How Lean And Lean Approach For Enhancing Organizational...
Obstacles to Implementing Lean
Lean System has become a popular technique used in both local and global markets. More
companies are embracing it to improve efficiency, achieve better quality, and be more competitive.
The Lean thinking was considered to be one potential approach to enhancing organizational
performance. It has evolved into a management approach that improves processes at different levels
of the organization. Nevertheless, the process of implementing lean manufacturing is bound to
encounter obstacles. Besides defining the lean concept, this paper will consider the points that
impede lean implementation and will outline the main two defies that companies are facing when
they change their business model towards implementing a new management system, lean approach.
This paper will also provide some recommendations to overcome these obstacles.
Lean Definition
Todd(2000) defines lean production as initiative, whose goal is to shrink the waste in human effort,
inventory, time to market, and manufacturing space to become highly responsive to customer
demand while producing world class quality products in the most efficient and economical manner .
The Lean approach consists of several practices, which aim to improve efficiency, quality, and
responsiveness to customers. Lean manufacturing is industrialized by Taiichi Ohno at Toyota Motor
Company in the 1950 s (Motwani 2003). It was like an innovation technique based on the minds
and hands philosophy of the

Arson Investigation
Arson is a serious issue and the investigation of it requires a great deal of examination and
experience. When the thought comes to mind how a person can be so, unconcern with fire there is
a lot to consider. There are many areas of focus when it comes to investigating arson, along with
procedures legal entries, and obligations and responsibilities of the examining team. There are great
usages for Arsoninspectors in our world today and with the right examiner/team, the job is
according to the laws and requirement. When the thought comes to mind that it was just a simple
fire there could be questionable evidence that shows arson. The discussion shall be addressing the
focus areas, procedures, legal entry, and evidence collecting.

The key is to ensure that the foundation is established and that ever matter is reviewed and
evaluated. This needs to be completed at all cost to ensure that the person of interest is evaluated
mentally and emotionally. The fire investigationat the scene must be performed at or near the time
of the fire. An exception may be when the investigation of a fire that occurred at night halts and
recommences in the morning due to lack of light, assistance, better conditions, and hazard
conditions still exist (America Re Insurance Comany, 1996). This ensures that there is no evidence
tampered with and there is a fresh perspective on the fire.
The procedure in which the crime scene team leader need to do is keep record of the date, time,
weather conditions, individuals present, position of lights, doors security, and ventilation system
status. This allows the individual investigator to run smoothly through all the probable causes and

Muslim Innovations That Have Changed The Muslim World
Without the Muslim advancement on location and time people would be walking in circles.
Without the Muslim cites having observatories and increase on astronomy, most likely people
would of never knew about space and the far away planets. The three most influential Muslim
innovations that have changed the world consist of mathematics, geography, and architecture.
Others argue that Literature is one of the most useful Muslim Innovations because it changed how
we write and communicate to this day. According to the Muslim Achievements article Literature,

What Are Romeo And Juliet Good Role Models
Fictional Characters as Role Models Would Romeo and Juliet be good role models for teenagers
today? Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet are
two teenagers who fall in love but come across problems that will prevent them from being
together. One of the main problems they face is that both of their families hate each other. In
order for them to be together, they make reckless decisions that put themselves in danger. So
would Romeo and Juliet be good role models to young teenagers? Romeo and Juliet are both
terrible role models, because they disobey their parents, make bad decisions, and put themselves at

After getting in a fight with Tybalt, Romeo is banished from Verona and Juliet has to find out a
plan to avoid getting married to Paris and to be with Romeo: Take thou this vial, being then in
bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off (4.1.95 96). Juliet follows a plan to drink a liquor
that will knock her out under forty two hours. During that time Romeo is supposed to get her
while she s in her tomb, however he is misled into thinking she s dead. Therefore he kills himself.
Even though Juliet knew the plan might not work, she followed it anyways. Juliet was aware of
the dangerous consequences both of them could face, but agreed to do it out of desperation. Also
out of desperation, Romeo also followed the plan to get a letter that would tell him about with
Juliet: In this resolve. I ll send a friar with speed determined, quickly To Mantua with my letters to
thy lord (4.1.126 127). In the end, Romeo never got the letter, which then lead to a misconception
of Juliet being dead. Without questioning a poorly thought out plan, Romeo still agreed to follow
it. This shows how Romeo and Juliet put themselves in danger and ended up facing the
consequences. This goes on to show how they are terrible role

Evolution Of Football Research Paper
Since the 19th century, football has been played and changed throughout the years (Stelzer 1).
From only college students playing the sport, to having professional teams and players be
watched from all over the country. Football s history depicts the origin of this sport in order to
show how football was played back then and how it should be played. Football was created by a
rugby player named Walter Camp (Gorn and Goldstein 153). He combined the sports soccer and
rugby, then later came up with the rules (Stelzer 1). Walter Camp has been widely and accurately
acknowledged as the father of American football(Gorn and Goldstein 153). Camp explained how
football should be played and the way to win a game. The sport involves teamwork, not... Show

The first professional football league was the American Professional Association, formed back
in 1920 (Stelzer 4). Though that league didn t work out so they gave way in 1922 to the
National Football League (NFL) (4). When the NFL started, not many people watched their
games. Throughout the years they gained more and more spectators. It wasn t until the late
1950s and early 1960, that the NFL became America s leading spectator sport (McChesney 62).
After the NFL reach being big in America, professional football attracted larger numbers of first
rate college players and increased patronage made the league economically viable (Stelzer 4 5).
The NFL also had some competition. The United States Football League (USFL), was a
professional spring league, that would obtain some players from the NFL by paying them a
higher salary (6). Consequently, after three years, the USFL folded, having all their players go
to the NFL (6). The NFL then sought out to merge with the American Football League (AFL) in
1970. The champions from the AFL and NFL would meet to go against each in the AFL NFL
World Championship Game (6). The name of that game was soon changed into what is now
known as the Super Bowl (6). Soon millions of people started watching the NFL on television.
There are different ways to play football. Flag football and touch football, which eliminates much
of the physical contact (Milbert 2). The rules are pretty much the same like regular football, just
that in touch football, a play would end if a defensive player touches the ball carrier (2). In flag
football, a play ends when a defender pulls a piece of cloth, called a flag, from the belt of back
pocket of the ball carrier (2). These two variations of football are safer than normal football, so
younger players can still play without being seriously

Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved The Country
History is known to repeat itself, as evidence by the many groups that have suffered racial and
ethnic discrimination. Hitler created prejudice against the Jews during World War II. Southerners
discriminated against the Blacks, leading up to the Civil War, and during the Apartheid, the Natives
were segregated from the Whites. In Alan Patons Cry, the Beloved the Country, the main character
Stephen Kumalo goes through a journey to restore his tribe. During his journey, he discovers and
learns of the injustices in South Africa. Through the parallels and contradictions of biblical
allusions, Alan Paton is able to explain the impact of racial inequality in South Africa, but signifies
how unconditional love and hope can be used to overcome fear and bring restoration to both the
land and it s inhabitants.
Arthur s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for equality. King
Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the people. Paton states the church
had been too small for all who wanted to come (181), and this is the ultimate representation of the
respect that Arthur receives. King Arthur had the Knights of the Round Table where everyone at
the table was seen as the same, while Arthur Jarvis wishes for sameness of both races and his
death is seen as a major tragedy. The reader is able to learn about what many characters think of
him in the aftermath of his death, this is a terrible loss for South Africa said the white priest.

