Explain How You Can Support And Maintain An Environment To...
MAINTAIN AN ENVIRONMENT TO EMPOWER PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Assessment 21382/01
Task 1
Answer the following questions and exercises:
1. Detail five (5) ways that you can support and encourage the independence and self
determination of a person with a disability. * Assist people to maintain their dignity by
maintaining existing valued social roles and by finding ways for them to gain more valued roles. *
Respect the individual s right to self esteem and self determination. It s not just the right of able
bodied people, say something positive; catch them doing something positive. * Assist people in
developing new skills and competencies by providing emotional and practical support. * Ensure

5. How could you support a person to make more choices/decisions within their current
environment? * By giving them more information and the experience of the range of choices and
options that are available to them. Do not pressure the person being supported about what is their
decision and give them time to think and decide.
6. Explain how the Federal Disability Services Act (1986) looks at the rights of people with a
disability and assists them to achieve positive outcomes. * Federal Disability Services Act (1986)
explains the right of the people with disabilities to be treated as equal, respect for their human worth
no matter what culture, race, sex, whatever the origin, type and degree of disability have the same
fundamental rights as other members of Australian society. People with disabilities have the same
right as other members of Australian society to services which will support their attaining an
acceptable quality of life. * In assisting them to achieve positive outcome the services focus on the
achievement of the positive outcomes for people with disabilities, such as increased independence,
employment opportunities and integration into the community.

Example Of Decision Analytic Models
Decision analytic models are used to examine cost effectiveness of healthcare interventions. These
models summarise available evidence succinctly for analysis. When there is a lack of observed
evidence, expert opinions on the mean or median values (occasionally the minimum and maximum
range) for the parameter of interest are commonly used. This does not provide sufficient information
to examine whether the distribution of uncertainty surrounding the parameter of interest is
representative of the experts opinion. As this is a key component in Probabilistic Sensitivity Analysis
(PSA) commonly used in decision analytic models, as recommended by NICE(1), there is need to
ensure the appropriate distribution of parameter uncertainty to... Show more content on

This systematic review by Grigore et al(2) highlighted the need for guidelines to critically appraise
elicitation exercises and suggested for more research to define these measurement criteria. The
authors proposed that until a definitive checklist is developed, the validity and reliability of the
elicitation exercise should always be reported explicitly.
Following this 2013 systematic review, the same authors published an article in 2016, on a study
that compared the results for two commonly used elicitation methods, the histogram and hybrid
methods(3). This study had the following 3 objectives
1)Examine how these two methods appealed to the experts,
2)Determine if there were any differences in the elicited distributions and;
3)Compare the impact of the elicited distributions on an actual decision model
The study results showed that
1)Generally, the experts found the histogram method easier to use compared to the hybrid method
although the two elicitation methods were closely ranked by the experts in terms of ease of use
and face validity
2)The distributions from the histogram method were slightly narrower than the distributions from
the hybrid method, suggesting greater certainty when aggregated.

The Giver Movie Vs Book
The Giver novel published in 1993 written by Lois Lowry. And until after 21 years, released on
big screen directed by Philip Noyce. The Giver is a must read, about a teenage boy, 16 years of
age, Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) living in a far futuristic dystopian society where everything seems to
be a PERFECT life with Sameness. But when Jonasis selected instead of assigned a job, he is to
receive memory from the Giver(Jeff Bridges) as his assigned role. Jonas realises the bright and
dark factualities of his community. And with the dark truths, Jonas decides to try to escape from
the society to elsewhere, releasing all memories to everyone.
From the novel to the film, Noyce, and screenwriters Michael Mitnick and Robert Weide stay close
to the plot and characters with some significant changes. The movie begins introducing the
community and their technological dwellings where Jonas, his assigned parents (Alexander
Skarsgard and Katie Holmes) and younger sister (Emma Tremblay) live as black and white to
show what the people living in the community see as it is not very interesting. But in the book, it
begins with the recent release with no identification of the colors that are seen. ... Show more

finally releasing memories to his community. In comparison to the book, it only has a short chapter

The author provided the reader with data driven evidence that was collected to measure the outcome
(Emery and Barker, 2007). The results of the third article reported that parenting behaviors influence
African American Single mother family s children outcomes in education and society, while
focusing on the negative and positive aspects that can be expected in the single parent
circumstances (Shook, Jones, Forehand, Dorsey, and Brody, 2011).
In conclusion, the three empirical articles compared provided much research, data, and informative
topics that furthers discussion of the research that is available. Each article obtained limitations.
Article one limitations was based on the average age of the respondents being 50 years and mostly
Caucasian. Many of the jurisdictions had only three respondents and may not be good
representation of the opinions of the direct reports given. Transformational leadership might not be
the result of less hierarchal organizations. (Grand Canyon University Doctoral Studies Comparison

Persuasive Fishing Outline
Introduction
With fishing industries advancing dramatically, fishing gear now consists of equipment such as
large nets and hooks to capture aquatic species at a much faster rate. But with such a large amount
of fish being captured daily and many more being thrown away, we are reducing food supply.
Thesis Statement: Advance in technology and fishing methods have made it easier to catch large
amounts of fish in a short amount of time; resulting in endangering fish species, reduce
reproduction rate, harm fish habitats, and reduce food supply for the future. II. Background
Paragraph
For centuries we have relied on fishing as a means for food. Over the years we have developed
new methods of fishing and have enhanced our equipment to capture vast amounts of fish in a
minimum amount of time. We now have industrial fishing companies that provide for our seafood
demand. As we continue to capture large amounts of fish we begin to shorten supply for the future,
reduce reproduction rates, disrupt food chains, harm habitats, and drive species to extinction.
III. Paragraph I
Overfishing has been a major threat to ocean inhabitants. Fishing industries use harsh methods to
fish that unintentionally harm habitats or catch and kill fish that are untargeted. ... Show more

are dead (Slowfood). Up to 90% of the total catch are often discarded (Slowfood). Large areas of

permanent scars that can reach up to four kilometer long (Slowfood). Bottom trawling sometimes

Pierre Trudeau Research Paper
Pierre Trudeau, lawyer, politician, and the 15th Prime Minister of Canada, was a big part of
keeping national unity during the Quebec sovereignty movement and referendum in 1980. He was
also a big part in keeping the Canadian public calm, taking action and standing up to the FLQ
during the October Crisis in 1970.
Born in Outremont, Montreal on October 18, 1919, Pierre Elliott Trudeau (full name Joseph
Philippe Pierre Yves Elliott Trudeau) was born to a wealthy family, along with one brother and
one sister (another brother died at birth). His father, Charlie Trudeau (full name Joseph Charles
Г‰mile Trudeau) was a wealthy French Canadian entrepreneur and lawyer who earned his wealth
with his gas station business, the Automobile Owners Association. Charlie Trudeau died of a heart

hours to fulfill the requests. Despite the pressure of some of the Canadian public and some sources,
the government refused to fulfill them. Their refusal might have caused the next incident five days

The Empowerment of Japanese Women, through Strong Female...
Within the mediums of popular culture, the representation of women has often been controversial,
due to the use of their gender and the attitudes toward them. In a majority of anime themes, the
women have been drawn for their sensuality and sexuality constraints. Their role was to be
dominated by their male counterparts. It has reinforced the stereotypical role of women which is
the passive and sensitive role. Why is popular culture important? It influences the thoughts of the
people and shapes their attitudes and behaviours. During the late 20th century, Japan experienced
the rise of feminist movements who desired to change the feminine historical narrative. How did
Japanese women become empowered? The paper will demonstrate that the... Show more content on

