Essay on Life, Death, What Dreams May Come
Unconditional love can be described as a pure affection bereft of circumstance. It is a true positive
regard of others that bares no judgment. In a sense, unconditional love has no boundaries. In the
film What Dreams May Come, the boundary between life and death fades and a family s bond is
tested. Tragedy by tragedy, unconditional loveand guiltplay major roles in the defiance of the laws
of death. Chris Nielsen, the main character of the film, travels to the depths of the afterlife to find
his beloved wife Annie and restore his family. In an epic journey that questions the very fabric of
reality and faith, the Nielson family overcomes all odds and is reunited in the end. Throughout the
film, unconditional love is represented in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nielson s genuine compassion for their young makes it exceptionally difficult to lose Marie
and Ian later on. When both children are killed in a car accident on the way to school, the chain
of misfortune begins to claim the family. Annie, who had the nanny bring the kids to school that
morning due to a work commitment, blamed herself for the loss of her children. When the lives
of children are taken too soon, it is as if they are cheated of having a chance at life, and the parents
are punished for no reason. Upon realizing this, Annie is institutionalized for depression and
suicidal tendencies. The film clearly shows Annie s devastation by her appearance. Her long, brown
hair is now chopped short and she smokes cigarettes. This physical deterioration coincides with the
emotional trauma that occurs when a child dies. The loss of her children infected her heart with an
unwarranted guilt that made her question her faith in herself, her religion, and her marriage. When
Chris mentions getting a divorce because she is so lifeless, she realizes that losing the only love
left in her life would kill her. Their unconditional love is strengthened by the loss and Annie learns
to forgive herself over time. Forgiveness is often the first step, whether in saving a marriage or a
long term emotional healing process. The next life that is lost occurs on the

The competition is basically on price and profits. Other small and private carriers are also
competing with FedEx (Foust, 2003).
Strengths
Major strength of FedEx is its fastest home delivery service among all courier companies.
Customer base of FedEx is its one major strength but proper attention should be paid to maintain it
properly.
Another huge privilege which FedEx possess is its Smart Post option which allows it to utilize e
commerce to carry out the courier delivery services.
It has gained the position of 2nd largest LTL carrier in US and thus has gained much popularity
among its clients.
It s well established online courier tracking services are gaining more and more popularity in recent
times thus allowing the clients to attract towards the company more easily.
Innovation is one big advantage which FedEx carries and thus it keeps on innovating new solutions
for client s problems.
Weaknesses
One big weakness of FedEx is its inability in maintaining its competitive position in the marketing
especially in comparison to its big competitor named UPS.
Not completely but high costs are also making its success a bit away because competitors offer
such packages at low rates.
Although it is efficient but sometimes quality of services does not satisfy clients which in case
make the customer base decrease at a slower pace but it is still dangerous for the company.

that is what they are seeing everyday on the television. The kids want to be them celebrities in
sports that make all them millions of dollars right out of high school or after one or two years in
college. High school kids that is in poverty, develop their own version of the American Dream ,
where they make it big as a professional, and never have to worry about money again. But the
problem with it is as we will see through the research and statistics, that the possibility of even
making a living out of being a professional athlete is very unlikely and what some of the result
can be is damaging to feelings of self worth and positive outlook. So let us look in to some
numbers. The three major revenue earning sports in America are, baseball, football, and
basketball in no particular order. Only 1 in 736 of the high school players in these sports actually
make it to the pros, that is 0.0014 %. That is a crazy number, and with the statistics so against the
possibility of becoming a professional athlete, it s surprising how many young people and
especially males, who choose to put all their focus and effort on a sports career. There are many
reasons, but the main one lay on the fact that these statistics be going unreported by media and the
mainstream education, and are unseen for the younger people. What the major media corporation

Retail Management
Introduction to Retail
Retail comes from the French word retailler, which refers to cutting off my hands, clip and divide
in terms of tailoring (1365). It first was recorded as a noun with the meaning of a sale in small
quantities in 1433 (French). Its literal meaning for retail was to cut off, shred, off my toes paring
.[2] Like the French, the word retail in both Dutch and German (detailhandel and Einzelhandel
respectively), also refers to the sale of small quantities of items.
Retail consists of the sale of goods or merchandise from a fixed location, such as a department
store, boutique or kiosk, or by mail, in small or individual lots for direct consumption by the
purchaser.[1] Retailing may include subordinated services, such ... Show more content on

Types of Retail Outlets
A marketplace is a location where goods and services are exchanged. The traditional market
square is a city square where traders set up stalls and buyers browse the merchandise. This kind of
market is very old, and countless such markets are still in operation around the whole world.
In some parts of the world, the retail business is still dominated by small family run stores, but this
market is increasingly being taken over by large retail chains.
Retail is usually classified by type of products as follows: * Food products * Hard goods ( hardline
retailers ) appliances, electronics, furniture, sporting goods, etc. * Soft goods clothing, apparel, and
other fabrics.
There are the following types of retailers by marketing strategy: * Department stores very large
stores offering a huge assortment of soft and hard goods; often bear a resemblance to a
collection of specialty stores. A retailer of such store carries variety of categories and has broad
assortment at average price. They offer considerable customer service. * Discount stores tend to
offer a wide array of products and services, but they compete mainly on price offers extensive
assortment of merchandise at affordable and cut rate prices. Normally retailers sell less fashion
oriented brands. However the service is inadequate.; * General merchandise store a hybrid between

