Character Analysis Of Gary O s Seventh Grade By Gary Soto
Even though Victor, a 7th grader from the story of Seventh Grade by Gary Soto, is trying to find
his way socially, academically and personally, he is motivated to get his girl but in doing this he
matures and develops. On the first day of seventh grade, Victor s personality is sheepish and shy.
When he was in his math room for his second period, he sat in the back because math was at his
weakest subject. On Victor s way to math class the narrator says After English, Victor had math,
his weakest subject. He sat in the back by the window, hoping that he would not be called on.
Victor understood most of the problems, but some of the stuff looked like the teacher made it
up as she went along. It was confusing, like the inside of a watch. (Soto 4). This illustrates that
Victor is not very good at math and does not want to try harder in math. It is important to notice
that he has not been able to grasp the knowledge of this class and is not willing to catch up. The
moment Victor develops is when Teresa asks if he can tutor her he this sparks that he knew he
did not fail and impressed her in French class. The teacher beamed and said, TrГЁs Bien. Parlez
vous français? Victor didn t know what to say. The teacher wets his lips and asked something
else in French. The room grew silent. Victor felt all eyes staring at him. He tried to bluff his way
out by making noises that sounded French. La me vave me con le grandma, he said uncertainly.

A Report On Fine Chemicals
Fine Chemicals Is API manufacturing returning to Europe? Shannon Bennett of Thomson Reuters
takes a look at the shifts in active ingredient sourcing During the past decade, as manufacturers have
pursued lower costs and a more favourable regulatory environment, API sourcing has expanded
from regulated into less regulated markets. However, sourcing from emerging markets has revealed
a variety of challenges which pharmaceuticals companies are continuously working to overcome.
These challenges, coupled with increasing costs in India and China and demand for specialised
technologies, could steer some companies to return to sourcing their APIs from European suppliers.

The European Generics Association (EGA) recently requested consideration of an EU Bolar
Export Provision. This would allow EU generic drugs companies to develop and manufacture
products specifically for export to the global market without breaching existing EU patent
protection. Such a provision would not only benefit EU companies by levelling the API playing
field but would also facilitate the entry and availability of generic drugs in pharmerging markets,
where the only available option may be more expensive branded drugs. The future of EU API
manufacturing could be influenced by the outcome of other pending initiatives that would require
more from companies in terms of investment in and oversight of suppliers. For example, the
adoption of the EU s Falsified Medicines Directive requires the verification of all finished dose
packs throughout the supply chain, as well as for APIs exported to EU, proving they were produced
within quality specifications equivalent to those in EU. Source: Robert Pollack, Lachman
Consultants Figure 1 GDUFA fees An additional requirement has been proposed which would
require API manufacturers to verify the source of all starting materials, ensuring that they
originated from the facilities claimed by the manufacturer of the starting materials. This could help
EU manufacturers, as sourcing from European companies would require less paperwork and
oversight than sourcing from India and China. Additionally, European companies may choose

Preparation of Pure Diphenyl
Experiment 2Date: 24 January 2006
Title:Crystallization of a Crude Sample
Objective:Preparation of pure diphenyl via crystallization of crude diphenyl dissolved in ethanol.
Structural Formula of Organic Substances Involved:
DiphenylEthanol
Apparatus:Round bottom flask (100 mL), measuring cylinder (50 mL), conical flask (50 mL), filter
flask, beaker (100 mL), stemless glass funnel, Hirsch funnel, capillary tube, long glass tube, watch
glass, glass vial, water condenser, retort stand, retort clamps, spatula, cork stand, fluted filter paper,
filter paper for Hirsch funnel, electronic weigh, electrothermal heater, oven, aspirator,

The condenser also functions to maintain the temperature throughout the heating process and
thereby maximizing the accuracy of the experimental results. The addition of boiling chips in the
heating process to dissolve the diphenyl serves to minimize the possibility of the occurrence of
bumping, i.e. sudden explosive boiling whereby large bubbles erupt from the heated solution.
Instead, a steady stream of small air bubbles is produced with the addition of the chips.
Subsequently after complete dissolving of the crude diphenyl, an additional 15 mL of ethanol is
added to ensure that all the crude diphenyl is dissolved. A small amount of decolourising charcoal
is added to the solution mixture. The decolourising charcoal serves to remove any impurities in
the mixture, by adsorbing substances responsible for colouration of the solution on its surface via
its activated properties. A small amount is used as the desired product may be adsorbed as well if
a large amount is used instead.
The mixture is filtered via a preheated stemless glass funnel immediately after boiling for 10 15
minutes. This is to prevent any early crystallization of the mixture since its crystallization
temperature is quite low. The use of preheated apparatus for filtration is also to minimize premature
crystallization of the mixture. Filtration of the mixture while it is still hot is to

First Woman Leader of a Muslim Nation
..In pain you shall bring forth children, and you shall be dependent on your husband, and he shall
rule over you. (Genesis 3 v 16.) Religion is almost exclusively to blame for how women are treated
in Islam. Benazir Bhutto lead the movement from believing women would be nothing without men,
to a woman can lead a country and her people. Religion tells us that the womanis created for the
man, and that she shall serve him, treat him as if he was a God. We also learn from the bible
that the single purpose of a woman is continuing on the males lineage. The bible, along with
religion, attempts to destroy the science of birth. Every man born, was born to a woman, and is
almost entirely dependent on the mother for most of their adolescent years. The bible tries to
teach that woman would be nothing without man as the first woman was supposedly born of the
first man, from an extra rib. In a debate with religion, women s rights are almost always ignored,
or even denied from the concept that a woman must serve a man. (Ratcliffe 2012) This is the logic
that is the reason women in Islam, still do not have many rights. These women are perpetuated into
looking as if they carried some right, but when you look at the facts, a woman is not trusted with
most decisions in Islam. Let alone to be responsible for the decisions that are the future of an entire
country. It was not until Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Islam that women had any political
say in the country at all.