Japanese women were getting an education, but remained unemployed compared to their male
classmates.10 It was an illusionary freedom and women s rights progress because the system
would not allow them to advance socially. The oppression becomes invisible that an outsider
might believe that the Japanese women have gained their rights. Still, some may say that
Japanese women were more discriminated than their western neighbours.11 They were hired as
Office Flowers (shokuba no hana), meaning they were given small tasks without the title of a
career path.12 Since Japan s employment advancement system is based on the years of service,
the women are isolated into menial jobs that will not gain them any points towards job
experience.13 Hence, the question becomes how can women overcome this silent and effective
oppression. From a political perspective, the only way to change society is to transforms its laws
to adapt to the development of Japanese women. During the forties and fifties, Japan passed many
laws to allow women to participate within society. However, they were unable to stop the
discrimination from occurring. It was a rare occurrence to see a Japanese women leading a
company. This is because discrimination against women is a big source of profit for the Japanese
economy.14 Even though, they increased their employment within the labour force, Japanese

Life In My Life
Life is 10% what happens to is and 90% how we react to it said Dennis p. Kimbro. The lives of
most people are not always perfect and probably never will be; and that s ok because having a
life with its ups and downs is absolutely normal and ok. My life has had all of its up and downs
and still does. I m pretty sure most people or maybe just a few can relate to the kind of things
that have shaped me into the person I am today. Some may be bad or good experiences or people
that have made any person they are today. It might be surprising to some people how much in
common we have just by looking into our similar life changing experiences and encounters.
These kind of events or people can make you into the person you are today and give you the
personality that you think fits you best. Being in touch with God and my faith has really shaped
me into the strong and independent person I am today, also going through depression and having a
child at a young age has made me stronger as well.
Not many people seem to fully understand how real depression is and how serious these feelings
can be. But I do in dealing with depression, medication, and surviving suicide attempts. I can
discuss my experiences truthfully and clearly. I remember the first time I thought of suicide. I
thought of different ways to do it, when and where. The days would be endless when I was
depressed. I felt like a piece of trash that was always getting stepped on or not seen. The mental
institution I stayed at was so cold and dull. Every day I would wake up and hear the screams and
cries of other children, some younger than me; They would beg to go home and cry saying i
want to go home...let me see my mommy! I was constantly reminded of this situation every time
I looked down at my wrist and arms. Cuts and bruises everywhere. Some from the doctors who
constantly took out my blood or put stuff inside me, and some caused by myself. I did not see
this as getting help at first, i felt like i was in prison. I felt like i was in trouble for what i had
done. During my time of depression, i constantly felt alone. I was scared all the time and feared
the thoughts of being alone forever. This time in my life has really shaped me into the kind or

A Single Person, Group, Event Or Community
Case studies are in depth investigations of a single person, group, event or community.
Typically, data are gathered from a variety of sources and by using several different methods
(e.g. observation interviews). The research may also continue for an extended period of time, so
processes and developments can be studied as they happen. The case study started with the
clinical studies where the medical history was recorded over a period of time and similar cases
were handled with same procedure and identical symptoms were considered to group the diseases
in one genera. In case study the hierarchy of events is recorded which have happened in the past
leading to the current events and forecasting their effects in the future. The data for the case study
can be collected from various sources which are easily accessible on the internet such as annual
reports of the company, articles and blogs of the employees and the website content. For the
detailed insight data, interview can be used as an effective tool .the facts can be gathered from the
individual, friends, family, employer and other people surrounding the individual on which the case
is studied.

Symbolic And Interpretive Anthropology Of The 1960 s And...
The 1960 s and 1970 s in both Britain and the United States found a resurgence of interest in cultural
meaning, in the field of symbolic and interpretive anthropology. Symbolic and Interpretive
anthropology studies the way people understand their surroundings, actions and utterance of other
members of their society through the examinations of symbols. These symbols can be displayed
through processes of myth and ritualand reveal how humans/social groups assign meanings to these
symbols in order to address fundamental questions about human social life. Symbolic and
interpretative anthropologycan be divided into two major approaches, wherein, one is associated
with Victor Turner and the other with Clifford Geertz.
Victor Turner was a British anthropologist who studied rituals and social change particularly
among the Ndembu of Zambia. Through his work Turner was able to reveal how the process of
social change unfolded from the point of view of the individual experiences and the development
of common beliefs that are maintained by the social group. From the excerpt, Symbols in Ndembu
Ritual , Turner depicts his search for the meaning of ritual and symbolism in puberty/circumcision
rights of passage among young girls and boys in relation to the adults in their tribes. Reminiscent of
Max Gluckman, Turner viewed all rituals as containing religious or spiritual components in the
referents of the symbolism involved and described symbols as the smallest unit of ritual which

Nike s Recent `` Equality Campaign `` Commercial Of A...
This essay seeks to analyze Nike s recent equality campaign commercial that was released in
February 2017. Nike, the American sports brand giant who makes up 31% of the athletic footwear
market (Keady, 2011), has been noted for creating political statements alongside the consumer
goods that they produce. As seen in the short black and white filmed advertisement, famous
American athletes Lebron James, Megan Rapinoe, Kevin Durant, and Serena Williams are depicted
standing up against social inequalities experienced by racial minorities and other marginalized
groups; other marginalized groups include those such as the LGBT community as represented by
soccer star Megan Rapinoe. The basic idea behind the piece is to illustrate that if equality... Show

As seen with the Nike equality campaign commercial, Nike is calling for those who buy their
products to almost break through the current social boundaries and to move past these lines. The
quote of moving past these lines aids in furthering the post Fordist concept of uniqueness as it
almost encourages one to think outside the box and to be different by going against societal
limitations and norms while in hopes of striving for equality; it gives a sense of inspiration to those
who witness the commercial. Nike is commanding for not only their consumer base, but all those
who view this ad to be active in fighting for equality for all races and other minority groups. Nike
believes this idea starts with you, and not by those who are atop the social hierarchy like those in
governmental positions; taking a bottom to top approach. This idea exemplified by Nike gives
the consumer a stronger feeling of empowerment within the world in which they live. The idea of
individual self control and power is further highlighted through the quote by the narrator, Michael
B. Jordan, who states here you re defined by your actions. In this instance, each individual in
society is considered for being responsible for change. Nike s willingness of taking into account
the various people who make up society is shown

The Challenges Of Co-Locating Of Intercompute And Storage...
SUMMARY This paper broadly talks about co locating of compute and storage nodes in HPC
architecture to overcome the I/O challenges in scientific applications. In a conventional HPC
architecture compute nodes and storage nodes are located far apart and are interconnected via
shared network. The bottleneck of the system is the gap between compute node and I/O which
continues to widen up with increasing storage. The idea of co locating distributed storage nodes
with compute nodes seems to be an eye catcher, as it allows the applications to perform their
computation or manipulate their intermediate results and checkpoints, the data only needed to be
transferred over the network for archival purpose only. This paper also discusses the... Show more

Two of the building blocks of the FusionSim are ROSS and CODES. ROSS is a discrete event

Causes of the Financial Crisis of 2008-2009
Causes of The Financial Crisis of 2007 2009
According to our financial textbook Financial crises are major disruptions in financial markets
characterized by sharp declines in asset prices and firm failures (Mishkin and Eakins 2012). In
August 2007, defaults in mortgage market for subprime borrowers sent a shudder through the
financial markets, leading to the worst U.S financial crisis since the Great Depression. Alan
Greenspan, chairman of the Fed, described the financial crisis as a once in a century credit tsunami
. (Mishkin and Eakins 2012). Furthermore, Wall Street firms and commercial banks suffered losses
mounting to billions of dollars. Households and businesses found they had to pay higher interest
rates on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, many participants contributed to the creation of bad mortgages and the selling of bad
securities, feeling secure they would not be held accountable for their actions. The unregulated
mortgage originators had no personal responsibility if those contracts failed. And so it was for
brokers, realtors, individuals in rating agencies, and other market participants, each maximizing his
or her own gain and passing problems on down the line until the system itself collapsed.(Jinkling
2010). In the end, these unregulated originators were concerned on their commission fee, for
personal gains, not if any of the loans were going to default.
The Originate to Distribute model plays an essential role, on the unregulated mortgage originators
perspective and agenda. Many mortgage brokers and lenders operated under the originate to
distribute model whereby they originated loans solely for the purpose of selling them. This model
allowed them to earn loan origination fees without incurring any type of credit risk. Many times
this model, allowed the unregulated originators to take additional fees for collecting loan payments,
escrowing and making payments for property taxes and insurance premiums. Additionally,
unregulated mortgage originators can charge a fee just by receiving customer inquiries. (Bank Law
Committee 2009). According to Mishkin and Eakins, the originate to distribute business modal was
exposed to principal agent problems, in