The Mormon Service I Visited
The Mormon service I visited, had a few similarities but also a few distinct differences from the
Catholic service that I am used to. Before this particular Sunday, I had never attended a Mormon
service, nor had I spoken to anyone who believed in Mormonism or the Latter Day Saints. With
that being said, I was welcomed much more openly than I had originally thought. Before
entering, I was approached by two members of the church; two young women (sisters) between
the ages of roughly 19 to 22. I arrived about an hour before service, that way I could ask a few
people some questions, but the two girls beat me to the punch. They initially asked me if I had
visited before and I responded saying that it was my first time, and I was attending as a student
observer, with no intention of converting, but would love to learn about the faith. They nodded and
proceeded to explain to me the reasons as to why they believed so strongly, and also a bit of
background information on the faith. One of the girls, explained to me that there has been a lot of
skepticism about Mormonismdue in part to the fact that Joseph Smith Jr, was so young and how
his explanation of Moroni (An angel no one had ever heard of), and his entire religion and the
scripture used, Book of Mormon, could have just been a part of his imagination. The other girl told
me how she was beginning to lose faith a couple years back, but she then regained it, after she
experienced her own tests, and was able to get passed her

Advantages Of Star Wars Movies
Space, it s the final frontier. However, even now, many science fiction fanatics and casual
watchers alike will argue about which frontier is superior: the Star Wars films, or the Star Trek
television franchise. While the Star Wars movies are not bad, there are several reasons as to why
the Star Trek series are better. From instances of technology, to plot, to character, even to cultural
influence, I wholeheartedly believe that Star Trek is light years better than Star Wars. First released
in 1977, the Star Wars movies are good, and that is all. At the time, the films were regarded as
storytelling and special effect masterpieces, but forty years later, those feats that once defined them
are no longer special. Though thought by some to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic
Empire.
Already, they specifically label the Galactic Empire as villainous and introduce the Rebel
alliance as the heroes. While the idea of a battle of good and evil is not a bad one, it is not new,
and it is not as complex or relatable as the progressive Star Trek plot. In addition to plot, Star
Trek has also had numerous characters with many layers of depth. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker
is the protagonist boyish hero with a tragic motivation. That is the only defining point to his
characterization. He wants to be a hero for the sake of being a hero, whether it s in Episode IV
and he s bargaining to go to the Academy, or in Episode V when he leaves his Jedi training. In Star
Trek:The Next Generation, we meet Captain Jean Luc Picard, a man motivated by the pursuit of
knowledge and the good of not only humanity, but all life. More than that, he has interests beyond
that in art, history, literature, architecture. I will give Star Wars the exception of the complexity
Darth Vader, however he is the only exception.
The female characters of Star Trek are also not only more in depth, but also numerous, featuring
protagonists such as Uhura, Jadzia Dax, B Elanna Torres, Kira Nerys, Seven of Nine, and Captain
Janeway, all main

The important thing is to never stop questioning. In science you must question everything and
work to find the answer. The definition of the speed of something in a given direction. So when a
car is moving north how fast it s moving would be its velocity. When the mass of an object is
changed it can change the velocity. Massis the amount an object weighs. In this experiment I took
the mass of carts and changed them to observe their change in velocity.s. The law of conservation

Abstract: In this paper a hybrid technique is used for determining the face from an image. Face
detection is one of the tedious job to achieve with very high accuracy. In this paper we proposed a
method that combines two techniques that is Orthogonal Laplacianface (OLPP) and Particle
Swarm Optimization (PSO). The formula for the OLPP relies on the Locality Preserving Projection
(LPP) formula, which aims at п¬Ѓnding a linear approximation to the Eigen functions of the
astronomer Beltrami operator on the face manifold. However, LPP is non orthogonal and this
makes it difficult to reconstruct the information. When the set of features is found by the OLPP,
with the help of the PSO, the grouping of the image features is done and the one with the best
match from the database is given as the result. This hybrid technique gives a higher accuracy in less
processing time.

An Outline Of The Veggies ( And Fruits ! ) For Seniors...
With the exploding population of senior citizens occurring at this time, we are seeing a
commensurate explosion in health problems with are causing a taxing burden on the health care
system. Health conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, kidney failure and
others are expensive to treat, and oftentimes they are fatal. However, diet is a major contributor
to many of these problems. The Veggies (and Fruits!) for Seniors Health Promotion Project is
designed to bring to the attention of seniors the need to consume a diet high in fruits and
vegetables as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. This summary will quantify the problem,
provide an outline of the Veggies (and Fruits!) for Seniors program, along with cooperating
partners, and propose objectives that should be accomplished once this project is executed. The
senior population continues to grow much faster than it has in any generation in the history of the
United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census (2008), the anticipated growth of the
population 60 and over in the U.S. is expected to grow from just under 55 million in the 2010
census to 72 million in the 2020 census. This represents a 13% increase in the aging population in
just a 10 year period. To add to this, we are currently experiencing what the National Institute on
Aging (2015) characterizes as a dramatic increase in life expectancy. This means that there are
more seniors than ever and more older seniors than

As a student enters the gym doors of Smith Cotton they can see various trophies from our
athletic teams, along with our JROTC National Championship banners that hang up from the
walls. One can see by the quality of our gym that our sports are a main part of our school, but as
one wonders on into the hallways of our school, they can see how dull they are. By the plainness
of the walls, there seems to be no life, in the JROTC hallway you see the trophy cabinet full of
multiple national trophies and as you venture on you get to see images of what these teams do,
along with the bulletin board that shows newspaper articles of the success of the program. But as
you continue to walk toward the other side of the classroom, one can only see some bulletin
boards that do not have many things on them except for some advertising. Just by observing this,
a new student can see that our school has a great deal to do with sports, but what they cannot see
is how well this school performs academically. As we walk down the halls you rarely see a student

trophy case would suggest to the innocent visitor that he was entering an athletic club, not an