Movie Villain Research Paper
First off what does the term movie villain really stand for? The term villain, is pertaining to a
character or event whose evil actions are important to a plot. There are certain views of villains
that can be found in just about every movie. In this paper there will be a list of a few types of
movie villain categories, followed by the choosing of three, then they will be broken down into 3
sub categories. Then two examples will be brought in each subcategory. Ending with the
explanation of how the villains reflect a characteristic of society today. In opening here are a few
categories of some villains in movies; there is the Beast, the Disturbed, the Criminal, the Equal, the
Machine, the Mastermind, and the Bully. The first category that... Show more content on

Beasts can be broken down in a wide variety of views. Although the animal aspect of beast will
be the sub category that will be referenced. animals are covered in many movies as beasts,
fluctuating from animals as small and common as bats. To as big and an unusual as werewolves.
An all time great movie with a extreme beast, is Jaws. Jaws is a movie about a killer white shark
that terrorizes a beach and the men that try to kill it. Here is a breakdown of an instance when
you come across a shark said by the boat captain Quint. Sometimes that shark he looks right into
ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he s got lifeless eyes. Black
eyes. Like a doll s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be living... until he bites ya, and
those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high pitched screaming .
That is kind of a frightening thought. Everyone is a little leery when they see a fin rising out of
the water. The last example of the animal villain is a bit on the unusual side, it was actually
referanced in the example of an unusual animal villain a little prior. The movie is the Wolfman,
hinting at the villain in the title, the villain is a man that turns into a wolf. I believe one of the
most terrifying scenes is where he is sitting in the asylum, tied to the chair. When a group of
men of some authority are trying to exam the villain under the full moon. You can see where
Lawrence Talbert is trying to warn them and they will not listen, then he screams I will kill all of
you! when he is transforming into the petrifying animal. These are both considered by many to be
truly fearsome animals, and rightly so. While it is a little hard to relate animal villains to common
society, you can see many shark attacks on the news and web. As for as werewolves or wolfmen
go, there are stories about dark parts of the forest and ultimately, the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Vegetables
(Best for small land holders)
The cultivation of vegetables out of their normal season under environment controlled conditions is
known as vegetable forcing. It falls under the category of Olericulture which is a branch of
Horticultural sciences. There are two major groups of vegetables, first one is summer vegetables
and second is winter vegetables which are grown in summer and winter respectively. The main
component of environment is temperature which is responsible for this classification. Second thing
is frost sensitiveness. All frost sensitive vegetables are classified in summer vegetables e.g.
Cucumber, Chillies, Cucurbits and Okra. These two components of environment are controlled with
polythene sheets by constructing tunnels with pipes of plastic or iron. Therefore vegetable forcing
is also known as Tunnel Farming .
In Pakistan mostly summer vegetables are cultivated in the tunnels like Tomato, Cucumber and
Chillies. But this technology can be extended to the cultivation of Melons, Water melons and other
horticultural products. In picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its efficiency is about 80 90% which means that there is negligible water loss during cultivation
which ultimately reduces irrigation expenses. Secondly there is no water availability for weeds
germination because water is directly provided to root zone of all plants individually in very
small drops, the soil on the sides of plants will remain without water so the seeds of weeds
cannot grow due to deficiency of water. In this way labor cost reduces due to drip irrigation
method. Thirdly the nutrient or fertilizer application can be done easily and more efficiently by
this method than the flooding method. Fertilizers are mixed with irrigation water in the tank at
controlling unit; it runs with water in the pipes and reaches directly in root zone of plants equally.

cranium of a female paranthropus boisei and gave more insight that there was sexual
dimorphism in this early species. The finding OH 5 was nicknamed the Nutcracker Man, which
was found in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania in 1959 by Mary Leakey. This finding was 1.8 million

that composed of bone fragments such as the ulna, tibia, and femur that gave more information
regarding the post cranial structure of paranthropus boisei. These findings helped prove that
paranthropus boisei was sexually dimorphic, more ruggedly built, showed signed of bipedalism,
and had some aboreal behaviors. After looking at many physical pictures and pictures of their skull,
paranthropus boisei do have resemblance of human characteristics.

The Titanic In The Sea Of Titanic
Introduction The titanic was one of the supreme distinguished, British passenger liners; it was
commissioned by the white star and was manufactured in Harland and Wolff shipyard, which is
situated in Belfast. The manufactures of historic ship started work on the date 31st March
1909. The titanic was an iconic structure, it was the most quickest and most impressive liner
created during that era. After three years passing, the titanic construction had been completed,
the deluxe streamline machine was ready to set sail from Southampton to New York, on board
was many civilians which included stingy millionaires to heartbroken emigrants, all in
searching for a new life in the USA. Whilist the voyage was taking its toll on the fifth day, the
titanic was making an instantaneous progress across the Atlantic Ocean. The commander of the
vessel had set a new course as he had previously heard previous ships, commentary that ice will
be in the titanic path. During the night of Sunday 14th February 1912, temperatures, severely
destabilised, the sky was clear and the sea was calm like a floating river, all these influential
conditions made ice in the sea, difficult to sea in the ocean. At 11:40pm on the same day, a
lookout spotted a gigantic ice berg in the path of barge and he sounded the alarm, the alarm came
too late, as 40 seconds later the iceberg slashing a series of holes on the side of the hull, the titanic
had six section which were meant to be water tight but they were