Graham Greene s The Destructors
Graham Greene s The Destructors, initially, can be interpreted as a telling of senseless violence
that is carried out by group of destructive and out of control boys, but, in all actuality, the story
explores an idea that directly relates destruction with the idea of creation. The text utilizes the
destruction of the house to display how the boys are directly destroying their own naive ideals.
Subsequently, creating a better life for themselves, which allow for the old man to move on from
his pre warlife. But, underneath this argument, the text ultimately displays the destruction of Old
England and the rise of the new post war generation. Demonstrating how the moral interpretation of

This is symbolized by the home being the last remaining piece of the old world that is still
intact; it represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to
think more realistically and the people in it understand the ramifications of their actions,
resulting in a negative image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this
idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful
(314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation.
They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By
destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order
to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are
metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new
post war generation to completely take over. Subsequently creating a new society in order to create
a new England that better than before, to ensure that the pain and destruction never happens

The Roles of Women in France
French culture and society has evolved from many different aspects of French life. From the
mastery of French cuisine to the meaning of French art, the French have changed and evolved in
many ways to produce a specific modern culture, the dignified culture of the French. One thing that
parallels the progress and continuation of French culture is the role of women throughout France.
Compared to other nations, the role and rights of women in France were confronted earlier and
Women s suffrage was enacted earlier. The role of women in France, because of the early change in
perception of women, enabled France to develop faster and with less conflict than other competing
nations.
Missing from the painting is Marat s murderer, Charlotte Corday. Corday was a tall, attractive and

Marat for the Terror consuming the French Revolution, as faction warred against faction. While

illness forced Marat to the confines of his bathtub due to his skin condition, Corday tracked him

Matching human resources with the present and the future is one of the main problems faced by an

My Love Of Medicine
I was born and raised in Sudan, which located in North Africa, and I enjoyed my childhood there.
I spent most of the time outdoors exploring the environment and interacting with different the
creatures around me, which fostered my curiosity. When I was seven years old, my younger
brother suffered a second degree burn that affected a large area of his body. He was admitted to
the hospital and spent 14 days in the burn unit. I was fascinated by the doctors who took care of
him, and their ability to ease patients pain and cure their illnesses. Since then, I have admired and
respected doctors and decided to become a passionate doctor myself. My love of medicinegrew
with me day by day until I finally enrolled in the medical school. During my study at medical
school, I took every opportunity I had to increase my depth of knowledge, strengthen my clinical
skills, and develop professionally with the goal of becoming an excellent doctor. I enjoyed
learning medicine and I actively participated in case presentations, as well as research activities.
Even as a student, I was active in teaching my junior students. I did well on the academic side and
I actually earned the prize of Pediatrics in the final year, which awarded to the top ranked student.
Moreover, I also involved in extracurricular activities, I volunteered in multiple community
programs, delivering free clinics, health education, and free children vaccination campaigns to rural
areas.

I used to play checkers as a kid and I was good at the game. Most of the time I won at the game so I
would throw half of a game to create more of a challenge for me. I would wonder, where did the
game come from, and who played it first. I never had the notion to look it up until now.
From my research I had found that it is a very old game as old as 3000 B.C. The rules are simple:
you place your checkers on the darker squares on your side of the board. You take turns moving the
checkers diagonally towards your opponent. You take your opponents pieces by jumping your piece
over theirs. You must jump when a jump presents itself.
The rules were unclear at the time of its discovery via archaeological dig in Ur or Iraq as its known
today. A game... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, determine who is to be black . You can use any method for this you wish, flip a coin,
alternate, etc. However, the most common method in amateur play is for one of the players to take
one color checker in each hand and hold out his hands before him. The other player chooses a hand,
the color checker in that hand determines the color with which he plays.
The object is to eliminate all opposing checkers or to create a situation in which it is impossible
for your opponent to make any move. Normally, the victory will be due to complete elimination.
Black moves first and play proceeds alternately. From their initial positions, checkers may only
move forward. There are two types of moves that can be made, capturing moves and non
capturing moves. Non capturing moves are simply a diagonal move forward from one square to
an adjacent square. (Note that the white squares are never used.) Capturing moves occur when a
player jumps an opposing piece. This is also done on the diagonal and can only happen when the
square behind (on the same diagonal) is also open. This means that you may not jump an
opposing piece around a corner. On a capturing move, a piece may make multiple jumps. If after
a jump a player is in a position to make another jump then he may do so. This means that a player
may make several jumps in succession, capturing several pieces on a single

Hence we will get a modified function y=5.675sinx2+ПЂ12+6.475

From diagram 3, we can see that the modified function has passed through 11 data points in total,
which is 3 times more than the old function. So it is obvious a better fit to the data points.
Method 5: Decide what time a good sailor should launch their boat based on the model in method 4
An outgoing tide is a receding tide , i.e. a tide that decreases from it s max height(crest) to its min.
height(trough), from our observations on the graph in method 4 , the max. height of the tide
occurs at 2.6 hours after midnight and 15.2 hours after midnight which is 2:36am and 3:12pm
respectively. However, it s more sensible to launch a boat in day light rather than in the dark,
therefore the best for a good sailor to launch a boat would be 3:12pm. But since the function
modeled in part 4 is not a perfit fit, therefore the perdiction of the best time to launch a boat is a
theoretical guess.

Wealth Inequality In America
Wealth distribution is not what it should be from our perspective. The distribution of wealth in
America has been uneven since 1970. We can see the uneven distribution by comparing one of the
wealthiest man in America, Bill Gates, who makes over $50 billion, to a homeless person, who has
nothing. This shows an income inequality in the U.S because there is a huge gap between rich and
poor. While the unemployment rate has decreased in the U.S, the gap between rich and poor in this
country has dramatically increased. There are many contributions to the gap, such as different
education levels among citizens and cost of living. The main reason that contributes to the income
inequality between rich and poor is technological advances. Technological advance hurt the low
income class greatly but at the same time is a big gain to the higher class. The visual graphics are

Albus Dumbledore said to Harry once, It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
Dumbledore was attempting to teach Harry the importance of recognizing what he had been blessed

Giardia Strains
The overall complexity of the strains and assemblages of giardia makes researching and
understanding this species extremely challenging. In this case strains refer to Giardia agilis,
Giardia muris, and Giardia lamblia. To identify between the three main giardia strains (Giardia
agilis, Giardia muris, and Giardia lamblia) requires scientists to look at tiny structural details to
determine what specific strain they are dealing with (Feely and Erlandsen, 1985). For example:
Giardia agilis has a more elongated body in comparison to the other two strains (Feely and
Erlandsen, 1985). Giardia muris is increasingly difficult to distinguish from Giardia lamblia
therefore they typically observe its preferred host (Finch, Black, Labatiuk, Gyurek, Belosevic,...