The Methods That Are Used By The Standard Transactions
D The two methods that are used by the expert include the comparable transactions method, which
uses the multiples in the market to determine the value, and also the DCF method, which is used to
discount the future cash flows back to determine the current value of the shares. Different methods
have different strengths and weaknesses. According to Ross (2009), the comparable transaction
method is used and the strength is that it uses the historical actual transactions that are comparable
to the Woolworths transaction, so that the valuation is justified by the market conditions. In the
meantime, the weakness of the comparable transaction is that different transactions have different
companies involved and the transactions are conducted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, in the comparable transaction method, the expert uses the acquisition of Saks and
acquisition of Neiman Marcus as comparable transactions. The methods are correct, as both of
these are retailers. However, it is also important to realize the weakness, which is that these two
companies do not have exactly the same products as David James. Another weakness is that the
number of comparable transactions is too small and the multiples that are used for valuation
vary considerably, so that large discrepancies are generated. The DCF method is a useful
method. In this case the assumptions that are made in the DCF method are reasonable. The
DCF also includes many different scenarios that are used for valuation. However, one of the
major weaknesses of this is that the variation of valuation is very large. Therefore, it is
reasonable to believe that although both methods are good for valuation purposes, the
weaknesses generated could impact the accuracy of the results. The growth rate that is assumed
in the DCF valuation is 2.5%, which is reasonable. According to Ross (2009), the growth rate of
2.5% matches the long term growth rate of the Australian economy and therefore it is justified. As
the company keeps growing it would finally reaches its final status. In many situations the
company is able to grow as fast as the Australian economy is able to. Very few industries are able
to grow at a faster rate than the whole economy for very long periods of time. An important

Mentally Retarded Criminals Should Face the Death Penalty...
On June 26, 1989, the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Penry v. Lynaugh, upheld the
imposition of the death penaklty on a mentally retarded offender, John Penry (Chan 1211). The
Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment
clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly
concur with the United States Supreme Court s decision. I do not believe that mentally retarded
defendants should be categorically exempt from the death penaltybecause of their retardation. I hold
this position because IQ test results are sometimes unreliable, there are different degrees of

High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court
cases (Sattler 26).
Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the
obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus,
the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved
with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a
mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score
could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the
death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ
s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ
scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors
can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be
highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him
from the death penalty.
Although the reliability of IQ test results is questionable, many states including Georgia, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Maryland, and New Mexico have enacted legislation categorically prohibiting the
execution of defendants who have an IQ of 70 or below

I Really Enjoyed Holly Weeks Piece On Stressful Conversations
Intro
I really enjoyed Holly Weeks piece on stressful conversations. It aligns well with my own
experience. Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress
gets high very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation
fail, this is a thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the
reader to remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also
provoking us to examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with
stressful conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by
describing the processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally.
Know Thyself
Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point
in this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to
evolve without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author
provided, in retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it
differently. Holly Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of
emotional situation we probably make the same type of mistakes every time. The author has a good
word for it, tactics, though unlike the tactics deployed consciously when running a war or wining a
race, these tactics are ones the subconscious uses to

prayed at least once every day for a good bit of my teenage life. So as you could probably already
tell.. Having to go through such a transformation was hard and quite the obstacle to overcome in
my life. In the end though, it was all worth it. Your book, Undeniable: Evolution The Scienceof
Creation, was the icing on the cake to my transformation. The book is absolutely amazing at
least. So I pay much homage to you and your idea to get back on the map about science by
reaching out to today s society and my generation, the one that grew up watching your videos in
grade school. It s working. We need to know and understand how science works as a country, hell
maybe even as a world eventually. That would be a truly beautiful site, barring it wasn t out of
our lifetimes. But back to my point, progress in this country isn t going to happen without the
basic fundamental knowledge about life, evolution. You ve made it obviously clear to me, through
your videos and book, that it is very real. It is happening all around us on this earth, and has for

Comparing The Diving Bell And The Butterfly
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a movie presenting the life of Jean Dominique Bauby, a
gentleman who suffered a severe stroke, which caused him to endure a peculiar disorder called
locked in syndrome. The symptoms of this render him paralyzed from head to toe, without the
ability to speak. In the opening of the movie, Bauby is unaware that he cannot speak because he
shows confusion when no one is responding to what he is saying. The only consistent, physical
movement that he has is the ability to move his one functioning eye, and blink his eyelid open and
shut. In order for Bauby to communicate, the speech therapist has instructed him to blink once to
indicate yes and twice to indicate no . Locked in syndrome is a neurological disorder that leaves the
patient aware or their surroundings, memories, and language, but due to the loss of voluntary
movements, speech is lost (Adaes, 2015). Bauby displays all of these symptoms, explaining that he
only thing that keeps him sane is his ability to escape through his imagination and memories... Show

In order for Jean Bauby to communicate, she would recite him the most commonly used letters in
order repeatedly, having him blink once she reached the letter he desired to communicate. This
allowed him to spell out words and eventually sentences in order to have a form of communication
with the people he interacted with. At the beginning of his treatment, this was very frustrating for
him and he lost hope until he finally decided to stop pitying himself. Other forms of treatment
were with his physiotherapist, Marie, who was teaching him how to swallow. For example, when
she was trying to have him move his tongue from the front of his mouth to his palate, this will
improve his ability to gain use of his tongue again and eventually lead to him being able to swallow

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Glass Ceiling

Rhetorical Analysis: The Glass Ceiling Hurts Business Too
In Sarah Bianchi Sand s article, she details the glass ceiling, or an unofficial boundary that prevents
women and minorities alike from reaching their highest potential. Her work is meant to persuade
readers that the glass ceiling isn t a myth, but a real and serious problem. Being the Chair and
Executive Director of the National Committee on Pay Equity, Sarah has plenty of reason for
wanting to persuade this topic. Her thesis effectively starts this process by laying out what is
happening. This theory is circulating widely among the press perhaps because it is controversial
and contradicts what has become rather boring to the media but what remains are the real life
experiences of women and people of color no real change in the wage gap and no improvement in
the glass ceiling (Bianchi Sand p.306). This thesis opens the door for Sarah to talk about and
persuade her readers that the glass ceiling is no myth. By using ethos, pathos, and logos our Author
persuades her readers that the glass ceiling is hurting business but can be raised.
Sarah Bianchi Sand began her career path as an advocate of equal pay for equal work in 1969
when she took a job as a stewardess for United Airlines. Appalled by the inequalities she saw there,
she ran for and won a seat as president of the flight attendants union. Now Chair and Executive

Contradiction In Antigone
The death of a loved one is often tragic for most families, but may drive individuals to do heroic
acts. In the play Antigone, she seeks to be successful in the burial of her beloved brother. Her
actions speak louder than words in her ambitious, yet stubborn behavior, to bury her brother with
dignity and respect. Antigoneexhibits her aggression that causes readers to question society and
laws. Antigone is fighting Creon, King of Thebes, for the dignity and honor of her brother rather
than herself. She remains committed to her family and disapproves of the political shaming for
this. The poem, If We Must Die, contains language that describes the characteristics of Antigone.