Problem Statement:
Create 2 formulas, one that will calculate the last number in terms of the first number and a
constant increase in rate as well as the total amount of numbers. The second formula will add ass of
the resulting numbers from the first formula together after the last number is calculated.
Process:
Kevin s Decisions:
In order to put the problem into perspective, I first set up my own possible variables for the first
platform height, the difference in height between each platform, and the total number of platforms.
I came up with the numbers for each variable respectively: 6, 3, and 3. The first platform is 6 feet
tall. There are 3 platforms. The distance between each platform is 3 feet. The ... Show more content

To find out the total height we could add the height of all of the platforms. However, the total
height can also be determined by a formula since the increase in height from platform to platform
is the same. What I saw was that there are pairs within the heights of the first platform and last
platform that when added result to the same number. For example: If there are 5 platforms in
total, the first platform is 4 feet and the increase in height is 2 feet, the height of the platforms in
order are: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.
The height of the last platform is 12 and the height of the first platform is 4. When we add 4 and
12 the result is 16 and divided by 2 is 8. The 2nd platform is 6 feet and the 4rth platform is 10
feet When added together and divided by 2 to get the average we get 8. The platform is the
average number, which is 8. I saw this and put it into a formula. I took the height of the first
platform and added it to the last platform, and substituted it for the variables f+l (where l=the
height of the last platform). Then I took the total number of platforms and divided it by 2 to get the
average, and multiplied it by the average of both platforms to get the total height of all of the
platforms. This resulting number is the total length required in square feet of fabric to cover the
fronts of the platforms.
I got the formula (x/2)

Frankenstein, By Mary Shelley And Parable Of The Sower By...
And the Destiny of Earthseed is to take root among the stars. (Butler 77) The books Frankenstein
by Mary Shelley and Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler are both science fiction novels
warning of a dangerous potential future. Frankenstein looks at the dangers of creating artificially
intelligent beings, while Parable of the Sower explores humansavagery in the collapse of American
civilization as the result of poor political decisions. Each addresses concerns of the time they were
published. While both are pessimistic views of the future and both require the suspension of
disbelief, the concept of dystopia and utopia is definitely apparent in both novels. A dystopia being
a world in which nothing is perfect and a utopia being a perfect world. Frankensteinaddresses a
timeless issue that modern science may soon make a reality, while Parable of the Sower creates an
alarming depiction of conservative leadership.
Frankenstein is an early depiction of the creation of artificial intelligence, an idea with great
significance today. While artificially intelligent beings such as golems exist in myth as the product
of magic, scientific progress has the true potential to make such beings. In modern times, the subject
is frequently discussed with regard to computers being programmed to think, in an imitation of the
human brain. In Frankenstein, the medium used is recycled human body parts stitched together to
create a new human like entity. Whether or not this entity,

The National Security Act Of 1947 Centralized Command And...
The National Security Act of 1947 centralized command and promoted intelligence sharing
between institutions by establishing a Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of
Central Intelligence, and NSC. The President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary
of the Army, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Air Force, and Chairman of the National
Security Resources Board composed the original statutory members of the NSC. The President
was also authorized to designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is
separate from the Council, comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized
in specialized directorates. The primary function of the NSC is to advise the President on domestic,
foreign, and military policies relating to the national security. The NSC acts as a coordinator
between departments and agencies across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports
from them to develop national security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is
unique because it both consumes intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and
guides intelligence activities by coordinating policies across government. In 1949, the NSC
reorganized to incorporate the Vice President, Secretary of the Treasury, and Joint Chiefs of Staff,
as well as remove the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force from the Council. President
Harry Truman originally did not regularly attend NSC

Ordinary People Film Analysis
In the film, Ordinary People, Calvin Jarrett is the husband of Beth Jarrett and the father of Buck
and Conrad Jarrett. He has been experiencing a very difficult time in his life. Recently, his son
Buck died in a boating accident and Conrad attempted to commit suicide, but did not succeed
because he found him in time to save him. Losing one son and almost losing his other son was a
painful experience for Calvin. Through the film, we see his feelings about his children as well his
caring and honest nature. We also see him escape his wife s controlling nature and standing up to
her. Calvin Jarrett fits into stage eight of Erikson s schema. I believe he fits into this stage because
he has been through many tough times in his life with integrity.... Show more content on

I believe this because in this stage he lost Buck to a tragic accident, almost lost Conrad to suicide
and lost the wife he used to know who was charming and loveable. Losing Buck and almost
losing Conrad had a big effect on Calvin and caused him emotional pain. As if losing one son
weren t hard enough, he almost lost his other son. When Buck died, he says that Beth buried the
best of herself, which was her charm, compassion and love. He lost the wife he used to know
and his eyes were opened to her controlling and unlovable nature. This stage was very
problematic and helped Calvin mature into stage eight which is mature adulthood. Stage 7 is
described as generativity vs. self absorption, which is what I believed caused problems in this
stage. This generativity vs. self absorption was not just with him, I believe this crises occurred
between him and Beth. Calvin was practicing generativity which means caring for and nurturing
younger people, in his cause would be Conrad. On the other hand, Beth was practicing self
absorption because she wanted everything to be her way. This caused for problems because him
and his wife were practicing two different natures which caused conflict in their family

Censorship Laws At The Time Of Release
Sound s importance is often overlooked in film, it s either completely ignored or relegated to a
minor status. This is surprising as sound can have such an impact on the audience s emotions and
can mold their reactions. The scene I have chosen to analyse is the shower scene from the much
discussed 1960 Hitchcock film Psycho.
Censorship laws at the time of release were so strict, Hitchcock had to disturb in other ways without
actually revealing too much visually, one main technique was through the use of sound. A
particular positive outcome from harsh censorship laws, was the inventive and resourceful approach
that writers and directors used to get around them that ultimately lead to the end result being more
interesting to watch and much more memorable. If Herrmann s terror inducing score had not been
present, this scene would be much less powerful. Due to the fast paced cuts, if there was no music,
the sound differences would be much more noticeable cutting from shot to shot. Viewing the scene
without the music, shows how the violins help to cover up unimpressive sound editing.
In this case, music has a vital role of helping the film promote tension throughout. Usually, isolated
instruments are used to build up to a key event to increase tension and subconsciously link the idea
of vulnerability to the viewers. However in Psycho, composer Bernard Herrmann uses just the
sound of the shower leading up to the key moment and then the isolated instruments (violins and
cellos)