Some of the time the gift is simply wisdom (Campbell). The quote from The Odyssey is supported
by the quote from the Hero s Journey because Athena, a goddess, is a supernatural element, and
helps Odysseus by providing him information about the situation at his palace. Athena helps
Odysseus with the means to complete his adventure by preparing him for his supreme ordeal.
Odysseus must overcome his ultimate challenge, the supreme ordeal, in order to finish his
journey. Odysseus has to kill the suitors that are trying to steal his wife and his kingdom. With
Athena s help, Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar to sneak into the castle. He then plans out
an attack on the suitors by trapping them in a room where he will kill them all off. After
Odysseus successfully completes the challenge to shoot an arrow through several axe handles,
he reveals himself and takes action on the suitors; he screams out You yellow dogs, you thought
I d never make it home from the land of Troy. You took my house to plunder (Homer, 610) Part 2.
The Hero s Journey identifies this is as the supreme ordeal as once the obstacle is overcome, the
tension will be relieved... the worst is passed, and the quest while not officially over, has
succeeded (Campbell). The Hero s Journey supports the quote mentioned from The Odyssey

Color Imagery In A Red Dress 1946 By Alice Munro
In A Red Dress 1946 , a short story by Alice Munro, uses the significance of color imagery
throughout the story. The color red represents nonconformity, standing out or being unique This
is because of the narrator s unwillingness to be a unique girl. However, the color blue represents
conformity, being able to blend in with society, and the ability to be like everyone else due to the
narrator s lack of courage to be unique and to be herself. Both of these colors point out different
aspects of the narrator s inner self and show how much she desires to hide her unique redself and
appear blue. Colorimagery is used throughout the short story, A Red Dress 1946 in order for the
author to demonstrate the inner thoughts of the narrator. In the short story, A Red Dress 1946
by Alice Munro, Color imagery is used for signifying a girls point of view of her world and her
own self by using the color red which represents nonconformity. The narrator has only a slight
interest in being red, but she really wants to be blue, just like everyone else. Munro writes, When
I was asked a question in class, any simple little question at all...that I had blood on my skirt .(2)
The narrator is just so nervous about being red she is thinking of bad things that can happen with
the color red. She is thinking of all the bad times the color red could do a girl badly, just like a girls
period could leak at any moment. In A Red Dress 1946 , a short story by Alice Munro, she uses
Color Imagery to show the significance of the narrator s view of the color red and all the Evil about
it.
In a short story by Alice Munro, A Red Dress 1946 , Color Imagery is used to represent the inner
feelings of the narrator and how she wants to be blue. The narrator s dream is to live a blue life,
a life where she is just like everyone else. Munro writes, when I was unaware of the world s
opinion. Now, grown wiser, I wished for dresses like those my friend Lonnie had, bought at
Beale s store (1). Lonnie is able to buy things like her dresses from stores which just makes the
narrator want to be blue. The narrator wants to be blue even more because of how Lonnie and

Why Were The Bolsheviks Successful In Seizing Power
Why were the Bolsheviks successful in seizing power? What were the forces and actions that made
them successful in seizing power in October/November 1917?
Prior to the 1917 Revolutions, there was constant unsettlement within Russia; there was a struggle
for food, a struggle for economic control and a struggle for a stable government. The February
Revolution brought an end to Tsar Nicholas II reign and emerged was a Provisional Government
based on democratic ideals. Despite the Provisional Government s success in implementing civil
liberties, the Duma kept Russia in the First World War which not only continued the depletion of
natural resources, but also heightened the discontent from citizens among all social classes. The
Kulaks fought for land ownership and fought against conscription while the nobles and aristocracy

Killing The Albatross
At the begging of the poem the ancient Mariner and shipmates believed the Albatross to be
heavenly. At length did cross an Albatross,
Through the fog it came;
As if it had been a Christian soul,
We hailed it in God s name. (Page 200)
They associated the wind picking up with the Albatross arrival and though that is was god that
made his presents to help them in the form of the Albatross. Yet, when the fog creeped in the

Effects Of Social Class On Unethical Behavior
Effect of Social Class on Unethical Behavior
Both social class and ethical behavior are important notions in our society today and have been
for many years. Unethical behavior can be defined as behavior or actions that hurts others and
are illegal or ethically questionable (Piff et al., 2012). CNN recently reported Volkswagen is
being charged with deception regarding emissions of supposedly clean vehicles. They reported
that for over ten years more than eleven million vehicles have been deliberately programmed to
fabricate emissions of damaging pollutants under certified testing conditions (Tellado, 2015). Why
are consumers so concerned and outraged at this fraud? This upsets consumers and others because
they care about and find ethics and morality to be important. Morals and values are important in
our society because they help direct people s lives and motivate people to take part in meaningful
relationships. The research completed for his article examines not just ethical behavior but also the
role social class playing in determining ethical behavior. The relationship between these to
notions will examined by observing behavior at a crosswalk. Social class is defined as a
circumstance established by both the material substance of social life and the individual s
understanding of his or her social rank, and is a fundamental feature of how he or she interacts in
the social world (Kraus et al., 2012). Clothing type was used to operationalize social class in this

Theme Of Security In George Orwell s Oceania, Big Brother

Are our calls or messages private?, or even Is someone listening to our conversation?. As
technology has advanced, so has the opportunity for the government to view upon us, and invade
our privacy to keep an eye on us or view criminals before any crime occurs. With this type of

George Orwell was written if we had taken the route of security.
1984 by George Orwell depicts Oceania as bleak, low spirited society controlled by the government

?
Mark Twain is a pen name of Samuel Longhorne Clemens, one of the greatest novelist in the
twentieth century. As an American writer who was born in Missouri, Twain worked mainly as a
printer for local newspapers and as a riverboat pilot in his early career. Such experience provided
him the setting for two of his great works: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and its sequel,
The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn(1885), ?the great American novel?. These two works reflected
Twain?s attitude towards slavery, civil rights and anti imperialism. His life was concluded as ?the
greatest American humorist in his age,? by New York Times and ?the father of American literature?
by William Faulkner.