It is widely accepted and known that the parasite causes abnormal responses within the body
leading to cases of diarrhea (Adam, 1991). A simple explanation of diarrhea is the loose and foul
smelling bowel movements, including actual excretion (Adam, 1991). Diarrhea can begin once
the giardia cyst(s) is ingested into the human body and travels through the digestive tract and
reproduces in the small intestine (Adam, 1991; Gillin and Reiner, 1996). However, the estimated
number of giardia cysts needed to be ingested to result in diarrhea is 10 cysts and the symptoms
typically occur 6 to 15 days after initial ingestion, making it extremely difficult to determine the
form(s) of transfer mechanisms involved (Ankarklev et al., 2010). The time lapse is needed to
allow for cyst and trophozoite reproduction and growth (excystation) to overwhelm the body and
cause the diarrhea (Ankarklev et al., 2010). In addition, the host cannot become immune to the
giardia parasite and therefore infections can occur regardless of previous exposure (Adam,

Informative Essay On Mexican Food
A lot of Americans think they know Mexican food. An occasional trip down to Taco Bell,
Chipotle or Baja Fresh is the limit of most people s education. Why go any further? What is there
to know beyond nachos drizzled with cheese and jalapenos, tacos soaked full of beef and sour
cream and burritos, approaching the size of infant children, stuffed full of pork and cooked in a
deep fryer? Sadly, calling this Mexican food is a bit more than just a stretch. It s pretty much an
embellishment from top to bottom. Do you honestly think most Mexicans eat this type of cuisine
that Americans flock towards?
Authentic Mexican cuisine shares similar roots to much of the Mexican American and Tex Mex
foods that appeals to residents of the United States. Nevertheless, there are plenty of differences
between what s authentic and what s familiar. Here is a brief rundown of some of the history
behind Mexico s worldwide renowned cuisine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The staple of this culinary culture was the corn tortilla, the tomato and the bean. All three of these

Tomatillos were also important ingredients that, along with the tomatoes, initially repelled many
Europeans because of their resemblance and lineage to a common poison plant called

The Effects Of Heroin Abuse
Heroin use has steadily increased post Vietnam to current day, although it has seen a sharp climb in
recent years. This sudden spark in heroin addiction is termed the Heroin epidemic. The Heroin
epidemic can affect all members of society, and it does not discriminate between race, income level
or gender; the government fights the war on drugs but the community and mass media are vital in
the total annihilation of addictionand the epidemic. Many Heroinusers first interacted with opioids,
such as painkillers which is a close relative to heroin, but the cost was too much, so they turned to a
cheap and destructive drug, Heroin. Heroin inherits its addictiveness from the opioid family.

The drug is a part of the highly addictive opioid family, which are used to make painkillers
needed by many Americans. The issue is that the many Americans who have used painkillers,
whether prescribed or taken illegally, are forty times more likely to try heroin ( Today s Heroin
Epidemic ). The epidemic is hard to control because it effects everyone. Not one gender, race or
economic level is considered safe from the abuse of this substance. The government has been
attempting to end the high levels of abuse in America since the late sixties, but old methods proved
costly and ineffective. The transitioning of viewing heroin addiction as a crime to mental health
has reaped some benefits. Facilities now a days have made break throughs in assuring better futures
for addicts by proving them with proper treatment and arming them with correct knowledge of how
to combat their disease. Heroin has sparked an important discussion in society involving media,
race, sex and economic status, and the epidemic forced the federal government to act accordingly,
which allowed communities to properly react and try to lower addiction. Though the rise of heroin
use will most likely continue, the epidemic has to eventually come to an end; whether the
government makes a final push to eliminate drug use completely or police enforcement cuts down
on dealers, the epidemic eventually

The starry night is a painting that was made by Vincent van Gogh. It s a landscape painting made
in June of 1889. It s an oil painting on a canvas that he painted while in an asylum after he had a
breakdown in 1888. He painted the starry night while he inside of the asylum that he voluntarily
went to. The starry night is one of many versions of the paintings he made. He made many
paintings of the view from his room in the asylum in different weather. Each painting was of the

The clocks are melting and there is a lot of mystery in the darkness of the painting. The only
objects in the painting that don t seem to look strange is the small tree on which one of the
clocks is melting and the mountain in the background. The persistence of memory is supposed
to represent what kind of things are seen when in a dream state in Dali s own memory. I think
that the clocks are melting because when you have a dream it feels like it s a few minutes long
however when you awaken from a dream you find that night is gone and the morning is already
here, so time does not really happen in dreams which could be why the clocks are melting as they

The Federal Budget Process Essay
Running head: The Federal Budget Process The Federal Budget Process Abstract This report
focuses on the federal budget process of the United States of America. The annual federal budget
begins with a detailed proposal from the President in February. The budget request is developed by
the President s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Next, Congress creates a blueprint
called a budget resolution that sets limits on how much each committee can spend (or reduce
revenues) over the course of the year. The terms of the budget resolution are then enforced against
individual appropriations, entitlement bills, and tax bills on the House and Senate floors. In
addition, Congress sometimes uses a special procedure called... Show more content on

Second, the president uses the budget request to lay out his relative priorities for federal
programs (Myers, et al, 1989; Policy Basics, 2011). The President s budget is very specific, and
recommends funding levels for individual federal programs or small groups of programs called
budget accounts. The budget typically sketches out fiscal policy and budget priorities not only
for the year but for the next five years or more. It is also accompanied by historical tables that set
our past budget figures (Policy Basics, 2011 Para 4). The third role that the President s budget
plays is that it can be used to alert Congress of what spending and tax policy changes the
President recommends. It is not necessary for the President to propose legislative changes for
those parts of the budget that are governed by permanent law if he feels none are needed (Policy
Basics, 2011). Majority of the federal tax code is set in permanent law, and will not expire.
Similarly, more than one half of federal spending including the three largest entitlement programs
(Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) is also permanently enacted. Interest paid on the
national debt is also paid automatically, with no need for specific legislation. (There is, however, a