It is challenging to acquire strategic information technology (IT) alliances properly. Devoid of
appropriate outsourcing methods, the threat of occupational fraud escalates (Association of
Certified Fraud Examiners [ACFE], 2006). Nevertheless, companies employ outsourcing for several
strategic motivations (Bass, 2013). Outsourcing assists businesses to concentrate on core
competencies, increase performance, diminish capital investment expenses, and realize increased
revenues (Ghodeswar Vaidyanathan, 2008). Any form of fraud or corruption in the selection or
management of outsourcing arrangements is inefficacious (ACFE, 2006). Corruption schemes such

The Causes of Poor Productivity Within Large Organizations
The Causes of Poor Productivity Within Large Organizations
Productivity is the degree of output achieved in relation to a certain level of input. For example, in
a call centre environment, productivity would be seen as the number of telephone calls answered
per hour by a certain number of staff. The telephone calls are the output and the staff available to
take the calls are the input.
In order to improve productivity, one of the following has to occur: The level of input is decreased
however the level of output remains the same, or, the level of output increases but the level of input
remains the same. In relation to the example of the call centre, this would mean reducing the ...

I found the findings from Case Study A to be very surprising having worked in a call centre
myself and not having had very many positive experiences during my time there. The overall
impression from those interviewed was that they felt very positive about their workplace. There
were inevitable differences in how different levels of employees viewed certain issued but there
were more similarities than differences. I was interested to see how employees had spoke about
productivity and performance targets. It became apparent that performance targets were related
to the number of calls answered, the time in which it took to answer the calls and also the levels
of call leakage. It is very easy to monitor call centre agents against an array of time related
measures and staff felt under a lot of pressure at times due to this. I can relate to this, as this is
exactly how I felt working as a call centre agent. One manager interviewed in Case Study A stated
that the most important thing in managing call centre staff was motivation, motivation, motivation ,
yet the manager in question admitted he had little idea of how to motivate staff. I do agree that
motivating staff to perform well is an issue and I appreciate that highly motivated staff will be more
productive but I also think that if staff working in call centres had a better understanding

A Comparison Of Superman And Wonder Woman
I am enjoying this discussion about Wonder Woman, even though I am not a huge fan of DC
Comics or superhero films. However, I love Superman and Wonder Woman films and television
series from the 80 s. Remember the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves and the
Wonder Woman television series from the 80s (I grew up in the 80s)? Since we are speaking
about films based on classic childhood favorites, I have another example to add: Goonies. A
group of five boys (the Goonies) live in a town scheduled for demolition but this clique refuses to
give up without a fight. When these Goonies discover One eyed Willie s hidden treasure map they
depart from their normal life to hunt his treasure in hopes of being able to save their parent s
homes. Now,

youngest brother, Darius, invited me to go barhopping on Saturday night. Darius is a strange
kid : When he was 18, he married his True One . When he was 22, his wife miscarried their child.
When he was 27, he divorced. And now at 30, he insisted that he is caught between two parallel
worlds of losing his youth to enter the serious side of adulthood. Can you say, Whatta Pussy! I
knew you could. ANYWAY! He called me up and asked me if I wanted to go to one of those
clubs that played shitty music, served free drinks, and contained easy women. Darius further
informed me that he decided to bring along four of his friends with us. Oh for joy. Now, listen

watch us flirting miserably with women. We also require you to pay for any of the drinks that
we ordered tonight. And finally, we need you to keep an eye on us, so that we will not get into

Two Negative Impacts Of Transnational Corporations On...
Explain TWO negative impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries.
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to explain why the impacts of transnational corporations on
developing countries are important to understand. Transnational corporations are large companies
that have a head office in one country and subsidiary offices in other countries. They affect all
countries; however, they affect developing countries on a much larger and damaging level. This is
because developing countries are poorer, many people have a lower standard of living, and the
resources available and the amount to hire an employee is significantly lower that one of a
developed country. The two negative impacts caused by transnational corporations that will be
discussed in this report are sweatshops and life expectancy. These impacts are important to
understand because they educate us on how the world of trade is influenced by sweatshops, and
how sweatshops effect an individual s life.
Globalisation
The impacts of globalisation are happening around us every day, with or without us realising it.
Globalisation is the breakdown of traditional barriers between nations, and a trend towards faster
and cheaper movement around the world of people, goods, money and information.
As shown in the figure, many different factors are impacted and impact globalisation. Economic
globalisation consists of the growth and development of international trade. This is the process of