This book, in my opinion, talked about freedom through the change of attitude towards black slave,
Jim. Talking about background, although Twain wrote?Huckleberry Finn?two decades after the
Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War, America?and especially the South?was
still struggling with racism and the after effects of slavery.?By describing the change of attitude
towards Jim, Twain reached his target, supporting anti slavery.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,?The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?concerns itself primarily
with painting an idyllic picture of boyhood life along the Mississippi River. Though Twain satirizes
adult conventions throughout? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,?he leaves untouched certain larger
issues that? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?explores critically: the problem of slavery, was
mentioned indirectly in the Tom but was directly depicted in Huckleberry by using a character: Jim.
In conclusion, these two great novels remain the most popular works because of Twain?s diction and

Potatoes At Room Temperature
Introduction (background information, purpose and hypothesis)
We know that enzymes are protein that helps to breakdown different molecules. But what if
enzymes can be breakdown? Most enzymes need homeostasis environment to survive. Well we all
know that as the amount of temperature increases the less the enzymes .Enzymes can be denatured
using temperature, PH and salt concentration. As we know that protein structure are determined by
DNA coding. We used temperature to see if increasing or decreasing temperature affected the
amount of enzyme produced. So when the temperature is increased there will be more amount of
enzymes denature due to high temperature and it would be opposite of temperature was dropped.
And a denatured protein is biologically inactive hence it needs a homeostasis environment.
Hydrogen peroxide is used for metabolic processes. The main purpose of this lab was to see that if
increase in temperature resulted in denaturing of enzymes and comparing the time for h2o2 to
bubble when using apples, onions and potatoes at room temperature. So the main questions for this
lab were how does temperature affect the amount of enzyme present in potatoes? Will there be any
change in amount of bubbles produced if apples and onions were used with potatoes at room
temperature?

Should Obese People Pay Higher Health Insurance Premiums...
Writing Assignment #3: Should obese people pay higher health insurance premiums than people
who are not obese? Rishard Rheyas Obesity has become a serious problem with more than one
third of adults being obese in the United States. Obesity is seen as a self destructive behavior
accompanied with smoking and use of other drugs thus, government officials and other business
bureaucrats expressed the need to impose higher health insurance premiums on the obese. Obesity
is not always due to the personal behavior of people and can be linked with the environment and

David Zinckenko argues in his article don t blame the eater , that it is a matter of personal
responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and
information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about
healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost
for a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of
environment it can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the
comparison with the automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most
high end vehicles and also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end
vehicles have a certain type of brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance
companies. The youth are charged higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to
accidents as suggested with smokers and obese individuals with diseases. The government and
other respective officials imposing this would mean that obesity is termed a disease which would
force individuals to try to become thinner. This could lead to dangerous diseases such as anorexia.
The difference is mainly because health insurance has a closer link to our economy and human life
as compared to automobile insurance. Individuals should be given rights to decide what they would
like as with the automobile insurance wherein

xxLEARNING AND MEMORY Learning is the process of gaining knowledge or skills through

changes in the possible behaviour of an individual in a given situation, in order to achieve a goal.
Memory is a property of the human mind. It describes the ability to retain information. There are
different types of classifications for memory based on duration, nature and retrieval of items. The
generally accepted classification of memory is based on how long you can remember an item or

from its curved shape, which supposedly resembles that of a seahorse. Doctors and scientists
dispute the exact role of the hippocampus, but agree that it has an essential role in the formation
of new memories about personally experienced events. Some researchers prefer to consider the
hippocampus as part of a larger medial temporal lobe memory system responsible for declarative
memory. When a long term, declarative memory is made, certain neuronal connections in the
temporal lobe are strengthened, and others are weakened. These changes are fairly permanent,

The Best Graduate School For Me
Introduction
As a junior at Iowa State University pursuing a B.S. degree in Animal Ecology with an emphasis
in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, it is time for me to look into my future. I have considered
going right into employment, but I think that getting a Master of Science degree is more
beneficial to me. Most companies require Fish Biologists to have an M.S. degree and eventually
that s what I would like to be. In this report I discuss, analyze, and choose the best graduate school
for me based on the final score of criteria ratings per three graduate schools of my choice. The
purpose of this analysis, is to analyze three companies and evaluate them based on my goals and
preferences, to determine which one will be best for me. The graduate schools I chose for this
analysis are the State University of New York, Graduate Schoolof Clemson, and Warner Collegeof
Natural Resources at Colorado State University. I chose these schools because they offer my
program of study for a M.S. degree in a field that relates to my B.S. degree from Iowa State
University. Likewise, these are schools I have considered after speaking with my academic advisor
from Iowa State University.
Evaluation Criteria
Before I chose a graduate school, I determined what my criteria is. My criteria is the location of
the school, tuition cost, and graduation rate. For location, I want to be as close to family and
friends as possible as they are important to me. With them being closer, I am able to

In the late nineteenth century, America was considered as a patriarchal society. Where males had
all control and women worked as their slave. Women were to support all decisions, cook, clean,
conceive children, teach, and remain silent. Women has continuously remained a lower standard
than men. Still today, womankind is assumed of as unintelligent, inadequate, weak minded, and

For instance, in the beginning of the story, Mrs. Penn constantly askes Mr. Penn, why is he

this behavior because women are not supposed to become a speaking subject. For this reason,
Sarah explains to Nanny one of these days you ll find out, an then you ll know only what men

Another problem Sarah faces is different visions. Men and women only agree completely when it s

CHAPTER 3 : MONEY AND CREDIT
Money is a fascinating subject and full of curiosities. It is important to capture this element for the
students. The history of money and how various forms were used at different times is an interesting
story. At this stage the purpose is to allow students to realise the social situation in which these
forms were used. Modern forms of money are linked to the banking system. This is the central idea
of the first part of the chapter. The present situation in India, where newer forms of money are
slowly spreading with computerisation of the banking system, offers many opportunities to students
to explore on their own. We need not get into a formal discussion of the functions of money but ...