Analysis Of Burial Rites By Hannah Kent
Burial Rites is a novel based on a true story by Hannah Kent, which provides a voice to Agnes
Magnusdottir, a convicted criminal who was executed for a crime she may or may not have
committed. Kent conveys the historical genre through the novel and utilises setting in order to
engage readers by including modes of communication, transport and the way of life in the 1800 s
that are not commonly used anymore. Throughout the novel, Kent optimises dialogue through the
use of old terms and utilising old court documents which placereaders in the 1800 s, engaging them
in a historical event that has been silenced.
Burial Rites explores the historical aspect of this compelling, real life tale through setting by
using horses as transport, letters as communication and execution as a punishment for murder.
Horses are no longer commonly used as a mode of transport and letters are generally no longer
used as a form of communication, however, Kent optimises these historical features in her novel
by including predominant ways of life in the 1800 s. This effectively engages the readers as it sets
them in an alternative world. In the 1800 s, when Agnes life was taken not knowing if she was
innocent or not, death was her sentence. Kent includes this within the novel to enhance the
historical genre as in many countries of the world today, it is usually 20 years in prison for murder
Setting functions to engage readers through placing them in a time and place foreign to them, as

The Works of Christina Rossetti
There comes a time in life, when one realizes what is important. To some, the most important
things in life come in a diamond embedded suitcase filled with the grand jewels of life: money,
love, and leaving legacies. People seem to have one simple thought, that having money and love is
the most important thing in life. However, that is not the case for Christina Rossetti. Her views on
life are very realistic and matter of fact. She believes earthly gifts and human emotions are not
important because none of it is permanent. She does not need money or love, and she does not care
if she is remembered. Rossetti reveals what is most important to her her relationship with God, not
her relationship with humanity. Rossetti displays what is important to her through her humble
plea in Song . In the poem, she is neither depressed, nor joyful; she simply states what she
believes. She believes that memorials and placing flowers on graves are not for the ones who are
deceased, but for those they leave behind. She asks them not to show her any special attention, she
will be dead and in death, one cannot feel, hear, speak, or think; therefore she will not be able to
acknowledge their gestures. Her lack of sympathy towards her loved ones shows her detachment
to material items as she rejects the love she will receive at the time of her death. Keeping the
memory of a lost loved one is a way for the living to keep the deceased alive. When thinking of
death, most are afraid that no one

Tar Sands In Canada
Oil and gas usage because of tar sands is now considered the largest source of greenhouse gas
emissions in Canada, which means it actually produces more greenhouse gas emissions in North
America than all the CO2 from vehicles. The tar sands create both a noxious air quality, and a
polluted water quality with bitumen (Greenpeace Canada; Semeniuk, 2016). This issue, in relation
to Canada, is most problematic at the Alberta tar sands. The scientific consensus on this issue is
that the tar sands not only has become one of the biggest emissions problems in Canada, but also
that it has become a major health concern because of the misunderstood and unknown pollutants in
the air (Greenpeace Canada; Semeniuk, 2016; Dr. Gosselin, Dr. Hrudey, Dr. Naeth, Dr. Plourde,
Dr. Therrien, Dr. Van Der Kraak, Dr. Xu., 2010). There is also a general scientific consensus that
this change in the air quality contributes to climate change. This change in air quality also creates a
serious threat to humans. The tar sands impact ambient air quality and produces noxious odours,
which humans inhale and have the possibility to damage our lungs (Dr. Gosselin, et al., 2010).

Research Paper On Harriet Tubman
Have you ever heard of the Underground Railroad and its most famous conductor? Well if you
have not then man do I have a story for you. Harriet Tubman was a slave in the 1800 s who saved
herself as well as 300+ other slaves using the route of the Underground Railroad. The
Underground Railroad was a route of houses that slaves used to get to the north. Harriet changed
the lives of many slaves forever. Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in
1820. She was born on the plantation where her parents Harriet Greene and Ben Ross got hired
to work the fields. She lived there with her family and her eight siblings Linah, Mariah Ritty,
Moses, Ben, Robert, Henry, Rachel, and Soph Ross until she was five. That s when she started
working. She worked for the slave owners from there on out. That was her life. In her early life
Harriet had two different types of pets. She had crickets and bunnies, but I don t know how many.

Hip Hop and Race Relations in America
KRS One once said, Rap is something you do, Hip Hop is something you live. The difference
between how Hip Hop is portrayed (rap) and what the Hip Hop movement is, is that Hip Hop is
a lifestyle but the Hip Hop we see on television is a media creation. We have to look at hip hop as
a whole culture and rap as something that comes out of it. Although Hip Hop was originated by a
mostly Negro constituency, it has evolved since its creation into a worldwide forum through
which family, community, social and political grievances (HHC) can be voiced through various
art forms. Today, the Hip Hop movement (if looked at as it s meant to be looked at) plays a very
positive role throughout the political and social spectrums in America, and is... Show more content

However, that is exactly the problem that most groups face today. There are literally hundreds of
organizations that have lofty goals, such as the HHC, but they don t have the resources necessary
to unite the Hip Hop movement into an actual force. Nor do they have the leadership or the
exposure necessary to overcome that major obstacle. Right now the Hip Hop movement is just a
vague notion, but with the right leadership it can become a dagger to be held to the throats of the
people in power to demand equality for all people in America and eventually throughout the world.
The fact that the Hip Hop movement is often equated with something negative such as anti black
images, drugs, violence, and sex definitely detracts from the power of the movement. It strips the
power the movement gains from its noble ambitions В– the heart of the movement. But unless the
public understands there is a difference between what the media portrays the Hip Hop movement as
and what the movement actually stands for, nothing will change. No progress will be made. Suzy

hip hop, choosing to focus on the often misogynistic lyrics, flashy and

Identity
You will always be Esperanza. You will always be Mango Street. You can t erase what you know.

there was a lot of racial discrimination. All brown all around, we are safe. But watch us drive into

Body Language Of A Silent Film
Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early
1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of
truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a
comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey
their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body
language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr.
This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming
the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct
expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton
specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl
(Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective
is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton
goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the
audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He
shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This
was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story,
particularly when

Reimbursement Alimony Research Paper
Do you believe reimbursement alimony is appropriate? Explain why or why not? To be honest I
do not quite understand this whole alimony problem. Based on our book reimbursement alimony
seeks to repay a spouse who worked during the marriage so that the other spouse could obtain
training or otherwise enhance his or her future earning capacity. Based on sample in our book I
do not see anything wrong with this reimbursement alimony. If one spouse enroll in school and
the other helps to pay for tuition and afterword the marriage fails apart, that I believe the spouse
who was going to school should paid back to the spouse for all the financial help provided. I
believe that is just the right thing to do to be fair. Do you believe rehabilitative

Employee Silence And Promoting Free Environment
INTRODUCTION Employees in today s society play a crucial role in the success of organizations.
They possess critical abilities of exerting creativity, innovation and change. Yet these sources of
success are not always applied, due to silence in the workplace. Breaking this employee silence and
promoting free climate to encourage speaking up are obstacles managers face. The degree of
communication and connection between managers and employees in organizations is vital when
determining organizational outcomes. Detert and Burris (2016) has found that an organization has
lower turnover rates and increased performance when employees expressed out their opinions, but
in most cases they choose the passive position of staying silent. According to... Show more content