A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Essay
A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Octavia Butler s trilogy Lilith s Brood contains a
myriad of characters who would be marked as different in contemporary American society, whether
it is because of their race, gender, sex, or species. Their differences are often the catalyst for
conflict between others who see themselves as more normal and, therefore, better and higher ranked
in the humanhierarchy. Butler s disdain for human hierarchical tendencies is clear in Lilith s Brood
as she often calls human intelligence and hierarchy the human contradiction . Using the
protagonists Lilith, Akin, and Jodahs, Butler criticizes the misconceptions formulated about race,
sex, and genderand, through their interactions with others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The humans understand that their only hope for survival is to learn from Lilith and that they are
helpless without her but the Human Contradiction drives them to see her as a traitor to the human
species (152). The Contradiction trumps their survival instinct as they would rather try to fend for
themselves than to learn from Lilith. Some resistors die or nearly die because of the Contradiction.
Lilith also has enhanced strength, which perturbs other humans. After getting hit by Lilith, the
resentment of having to rely on Lilith flares up and causes victims to accuse Lilith of not being a
woman because only a man can fight that way (147). Losing in a fight to Lilith essentially has
others place the loser on a lower rank than the betrayer Lilith on the hierarchy. This embarrassment
causes humans to be irrational and claim outlandish statements. This statement also examines the
preconceptions of the abilities of males and females. Men are thought to be strong because it is a
masculine feature. A woman who possesses masculine traits, like strength, must not be a woman at
all. The reader clearly sees how ludicrous it is to only associate masculine with men and feminine
with women. Most people are a mixture of both and yet society teaches us someone who is normal
is either one or the other. These teachings result in humans marking other as different, which turns
into xenophobia and ethnocentrism. Lilith demonstrates a

To determine the bargaining power of the supplier, one examines how much power a business s
supplier has and how much control it has over the potential to raise its prices, which, in turn
would lower a business s profitability (Brooks). Since Alliant Energy and its subsidiaries operate
out of northern Iowa, central and southern Wisconsin, and southern Minnesota they have the
ability to efficiently supply their operational needs, thus limiting the need for outside suppliers.
In this situation, Alliant would have plenty of bargaining power, since they can dictate the
prices they are willing to pay. Just as the suppliers lack the ability to have bargaining power, so
does the customers Alliant Energy serves. According to Porter s fourth force bargaining power
of the consumer, this force looks at the power of the consumer to affect pricing and quality.
Consumers have the power when there are not many of them, but many sellers, as well as when
it is easy to switch from one business s product or services to another (Brooks). In this type of
market, the buying power of the consumer is very low, due to the limitation of corporate
competition. Alliant Energy has what is called a Regional Monopoly , where they control an entire
area. With the exception of MG E in the city of Madison, Alliant Energy are the only source of

Vallenato Music In Colombia
Colombia is home to one of the many unique form of musical genre called Vallenato that formed
around the second half of the 20th century. It initiated from a small valley region of northeastern
Colombia and the term vallenato itself literally translates to someone from the valley, ( valle and
nato ). It is described as the poor man s music, like the workers from the farmlands of Colombia.
The Mississippi and Magdalena River carry heavy origins of vallenato music. These rivers signify
the struggles and experiences of those living by the river in this country. Identified as a descendant
of Cumbia music, Vallenato music was influenced by romantic music and everyday work related
songs. In the beginning vallenato music was looked down upon as music only played by those of

Question #1: How does the concentration of substrate affect the reaction rate?
1.If the amount of concentration of substrate is increased, the reaction rate will be also be increased.
2.Enzymes are used to regulate the rate of certain reactions without being chemically altered by the
reaction itself. After each reaction process, the enzymes will separate from the product and can
continue to be reused over and over again to catalyze other reactions. The reaction rate of enzymes
will increase significantly if the concentration of substrate is increased because a higher

could be. Although not all enzymes have the same optical pH levels, a majority of enzymes work
the most effectively when the pH of their environment is between six and eight. If most enzymes
are put in more acidic or alkaline environment, the enzymes would no longer function and would
be irreversibly damaged. For example, the enzymes would not form the proper shape to bond with
the substrates or they would not be able to bond with the substrates. As a result, the imbalance of
the pH level would inhibit the rate of reaction since reactions would no longer be able to

Abstract Abnormal respiratory rate is considered to be a important predictor of conditions like
cardiac arrest, tachypnea and hypervolemia. Estimating respiration rate of an individual using non
invasive techniques such as by using Photoplethysmogram (PPG) and Electrocardiogram(ECG)
have been widely discussed and several methods have been proposed to extract respiratory rate
information from these signals. However, maintaining a high degree of accuracy in measuring
respiratory rate has been a problem. This paper uses Autoregressive Modeling (AR) technique and

better results in term of accuracy and computational efficiency.

Revenge In Hamlet Analysis
Murder, incest, revenge! This is Shakespeare s Hamlet. If lovers of literature are asked to make a

an intriguing and complicated character, has been studied by lovers of literature and psychologists

Success as One of The American Dream When we hear the word success , we often think of
wealth and money. To some people, the embodiment of being success is earning a lot of money. In
fact, the concept of success is primarily based on how much money a person earns. However, each
person views the definition of success differently. One way to define success is something that
has more to do with flash than it does with substance. John Wooden, an American basketball
player and coach view success as a peace of mind which is a direct result of self satisfaction in
knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming (JLP). John Wooden
believes that true measure of success comes simply when someone do the best they can do, no
matter what the outcome is. This shows that some people view success in a way that does not deal
with wealth and money. Success is considered as one of the American Dreamwhich each individual
have at least dream of achieving it at some point in their life. Although this simple word can be
defined in various ways, to achieve success require rigorous hard work, sacrifices, strong
motivation and a wild interpretation of success. Success is an interesting word to all of us, from
the earliest age even to the grave s edge we cannot be indifferent to it. The Merriam Webster

The Code of Hammurabi is one of history s oldest and best preserved written law which appeared

family law (marriage and divorce), as well as criminal law (assault, theft) and civil law (slavery,

The Heightening of Airport Security after September 11th
Extraordinary challenges require extraordinary measures. The terrorist attacks on
America on September 11, 2001 required that we reform our nation s aviation security system in
fundamental ways. Three years after the Sept. 11 tragedies, how far has airport and airlines come? It
depends on the source. While it is important for airports to heighten security after the attacks of 9