What a person desires to sell is exactly what the other wishes to buy. In a barter system where
goods are directly exchanged without the use of money, double coincidence of wants is an
essential feature. In contrast, in an economy where money is in use, money by providing the
crucial intermediate step eliminates the need for double coincidence of wants. It is no longer

1. How does the use of money make it easier to exchange things? 2. Can you think of some
examples of goods / services being exchanged or wages being paid through barter?
MODERN FORMS OF MONEY
We have seen that money is something that can act as a medium of exchange in transactions.
Before the introduction of coins, a variety of objects was used as money. For example, since the
very early ages, Indians used grains and cattle as money. Thereafter came the use of metallic coins
gold, silver, copper coins a phase which continued well into the last century. organisation

Stephen King Analysis
Stephen King was born in 1947 into a poor family that was later abandoned by his father. He
always had a passion for writing and became a high school teacher before he could kick start his
outstanding writing career says, Biography.com . Stephen King, a New York Times bestselling
novelist and one of the most well known authors of our time, was directly influenced by the
culture he grew up in and his own experiences in life. Here There Be Tygers is one of King s
earlier works and it emits strong similarities between the short storyand the culture he grew up in.
In 1974, a year after Stephen Kings mother died of cancer, King had published the short story
Sometimes They Come Back (DeFilippo 1). Around the same time, Stephen King s substance abuse
problem got worse. In The double edged pen: Omnipotent fantasies in the creativity and addictions
of Stephen King, King proposes, The death of his mother was one of the major factors that
propelled his drinking habits to another level (Kahoud 335). With those two things combined, death
and addiction, King was influenced. You can see this influence intermixed throughout the short
story Sometimes They Come Back and throughout many of his stories. In the story the tragedy of
his mother s cancer is seen throughout, for the main character s mother died of cancer as well
(King 2). The addiction is shown as well, through physical demons that drive the main character to
an eventual death. In the article, Stephen King: The

The Beginning Of The 21st Century
The 21st Century, the time period that we all live in today, smothered in continuous social,
economic and political issues. An interesting era for films of this genre is the late 1930 s to
early 1940 s which we see reflections in the literature today. War World 2 was a turning point in
history and was a time of sheer horror in many places such as Spain, Germany, Poland and Eastern
Europe. In today s age, contemporary literature writers often draw their inspiration and ideas from
the writers that have gone before them. As a result, many works of 21st literature face the events
and movements from the past in order for them to make sense of the present. The two connections
that are very apart in all four of my texts is power and control and the theme of hope. The way that
each of these connections have been linked throughout the late 1930 s time period based texts show
how important they are into understanding what is still happening in the 21st century. The texts that
I have chosen to study are The Book Thief , Pan s Labyrinth , The Pianist and Defiance . The
reason I have chosen to study these are to shed light onto why 21st century literature quite often
seem to take ideas from the past to help make sense for the future as you have to know the past to
understand the present.
As stated by James Meade In the 1930 s one was aware of two great evils mass unemployment and
the threat of war. The late 1930 s was a time of war, a time of distress and a time of loss.

Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt
Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the
river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with
begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern
lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two
kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the NileRiver.
Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and
replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on
this natural rhythm.
When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would
need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously
monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods.
On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt
was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally.
Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that
life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old
Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong
impression that death haunted the Egyptians. Their

At the time of Julius Caesar s assassination Octavian was planning to take a senior military role
in the Parthian expedition of 44BC. He was with the army at Apollonia, in what is now Albania
and was only eighteen at the time, which made his rivals consistently underestimate him and his
abilities. After hearing of Caesars death he started to head back to Rome, learning on the way
that he was now Caesar s new adopted son and heir (as written in Caesars will). In his will Caesar
has named Octavian as his successor and has left him three quarters of his estate, he also acquired
the name Gaius Iulius Caesar Octavious, Caesar s slaves, including secretarial staff and those who

Augustus raised a force of 3000 men from his Father s veterans. But among the supporters of
Caesar, Octavian also had a natural opponent Mark Antony, the dictator s trusted lieutenant. Mark
Antony was not at all like Octavian. He was a lot more attractive and physically stronger. Octavian
had called upon Antony for help and support but was disappointed to find that he was jealous
because Octavian had been named heir rather than himself.
However, in the year 43BC after a period of unstableness in Rome, Octavian and Antony came to the
realisation that they needed to make a political alliance. Thus creating the Second Triumvirate, after

The Separation between Mind and Body
Looking at my work, one may wonder whether they are looking at something tiny or enormous.
Is the object representing something interior or exterior? This dichotomy correlates to idea of
separation, or even conflict, between mind and body. Are the two separate, or are they
symbiotic, and entirely dependent on each other? Just as some people believe that meditation
can clarify or synchronize the mind and body, my work is a process that symbolically expresses
trauma, disease, and death, beyond what is apparent from a physical body, bringing about a
similar synchronization. Recently, I have been exploring Francisco J. Varela s ideas of the
portable laboratory. He said, Human beings in their embedded, situated life, constitute a de facto
topographical place (the body, the self) where procedures and gestures can be carried out to
directly explore the human experience itself (the quest). 1 In my practice, I seek to explore both
the physical and psychological aspects of trauma and healing. As I have continued with my own
exploration, I have expanded my research to include ideas from philosophy and science as well
as art. The contemporary philosopher, Susan J. Brison has been a great influence in my practice.
One quote that has inspired much of my work comes from her book, Aftermath: Violence and the
Remaking of a Self. She said, We are our molecules; our deepest fears, joys, and desires are
embodied in the chemical signals of our neurotransmitters. But we are also creators of