would probably be best suited for the region. Justify your answer. There are four models of

Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare
SONNET 18 BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
William Shakespeare wrote Sonnet 18 as part of a sequence of 154 sonnets. Also known as Shall
I Compare Thee? Sonnet 18 has become one of his most well loved poems. Shakespeare includes
symbols of time, decay and eternity within this work. The speaker explicates his unending love for
his beloved and how it will live on after death. The first quatrain introduces the personification of
summer.
The speaker begins the sonnet by asking if he can compare his friend to a warm, summer day. A
brief statement stating how lovely and temperate thee is follows this rhetorical question. Rough
winds do shake the darling buds of May, Shakespeare s first example of personification, says that
strong winds can hurt the new flower buds and summer s lease hath all too short a date, explains
that the season does not last long. The mention of a lease refers to the fact that summer must end.
The personification of nature is even more evident in the second quatrain. This time the sun is
named the eye of heaven. The speaker also suggests that the sun is sometimes hidden. Additionally,
it is said that everything that has beauty will fade. This may be by chance or by inevitable time.
Shakespeare uses the word untrimm d to refer to these fair things as losing their decorations, or
trimmings.
However, the speaker has changed the overall tone at the beginning of the third quatrain. Moving
away from the beautiful description of summer, the speaker explains

It doesn t get much more exciting and sultry than the Samba Carnival outside of taking all that

be over in 6 months. However, the war ended up lasting about 8 years from 1775 to 1783. During
the war from 1776 to 1777, Britain laid out a strategy that would enable them to bring this war to
a close. Their strategies to end the war, ultimately failed and costed them big time. Their actions
in decisive battles was part of the reason why they faltered and failed during this time. Overall, the
sympathy of the Howe Brothers, the failure to seize opportunities, and logistical problems, was
what cause British failure. In 1776, the Howe brothers and a large British armada arrived in New

Secretive Beach Birds
Article Summery This article focuses on a group of secretive wetland birds known as secretive
marsh birds. These birds are extremely difficult to observe due to their quiet nature, natural
camouflage and shy behavior. However, although these birds are looked over most of the time they
still play a role in the wetlandecosystem especially within Missouri. These birds are migratory in
nature and tend to move through Missouri through during the fall and spring, visiting various
Missouri wetlands as they pass through. It has been found that the presence of these illusive birds
can serve as an indicator of the health of a wetland s ecosystem with these birds preferring to stop

The secretive marsh birds that the article refers to are almost impossible to find without high tech
portable tools and even then that only works during the mating season of these birds were they are
the most vocal. However, even those these birds are typically neither heard nor seen by humans
they interact with their environment acting as the consumers of the dense vegetation that is
plentiful in the wetland environment. They also act as the prey for their predators becoming a
food source for these animals that without these birds would have a more limited source of food
during the fall and spring seasons. Due to the fact that these birds do have an impact on the
wetlands of Missouri it is important that we promote conservation efforts within these ecosystems
in order to ensure that all of the species that live in and utilize the wetland have the resources they
need to survive in the future. These conservation efforts can help promote the health of the
ecosystem as a whole and ensure that the environment continues to possess the dense vegetation it
needs in order to support the secretive wetland birds. This may help prevent these birds from being
unable to find a satisfactory habitat in Missouri to support their current migratory patterns allowing
them to remain a part of Missouri s Wetland

societies interconnectivity a rapidly advancing import and export links. The transportation of
used tires globally, provides a high probability of importing mosquito vectors into areas outside
their geographic range, such as the Aedes Aegypti (Medlock et al. 2012). The A. Aegypti
species, natural habitat lies throughout tropical regions of America, Asia and Africa as well as
northern Australia and some of the islands situated within the Indian ocean (Soumahoro et al.

commonly found living in domestic habitats, in non biodegradable containers, tires and other
household plastics that hold water. It is in those areas the A. Aegypti mates, lays its eggs and

The way that he loved her was that he wanted to be her everything rather than giving her a son. It
is very possible that Hannah was his trophy wife and he did not want to assume the
responsibility of having children with her. The fact that he already had other children with
Peninah lets us know that he already has that responsibility tolling on him and his money. Birth
control was not uncommon in their day and age too. Elkanah loved Hannah but not enough to
give her what she wanted out of this marriage, a child. The radical monotheist can read this text
and note that it was God that had closed her womb, but with studying more of Elkanah and the
cultural practices of their day it is men who keep women from having kids, not God. Hannah is
stuck in this childless marriage and she is unhappy. She craves to be a mother, something that is
so naturally innate in women and she is sad. Elkanah asks her the question, Am I not more than
10 sons to you ? And she does not even respond to him. Her voice in this moment will not change
the fact that she has no children. She is powerless and childless which makes her feel less of a
woman than Peninah. Hannah goes to the temple at Shiloh to weep. Her burden is too much for
her to bear so she seeks some comfort there. The text says, She presented herself before the Lord

In his article Wealth , Andrew Carnegie argues for the wealth to give back their wealth to the

provide his interpretation of the changing America. Carnegie s Gospel of Wealthstated that those
who accumulated money had an obligation to use it to promote the advancement of society

the rich and the poor as it changed. Carnegie compares the American past equality to the equality

Reflection In The Poetry Of Emily Dickinson sRoom
From another perspective. Sometimes lost, deep in thoughts, tough emotions and feelings.
Sometimes looking, staring but again not watching something. Sometimes imaging big dreams,
big things distracted in soul visions but never finding anything in reality. Surrounded by same
objects, life, people, big roads, big decisions, choices. We, the people we are unique, we are a
mosaic with rare, colorful pieces. The way we live the life, enjoy the world, see the things makes
us who we are. In dark or light, confident or not, walking or halting. Under the sun s beam, warm
and relieved; under the cold moon and shining stars that fill the black, mysterious, endless
sky, thinking in sadness. Often in reality; rarely in our mind. Every time contemplating the miracles
of the nature. Enjoying the infinite universe with just two finite eyes just enough. Every creature
that can see has a power. And all creatures have another one called the art of seeing vision.
Can we do without the windows of soul eyes?
Can we live with feelings and vision?
This question can have thousands of questions full of emotions. A diversity of thoughts for a theme
that raises contradictions. I think no, you think maybe but what does Dickinson think? What does
the blind poet that feels the world from her room thinks? Some critics have used her life to try to
explain her poetry, and others have tried to explain her life by referring to her poems, which they
assume are autobiographical. Emily Dickinson is a passionate poet that expresses herself without
barriers. With a diamond hard language that reflects light to the dark and hope, inspiration till the
last moment.
Emily Dickinson s poetry speaks powerfully to us. It captures her insights and recreates meaningful
events in living; it helps us to understand and even to re live our own experiences through her
intensity and with her emotional and intellectual clarity. In the first stanza Before she got her eye

Whatever decision they make we want to know when, where, why, and how. This is because
whatever decision that they make will determine what will happen with this country as a whole in
the long run. So what is the best way to find out what s going on with our government? Why the
media of course. The media plays a major part in every aspect of the government including what
happens in elections, the reporting of major military operations and how the American peoplewill
react to certain political situations or scandals. Here are some the ways that the media affects the
way we think when it comes to the government.
The Right to Laugh: Media Satire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One recent case where the mass media poked fun at and satirized the government was the year 2000
election. In the time where ballots and votes became confused and the state of Florida became the
punch line to many a water cooler joke, shows such as the ones above took the story and ran with it.
From the very beginning the satire of political figures played its role in the election. According to
the Washington Post and the Pew Research Center, 47 percent of Americans under the age of 30
receive around 26% of their information about candidates, amongst other political matters, through
late night comedy television. This trend has been labeled by many Infotainment. The viewers are
receiving information about political issues and their government, but through a sarcastic or
humorous filter that creates a different culture of informed citizens.
When the poll results in the 2000 election came in, the jokes seemed to last longer than the re
counts. Even now 3 years later the jokes continue to be evoked. Recently at the academy awards,
while on stage to receive his academy award for his very humorous gun control documentary
Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore called George W. Bush a fictitious president while
following with jokes about the pope and the Dixie chicks.
Indeed, when we live in an entertainment and media saturated culture such as the USA, such