The process of screening and profiling has contributed to numerous complaints from passengers
who have been selected for additional screening. Passenger profiling at the airport should not be the
sole means of protecting our flying public from would be terrorists. If a present security measure is
found to prevent potential customers from flying without providing a meaningful prevention to
terrorism, that measure should be relaxed or eliminated. Passengers profiling should be utilized in
conjunction with information received from our intelligence community. Close examination and
revision of this system is obviously necessary.
Our current profiling system is based on a computer program that was developed several years ago.
Many people have begun submitting formal comments to the Privacy Office of the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security, urging it to stop airline passenger screening programs that are
administered by the Transportation Security Administration(TSA). These programs allow travel
authorities to access personal information about each passenger from government and commercial
databases (Privacy Activism). Authorities who rely on these systems run the risk of misidentifying
individuals and tagging them as security risks. Some passengers have even been forbidden to board
planes (Street Beat). Travel authorities believe that this sensitive data will help identify potential

Good People By David Foster Wallace
David Foster Wallace s short story Good People uses the themes of division, isolation, and
loneliness to suggest how communication can overcomes these psychological problems. These
themes, prominent in the story of a young couple struggling with how to react to an unwanted
pregnancy, are present in many of Wallace s stories, and come from his own struggles and literary
influences. The nature of divisionversus unity in the story is manifested in many basic as well as
complex ways. The central tension of the story comes from the position of the unborn child that
Sheri Fisher is carrying. The tension comes from the fact that Lane Dean and Fisher must decide
whether Fisher and the child should remain physically united or be permanently divided; to have
the child would represent a permanent unity of family at least between Fisher and the child, while
an abortion would be a permanent division.
The two main characters are also deeply divided based on their perspective. Lane Dean, the male
character, was trying to say things that would get her to open up and say enough back that he
could see her and read her heart and know what to say to get her to go through with it (Wallace).
Dean is at once divided from Fisher, his girlfriend, because his perspective is apparently different
from hers. He is sure that he wants her to get the abortion, while she appears unsure. They are
further divided because to Dean, his girlfriend is blank and hidden (Wallace), meaning that Dean

Summary Of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
P 1: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. It was written
in 1970 for his album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox . During this time there was a profound
shift in the struggle for equality as the fight for civil rights gave way to the demand for Black
Power. Scott Heron tried to attract and encourage all people to continue being actively involved
in the revolution and not to just watch it from a safe distance. He also warned people to be wary
of the media and their portrayal of African American society. The song looks at the power of the
media not just in observing society s politics but in shaping them. He reminds us that big
corporations own everything we see on television and even when we do get involved in the
revolution, there will be no news coverage on it. The song aims to denounce the elusive nature of
political culture in Nixon s America, and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of
the people (Smith). The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is an example of... Show more content on

This line was a popular slogan during the Black Power movement in the 1970s, and it acts as a
stand in or summary for the entire message of the song. By saying The Revolution Will Not Be
Televised , Gil Scott Heron is saying you cannot just sit down and watch its progress from the
comfort of your own home; you must be involved on the streets. He is urging his community to
resist the pessimism of passivity and to fight actively for the change they want to see. There is
also a sense of immediacy to the message. The revolution is happening now. It is a live event.
Even if the mainstream media and those capitalist puppets who control it allowed such a
movement to be documented, their efforts would be delayed. They would never be able to capture
the hearts of the people fighting in real time in the real

Disrespects In The Film Rocky
Unfortunately for Rocky his family and friends are not the only people who disrespect him
throughout the film. Rocky is disrespected by his opponent Apollo Creed and his team of
representatives. Apollo disrespects Rocky by not taking him seriously as an opponent and by
underestimating the skill that Rocky has. For example, when Pauly forces Rocky to be
interviewed by the media without asking him, he starts training on camera for television
viewers to see. One of the viewers who is a representative of Apollo Creed s sees what is
happening on TV and tells Apollo to come look at it. Apollo s representative says to Apollo, Ay
champ i think you outta want to take a look at the boy your fighting, it looks like he means
business . To which Apollo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the entire movie they disrespected him as a fighter and a person. During the press
conference they held to make news about the fight public, they disrespected Rocky the most in
front of a televised audience. Even the reporters seemed bias in their questioning when they are
supposed to be completely unbiased. With Rocky standing at the podium next to him, one
reporter asked Apollo why are you fighting a contender who has virtually no shot at winning? .
To which Apollo answered sarcastically by saying Well haven t you ever heard of Valley Forge
or Bunker Hill? . Shortly after his response, Apollo is asked how he feels about his opponent, to
which he answers, Oh, rocky? He s my main man . Apollo puts his arm around Rocky and acts
like they have been best friends since the beginning of time and makes another sarcastic joke at
Rocky when Apollo asks him, Hey Rocky you re Italian aren t you? , to which rocky responds
with a simple yes. Apollo then says, Well if he can t fight I bet he can cook , publicly humiliating
rocky in front of a television viewing audience. Had Apollo given Rocky the respect he deserved,
the fight may have gone more so in his

