similar to concepts in contemporary social service programs? Explain how it is similar. (150

Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs today. According to the conditions of the English
Poor Laws, certain individuals (e.g., widows, children, ill, disabled, etc.) are considered dependent
and thus in need of help, whereas others (e.g., lazy, able bodied adults, etc.) considered voluntarily

The bureau, under the direction of the U.S. Army and General Oliver O. Howard, served to
provide freedmen with basic human necessities along with an equal opportunity to obtain and
maintain economic gain. However, the bureau failed to provide such promising provisions for
several reasons. First, aside from the negative disposition of White southerners towards black
freedmen, the bureau s leadership and their paternalistic views are responsible for its failure
(McFeely, 1971). More specifically, General Howard s lack of direct experience working with
blacks and the conservative views of senior army men (i.e., their harsh aversions toward blacks)
contributed to the bureaus inability to perform (McFeely, 1971). Second, the nations mood toward
the Freedmen s Bureau was of disdain as it interfered with the underlying agendas of white
southerners to immobilize blacks from gaining economic stability through land ownership. As a
result, agent of the bureau were plagued with difficulties and thus lacked support in securing an
upward economic base for freedmen. Third, President Andrew Johnson s opposition toward the
Freedman s Bureau contributed to its inefficiencies by limiting its resources and pardoning White
farmers restoration of their property (McFeely, 1971). This is political and economical leverage

4. Meaning the Medium Is the Message
What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist
McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and
dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in
operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal
and social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new
scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.
(McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media,
in which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The... Show more content on

In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action
on the part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct
from the medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are
not the news stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the
creation of a climate of fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and
seek the nonobvious changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the
new thing. McLuhan defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding
Media, he tells us that a medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a
hammer extends our arm and that the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more
than our bodies could do on their own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts
from within our mind out to others. Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual
sensory experience, speech is an outering of our senses we could consider it as a form of
reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the world into our minds, speech takes our
sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan always thought of a medium in the sense
of a growing medium,

6. Influence of Digital Social Networks
Influence Of Digital Social Networks
Social networks have immensely shaped as well as changed the contemporary society. Human
interactions, in various settings, such as the workplace and social spaces have been extremely re
designed that a person can communicate, interact, and share his or her daily life experiences with
whomever he or she pleases with just a few clicks of the button. Digital social networking has
influenced all age groups and aspects of human life. Therefore, if implemented in the correct
manner, it stands exceedingly useful in helping individuals and entities, such as businesses flourish
and become prosperous (1). Digital social networking could be defined as an organization of

On these sites, people interrelate liberally, share, and discuss information about their living aspects
using a combination of particular words, audio, images, and videos.
Digital social networking remains a concern because it presents threats and advantages to
individuals of all age groups. The major concerns put forward about digital social networking
touch on legal, ethical, and social issues. Although no one can deny that digital social
networking has changed the scene of social relations, predominantly among the young
generation, the society is just starting to witness the evil side of the social media. Evil is exactly
the correct term, people deliberately go out on social networks to put others down, and verbally
abuse them on the Web. Even more often people are not being hired because of their posts and
lifestyles they share on their social networks. Here at TCU we were taught from the beginning to
be extremely cautious on what and how we post anything on the Internet. A good rule of thumb is
that if you post anything be prepared for anyone to read or see what you have posted. Which raises
the whole ethic component of our Digital Explosions class. Ones ethics can be seriously questioned
by posting on digital social networks. Is what someone else does with what you posted ethical? If I

7. Wizard Of Oz Movie Vs Book
There s no place like home (The Wizard): one of the most memorable dialogues of The Wizard
of Oz, directed by Victor Fleming. This quote is the basis of various themes of the film.
However, this movie is but one interpretation of the original work, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
by Frank Baum. The two pieces are similar and have the same general story lines, but the themes
the two were trying to depict are not as similar as one might think. At first glance, Baum s book
might be portraying the same message as the movie, but analysis of the other books in the Oz book
series is required to truly understand Baum s theories. Though Fleming s The Wizard of Ozand
Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Ozare similar in terms of plot, Baum and Fleming... Show more