Essay On Attending Parsons
Six years ago, I attended my first college tour during junior high school, we had an amazing tour
at Parsons: The New School. Through the visit, I discovered a new environment full of talented
people who weren t afraid to be themselves and not afraid to be judged or picked on because of
their race, gender, or sexuality. Attending Parsons: The New School will have a powerful impact
on my success in and out of college. Being an African Muslim male growing up in the U.S there
are restrictions and standards I must uphold to be considered a man. However, not living up to
these standards causes men like me to become outcast in society, afraid to open up restricting

So we can conclude that the relationship between the 3 month T Bill rate and implied 3 month
forward rate of interest are closer than the relationship between 3 month T bill rates and Dow Jones
Index. 5.2(Third Model) Y=ОІ0+ОІ1X (ОІ0 = the intercept of 3 Month T bill rate) (ОІ1 = the
slope of implied 1 year forward rate of interest) 3 Month T Bill Rates= 0.01328+1.14838*implied

say that when implied 3 month forward rate of interest increased by 1, 3 Month T bill rates will
increase by 114.838% .Compare with the second model, according to the SAS output, we can see
that the R square between3 month T Bill rate and implied 1 year forward rate of interest is 0.8145
which is much less than the R square between 3 month T bill rates. With implied 3 month forward

Persuasive Essay On Noise Pollution
are being presented with a sense of urgency, we need to be concerned about the greenhouse gases
fireworks produce, which include Carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone. In addition, Fireworks fallout
can contaminate water supplies and residue on the ground can be carried away by rain and end up
in our lakes, rivers, or oceans. Along with both these types of pollutions, Fireworks can be loud and
the vibrations can travel far which results in noise pollution. In the middle of the night fireworks
often disturb people trying to sleep. Fireworks can exceed 140 decibels and noise at 85 decibels or
above can damage hearing. Some people also argue the noise from fireworks scares pets and
wildlife like birds, etc.
For the color effect of fireworks, toxic heavy metals like barium, aluminum, lead, mercury salts,
antimony, copper, and strontium can be used in firework compositions. Outdated heavy metals that
have been used in the past include rubidium and cadmium. Some toxic elements are supposedly not
used in fireworks anymore like lead compounds, chlorates, and mercury as mercurous chloride
(calomel), but some firework chemical outlets still sell some of these ingredients.
Experimental Procedure
Many fireworks are imported from China which is scary because they have a proven track record
of cutting corners by using cheaper, more toxic materials. Some of the metals also have
radioactive isotopes. The American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL) has established a
testing and certification program for Chinese and U.S. fireworks to determine if they are being
produced according to AFSL Standards, which means it meets all U.S. federal requirements. Along
with the AFSL testing s, there have been many case study that prove that fireworks can be
extremely harmful to the environment. The following table shows the toxic elements of Fireworks
and what it is used for. As it is examined, it is clear to see that all the elements from the combustion
reaction can be very harmful to the environment and the living population in multiple different
ways.

Governors are hardworking individuals with unique jobs, just like our president, governors are
elected by the people every four years and can only serve for a total of two terms. Although elected
in similar ways as the president, being elected governor is different. The difference between
governor and president elections being held are by citizens of the state rather than the entire United
States. Thinking about becoming a governor should take someone a lot of thought. Governor s
jobs begin with signing or vetoing bills passed by legislators, declaring special elections filling
offices, recommending bills based on funding, delivering reports on the state legislator. This could

Tying to the automotive industry, Dingell is attempting to dramatically reduce the amount of

Should books be banned? Books are a gateway to a world of imagination, but some schools are
trying to shut those gates off by banning them. Books are some of the best teachers left, it s not up
to a school to decide what a child should or should not read. Banning books can deprive a child of
the opportunity to think. Books should not be banned because of the lessons they can teach, the
fact that a schoolshould not even be able to ban them, and it can deprive a child of the opportunity
to think. Books are some of the best teachers we have they teach us vocabulary social skills and
new ways of thinking (leigh). It s also true that textbooks could teach a child this, but not in the
way they would learn from a story. When a child is really engaged in a story they will learn a lot

Personal Views On Music Therapy Philosophies
Personal Views on Music Therapy Philosophies There are many different views and approaches
used in therapy and in society in general. These views include: cognitive, behavioral, cognitive
behavioral, psychodynamic, biological, and humanistic (Comer, 2014). Some of the approaches
used include the Orff approach, Dalcroze approach, Kodaly approach, Bonny Method of Guided
Imagery and Music, and Nordoff Robbins approach (Darrow, 2008). Darrow explained the different
philosophies, populations, and applications of these diverse approaches. In music therapy, the
theory that is practiced by a music therapist will determine the types of approaches and terms
used and how they use them. The approaches used will also affect how they interact with clients.
The different approaches can elicit very different interactions with clients (Darrow). There are
three main theories used in therapy. These three main theories are known as psychodynamic,
behavioral, and humanistic. The psychodynamic view is based on repressed thoughts and
feelings, the behavioral view is based on behaviors, and the humanistic view is based on self
actualization (Comer, 2014). Each of these views will be further explored as I piece together my
own personal philosophy and views on each main theory. The first theory, psychodynamic, was
developed by Sigmund Freud. He believed that our behaviors are determined by our unconscious
thoughts and instincts. He also believed that our behaviors are

Why Do I Want To Be An Architect Essay
Nowadays, students opt for the best job that will lead them to attain money in their career.
Architecture is one profession that requires sustained and concentrated work and other skills,
which will generally lead to a high income and immediate benefits in the future. It is true that
architecture is a demanding profession, but it also requires creativity and is never routine because
of the variety of tasks involved. No project is ever the same as the one before. Like other jobs, in
architecture, architects need to have many necessary and essential skills and abilities. Some think
that to be a good architect, it s a must to be excellent at drawingand to have artistic skills. It s

That s why they have to act as a bridge between a given project and how that project fits into the
broader context. Architects make presentations to clients, discuss design programs and problems
and alternative solutions, appear before public bodies and are frequently referring, explaining,
teaching and persuading (6 essential skills for an architect, 2005). One of the major benefits that an
architect has to bring to the enterprise is to integrate the solution for a particular project with the
business domain, enterprise concerns, industry standards, established patterns, and best practices.
Next, architects have to analyze the data that they have collected accurately and deeply to know
every single detail about their project. The analysis consists of knowing the key elements of the
problem and the solution to find the relationship between them and to notice how they can be
combined together to provide a higher value. As Daigneau said, Finally I reluctantly answered
stating that I thought architects should have a good understanding of the business problem domain
including its general strategies and tactics (Daigneau, 2005). Once the overall is

Disadvantages Of A Big Family
There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common
misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a
family you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time
the largest part of a familyis the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are
five different categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family.
The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family
which only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they
know best. They always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they
are kind enough to give constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! However,
being the all knowing sibling is not the only responsibility of this type. They also are either a
mommy or daddy s kid. This duty is taken extremely seriously, and they feel that it is absolutely
a necessity to defend their parent whenever their so called honor is in danger from another
sibling. How they protect their parent is actually quite simple where they will use a superbly
developed matter of fact tone to degrade their fellow kin back to kindergarten and ask questions
such as, Why are you so upset? or You know you don t have to yell. The key to this technique is to
make sure that this is all done in front of their parent in