  • 2. Character Analysis Of Gary O s Seventh Grade By Gary Soto Even though Victor, a 7th grader from the story of Seventh Grade by Gary Soto, is trying to find his way socially, academically and personally, he is motivated to get his girl but in doing this he matures and develops. On the first day of seventh grade, Victor s personality is sheepish and shy. When he was in his math room for his second period, he sat in the back because math was at his weakest subject. On Victor s way to math class the narrator says After English, Victor had math, his weakest subject. He sat in the back by the window, hoping that he would not be called on. Victor understood most of the problems, but some of the stuff looked like the teacher made it up as she went along. It was confusing, like the inside of a watch. (Soto 4). This illustrates that Victor is not very good at math and does not want to try harder in math. It is important to notice that he has not been able to grasp the knowledge of this class and is not willing to catch up. The moment Victor develops is when Teresa asks if he can tutor her he this sparks that he knew he did not fail and impressed her in French class. The teacher beamed and said, TrГЁs Bien. Parlez vous franГ§ais? Victor didn t know what to say. The teacher wets his lips and asked something else in French. The room grew silent. Victor felt all eyes staring at him. • 3. A Report On Fine Chemicals Fine Chemicals Is API manufacturing returning to Europe? Shannon Bennett of Thomson Reuters takes a look at the shifts in active ingredient sourcing During the past decade, as manufacturers have pursued lower costs and a more favourable regulatory environment, API sourcing has expanded from regulated into less regulated markets. However, sourcing from emerging markets has revealed a variety of challenges which pharmaceuticals companies are continuously working to overcome. These challenges, coupled with increasing costs in India and China and demand for specialised technologies, could steer some companies to return to sourcing their APIs from European suppliers. Regulatory developments Interest in the pursuit of the US generic drugs market... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The European Generics Association (EGA) recently requested consideration of an EU Bolar Export Provision. This would allow EU generic drugs companies to develop and manufacture products specifically for export to the global market without breaching existing EU patent protection. Such a provision would not only benefit EU companies by levelling the API playing field but would also facilitate the entry and availability of generic drugs in pharmerging markets, where the only available option may be more expensive branded drugs. The future of EU API manufacturing could be influenced by the outcome of other pending initiatives that would require more from companies in terms of investment in and oversight of suppliers. For example, the adoption of the EU s Falsified Medicines Directive requires the verification of all finished dose packs throughout the supply chain, as well as for APIs exported to EU, proving they were produced within quality specifications equivalent to those in EU. Source: Robert Pollack, Lachman Consultants Figure 1 GDUFA fees An additional requirement has been proposed which would require API manufacturers to verify the source of all starting materials, ensuring that they originated from the facilities claimed by the manufacturer of the starting materials. This could help EU manufacturers, as sourcing from European companies would require less paperwork and oversight than sourcing from India and China. Additionally, European companies may choose ... The condenser also functions to maintain the temperature throughout the heating process and thereby maximizing the accuracy of the experimental results. The addition of boiling chips in the heating process to dissolve the diphenyl serves to minimize the possibility of the occurrence of bumping, i.e. sudden explosive boiling whereby large bubbles erupt from the heated solution. Instead, a steady stream of small air bubbles is produced with the addition of the chips. Subsequently after complete dissolving of the crude diphenyl, an additional 15 mL of ethanol is added to ensure that all the crude diphenyl is dissolved. A small amount of decolourising charcoal is added to the solution mixture. The decolourising charcoal serves to remove any impurities in the mixture, by adsorbing substances responsible for colouration of the solution on its surface via its activated properties. A small amount is used as the desired product may be adsorbed as well if a large amount is used instead. The mixture is filtered via a preheated stemless glass funnel immediately after boiling for 10 15 minutes. This is to prevent any early crystallization of the mixture since its crystallization temperature is quite low. The use of preheated apparatus for filtration is also to minimize premature crystallization of the mixture. Filtration of the mixture while it is still hot is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. First Woman Leader of a Muslim Nation ..In pain you shall bring forth children, and you shall be dependent on your husband, and he shall rule over you. (Genesis 3 v 16.) Religion is almost exclusively to blame for how women are treated in Islam. Benazir Bhutto lead the movement from believing women would be nothing without men, to a woman can lead a country and her people. Religion tells us that the womanis created for the man, and that she shall serve him, treat him as if he was a God. We also learn from the bible that the single purpose of a woman is continuing on the males lineage. The bible, along with religion, attempts to destroy the science of birth. Every man born, was born to a woman, and is almost entirely dependent on the mother for most of their adolescent years. The bible tries to teach that woman would be nothing without man as the first woman was supposedly born of the first man, from an extra rib. In a debate with religion, women s rights are almost always ignored, or even denied from the concept that a woman must serve a man. (Ratcliffe 2012) This is the logic that is the reason women in Islam, still do not have many rights. These women are perpetuated into looking as if they carried some right, but when you look at the facts, a woman is not trusted with most decisions in Islam. Let alone to be responsible for the decisions that are the future of an entire country. It was not until Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Islam that women had any political say in the country at all. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In opening here are a few categories of some villains in movies; there is the Beast, the Disturbed, the Criminal, the Equal, the Machine, the Mastermind, and the Bully. The first category that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beasts can be broken down in a wide variety of views. Although the animal aspect of beast will be the sub category that will be referenced. animals are covered in many movies as beasts, fluctuating from animals as small and common as bats. To as big and an unusual as werewolves. An all time great movie with a extreme beast, is Jaws. Jaws is a movie about a killer white shark that terrorizes a beach and the men that try to kill it. Here is a breakdown of an instance when you come across a shark said by the boat captain Quint. Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high pitched screaming . That is kind of a frightening thought. Everyone is a little leery when they see a fin rising out of the water. The last example of the animal villain is a bit on the unusual side, it was actually referanced in the example of an unusual animal villain a little prior. The movie is the Wolfman, hinting at the villain in the title, the villain is a man that turns into a wolf. I believe one of the most terrifying scenes is where he is sitting in the asylum, tied to the chair. When a group of men of some authority are trying to exam the villain under the full moon. You can see where Lawrence Talbert is trying to warn them and they will not listen, then he screams I will kill all of you! when he is transforming into the petrifying animal. These are both considered by many to be truly fearsome animals, and rightly so. While it is a little hard to relate animal villains to common society, you can see many shark attacks on the news and web. As for as werewolves or wolfmen go, there are stories about dark parts of the forest and ultimately, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Vegetables (Best for small land holders) The cultivation of vegetables out of their normal season under environment controlled conditions is known as vegetable forcing. It falls under the category of Olericulture which is a branch of Horticultural sciences. There are two major groups of vegetables, first one is summer vegetables and second is winter vegetables which are grown in summer and winter respectively. The main component of environment is temperature which is responsible for this classification. Second thing is frost sensitiveness. All frost sensitive vegetables are classified in summer vegetables e.g. Cucumber, Chillies, Cucurbits and Okra. These two components of environment are controlled with polythene sheets by constructing tunnels with pipes of plastic or iron. Therefore vegetable forcing is also known as Tunnel Farming . The second formula will add ass of the resulting numbers from the first formula together after the last number is calculated. Process: Kevin s Decisions: In order to put the problem into perspective, I first set up my own possible variables for the first platform height, the difference in height between each platform, and the total number of platforms. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To find out the total height we could add the height of all of the platforms. However, the total height can also be determined by a formula since the increase in height from platform to platform is the same. What I saw was that there are pairs within the heights of the first platform and last platform that when added result to the same number. For example: If there are 5 platforms in total, the first platform is 4 feet and the increase in height is 2 feet, the height of the platforms in order are: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. The height of the last platform is 12 and the height of the first platform is 4. When we add 4 and 12 the result is 16 and divided by 2 is 8. The 2nd platform is 6 feet and the 4rth platform is 10 feet When added together and divided by 2 to get the average we get 8. The platform is the average number, which is 8. I saw this and put it into a formula. I took the height of the first platform and added it to the last platform, and substituted it for the variables f+l (where l=the height of the last platform). Then I took the total number of platforms and divided it by 2 to get the average, and multiplied it by the average of both platforms to get the total height of all of the platforms. This resulting number is the total length required in square feet of fabric to cover the fronts of the platforms. I got the formula (x/2) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frankenstein looks at the dangers of creating artificially intelligent beings, while Parable of the Sower explores humansavagery in the collapse of American civilization as the result of poor political decisions. Each addresses concerns of the time they were published. While both are pessimistic views of the future and both require the suspension of disbelief, the concept of dystopia and utopia is definitely apparent in both novels. The President was also authorized to designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is separate from the Council, comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized in specialized directorates. The NSC acts as a coordinator between departments and agencies across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports from them to develop national security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is unique because it both consumes intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and guides intelligence activities by coordinating policies across government. • 16. Censorship Laws At The Time Of Release Sound s importance is often overlooked in film, it s either completely ignored or relegated to a minor status. This is surprising as sound can have such an impact on the audience s emotions and can mold their reactions. The scene I have chosen to analyse is the shower scene from the much discussed 1960 Hitchcock film Psycho. Censorship laws at the time of release were so strict, Hitchcock had to disturb in other ways without actually revealing too much visually, one main technique was through the use of sound. A particular positive outcome from harsh censorship laws, was the inventive and resourceful approach that writers and directors used to get around them that ultimately lead to the end result being more interesting to watch and much more memorable. If Herrmann s terror inducing score had not been present, this scene would be much less powerful. Due to the fast paced cuts, if there was no music, the sound differences would be much more noticeable cutting from shot to shot. Viewing the scene without the music, shows how the violins help to cover up unimpressive sound editing. In this case, music has a vital role of helping the film promote tension throughout. Usually, isolated instruments are used to build up to a key event to increase tension and subconsciously link the idea of vulnerability to the viewers. However in Psycho, composer Bernard Herrmann uses just the sound of the shower leading up to the key moment and then the isolated instruments (violins and cellos) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The purpose of this report is to explain why the impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries are important to understand. Transnational corporations are large companies that have a head office in one country and subsidiary offices in other countries. They affect all countries; however, they affect developing countries on a much larger and damaging level. This is because developing countries are poorer, many people have a lower standard of living, and the resources available and the amount to hire an employee is significantly lower that one of a developed country. The two negative impacts caused by transnational corporations that will be discussed in this report are sweatshops and life expectancy. These impacts are important to understand because they educate us on how the world of trade is influenced by sweatshops, and how sweatshops effect an individual s life. Globalisation The impacts of globalisation are happening around us every day, with or without us realising it. Globalisation is the breakdown of traditional barriers between nations, and a trend towards faster and cheaper movement around the world of people, goods, money and information. The humans understand that their only hope for survival is to learn from Lilith and that they are helpless without her but the Human Contradiction drives them to see her as a traitor to the human species (152). The Contradiction trumps their survival instinct as they would rather try to fend for themselves than to learn from Lilith. Some resistors die or nearly die because of the Contradiction. Lilith also has enhanced strength, which perturbs other humans. After getting hit by Lilith, the resentment of having to rely on Lilith flares up and causes victims to accuse Lilith of not being a woman because only a man can fight that way (147). Losing in a fight to Lilith essentially has others place the loser on a lower rank than the betrayer Lilith on the hierarchy. This embarrassment causes humans to be irrational and claim outlandish statements. This statement also examines the preconceptions of the abilities of males and females. Men are thought to be strong because it is a masculine feature. A woman who possesses masculine traits, like strength, must not be a woman at all. The reader clearly sees how ludicrous it is to only associate masculine with men and feminine with women. Good People By David Foster Wallace David Foster Wallace s short story Good People uses the themes of division, isolation, and loneliness to suggest how communication can overcomes these psychological problems. These themes, prominent in the story of a young couple struggling with how to react to an unwanted pregnancy, are present in many of Wallace s stories, and come from his own struggles and literary influences. The nature of divisionversus unity in the story is manifested in many basic as well as complex ways. The central tension of the story comes from the position of the unborn child that Sheri Fisher is carrying. The tension comes from the fact that Lane Dean and Fisher must decide whether Fisher and the child should remain physically united or be permanently divided; to have the child would represent a permanent unity of family at least between Fisher and the child, while an abortion would be a permanent division. The two main characters are also deeply divided based on their perspective.