We need to return them better than they were given to us . It was drilled into our heads from
day one of training, until the Friday of the final week. This was not a statement concerning a

interaction with their childhoods fostered such a departure from mine. Preparing for this job
was not easy: a twenty hour training period was to be completed weeks before the beginning of

The Old Regulations Regarding Statutory Reform
Executive Summary:
In conducting this report, it became clear that significant flaws were present with the old
regulations regarding statutory reform. These issues created audited financial statements which
investors were never fully confident with trusting, as well as creating many opportunities for the
independence of auditors to be compromised.
For this report, both group work for a presentation, as well as significant individual research went
into finding the relevant content for a comprehensive report. Concluding this report it is evident
that the new regulations do cover a wide range of ground, however there are many critics of these
new regulations, who feel they will add cost and complexity, whilst possibly harming the quality of

Evaluation Of The Standardized Patient Experience
Reflective Evaluation
The standardized patient experience was useful and interesting for me because I became more
confident and active during nursing practice after that practice exam. This practical exam helped
me recall my professional experience from year 2012 and 2013 when I worked as a nurse in my
country. After that practice exam, I knew how staff nurses deal and communicate with patients
from a different culture and spoke different language. My specialization is nursing education, but I
wanted to take more practical classes during the course or study to obtain first hard experience and
confidence in dealing with patients.
I had the opportunity to elicit a comprehensive health history by using skillful interviewing
techniques. However, I was nervous and panicky because I thought the time will be not adequate
to complete the practical exam. I applied my skills and experience during health history section,
but the problem was I did not deal with any real patient during nursing practical about two years
ago. After I introduced myself to the patients, I started to ask and write patient name, age, and chief
complaint. Then, I started to ask patients about subjective data which included a history of present
illness, past medical history, family history, and personal and social history. I did an appropriate
job with subjective data. I did not ask patients about sexual history during subjective data based on
their situation and age. Also, according to my previous experience

A Guard on Religious Freedom Essay
Persuasive Essay #1
A Guard on Religious Freedom
In the eyes of our founding fathers, few things seemed as important as the separation of church and
state. The first amendment grants all Americans the freedom to subscribe to any religion they wish
and promises that the government will not promote any religion above any other. Although the
separation of church and state and the freedom of religion are firmly and concretely secured in the
Constitution of the United States, events in the recent past bring to question whether this ideal is
under threat of losing its place as an American standard.
A recent controversy that brings to light the threat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to choose a battle wisely to not take away from future battle and maintain importance
on the battles deserving of a fight.
One such battle that is deserving of attention is the battle of prayer in school or the moment of
silence as a clever euphemism. To publicly bring attention to students with different beliefs is
clearly a violation of the ideals of our fore fathers. Not only does the moment of silence bring
sensitive differences to light but clearly presses on the issues of religion and possibly alienates
religious minorities.
Another such recent test to the separation of church and state was President Bush s public definition
of marriage and attack on homosexual relationships. Under the code of unethical, Mr. Bush
attempted to ban the union of two same sex members from joining as married. Although no Biblical
scripture has been presented as support for the proposed constitutional amendment, the
disagreement with same sex marriage can primarily be found in the religious fields or in area s
traditionally known as religiously dominant areas. Marriage is both an emotional as well as
contractual union of individuals. To prevent the union should require the backing of evidence that
appeals to more than the fickle nature of the public.
When arguing for the importance of the maintenance of the separation of church and state, it is
important to focus on

Presidential Election Of 1988 Pitted Vice President
The election of 1988 pitted Vice President George H.W Bush against Massachusetts Governor
Michael Dukakis. Coming off the back of President Reagan s second term, Vice President Bush
needed to build on the sense of optimism that Reagan had instilled and make a case for
continuity. Governor Dukakis on the other hand had to try and paint himself as good alternative
to some of the pitfalls of President Reagan s later years. Coming off an economic collapse,
insider trading scandals, and a growing drug problem, there was no shortage of material for ad
agencies to work with. The ads from 1988 paint a picture of an overall negative race, even when
compared to 2016 s charged election, while also producing some of the most infamous and
effective ads in campaign history. Judging from the ads alone, 1988 would be seen as a negative
campaign. While both candidates had positive ads, the most remembered from this election year
are three negative ads put out on the Republican side. The fact that the three most memorable all
came from one side speak to a difference in production quality as well. Based solely off the ads,
the Republican party seemed to have the most unity of message as well as a coherent plan. Two
of the three big ads have to do with Governor Dukakis s record on crime. The first, run only once
by and developed by a PAC, talked about Willie Horton, a convicted murderer who was furloughed
under the Massachusetts system. While furloughed, he escaped and then assaulted a man