Baum, Jonathan Swift was also a satirical and progressive writer. His essay A Modest Proposal,
one of the most acclaimed pieces in satirical writing, discusses ridiculous, unrealistic solutions to
help improve economic conditions of Ireland. A concept analyzed in Swift s essay similar to
concepts in the Oz books series is Swift s anger [...] aimed at all social classes in Ireland
(Ferguson, Oliver). Being part of a class system limits people to a certain lifestyle, creating
prejudices. Swift is against the idea of restricting people to one way of living. Because the Irish
obey to the system implemented by the British, little to no action was made against the horrid
economic conditions of Ireland at the time Swift published his essay. Swift gave many
suggestions to relieve social and economic turmoil of Ireland, but none of his suggestions were
considered. The wealthy put in power by the British were prospering while the rest of the island
was in chaos. His essay not only criticizes the wealthy, but also the citizens that were conforming
to the terrible economic conditions. Swift believes the people could have done more to help their
nation if they were dauntless enough to make a difference. Baum portrayed similar themes in his
Oz books. Baum and Swift were men ahead of their time that encouraged progression and new
experiences. Baum would definitely be one to disagree with a social class system that forces a
single purpose of living onto a group of people.

8. The Death Of The Dead Poets Society
Are parents abusing the power they have over their children? There are parents who involve
themselves in their child s life so much the child has no say in anything. Being limited or
neglected from pursuing one s goal can lead to depression. Something similar to this takes place
in the film Dead Poets Society. In this film a character named Neil is prohibited from pursuing
his goals of becoming an actor by his father. This results in at least one argument found in the
film. In fact, three arguments can be identified in Dead Poets Society. One argument found in
Dead Poets Society is that Mr. Keating should not have told the boys about the Dead Poets
Society. This is supported when the boys (Neil, Todd, Knox, Charlie, Cameron, and Pitts) spoke
with Mr. Keating about the Dead Poet Society. Pleased with the boy s interest with the Dead
Poets Society he says: The Dead Poets were dedicated to sucking the marrow out of life. [...]You
see we d gather at the old Indian cave and take turns reading from Thoreau, Whitman, Shelley;
the biggies (Dead Poets Society). Here, Mr. Keating without knowing encouraged the boys to re
establish the Dead Poets Society, leading to the boys sneaking out of their rooms after curfew. An
act like this can lead to the boys receiving demerits which can possibly lead to expulsion.
Additional support for this argument can be found when Neil tells Todd that he had gotten the lead
role in the play. Neil says: NEIL. They need a letter of

Similarities and Differences in the Rise of the Roman and Mayan Civilizations
Between 600 BCE and 600 CE, the Mayan Civilization in Mesoamerica and the Roman
Civilization rose to the height of their power. Rome was rapidly growing as a Republic and then
Empire, creating a legacy throughout Europe and Asia that would leave a lasting impact for
centuries. The Empire conquered land by use of political force, religious unity, and maintaining
power through a strong economy. The Mayans were heavily based around religion. It was used as
a motivation to expand their civilization, gaining political power and a strong economy. However,
they were not considered an Empire due to decentralization of government. The rise of the Mayans
and the Romans differed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mayan political system was divided into city states, where each had their own government,
similarly to Ancient Greece. During the rise of the civilization, a social hierarchy was created,
with religious figures and priests at the top granting them political power. This allowed for
society to be dominated by religion, and for political figures to use religion to monopolize
power and support. The Mayans expanded their civilization to gain more human sacrifices, or in
the name of their religion, opposed to the Romans who expanded for political power. However,
the Romans had very centralized systems of government. During the rise of the Republic, the
new ideology of democracy and the defeat of the Persian Empire in the Persian War allowed for a
societal belief in a strong government to rise. The Roman people believed that they have a strong
centralized government, and people became increasingly greedy for power. Change occurred in
Roman political power during the rise of the Empire. When Alexander the Great expanded the
Roman Empire to the height of its political control by conquering nations throughout Europe and
Asia, the greed for power is evident. The centralization of the Roman government allowed for
expansion of the Empire through economic and religious growth, monopolizing control of trade
throughout its territory and spreading religious ideology through the enforced religious unity and

11. The Pros And Cons Of Child Rearing
One of the most heavily debated aspects of abuse when it comes to child rearing is defining
what abuse is relative to the cultural traditions of a society. More particularly, these cultural
specific patterns of child rearing have been one of the most controversial topics in terms of child
abuse because what might seem as abusive for some cultures might not exactly be seen as such in
another (Bornstein, 1991). A good example of this type of duality would be the difference between
Western and Eastern Standards of child rearing and control. In the United States, spanking and
badmouthing is considered to be abusive in the sense that policies have even been established to
mitigate these behaviors from the parents. However, in countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and
China, among others, spanking and use of bad words are considered to be normal as long as it is
within acceptable limits (e.g. not inflicting grave injuries and permanent marks). Nevertheless,
contrary to what the western perspective thinks about the use of intense physical and verbal means
of rearing the child, children in the East are not exactly those how would experience psychological
abuseor other types of emotional repercussions, because in the first place they know exactly what
the is the purpose of acts like this. Now, this poses the question, if child rearing is relative, what
would be considered as abusive and not, especially in terms of the verbal and psychological aspects
of it. According to Pingleton