Loss Of Identity In Alan Moore s Watchmen
Rorschach s journal from the grave: It has been sometime since the comedian died. From then on

Through Alan Moore s exquisite writing and plot twists he encompasses identity, real world
problems, and nonВsuperhero like storytelling.
Identity is one reason why Alan Moore s Watchmenis one of the most influential books of all time.
Each character in this novel has their own identity and viewpoint of the world. The most amazing
example of this is Rorschach. He is my favorite character in this book simply because his
viewpoint on the world is to lookout for himself and what he ... Show more content on

The fact that this takes place in USA late 1900s makes this book more relatable. Also this novel
has problems such as love, hatred, and violent crime. These real world problems are what makes
this novel even relatable. There is nothing like seeing superheros go through the same struggles we
go through daily. Finally, another reason why this book is very influential is that even though it is
a novel about superheroes it does not follow how, normally, a superhero story would be told. For
example, in
Superman comics, the clear villain is Lex Luthor and the clear hero is none other than
Superman. However in Watchmen Adrian Veidt was thought to be a superhero for most of the
novel until it was revealed that he was actually a villain. Also, the watchmen are supposed to be
heroes yet most of them come from terrible or violent backgrounds. This makes this novel that
much more riveting.
In Summation, Alan Moore s Watchmen is one of the best novels of all time. I believe it is
because this book is the embodiment of identity, real world problems, and nonВsuperhero like
storytelling. Identity in this novel is led by in my opinion the best character Rorschach

The Agony Of Rejection From Friends, Family, Schools, And...
By the time I was fourteen ... the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the
rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing. This quote
from Stephan King really hit me. The famous, successful man that we all know for his works
Carrie or The Shining , had once been rejected. It s crazy to think that someone so successful had
once been struggling. Maybe I choose this quote because that s how I m feeling right now and
the quote gives me some sort of hope. Unsuccessful, down, rejected are a few words to describe
it. The agony of rejection from friends, family, schools, and jobs all contribute. There s the pain
of boys denying you at my age, or applying for a job that you never hear back from. The constant
pressure to fit in with groups of girls in sororities and the fear they will judge you. The pressure
of school and the four tests coming up next week along with the everlasting point to make your
parents proud is a constant cycle in my life. These all are reasons that brought my attention to
Stephan King s quote. The thing is, he gives me hope for the future. Hope. That s a strong word.
It s not a promised outcome, or a permanent solution but it is something. It is something to look
forward to in the future and having a better outcome then before. Stephan King may have been
rejected from many schools and many jobs, but he decided to push through and keep going and
look where is he is now. That s what I have been