  • 2. Essay on Life, Death, What Dreams May Come Unconditional love can be described as a pure affection bereft of circumstance. It is a true positive regard of others that bares no judgment. In a sense, unconditional love has no boundaries. In the film What Dreams May Come, the boundary between life and death fades and a family s bond is tested. Tragedy by tragedy, unconditional loveand guiltplay major roles in the defiance of the laws of death. Chris Nielsen, the main character of the film, travels to the depths of the afterlife to find his beloved wife Annie and restore his family. The Nielson s genuine compassion for their young makes it exceptionally difficult to lose Marie and Ian later on. When both children are killed in a car accident on the way to school, the chain of misfortune begins to claim the family. Annie, who had the nanny bring the kids to school that morning due to a work commitment, blamed herself for the loss of her children. When the lives of children are taken too soon, it is as if they are cheated of having a chance at life, and the parents are punished for no reason. Upon realizing this, Annie is institutionalized for depression and suicidal tendencies. The film clearly shows Annie s devastation by her appearance. Her long, brown hair is now chopped short and she smokes cigarettes. This physical deterioration coincides with the emotional trauma that occurs when a child dies. The loss of her children infected her heart with an unwarranted guilt that made her question her faith in herself, her religion, and her marriage. When Chris mentions getting a divorce because she is so lifeless, she realizes that losing the only love left in her life would kill her. Their unconditional love is strengthened by the loss and Annie learns to forgive herself over time. Forgiveness is often the first step, whether in saving a marriage or a long term emotional healing process. The next life that is lost occurs on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Mormon Service I Visited The Mormon service I visited, had a few similarities but also a few distinct differences from the Catholic service that I am used to. Before this particular Sunday, I had never attended a Mormon service, nor had I spoken to anyone who believed in Mormonism or the Latter Day Saints. With that being said, I was welcomed much more openly than I had originally thought. Before entering, I was approached by two members of the church; two young women (sisters) between the ages of roughly 19 to 22. I arrived about an hour before service, that way I could ask a few people some questions, but the two girls beat me to the punch. They initially asked me if I had visited before and I responded saying that it was my first time, and I was attending as a student observer, with no intention of converting, but would love to learn about the faith. They nodded and proceeded to explain to me the reasons as to why they believed so strongly, and also a bit of background information on the faith. One of the girls, explained to me that there has been a lot of skepticism about Mormonismdue in part to the fact that Joseph Smith Jr, was so young and how his explanation of Moroni (An angel no one had ever heard of), and his entire religion and the scripture used, Book of Mormon, could have just been a part of his imagination. From instances of technology, to plot, to character, even to cultural influence, I wholeheartedly believe that Star Trek is light years better than Star Wars. In addition to plot, Star Trek has also had numerous characters with many layers of depth. In Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is the protagonist boyish hero with a tragic motivation. Face detection is one of the tedious job to achieve with very high accuracy. In this paper we proposed a method that combines two techniques that is Orthogonal Laplacianface (OLPP) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The formula for the OLPP relies on the Locality Preserving Projection (LPP) formula, which aims at п¬Ѓnding a linear approximation to the Eigen functions of the astronomer Beltrami operator on the face manifold. However, LPP is non orthogonal and this makes it difficult to reconstruct the information. When the set of features is found by the OLPP, with the help of the PSO, the grouping of the image features is done and the one with the best match from the database is given as the result. This hybrid technique gives a higher accuracy in less processing time. Keywords: OLPP, PSO, INTRODUCTION: Recently, appearance based face recognition has received tons of attention. With the exploding population of senior citizens occurring at this time, we are seeing a commensurate explosion in health problems with are causing a taxing burden on the health care system. Health conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, kidney failure and others are expensive to treat, and oftentimes they are fatal. However, diet is a major contributor to many of these problems. The Veggies (and Fruits!) for Seniors Health Promotion Project is designed to bring to the attention of seniors the need to consume a diet high in fruits and vegetables as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. This summary will quantify the problem, provide an outline of the Veggies (and Fruits!) for Seniors program, along with cooperating partners, and propose objectives that should be accomplished once this project is executed. The senior population continues to grow much faster than it has in any generation in the history of the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census (2008), the anticipated growth of the population 60 and over in the U.S. is expected to grow from just under 55 million in the 2010 census to 72 million in the 2020 census. This represents a 13% increase in the aging population in just a 10 year period. One can see by the quality of our gym that our sports are a main part of our school, but as one wonders on into the hallways of our school, they can see how dull they are. By the plainness of the walls, there seems to be no life, in the JROTC hallway you see the trophy cabinet full of multiple national trophies and as you venture on you get to see images of what these teams do, along with the bulletin board that shows newspaper articles of the success of the program. But as you continue to walk toward the other side of the classroom, one can only see some bulletin boards that do not have many things on them except for some advertising. Just by observing this, a new student can see that our school has a great deal to do with sports, but what they cannot see is how well this school performs academically. As we walk down the halls you rarely see a student s work displayed. So one can assume what James Coleman thinks to be correct, that altogether, the trophy case would suggest to the innocent visitor that he was entering an athletic club, not an educational institution. Effects Of Social Class On Unethical Behavior Effect of Social Class on Unethical Behavior Both social class and ethical behavior are important notions in our society today and have been for many years. Unethical behavior can be defined as behavior or actions that hurts others and are illegal or ethically questionable (Piff et al., 2012). CNN recently reported Volkswagen is being charged with deception regarding emissions of supposedly clean vehicles. They reported that for over ten years more than eleven million vehicles have been deliberately programmed to fabricate emissions of damaging pollutants under certified testing conditions (Tellado, 2015). Why are consumers so concerned and outraged at this fraud? This upsets consumers and others because they care about and find ethics and morality to be important. Morals and values are important in our society because they help direct people s lives and motivate people to take part in meaningful relationships. The research completed for his article examines not just ethical behavior but also the role social class playing in determining ethical behavior. The relationship between these to notions will examined by observing behavior at a crosswalk. Social class is defined as a circumstance established by both the material substance of social life and the individual s understanding of his or her social rank, and is a fundamental feature of how he or she interacts in the social world (Kraus et al., 2012). Though Twain satirizes adult conventions throughout? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,?he leaves untouched certain larger issues that? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?explores critically: the problem of slavery, was mentioned indirectly in the Tom but was directly depicted in Huckleberry by using a character: Jim. • 22. Potatoes At Room Temperature Introduction (background information, purpose and hypothesis) We know that enzymes are protein that helps to breakdown different molecules. But what if enzymes can be breakdown? Most enzymes need homeostasis environment to survive. Well we all know that as the amount of temperature increases the less the enzymes .Enzymes can be denatured using temperature, PH and salt concentration. As we know that protein structure are determined by DNA coding. We used temperature to see if increasing or decreasing temperature affected the amount of enzyme produced. So when the temperature is increased there will be more amount of enzymes denature due to high temperature and it would be opposite of temperature was dropped. And a denatured protein is biologically inactive hence it needs a homeostasis environment. Hydrogen peroxide is used for metabolic processes. The main purpose of this lab was to see that if increase in temperature resulted in denaturing of enzymes and comparing the time for h2o2 to bubble when using apples, onions and potatoes at room temperature. So the main questions for this lab were how does temperature affect the amount of enzyme present in potatoes? Will there be any change in amount of bubbles produced if apples and onions were used with potatoes at room temperature? Material required ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... David Zinckenko argues in his article don t blame the eater , that it is a matter of personal responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost for a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the comparison with the automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most high end vehicles and also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end vehicles have a certain type of brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance companies. The youth are charged higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to accidents as suggested with smokers and obese individuals with diseases. The government and other respective officials imposing this would mean that obesity is termed a disease which would force individuals to try to become thinner. This could lead to dangerous diseases such as anorexia. The difference is mainly because health insurance has a closer link to our economy and human life as compared to automobile insurance. Individuals should be given rights to decide what they would like as with the automobile insurance wherein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An interesting era for films of this genre is the late 1930 s to early 1940 s which we see reflections in the literature today. War World 2 was a turning point in history and was a time of sheer horror in many places such as Spain, Germany, Poland and Eastern Europe. In today s age, contemporary literature writers often draw their inspiration and ideas from the writers that have gone before them. As a result, many works of 21st literature face the events and movements from the past in order for them to make sense of the present. The two connections that are very apart in all four of my texts is power and control and the theme of hope. • 35. Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the NileRiver. Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on this natural rhythm. When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally. Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that life and even death allowed them to experience. This dichotomy correlates to idea of separation, or even conflict, between mind and body. Are the two separate, or are they symbiotic, and entirely dependent on each other? Just as some people believe that meditation can clarify or synchronize the mind and body, my work is a process that symbolically expresses trauma, disease, and death, beyond what is apparent from a physical body, bringing about a similar synchronization. • 43. Evaluation Of The Standardized Patient Experience Reflective Evaluation The standardized patient experience was useful and interesting for me because I became more confident and active during nursing practice after that practice exam. This practical exam helped me recall my professional experience from year 2012 and 2013 when I worked as a nurse in my country. After that practice exam, I knew how staff nurses deal and communicate with patients from a different culture and spoke different language. My specialization is nursing education, but I wanted to take more practical classes during the course or study to obtain first hard experience and confidence in dealing with patients. I had the opportunity to elicit a comprehensive health history by using skillful interviewing techniques. However, I was nervous and panicky because I thought the time will be not adequate to complete the practical exam. I applied my skills and experience during health history section, but the problem was I did not deal with any real patient during nursing practical about two years ago. After I introduced myself to the patients, I started to ask and write patient name, age, and chief complaint. Then, I started to ask patients about subjective data which included a history of present illness, past medical history, family history, and personal and social history. I did an appropriate job with subjective data. I did not ask patients about sexual history during subjective data based on their situation and age. Also, according to my previous experience ... • 44. A Guard on Religious Freedom Essay Persuasive Essay #1 A Guard on Religious Freedom In the eyes of our founding fathers, few things seemed as important as the separation of church and state. The first amendment grants all Americans the freedom to subscribe to any religion they wish and promises that the government will not promote any religion above any other. Although the separation of church and state and the freedom of religion are firmly and concretely secured in the Constitution of the United States, events in the recent past bring to question whether this ideal is under threat of losing its place as an American standard. A recent controversy that brings to light the threat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to choose a battle wisely to not take away from future battle and maintain importance on the battles deserving of a fight. One such battle that is deserving of attention is the battle of prayer in school or the moment of silence as a clever euphemism. To publicly bring attention to students with different beliefs is clearly a violation of the ideals of our fore fathers. Not only does the moment of silence bring sensitive differences to light but clearly presses on the issues of religion and possibly alienates religious minorities. Another such recent test to the separation of church and state was President Bush s public definition of marriage and attack on homosexual relationships. Under the code of unethical, Mr. Bush attempted to ban the union of two same sex members from joining as married. Although no Biblical scripture has been presented as support for the proposed constitutional amendment, the disagreement with same sex marriage can primarily be found in the religious fields or in area s traditionally known as religiously dominant areas. Marriage is both an emotional as well as contractual union of individuals. To prevent the union should require the backing of evidence that appeals to more than the fickle nature of the public. When arguing for the importance of the maintenance of the separation of church and state, it is important to focus on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Presidential Election Of 1988 Pitted Vice President The election of 1988 pitted Vice President George H.W Bush against Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. Coming off the back of President Reagan s second term, Vice President Bush needed to build on the sense of optimism that Reagan had instilled and make a case for continuity. Governor Dukakis on the other hand had to try and paint himself as good alternative to some of the pitfalls of President Reagan s later years. Coming off an economic collapse, insider trading scandals, and a growing drug problem, there was no shortage of material for ad agencies to work with. The ads from 1988 paint a picture of an overall negative race, even when compared to 2016 s charged election, while also producing some of the most infamous and effective ads in campaign history. Judging from the ads alone, 1988 would be seen as a negative campaign. While both candidates had positive ads, the most remembered from this election year are three negative ads put out on the Republican side. The fact that the three most memorable all came from one side speak to a difference in production quality as well. Based solely off the ads, the Republican party seemed to have the most unity of message as well as a coherent plan. Two of the three big ads have to do with Governor Dukakis s record on crime. The first, run only once by and developed by a PAC, talked about Willie Horton, a convicted murderer who was furloughed under the Massachusetts system. While furloughed, he escaped and then assaulted a man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