As claimed by Dyne, Ang and Botero, there are three specific forms of employee silence.
Acquiescent silence This silence, represents those who restrict voicing out relevant ideas,
information and opinions. They choose to become have no affiliation with a given situation
thinking that it could be futile to change or also have low self efficacy about personal abilities to
change a situation. Acquiescent silence is more passive and involves disengaging behavior,
Defensive Silence Defensive silence, is silence like of acquiescent silence, where employees
withhold relevant ideas and information but is done intentionally as a form of self protection from
fear and other negative consequences. Pro Social Silence Pro social silence is a form of silence,
also associated with withholding ideas and information and opinions but with an objective of
benefiting people and the organization they work for. It is a behavior that requires awareness and
considerations of the alternatives and conscience decision to withhold ideas. Outcomes of
Employee Silence Donaghey, Cullinane, Dundon and Wilkinson (1994) describes employee silence

Grade Level Observation
There time is scheduled based on the student grade levels. Since there is a teacher and two aides
in this classroom, each teacher is assigned a grade level lunch hour. For example, Mrs. Whaley

grade lunch hour and Mrs. Beaver has lunch during the fifth grade lunch hour. Both of the aides
are also assigned to a lunch duty. They are to supervise the playground during recess. Recess

provides math instruction for every grade level (at different times in the afternoon), while Mrs.
Beaver and Mrs. Jordan provide additional math help. For example, Mrs. Jordan is able to sit in
during 3rd grade math instruction, but once the 3rd graders are done they go to a different table
to work on accelerated math with Mrs. Beaver and Mrs. Jordan goes to a different table to
provide students with math one on one. Often times, Mrs. Jordan works with individuals to
improve their math fact fluency. I was not surprised to know that the aides do not leave the

remain in the room with the students at all times. For a Jr. Achievement Day, the students we have

Peter Pan Syndrome Essay
Neverland is a paradise in Barrie s story, in which children will able to fly and never grow up. A
lot of fantasy creatures like fairies and mermaids that every girl has dreamed of are living in there.
Boys, on the other hand, can experience the adventure with Native Americans and pirates. Peter
Pan, as the earliest and the captain of lost boys, is adored by generations. However, later in twenty
century, Dr. Dan Kiley interpreted Peter Panin a different way. His book, The Peter Pan Syndrome:
Men Who Have Never Grown Up, which was published in 1983 has categorized the characteristics
of Peter Pan and detailedly discussed the psychological situation that an adult is socially immature.
He named this condition the Peter Pan syndrome. And later sections in the book, several treatments
were given to cure this syndrome.
According to Kiley, that the symptoms of the peter pan syndrome could be classified into 6 aspects,
which are irresponsibility, anxiety, lonely, gender roleconflict, narcissism and machismo, and pirate

Catecholamines and Cortisol Help to Fight Stress
When stress occurs, our bodies respond by releasing hormones that help our bodies deal with the
stress. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major
players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010).
Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its
metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an
increase in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010).
Gluconeogenesis is the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur
(McCance Huether, 2010). Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by
preventing cells in the body from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd,
n.d.). Catecholamines and cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood
pressure as well (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial
contractility, increasing heart rate, and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart
(McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that
epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to (Judd, n.d.). Cortisol and catecholamines both cause
lipolysis is some areas of the body. This occurs in the extremities with cortisol, but most areas of the
body with catecholamines (McCance Huether, 2010). Strangely enough, both

Essay on criminal law esssay
English law has been subject to being described as unprincipled and inconsistent in its approach to
the question of whether the failure to act is a sufficient basis for criminal liability. This is due to a
range of factors an example of which being the collection of convictions passed to defendants who
have been charged with a crime, which did not involve a positive or direct action. In addition for
those who have not been convicted, it is questionable whether the law is unprincipled as it is
unclear about the moral obligationthat individuals have to act and when a moral obligation is a
legal obligation. There is also uncertainty regarding what is a sufficient basis for criminal liability
as each case is different and it is difficult to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lord Diplock stated, I see no rational ground for excluding from conduct capable of giving rise to
criminal liability conduct which consists of failing to take measures that lie within one s powers to
counteract a danger that one has created 3. This statement emphasises that the focus is the danger
created however the crime is damaging property thus the argument being used to prove his guilt
does not quite match the crime as no one beside himself would have been harmed. In fact, ВЈ800 of
damage was done thus maybe a fine would have been more appropriate sanction than a sentence. It
can thus be suggested that the law requires individuals to put right that which goes wrong 4 and in
not doing so, the defendant may have become a victim of the judges morals impacting the case
ultimately suggesting that although there is no written law, individuals are essentially forced into
behaving in a manner which would be considered noble. This also suggest that the law is
unprincipled in its approach to deciding weather the failure to act should result in criminal liability.
The case of R v Stone, R v Dobinson further supports this argument as the defendants have also
been convicted on the failure to act, however, it could be argued that in comparison to Miller, Stone
and Dobinson have no direct cause of the incident. According to Ashworth, there are three

Social Deviance Essay
When it comes to the hypothetical and useless questions that people often think of, one of the
most persistent ponderings is what would someone do if they were to achieve a very high level
of power such as a being a king. So how would I make such classifications of behaviors that were
to be deemed as deviant from the social norms of my kingdom? That is a question that proved to
be quite intriguing to me as a set forth to come up with a system regarding social deviance. My
ultimate conclusion was the laws regarding such deviance would be limited only to those at which
lead to the violation of the negative rights of others. This would include things such as rape, assault,
and kidnapping in addition to non violent aggressions such as stealing... Show more content on

My reasoning is that many forms social deviance are acts which ultimately are extremely
subjective or relative in terms of their nature. For example, saying things that are perceived as
racist in nature is widely viewed as being deviant of the social norms since they are incredibly
offensive in nature. Thus many areas even have created laws to combat such racist speech since
it defies the social order and also is said to incite people. However such deviance of social norms
(by saying racist comments) is quite relative since there are many contexts where such supposed
racist speech could be within what some would call the social norm depending on how such
speech is handled. One example that I think of would be Ice Cube s classic album Death
Certificate which contains the song Black Korea. The song was removed from the United
Kingdom s release as they felt that the content of the song would be classified as a violation of
laws against racial incitement (which is viewed as being against the social norm in the area). In
some sense finding the song to be a deviant of social standards is quite normal since the language
of the song is very strong and includes language that obviously would be found as offensive to
those of Asian descent. So should the song be banned due to racial incitement that goes against the
social norms ( IT S NOT A BLACK THING ,

can be seen in the paper by applying a powerful status to the in group which are the urban cities