13. Childhood Cognition, By Walter Benjamin
In a series of reflections scattered throughout The Arcades Project and elsewhere, Walter Benjamin
offers a view of childhood cognition as defined by an immediacy between perception and action; the
inherently tactile relation between thought and world elicited by the child invokes a direct
relationship of thought and action and so a capacity to transform the world.1 Rather than accept the
given meaning of things, children are said to acquire knowledge by grabbing objects, analysing
them in new ways, putting them to uses beyond those to which they were intended (think of the
ubiquitous admission of the childs preference for the wrapping to the toy).2 Play thus has a
redemptive quality. As an experimental and tactile engagement with the... Show more content on

In his book Noise, Jacques Attali articulates a similarly lapsarian trajectory to physiological and

14. Leaders Like Martin Luther King, Jr.
Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill and Hitler have one
thing in common; the word charisma is usually attached to them when people describe their
characteristics as a leader. Charisma defined by the online Merriam Webster Dictionary is a
personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as
a political leader); a special magnetic charm or appeal (Merriam Webster, 2014). The Oxford
Dictionary states that charismais Compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in
others (Oxford University Press, 2014).
Max Weber (known as the father of sociology) first introduced the concept of charisma with the
relationship to power and authority. He described charisma as a personality trait that sets her/him
apart from the masses. The charismatic individual is deemed to have supernatural, superhuman,
or to possess exceptional power that is not readily accessible to a regular person (Weber, 1947).
Weber further believed that charisma was the result of a social crisis and that these leaders have
extraordinary appeal because they ...emerge with the radical vision that provides the solution to the
crisis (Barbuto, 1997, p. 689). For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. arose in the civil rights
movement as a beacon of change, equality and eventually for peace.
The power of the charismatic leader is often defined by how the followers perceive and act.

Giant toy stores since they do not manufacture their own products, attempt to develop brand
loyalty to the stores themselves. The shopping experience itself is now sold to consumers.
Retailers want customers to think of their stores as a destination, not a mere outlet for the
distribution of products. Their goal is to move attention away from the products sold, which are
available anywhere, even over the Internet, to the place where the products are sold. Diamond
Toys, one of such specialty toy shops in USA emphasizes status, high quality, unique
merchandise and excellent service. Their goal is to attract a wealthy, cosmopolitan clientele
seeking unique, high quality toys sold by solicitous, knowledgeable service workers. Hence,
stores in the Diamond Toys chain are generally located in upscale shopping districts in major
cities and are built to resemble amusement parks making them appeal to tourists as well as to the
wealthy. Hence, the image the store wants to build for itself, the clientele it wishes to serve, play
a major role in deciding store locations. A store which is interested in building an image of value
for money and offers large discounts will probably locate itself in the city outskirts and depend
upon the discount and variety if offers to lure customers to make the trip

23. Summary Of Sandra Bem s Lenses On Gender
The Lenses on Gender by Sandra Bem (1993) focuses on gender polarization throughout chapter
four. The most significant aspect the to passage to me was the concept of androgyny. At first, it was
surprising to me that androgyny was harshly criticized, but I came to understand the issue with the
word. Androgyny, although trying to escape the grasp of genderpolarization, still encompasses
gender polarizing qualities. Even knowing this, I find the word to be beautiful. It provides both a
vision of utopia and a model of mental health that does not require the individual to banish from
the self whatever attributes and behaviors the culture may have stereotypically defined as
inappropriate for his or her sex, (Bem, 1993, p. 124). In a society, one

In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, the Finches live in Maycomb, Alabama. Atticus Finch is a
lawyer and is also the father of Scout and Jem. In this case, Atticus is defending a black man who is
accused of raping a white woman. Throughout the book, Atticus teaches lessons to his children,
represents an outstanding parent, and impacts those who admire him as a lawyer. To begin with,
Atticus teaches multiple lessons to his children. For example, on page 39, You never really

The analysis was carried out on the data collected with the help of a questionnaire. The
questionnaire was administered to a sample of individuals selected from Delhi NCR, belonging to
different age group and using different types of credit cards thereby constituting a heterogeneous
population mix. This study provides useful information for developing, or revising, university

