daily lives. In our fast paced world today, people sometimes tend to want answers all the time without even having to ask questions and unfortunately, technology, media and social media have made that possible. If we are to agree to define Philosophy as the questioning of ourselves and our surroundings in order to acquire knowledge, we would come to realize that without Philosophy we would be living a clueless life. If it was not for Philosophy and the concept of asking questions, then Isaac Newton would have walked away from that tree to see a doctor because an apple fell on his head. However, he started questioning why the apple fell and going after what had made the apple move in the first place. Now one might argue that if it was not for science, we will never have the correct answers, thus they give science more value and cherish it more.