Phil Ochs Song Power And The Glory
Timeless Protest One true test of a classic song is that it stands the test of time. Does the theme
of the song resonate to the modern audience? Do the lyrics engage and motivate the listener to
action? Or is the song just a historic footnote from an era long ago? While times may change and
people evolve, there are certain basic human elements and emotions that will always remain the
same. Major themes such as true love, death, or justice speak to the audience as much as today
as they did hundreds of years ago. For example, in Phil Ochs song Power and the Glory, he has
created a clear example of a classic song with a central theme that is as important today as when it
was first written. In just a few short minutes, Ochs creates within... Show more content on

The use of a parallel structure accomplishes several goals within the song. First, it helps to create
a rhythm in the song and move it along. More importantly, it enables Ochs to emphasize and
highlight specific information. For example, the first verse of the song uses the phrase walk
through over and over. He sings Walk through the meadows and the mountains and the sand.
Walk through the valleys and the rivers and the plains. Walk through the sun and walk through
the rain. The repetition of this phrase followed by images of the natural beauty of America
emphasizes the greatness of the nation. Later in the song the phrase only as is repeated in very
much the same way. Ochs sings that America is only as rich as the poorest of the poor. Only as
free as the padlocked prison door. Only as strong as our love for this land. Only as tall as we
stand. Here he again uses parallel structure to present a very important message to the audience.
However this time it is a challenge central to the song. Ochs tells the listener that all of the
natural beauty in America is worthless if others are needlessly imprisoned or impoverished. He
tells the audience that unless they work to make all men free, no one is really free. In his song
Ochs uses parallelism to create a song that is pleasing to hear, but most importantly he uses it to
drive home a powerfully persuasive point about equality in

Visual Pleasure And Narrative Cinema
From an issue that was discussed in class, we discussed about the gaze. In Laura Mulvey s Visual
Pleasure and Narrative Cinema she discusses about scopophilia, which is the pleasure in looking
which also incorporates exhibitionism (pleasure in being looked at). This term also applies to
cinema. She focuses on the idea of the male gazein cinema, where films are created in favor of the
male audience. Thus the action of cinema compromises of women as image, man are bearer of
the look . Mulveys states that women in the film industry are catogarized on two levels, where
woman are seen as erotic objects for the characters within the film and also erotic objects for the
spectators of the film. She then moves on to criticize famed director Alfred Hitchcocks film Rear
Windowfor how he portrayed woman in the film. Alfred Hitchcock s movie correlates to Mulvey
s ideas which support her theories of scopophilia and voyeurism in cinema, she believed that the
film exploits the male gaze and how it antagonises woman in an anti feminism manner. In the film,
the main actor is restricted in his apartment due to his broken leg from his latest assigned project.
He spends most of his time watching his neighbours from his window and later comes to suspect
one of his neighbour murdering his bed ridden wife when we suddenly disappears from sight.
Hitchcock successfully implies voyeurism through main actor James Stewart s character in the film,

Native American Boarding Schools During the Westward Expansion
People know about the conflict between the Indian s cultures and the settler s cultures during the
westward expansion. Many people know the fierce battles and melees between the Indians and the
settlers that were born from this cultural conflict. In spite of this, many people may not know about
the systematic and deliberate means employed by the U.S. government to permanently rid their
new land of the Indians who had lived their own lives peacefully for many years. There are many
strong and chilling reasons and causes as to why the settlers started all of this perplexity in the first
place. There was also a very strong and threatening impact on the Native Americans... Show more

These native peoples, first mislabeled as Indians by an explorer named Christopher Columbus,
divided themselves into many different tribes, each with its own government, language, traditions
and religions. Europeans, who slowly poured into the Indian s land, did not respect the Indians
beliefs, interrupted their peaceful life and would do almost anything to get the land to them selves.
The settlers also believed the land that both the Indians and the settlers lived on was theirs to
themselves. They began to push the Native Americans off of their own land. Many of them fought
back to keep their homes, some succeeded, some didn t.
By the 1800 s most of the Native Americans signed a treaty with the European American
government. The results left the Native Americans on small pieces of land called reservations in
exchange for their land and peace. The European Americans promised that they would give the
Indians living on the reservations food, water, money and education for the children. Most of these
promises were not kept.
White man s schooling of the Native Americans helped cause the disintegration of the beliefs,
customs and ways of life of the natives residents of Turtle Island . One of the sources that helped
their culture vanish, not completely, were the Native American boarding schools. The boarding
schools put the Native Americans through so much pain,

Student Loans Analysis

undergraduate career. For those deemed sufficiently needy, $23,000 of this total can take the form
of subsidized loans. A student cannot take out this full amount in a single year; there are also
annual limits on borrowing (of $2,625 to $7,500 depending upon the student s undergraduate
standing) (Financial Aid Office, 2013). Another change of student loans program is the
introduction of revised PLUS loans in 1992 that taking out the $4,000 cap, parents were allowed
to borrow up to the full cost of attendance, including room and board for full time students.
Regardless of need, these loans are open to the parents of all collegestudents. Requiring a... Show

Realistic and Magical Elements of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is a renowned short story written by Gabriel Garcia
Marquez. It was published in 1955. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was born and spent his childhood in
Colombia but has lived in Paris and Mexico. As for the work that made him famous, A Very Old
Man with Enormous Wings is considered by most an archetype of Magical Realism.
When reading A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, one comes across many elements of
Magical Realism. A good specimen of Magical Realism is the old man with wings. An old man is

A great example of how capitalism, being a realistic trait, is normally incorporated with all
things. Father Gonzaga is a realistic factor one must take into account. Religion is for the most
part a realistic matter. Even though religion itself is not proven, or always expectable, the fact
remains that most people look towards people of religion for guidance. This being the case Father
Gonzaga, who is a man of religion, would be considered a realistic element.
There is no purpose to the Magical Realism elements illustrated in A Very Old Man With
Enormous Wings . Let us keep in mind that in these Magical Realist works the author does not
need to justify the mystery of the events, as the fantastic writer has to (Leal 119 124). The events
happening within Gabriel Garcia Marquez s work flow unrestrained over the pages. The past events
do not dictate the future events. There is no avalanche effect in Marquez s short novel. Nothing
depends or is decided on one single event. Motions are carried out with out control or authority.
The characters involved in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings treat the old man as an animal
or pest. Not aware of the possibility of a human having wings, they simply put the old man in a
chicken pen because he is a freak and an annoyance. The mere fact that the old man has wings
would send most people to their cellars because of a fear that the end of the world is near. As for the

The Fourth Amendment Of The United States Constitution

determining whether there was: a) the level of intrusion of the individuals Fourth Amendment, and
b) whether or not it pertains to the government s interest, such as safety of the public.