  • 3. Example Of Decision Analytic Models Decision analytic models are used to examine cost effectiveness of healthcare interventions. These models summarise available evidence succinctly for analysis. When there is a lack of observed evidence, expert opinions on the mean or median values (occasionally the minimum and maximum range) for the parameter of interest are commonly used. This does not provide sufficient information to examine whether the distribution of uncertainty surrounding the parameter of interest is representative of the experts opinion. As this is a key component in Probabilistic Sensitivity Analysis (PSA) commonly used in decision analytic models, as recommended by NICE(1), there is need to ensure the appropriate distribution of parameter uncertainty to... This systematic review by Grigore et al(2) highlighted the need for guidelines to critically appraise elicitation exercises and suggested for more research to define these measurement criteria. The authors proposed that until a definitive checklist is developed, the validity and reliability of the elicitation exercise should always be reported explicitly. Following this 2013 systematic review, the same authors published an article in 2016, on a study that compared the results for two commonly used elicitation methods, the histogram and hybrid methods(3). This study had the following 3 objectives 1)Examine how these two methods appealed to the experts, 2)Determine if there were any differences in the elicited distributions and; 3)Compare the impact of the elicited distributions on an actual decision model The study results showed that 1)Generally, the experts found the histogram method easier to use compared to the hybrid method although the two elicitation methods were closely ranked by the experts in terms of ease of use and face validity 2)The distributions from the histogram method were slightly narrower than the distributions from the hybrid method, suggesting greater certainty when aggregated. ... • 6. Persuasive Fishing Outline Introduction With fishing industries advancing dramatically, fishing gear now consists of equipment such as large nets and hooks to capture aquatic species at a much faster rate. But with such a large amount of fish being captured daily and many more being thrown away, we are reducing food supply. Thesis Statement: Advance in technology and fishing methods have made it easier to catch large amounts of fish in a short amount of time; resulting in endangering fish species, reduce reproduction rate, harm fish habitats, and reduce food supply for the future. II. Background Paragraph For centuries we have relied on fishing as a means for food. Over the years we have developed new methods of fishing and have enhanced our equipment to capture vast amounts of fish in a minimum amount of time. We now have industrial fishing companies that provide for our seafood demand. As we continue to capture large amounts of fish we begin to shorten supply for the future, reduce reproduction rates, disrupt food chains, harm habitats, and drive species to extinction. III. Paragraph I Overfishing has been a major threat to ocean inhabitants. Fishing industries use harsh methods to fish that unintentionally harm habitats or catch and kill fish that are untargeted. ... Pierre Trudeau Research Paper Pierre Trudeau, lawyer, politician, and the 15th Prime Minister of Canada, was a big part of keeping national unity during the Quebec sovereignty movement and referendum in 1980. He was also a big part in keeping the Canadian public calm, taking action and standing up to the FLQ during the October Crisis in 1970. Born in Outremont, Montreal on October 18, 1919, Pierre Elliott Trudeau (full name Joseph Philippe Pierre Yves Elliott Trudeau) was born to a wealthy family, along with one brother and one sister (another brother died at birth). His father, Charlie Trudeau (full name Joseph Charles Г‰mile Trudeau) was a wealthy French Canadian entrepreneur and lawyer who earned his wealth with his gas station business, the Automobile Owners Association. Within the mediums of popular culture, the representation of women has often been controversial, due to the use of their gender and the attitudes toward them. In a majority of anime themes, the women have been drawn for their sensuality and sexuality constraints. Their role was to be dominated by their male counterparts. It has reinforced the stereotypical role of women which is the passive and sensitive role. Why is popular culture important? It influences the thoughts of the people and shapes their attitudes and behaviours. During the late 20th century, Japan experienced the rise of feminist movements who desired to change the feminine historical narrative. How did Japanese women become empowered? Japanese women were getting an education, but remained unemployed compared to their male classmates.10 It was an illusionary freedom and women s rights progress because the system would not allow them to advance socially. The oppression becomes invisible that an outsider might believe that the Japanese women have gained their rights. Still, some may say that Japanese women were more discriminated than their western neighbours.11 They were hired as Office Flowers (shokuba no hana), meaning they were given small tasks without the title of a career path.12 Since Japan s employment advancement system is based on the years of service, the women are isolated into menial jobs that will not gain them any points towards job experience.13 Hence, the question becomes how can women overcome this silent and effective oppression. From a political perspective, the only way to change society is to transforms its laws to adapt to the development of Japanese women. During the forties and fifties, Japan passed many laws to allow women to participate within society. However, they were unable to stop the discrimination from occurring. It was a rare occurrence to see a Japanese women leading a company. This is because discrimination against women is a big source of profit for the Japanese economy.14 Even though, they increased their employment within the labour force, Japanese women have been denied access to social ... The lives of most people are not always perfect and probably never will be; and that s ok because having a life with its ups and downs is absolutely normal and ok. My life has had all of its up and downs and still does. I m pretty sure most people or maybe just a few can relate to the kind of things that have shaped me into the person I am today. Some may be bad or good experiences or people that have made any person they are today. It might be surprising to some people how much in common we have just by looking into our similar life changing experiences and encounters. These kind of events or people can make you into the person you are today and give you the personality that you think fits you best. Being in touch with God and my faith has really shaped me into the strong and independent person I am today, also going through depression and having a child at a young age has made me stronger as well. Not many people seem to fully understand how real depression is and how serious these feelings can be. But I do in dealing with depression, medication, and surviving suicide attempts. I can discuss my experiences truthfully and clearly. I remember the first time I thought of suicide. I thought of different ways to do it, when and where. The days would be endless when I was depressed. I felt like a piece of trash that was always getting stepped on or not seen. The mental institution I stayed at was so cold and dull. Every day I would wake up and hear the screams and cries of other children, some younger than me; They would beg to go home and cry saying i want to go home...let me see my mommy! I was constantly reminded of this situation every time I looked down at my wrist and arms. Cuts and bruises everywhere. Some from the doctors who constantly took out my blood or put stuff inside me, and some caused by myself. I did not see this as getting help at first, i felt like i was in prison. I felt like i was in trouble for what i had done. During my time of depression, i constantly felt alone. I was scared all the time and feared the thoughts of being alone forever. • 11. A Single Person, Group, Event Or Community Case studies are in depth investigations of a single person, group, event or community. Typically, data are gathered from a variety of sources and by using several different methods (e.g. observation interviews). The research may also continue for an extended period of time, so processes and developments can be studied as they happen. The case study started with the clinical studies where the medical history was recorded over a period of time and similar cases were handled with same procedure and identical symptoms were considered to group the diseases in one genera. In case study the hierarchy of events is recorded which have happened in the past leading to the current events and forecasting their effects in the future. The data for the case study can be collected from various sources which are easily accessible on the internet such as annual reports of the company, articles and blogs of the employees and the website content. For the detailed insight data, interview can be used as an effective tool .the facts can be gathered from the individual, friends, family, employer and other people surrounding the individual on which the case is studied. 7. • 12. Symbolic And Interpretive Anthropology Of The 1960 s And... The 1960 s and 1970 s in both Britain and the United States found a resurgence of interest in cultural meaning, in the field of symbolic and interpretive anthropology. Symbolic and Interpretive anthropology studies the way people understand their surroundings, actions and utterance of other members of their society through the examinations of symbols. These symbols can be displayed through processes of myth and ritualand reveal how humans/social groups assign meanings to these symbols in order to address fundamental questions about human social life. Symbolic and interpretative anthropologycan be divided into two major approaches, wherein, one is associated with Victor Turner and the other with Clifford Geertz. Victor Turner was a British anthropologist who studied rituals and social change particularly among the Ndembu of Zambia. Through his work Turner was able to reveal how the process of social change unfolded from the point of view of the individual experiences and the development of common beliefs that are maintained by the social group. From the excerpt, Symbols in Ndembu Ritual , Turner depicts his search for the meaning of ritual and symbolism in puberty/circumcision rights of passage among young girls and boys in relation to the adults in their tribes. Reminiscent of Max Gluckman, Turner viewed all rituals as containing religious or spiritual components in the referents of the symbolism involved and described symbols as the smallest unit of ritual which ... Nike, the American sports brand giant who makes up 31% of the athletic footwear market (Keady, 2011), has been noted for creating political statements alongside the consumer goods that they produce. As seen in the short black and white filmed advertisement, famous American athletes Lebron James, Megan Rapinoe, Kevin Durant, and Serena Williams are depicted standing up against social inequalities experienced by racial minorities and other marginalized groups; other marginalized groups include those such as the LGBT community as represented by soccer star Megan Rapinoe. As seen with the Nike equality campaign commercial, Nike is calling for those who buy their products to almost break through the current social boundaries and to move past these lines. The quote of moving past these lines aids in furthering the post Fordist concept of uniqueness as it almost encourages one to think outside the box and to be different by going against societal limitations and norms while in hopes of striving for equality; it gives a sense of inspiration to those who witness the commercial. Nike is commanding for not only their consumer base, but all those who view this ad to be active in fighting for equality for all races and other minority groups. Nike believes this idea starts with you, and not by those who are atop the social hierarchy like those in governmental positions; taking a bottom to top approach. This idea exemplified by Nike gives the consumer a stronger feeling of empowerment within the world in which they live. The idea of individual self control and power is further highlighted through the quote by the narrator, Michael B. Jordan, who states here you re defined by your actions. In this instance, each individual in society is considered for being responsible for change. Nike s willingness of taking into account the various people who make up society is shown ... SUMMARY This paper broadly talks about co locating of compute and storage nodes in HPC architecture to overcome the I/O challenges in scientific applications. In a conventional HPC architecture compute nodes and storage nodes are located far apart and are interconnected via shared network. The bottleneck of the system is the gap between compute node and I/O which continues to widen up with increasing storage. The idea of co locating distributed storage nodes with compute nodes seems to be an eye catcher, as it allows the applications to perform their computation or manipulate their intermediate results and checkpoints, the data only needed to be transferred over the network for archival purpose only. Causes of the Financial Crisis of 2008-2009 Causes of The Financial Crisis of 2007 2009 According to our financial textbook Financial crises are major disruptions in financial markets characterized by sharp declines in asset prices and firm failures (Mishkin and Eakins 2012). In August 2007, defaults in mortgage market for subprime borrowers sent a shudder through the financial markets, leading to the worst U.S financial crisis since the Great Depression. Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Fed, described the financial crisis as a once in a century credit tsunami . (Mishkin and Eakins 2012). In the end, these unregulated originators were concerned on their commission fee, for personal gains, not if any of the loans were going to default. The Originate to Distribute model plays an essential role, on the unregulated mortgage originators perspective and agenda. Many mortgage brokers and lenders operated under the originate to distribute model whereby they originated loans solely for the purpose of selling them. This model allowed them to earn loan origination fees without incurring any type of credit risk. Many times this model, allowed the unregulated originators to take additional fees for collecting loan payments, escrowing and making payments for property taxes and insurance premiums. The Methods That Are Used By The Standard Transactions D The two methods that are used by the expert include the comparable transactions method, which uses the multiples in the market to determine the value, and also the DCF method, which is used to discount the future cash flows back to determine the current value of the shares. Different methods have different strengths and weaknesses. According to Ross (2009), the comparable transaction method is used and the strength is that it uses the historical actual transactions that are comparable to the Woolworths transaction, so that the valuation is justified by the market conditions. In the meantime, the weakness of the comparable transaction is that different transactions have different companies involved and the transactions are conducted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the comparable transaction method, the expert uses the acquisition of Saks and acquisition of Neiman Marcus as comparable transactions. The methods are correct, as both of these are retailers. However, it is also important to realize the weakness, which is that these two companies do not have exactly the same products as David James. Another weakness is that the number of comparable transactions is too small and the multiples that are used for valuation vary considerably, so that large discrepancies are generated. The DCF method is a useful method. In this case the assumptions that are made in the DCF method are reasonable. The DCF also includes many different scenarios that are used for valuation. However, one of the major weaknesses of this is that the variation of valuation is very large. Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that although both methods are good for valuation purposes, the weaknesses generated could impact the accuracy of the results. The growth rate that is assumed in the DCF valuation is 2.5%, which is reasonable. According to Ross (2009), the growth rate of 2.5% matches the long term growth rate of the Australian economy and therefore it is justified. The Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly concur with the United States Supreme Court s decision. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases (Sattler 26). Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty. Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress gets high very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation fail, this is a thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the reader to remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also provoking us to examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with stressful conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by describing the processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally. Know Thyself Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point in this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to evolve without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author provided, in retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it differently. Holly Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of emotional situation we probably make the same type of mistakes every time. The author has a good word for it, tactics, though unlike the tactics deployed consciously when running a war or wining a race, these tactics are ones the subconscious uses to ... In the opening of the movie, Bauby is unaware that he cannot speak because he shows confusion when no one is responding to what he is saying. Her work is meant to persuade readers that the glass ceiling isn t a myth, but a real and serious problem. Being the Chair and Executive Director of the National Committee on Pay Equity, Sarah has plenty of reason for wanting to persuade this topic. Her thesis effectively starts this process by laying out what is happening. This theory is circulating widely among the press perhaps because it is controversial and contradicts what has become rather boring to the media but what remains are the real life experiences of women and people of color no real change in the wage gap and no improvement in the glass ceiling (Bianchi Sand p.306). Sonnet 18 has become one of his most well loved poems. Shakespeare includes symbols of time, decay and eternity within this work. The speaker explicates his unending love for his beloved and how it will live on after death. The first quatrain introduces the personification of summer. The speaker begins the sonnet by asking if he can compare his friend to a warm, summer day. A brief statement stating how lovely and temperate thee is follows this rhetorical question. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, Shakespeare s first example of personification, says that strong winds can hurt the new flower buds and summer s lease hath all too short a date, explains that the season does not last long. The mention of a lease refers to the fact that summer must end. The personification of nature is even more evident in the second quatrain. This time the sun is named the eye of heaven. The speaker also suggests that the sun is sometimes hidden. Additionally, it is said that everything that has beauty will fade. This may be by chance or by inevitable time. Shakespeare uses the word untrimm d to refer to these fair things as losing their decorations, or trimmings. However, the speaker has changed the overall tone at the beginning of the third quatrain. These birds are migratory in nature and tend to move through Missouri through during the fall and spring, visiting various Missouri wetlands as they pass through. It has been found that the presence of these illusive birds can serve as an indicator of the health of a wetland s ecosystem with these birds preferring to stop in wetlands that feature shallow water and denser vegetation. The secretive marsh birds that the article refers to are almost impossible to find without high tech portable tools and even then that only works during the mating season of these birds were they are the most vocal. However, even those these birds are typically neither heard nor seen by humans they interact with their environment acting as the consumers of the dense vegetation that is plentiful in the wetland environment. They also act as the prey for their predators becoming a food source for these animals that without these birds would have a more limited source of food during the fall and spring seasons. Due to the fact that these birds do have an impact on the wetlands of Missouri it is important that we promote conservation efforts within these ecosystems in order to ensure that all of the species that live in and utilize the wetland have the resources they need to survive in the future. Sometimes looking, staring but again not watching something. Sometimes imaging big dreams, big things distracted in soul visions but never finding anything in reality. The way we live the life, enjoy the world, see the things makes us who we are. In dark or light, confident or not, walking or halting. And all creatures have another one called the art of seeing vision. Can we do without the windows of soul eyes? Can we live with feelings and vision? This question can have thousands of questions full of emotions. A diversity of thoughts for a theme that raises contradictions. I think no, you think maybe but what does Dickinson think? In addition, Fireworks fallout can contaminate water supplies and residue on the ground can be carried away by rain and end up in our lakes, rivers, or oceans. Along with both these types of pollutions, Fireworks can be loud and the vibrations can travel far which results in noise pollution. In the middle of the night fireworks often disturb people trying to sleep. Fireworks can exceed 140 decibels and noise at 85 decibels or above can damage hearing. Some people also argue the noise from fireworks scares pets and wildlife like birds, etc. For the color effect of fireworks, toxic heavy metals like barium, aluminum, lead, mercury salts, antimony, copper, and strontium can be used in firework compositions. Outdated heavy metals that have been used in the past include rubidium and cadmium. Some toxic elements are supposedly not used in fireworks anymore like lead compounds, chlorates, and mercury as mercurous chloride (calomel), but some firework chemical outlets still sell some of these ingredients. Experimental Procedure Many fireworks are imported from China which is scary because they have a proven track record of cutting corners by using cheaper, more toxic materials. Some of the metals also have radioactive isotopes. As Daigneau said, Finally I reluctantly answered stating that I thought architects should have a good understanding of the business problem domain including its general strategies and tactics (Daigneau, 2005). • 48. Problem Set Me1 Problem Set #2 The US College Enrollment and the Third Law of Demand A theorem proposed by Professors Alchian and Allen in their text, University Economics (1964) has had several rebirths of interest in the literature. The so called third law of demand, or relative price theorem, holds that a fixed cost added to a good of varying quality causes the consumer to prefer the category considered of higher quality to the lower. Recently a number of studies, keeping this theorem in mind have looked into a relationship between the ratio of public to private enrollment and unemployment in cross sectional as well as in time series data. Part of the full cost of participating in higher education is foregone employment income. In their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. Disadvantages Of A Big Family There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a family you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time the largest part of a familyis the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are five different categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family. The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family which only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they know best. They always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they are kind enough to give constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! However, being the all knowing sibling is not the only responsibility of this type. They also are either a mommy or daddy s kid. This duty is taken extremely seriously, and they feel that it is absolutely a necessity to defend their parent whenever their so called honor is in danger from another sibling. How they protect their parent is actually quite simple where they will use a superbly developed matter of fact tone to degrade their fellow kin back to kindergarten and ask questions such as, Why are you so upset? or You know you don t have to yell. The key to this technique is to make sure that this is all done in front of their parent in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Loss Of Identity In Alan Moore s Watchmen Rorschach s journal from the grave: It has been sometime since the comedian died. From then on nothing has been a laughing matter. Us watchmen have been through nuclear war, murder, and ice cold twists and turns. I feel like our story could be influential to anyone s life. Through Alan Moore s exquisite writing and plot twists he encompasses identity, real world problems, and nonВsuperhero like storytelling. Identity is one reason why Alan Moore s Watchmenis one of the most influential books of all time. Each character in this novel has their own identity and viewpoint of the world. The most amazing example of this is Rorschach. He is my favorite character in this book simply because his viewpoint on the world is to lookout for himself and what he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that this takes place in USA late 1900s makes this book more relatable. Also this novel has problems such as love, hatred, and violent crime. These real world problems are what makes this novel even relatable. There is nothing like seeing superheros go through the same struggles we go through daily. Finally, another reason why this book is very influential is that even though it is a novel about superheroes it does not follow how, normally, a superhero story would be told. For example, in Superman comics, the clear villain is Lex Luthor and the clear hero is none other than Superman. However in Watchmen Adrian Veidt was thought to be a superhero for most of the novel until it was revealed that he was actually a villain. Also, the watchmen are supposed to be heroes yet most of them come from terrible or violent backgrounds. This makes this novel that much more riveting. In Summation, Alan Moore s Watchmen is one of the best novels of all time. I believe it is because this book is the embodiment of identity, real world problems, and nonВsuperhero like storytelling. Identity in this novel is led by in my opinion the best character Rorschach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Agony Of Rejection From Friends, Family, Schools, And... By the time I was fourteen ... the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing. This quote from Stephan King really hit me. The famous, successful man that we all know for his works Carrie or The Shining , had once been rejected. It s crazy to think that someone so successful had once been struggling. Maybe I choose this quote because that s how I m feeling right now and the quote gives me some sort of hope. Unsuccessful, down, rejected are a few words to describe it. The agony of rejection from friends, family, schools, and jobs all contribute. There s the pain of boys denying you at my age, or applying for a job that you never hear back from. The constant pressure to fit in with groups of girls in sororities and the fear they will judge you. The pressure of school and the four tests coming up next week along with the everlasting point to make your parents proud is a constant cycle in my life. These all are reasons that brought my attention to Stephan King s quote. The thing is, he gives me hope for the future. Hope. That s a strong word. It s not a promised outcome, or a permanent solution but it is something. It is something to look forward to in the future and having a better outcome then before. Stephan King may have been rejected from many schools and many jobs, but he decided to push through and keep going and look where is he is now. That s what I have been ...