26. A Study On Child Development Essay
Introduction Observing a child will increase the knowledge on how child react in different
situations; also, comparing to other cases, there might be some similarities, but there must be
differences. In these observations, we are focused on the social relationships, reactions, language,
and emotion. Based on what we have learned in the class, I know children a bit more than usual.
Some children might be more mature than their ages, but some children might not be on their ages
yet. For example, asking children to solve the same problem that some children can finish it very
quick, but some of them finish it slower or cannot finish it at all. I have done several observations
before using running record, time sampling, and other observationsystem. Even though case
studies provide child development major students a lot of examples, it cannot be sure that every
child will act the same way. From the previous experiences, the child I observed was active and
had good social relationships with her peers and teachers. She gave me a feeling like she was not
only five years old. Based on we could not talk to the child while observing that prevent us to get
more information we needed. Collecting data from the target child is only from what we saw and
what we heard that made me not able to get the information which was on the assignment sheets.
Additionally, there was time limit for every observation. Since I did not know the child well, it was

not ready to accept the reality of her father s sudden death. She told them that her father was not

By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain
experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual
release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word.
We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before
practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these
practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that
students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before
performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during reading activity, to give
students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they
read to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them
apart, at this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that
motivation is not lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we
will have each student chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students
will practice pronouncing their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The
students will then create their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings,
and then share it aloud with the group. This process creates a learning experience where students
are able to practice not only their phonics skills but also work on comprehension. This process
incorporates repetition to enforce the importance and practice with this

stages of action research like planning, action, analysis, observing each and every task that is

arrangements to be adaptable. According to the Kurt Lewin s model, the covering of activity and
reflection is planned to allow changes in arrangements as the individuals learn from experience
(Huxham, 1996). Generally Action Researchprocess starts by identifying the particular issue. Once
the issue is identified, the AR team starts collecting relevant data. The required data is collected by
various methods like conducting surveys, interacting and interviewing people. Once the data is
collected it is reported to the organization, researchers identify the need for change (Huxham, 1996).
Action Research Models
According to Cunningham (1993), action researchers can delineate their work on several action
research models and communicates that The difficulty with any definition of action research is that
the term can be utilized to consolidate many activities which have the completion of research and

32. The Pros And Cons Of Health Care
As the health care crisis in the United States continues to evolve there needs to be federal
involvement in reform for access to health care and the health care system. Reform must be
initiated in the private sector of the health care system as well as the federally ran portion of health
care in the United States. Citizens of the United States are fond of our particular representation and
limited government intervention in our lives. Furthermore, the federal government does not have
constitutional authority to initiate any type of healthcare reform. This issue of health care was
regulated to the states by the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution since there are no provisions in
the Constitution regarding health care. Another important issue is health care a right or a privilege.
Is health care a right or a privilege is a simple question, but difficult to answer. The question is not
so much an economic question, as many people claim, but a moral issue.1
The United States has world class medical facilities and some of the finest doctors in the world.
The United States also spends a higher proportion of its Gross Domestic Product on health care
than any other nation is the world, but only ranks 37 out of 191 countries.2 Uneven access to

33. The Use of Bandura s Social Learning Theory in Schools Essay
One of the central tenants of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory, which is also called
Social Cognitive Theory, is that aggression in children is influenced by the reinforcement of
family members, the media, and the environment (Bandura, 1975, pp. 206 208). Evans (1989)
suggested that the basis for Bandura s theories came from work completed by researchers Miller
and Dollard (1941) who suggested that human development is actively influenced by response
consequences (Evans, 1989, p. 4), but regardless of the impetus for Bandura s work, he is most
known for his work regarding aggressionin children. This paper will focus on why the principles of

Therefore, from a human developmental perspective, the self efficacy characteristic can aid
students in comprehending the link between current behavior and future consequences (Evans,
1989). Bandura also noted that there were four distinct processes that influence a child s behavior
attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation. During the attention phase, a child will
observe behaviors conducted around them and if this attention is thorough enough, the child will
absorb the reactions and reasons for the aggressive behavior modeled. Bandura believed that the
second stage, retention, is also vitally important because it is this re enactment that causes the
behavior to be transferred to the long term memory of the child. Of course, even if the child has
memorized the actions, they still need to have the physical attributes necessary to reproduce an
action they have seen, but there is little physical dexterity needed to hit or punch something (Isom,
1998). The final phase of this process is the motivation for the behavior. In Bandura s experiment
the children observed an adult praised for behaving badly, and this is enough, under Bandura s
theory, to cement those actions into a repeatable response by the child at a later stage. Bandura
believes this theory also supports the rise in the number of aggressive teens in high crime areas
(Isom, 1998). It is this correlation between