It is vital for law enforcement to determine whether a search warrant, arrest warrant, or both is
needed. When an arrest is to take place within a dwelling where reasonable privacy is expected,
law enforcement must determine whether or not the prospective arrestee lives there. If the person
to be arrested lives there, only an arrest warrant is needed. If the dwelling belongs to a third party,
an arrest warrant and a search warrant is necessary. In order to comply with the Fourth Amendment
s protection of privacy, police must secure the appropriate warrant(s) and knock and announce their
presence.
There are three exceptions as to when officers do not need search or arrest warrants and/or
announce their presence:
a)Consent: When asking permission to enter, consent may be voluntarily given to law enforcement,
as long as the person has authority to do so, e.g. the homeowner. Non residential landlords,
babysitters, caretakers, etc. lack authority to provide consent.
b)Exigent (emergency) situations: Exigent circumstances can exist when the officer believes one or
both of the requirements are present:
Endangerment to the lives or safety of the officer, suspect, or third party
Knocking and announcing may able the suspect to escape
Knocking and announcing may lead to the destruction of the evidence

Throughout the years they gained more and more spectators. It wasn t until the late 1950s and early 1960, that the NFL became America s leading spectator sport (McChesney 62). After the NFL reach being big in America, professional football attracted larger numbers of first rate college players and increased patronage made the league economically viable (Stelzer 4 5). The NFL also had some competition. The United States Football League (USFL), was a professional spring league, that would obtain some players from the NFL by paying them a higher salary (6). Consequently, after three years, the USFL folded, having all their players go to the NFL (6). The NFL then sought out to merge with the American Football League (AFL) in 1970. The champions from the AFL and NFL would meet to go against each in the AFL NFL World Championship Game (6). The name of that game was soon changed into what is now known as the Super Bowl (6). Hitler created prejudice against the Jews during World War II. Southerners discriminated against the Blacks, leading up to the Civil War, and during the Apartheid, the Natives were segregated from the Whites. In Alan Patons Cry, the Beloved the Country, the main character Stephen Kumalo goes through a journey to restore his tribe. During his journey, he discovers and learns of the injustices in South Africa. Through the parallels and contradictions of biblical allusions, Alan Paton is able to explain the impact of racial inequality in South Africa, but signifies how unconditional love and hope can be used to overcome fear and bring restoration to both the land and it s inhabitants. Arthur s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for equality. King Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the people. Paton states the church had been too small for all who wanted to come (181), and this is the ultimate representation of the respect that Arthur receives. King Arthur had the Knights of the Round Table where everyone at the table was seen as the same, while Arthur Jarvis wishes for sameness of both races and his death is seen as a major tragedy. The reader is able to learn about what many characters think of him in the aftermath of his death, this is a terrible loss for South Africa said the white priest. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The boys demonstrate this idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful (314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation. They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new post war generation to completely take over. Most of the time I won at the game so I would throw half of a game to create more of a challenge for me. I would wonder, where did the game come from, and who played it first. I never had the notion to look it up until now. From my research I had found that it is a very old game as old as 3000 B.C. The rules are simple: you place your checkers on the darker squares on your side of the board. You take turns moving the checkers diagonally towards your opponent. You take your opponents pieces by jumping your piece over theirs. You must jump when a jump presents itself. You can use any method for this you wish, flip a coin, alternate, etc. However, the most common method in amateur play is for one of the players to take one color checker in each hand and hold out his hands before him. The other player chooses a hand, the color checker in that hand determines the color with which he plays. The object is to eliminate all opposing checkers or to create a situation in which it is impossible for your opponent to make any move. Normally, the victory will be due to complete elimination. Black moves first and play proceeds alternately. From their initial positions, checkers may only move forward. There are two types of moves that can be made, capturing moves and non capturing moves. Non capturing moves are simply a diagonal move forward from one square to an adjacent square. (Note that the white squares are never used.) Capturing moves occur when a player jumps an opposing piece. This is also done on the diagonal and can only happen when the square behind (on the same diagonal) is also open. This means that you may not jump an opposing piece around a corner. On a capturing move, a piece may make multiple jumps. If after a jump a player is in a position to make another jump then he may do so. This means that a player may make several jumps in succession, capturing several pieces on a single ... However, it s more sensible to launch a boat in day light rather than in the dark, therefore the best for a good sailor to launch a boat would be 3:12pm. This shows an income inequality in the U.S because there is a huge gap between rich and poor. While the unemployment rate has decreased in the U.S, the gap between rich and poor in this country has dramatically increased. In this case strains refer to Giardia agilis, Giardia muris, and Giardia lamblia. To identify between the three main giardia strains (Giardia agilis, Giardia muris, and Giardia lamblia) requires scientists to look at tiny structural details to determine what specific strain they are dealing with (Feely and Erlandsen, 1985). For example: Giardia agilis has a more elongated body in comparison to the other two strains (Feely and Erlandsen, 1985). Giardia muris is increasingly difficult to distinguish from Giardia lamblia therefore they typically observe its preferred host (Finch, Black, Labatiuk, Gyurek, Belosevic,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is widely accepted and known that the parasite causes abnormal responses within the body leading to cases of diarrhea (Adam, 1991). A simple explanation of diarrhea is the loose and foul smelling bowel movements, including actual excretion (Adam, 1991). Diarrhea can begin once the giardia cyst(s) is ingested into the human body and travels through the digestive tract and reproduces in the small intestine (Adam, 1991; Gillin and Reiner, 1996). However, the estimated number of giardia cysts needed to be ingested to result in diarrhea is 10 cysts and the symptoms typically occur 6 to 15 days after initial ingestion, making it extremely difficult to determine the form(s) of transfer mechanisms involved (Ankarklev et al., 2010). The time lapse is needed to allow for cyst and trophozoite reproduction and growth (excystation) to overwhelm the body and cause the diarrhea (Ankarklev et al., 2010). The Federal Budget Process Essay Running head: The Federal Budget Process The Federal Budget Process Abstract This report focuses on the federal budget process of the United States of America. The annual federal budget begins with a detailed proposal from the President in February. The budget request is developed by the President s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Next, Congress creates a blueprint called a budget resolution that sets limits on how much each committee can spend (or reduce revenues) over the course of the year. The budget typically sketches out fiscal policy and budget priorities not only for the year but for the next five years or more. It is also accompanied by historical tables that set our past budget figures (Policy Basics, 2011 Para 4). The third role that the President s budget plays is that it can be used to alert Congress of what spending and tax policy changes the President recommends. It is not necessary for the President to propose legislative changes for those parts of the budget that are governed by permanent law if he feels none are needed (Policy Basics, 2011). Majority of the federal tax code is set in permanent law, and will not expire. • 31. Analysis Of Burial Rites By Hannah Kent Burial Rites is a novel based on a true story by Hannah Kent, which provides a voice to Agnes Magnusdottir, a convicted criminal who was executed for a crime she may or may not have committed. Kent conveys the historical genre through the novel and utilises setting in order to engage readers by including modes of communication, transport and the way of life in the 1800 s that are not commonly used anymore. Throughout the novel, Kent optimises dialogue through the use of old terms and utilising old court documents which placereaders in the 1800 s, engaging them in a historical event that has been silenced. Burial Rites explores the historical aspect of this compelling, real life tale through