34. Racism And Mccarthyism In Orson Welles s Touch Of Evil
Orson Welles 1958 film, Touch of Evil, focuses in on some societal issues that were present
during the time period of the mid to late 1950s, and uses its narrative and distinct visual style to
get the point across. Some of these themes featured in the film include racism, McCarthyism,
drug usage in border towns, and legal hierarchies. This is done particularly with its use of
borders as a metaphor for all the activity going on in the film. The film begins with a long,
tracking shot after a bomb is placed inside a car. We follow the car and see a couple walking
down the street together. Because of this choice of shot, we are offered two vital introductions
in one: We are introduced to both the inciting incident, as well as two of the main characters. As
soon as the two main characters, Susie and Mike Vargas, make their way to the Mexican border,
we are introduced to one of the many themes that will be prevalent in the film, and that is racism.
Although the border patrolmen do not seem at all phased by the sight of an interracial couple,
the cue that guides the audience to notice the undertones of racial prejudice, come in the mise en
scene. Immediately after Mike kisses his wife, the bomb goes off just several feet away from
them, using the inciting incident also as a tool to say that the general public will not agree with a
white woman being married to a Latino man. Now it is possible that I may be getting ahead of

Abstract:
The purpose of the present research work was to design, formulate and evaluate the floating
tablets of Stavudine, a gastro retentive drug delivery system. Direct compression was used to
prepare the tablets using HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M and Carbopol 974(p) as polymers.
Formulations were prepared by varying the amount of polymers. The compatibility of drug with the
polymers is identified by using FTIR studies. Gastric floating of Stavudine tablets results from
effervescence produced by the reaction between sodium bicarbonate and hydrochloric acid in
stomach. Twelve formulations of floating tablets were prepared using direct compression technique
with polymer such as carbopol974 (p), HPMC grades, Xanthum gum, Guar gum, chitosan in
different ratios. The evaluation results revealed that all formulations comply with the specification
of official pharmacopoeias and/or standard reference with respect to general appearance, content
uniformity, hardness, friability and buoyancy. Out of all the formulation developed, formulation
F8 containing of Carbopol showed in vitro drug release of 97.8% upto desired time period of i.e.,
24 hours. Thus it is summarized; carbopol grades can be used in formulation of gastro retentive

Self government is the cornerstone of the Inuit policy goals in the Nunavut region; while self
government is an important goal, the idea is intricately linked to other goals such as land claims
settlements, cultural preservation, and economic development, goals which the people of Nunavut
are finding very hard to meet (Nowland Card, 41). Indigenous people were self governed long
before Europeans arrived in Canada, but in 1876, the Indian Act came into effect, dismantling
traditional governance systems and Indigenous peopleslives (Bc Treaty Commission). Today, the
Federal government recognizes that Indigenous people have an inherent, constitutionally protected

But the model of self government offered by the Canadian government leaves the people of
Nunavut financially at the mercy of the Government and thus is impractical and doomed to fail.
The Government still owns a huge amount of the land and makes the final decisions on important
issues. There is still no sovereignty for Indigenous people as their lives are still partly dictated by
the Federal Government. Their lack of any revenue source leads to heavy reliance on the Federal
Government making this method highly unsustainable. Thus, the Indigenous people surrendered
their rights for a failed cause, but one that could potentially see a revival. With the recent devolution
plans in Canada between the Federal Government, the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut
Tunngavik Incorporated, the company in charge of setting out the process of the transfer of land
from the Crown to the Nunavut Government, there is hope for the revival of Nunavut (Devolution
Nunavut). Devolution is important because it brings decision making closer to home, giving

will be made in Nunavut and not in Ottawa giving the Northerners greater autonomy over their

William Shakespeare s Relevance Today
For as long as formal education has existed in Britain it has been a largely standard assumption
that teaching the works of William Shakespeare is relevant and necessary. Perhaps the relevance
of his writing is taken for granted, perhaps it is necessary to re examine the role of Shakespeare
for the modern audience. There are indeed many people who question the relevance of this 440
year old playwright to a 21st century audience, taking it even as far as perhaps the greatest heresy
of all, questioning the necessity of GCSE pupils learning Shakespeare at all. This proposed