setting by using horses as transport, letters as communication and execution as a punishment for murder. Horses are no longer commonly used as a mode of transport and letters are generally no longer used as a form of communication, however, Kent optimises these historical features in her novel by including predominant ways of life in the 1800 s. This effectively engages the readers as it sets them in an alternative world. In the 1800 s, when Agnes life was taken not knowing if she was innocent or not, death was her sentence. Kent includes this within the novel to enhance the historical genre as in many countries of the world today, it is usually 20 years in prison for murder Setting functions to engage readers through placing them in a time and place foreign to them, as today, many ... • 32. The Works of Christina Rossetti There comes a time in life, when one realizes what is important. To some, the most important things in life come in a diamond embedded suitcase filled with the grand jewels of life: money, love, and leaving legacies. People seem to have one simple thought, that having money and love is the most important thing in life. However, that is not the case for Christina Rossetti. Her views on life are very realistic and matter of fact. She believes earthly gifts and human emotions are not important because none of it is permanent. She does not need money or love, and she does not care if she is remembered. Rossetti reveals what is most important to her her relationship with God, not her relationship with humanity. Rossetti displays what is important to her through her humble plea in Song . In the poem, she is neither depressed, nor joyful; she simply states what she believes. She believes that memorials and placing flowers on graves are not for the ones who are deceased, but for those they leave behind. She asks them not to show her any special attention, she will be dead and in death, one cannot feel, hear, speak, or think; therefore she will not be able to acknowledge their gestures. Her lack of sympathy towards her loved ones shows her detachment to material items as she rejects the love she will receive at the time of her death. Keeping the memory of a lost loved one is a way for the living to keep the deceased alive. When thinking of death, most are afraid that no one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tar Sands In Canada Oil and gas usage because of tar sands is now considered the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, which means it actually produces more greenhouse gas emissions in North America than all the CO2 from vehicles. The tar sands create both a noxious air quality, and a polluted water quality with bitumen (Greenpeace Canada; Semeniuk, 2016). This issue, in relation to Canada, is most problematic at the Alberta tar sands. The scientific consensus on this issue is that the tar sands not only has become one of the biggest emissions problems in Canada, but also that it has become a major health concern because of the misunderstood and unknown pollutants in the air (Greenpeace Canada; Semeniuk, 2016; Dr. Gosselin, Dr. Hrudey, Dr. Naeth, Dr. Plourde, Dr. Therrien, Dr. Van Der Kraak, Dr. Xu., 2010). There is also a general scientific consensus that this change in the air quality contributes to climate change. This change in air quality also creates a serious threat to humans. Because government organizations are the stakeholders with the majority of power, they play a pivotal role in conservation efforts. The site at Alameda Point has been greatly influenced by the government and government organizations. The United States Navy, which owned the property at Alameda Point until 1992, had participated in tern conservation. However, the Navy hindered the efforts to make the site into a wildlife refuge, by refusing to transfer the site to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The transfer refusal was mainly about site contaminants, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not want to accept responsibility for due to the fact that the Navy has a much larger budget than the Fish and Wildlife Service. The Navy later solicited the Department of Veterans Affairs, who needed modernized services for veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the transfer occurred in June of 2014. This resulted in 512 acres being set aside as a wildlife reserve, but without the protection that a national wildlife refuge entails (Feeney, pers comm, 2015). Although government organizations may serve to hinder conservation efforts, they can also play a major role in collaborating with non profit organizations. After many years of ruling, Saul had begun to stray away from the path of God, which eventually led to his downfall as king. One day Saul and the prophet Samuel were set to offer up a burned offering to the lord. But the act of offering the sacrifice was appointed to Samuel only because it was the duty gifted to a priest. God had instructed the israelites the proper way to offer up a sacrifice to him. Saul was to wait seven days until [Samuel came to him] and [told him] what [he was] to do. (KJV 1 Samuel 13:8). Instead of waiting, Saul took it upon himself to offer the sacrifice. This blatant act of disobedience offended God. Saul was instructed to wait for God to fulfil his promise. • 39. Hip Hop and Race Relations in America KRS One once said, Rap is something you do, Hip Hop is something you live. The difference between how Hip Hop is portrayed (rap) and what the Hip Hop movement is, is that Hip Hop is a lifestyle but the Hip Hop we see on television is a media creation. We have to look at hip hop as a whole culture and rap as something that comes out of it. Although Hip Hop was originated by a mostly Negro constituency, it has evolved since its creation into a worldwide forum through which family, community, social and political grievances (HHC) can be voiced through various art forms. Today, the Hip Hop movement (if looked at as it s meant to be looked at) plays a very positive role throughout the political and social spectrums in America, and is... There are literally hundreds of organizations that have lofty goals, such as the HHC, but they don t have the resources necessary to unite the Hip Hop movement into an actual force. Nor do they have the leadership or the exposure necessary to overcome that major obstacle. Right now the Hip Hop movement is just a vague notion, but with the right leadership it can become a dagger to be held to the throats of the people in power to demand equality for all people in America and eventually throughout the world. The fact that the Hip Hop movement is often equated with something negative such as anti black images, drugs, violence, and sex definitely detracts from the power of the movement. It strips the power the movement gains from its noble ambitions В– the heart of the movement. But unless the public understands there is a difference between what the media portrays the Hip Hop movement as and what the movement actually stands for, nothing will change. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was done using a tracking shot. • 48. Catecholamines and Cortisol Help to Fight Stress When stress occurs, our bodies respond by releasing hormones that help our bodies deal with the stress. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an increase in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010). Gluconeogenesis is the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur (McCance Huether, 2010). Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by preventing cells in the body from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd, n.d.). Catecholamines and cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood pressure as well (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial contractility, increasing heart rate, and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart (McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to (Judd, n.d.). This is due to a range of factors an example of which being the collection of convictions passed to defendants who have been charged with a crime, which did not involve a positive or direct action. In addition for those who have not been convicted, it is questionable whether the law is unprincipled as it is unclear about the moral obligationthat individuals have to act and when a moral obligation is a legal obligation. My reasoning is that many forms social deviance are acts which ultimately are extremely subjective or relative in terms of their nature. For example, saying things that are perceived as racist in nature is widely viewed as being deviant of the social norms since they are incredibly offensive in nature. Thus many areas even have created laws to combat such racist speech since it defies the social order and also is said to incite people. However such deviance of social norms (by saying racist comments) is quite relative since there are many contexts where such supposed racist speech could be within what some would call the social norm depending on how such speech is handled. One example that I think of would be Ice Cube s classic album Death Certificate which contains the song Black Korea. The song was removed from the United Kingdom s release as they felt that the content of the song would be classified as a violation of laws against racial incitement (which is viewed as being against the social norm in the area). In some sense finding the song to be a deviant of social standards is quite normal since the language of the song is very strong and includes language that obviously would be found as offensive to those of Asian descent.