Each play of Shakespeare is the development of a metaphor or group of metaphors. There is a
matrix out of which feeling finds words, emotions take shape and voices become characters. That

(Rehder 1980 p56)
However simply because the theme is, arguably, not reliant on the context or overall setting, and
that this theme is relayed by metaphor and not in descriptive prose, is not perhaps justified cause
to say that the theme itself will necessarily be relevant; or indeed that the metaphorical vehicle by
which it is conveyed will be relevant or appreciable either. For example one of the more central
themes of King Lear, as with all the tragedies, is death. Death as a theme can be said to have
starkly contrasting meaning and therefore perhaps relevance for a modern audience as compared to
a Shakespearean one. Today death is a rare and terrible tragedy of momentous importance in the life
of an individual, in 16th century England with its plagues, starvation, infant mortality and state

Do you believe we could ever be fully prepared for all natural disasters to avoid the meltdown that
occurred at the Fukushima nuclear power plant? Why or why not?
As history has depicted Emergency preparedness is not full proof, even with the best technology. It
is impossible to predict the magnitude, timing and the aftermath of all natural disasters. However,
the leaders of the nuclear plant such as the Fukushima nuclear plant must be cognizant, of the
importance of emergency preparedness through simulation of different possible scenarios, it seems
the company was overconfident in their ability to keep their nuclear materials contained within the
their designated areas. Sadly, such assumptions resulted in one of the worst disasters in Japan s
history. Prior to the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, the executives were warned about the
inadequacy of the wall built to prevent water from spilling from the ocean onto the complex. Most
scientists had feared that the barrier protecting the nuclear complex was not strong enough to
endure huge waves in the event of a strong Tsunami, and their fears came to light on March 11,
2011.
Overall, one cannot be fully prepared for a disaster such the Fukushima nuclear meltdown because
there is always the slim chance that nature may through a curve ball, but efforts must be made by
establishments to make sure all possible scenarios are addressed in emergency preparedness
protocol.

42. Test Taking Strategies
Test Taking Strategies
For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new ones to help
students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the anxiety, stress, lack of time,
and just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life. The last couple of years I have learned to
incorporate strategies that work best for me, but there is always room for improvement and
strengthening. Learning, study and test taking skills are some of the most important things to have
when furthering your education. Upon reading Strategies for Test Success by Linda Anne Silvestri,
I was able to scrutinize some of my weaknesses, reevaluate my learning style, and look at some
new test taking strategies while assessing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using this strategy instead of trying to memorize text out of a book, one should have to spend
less time studying and more information should be retained. (Kaplan Nursing: Lipponcott)
Test Strategies Not so Helpful
There are so many strategy recommendations for students. While each have good points, some are
more helpful than others. Strategies that don t seem as helpful to me are simulating actual test like
circumstances when studying for the exam, study groups, note taking by using the fancy systems.
These three strategies just seem to increase my stress level to the point I feel like I am not learning.
Simulating actual test like circumstances has just never worked for me as I usually don t pick
the correct information to test myself on and the important information gets left behind. Study
groups cause me too much pressure because I find that one or two people seem to be putting the
study guides together. This is a pet peeve for me; I don t mind sharing my ideas but don t expect
me to do all the work and then hand it to you. The final one that has never worked for me is
taking notes by using one of the many note taking systems. I find myself spending too much time
trying to remember what needs to be written where, organizing, how to fold the paper. I have
developed my own crazy way of taking notes over the years. Note taking is an area that I feel is
individualize for each

43. An Unquiet Mind Reflection
Reflection of the Book An Unquiet Mind In her book, An Unquiet Mind, Kay Jamison instills
an understanding of bipolar disorder from two opposing perspectives. Initially, Jameson tells a
tale of herself as a long term victim of bipolar. It is from her description that a reader is
highlighted about the various avenues through which the condition attacks. Besides exploring
the disorder as the victim, the book as well depicts Jamison as the healed. That is, she gives an
account of her life as an individual who survived the grips of bipolar disorder and became a
healer (psychotherapist and a lecturer) instead. Reflecting on Jamison s work An Unquiet Mind
automatically triggers the desire of the reader to unearth more about the author, her context, and
diagnosis of the bipolar disorder. The Enjoyable Aspect It is impossible not to enjoy An Unquiet
Mind based on how it explores the topics that people suffering from bipolar disorder tend not to
touch. That is, Jamison employs the writing to tell people about her life as a victim of a mental
health condition that is characterized by stigma everywhere. In depicting such an account, the
author explores the actual nature of the disease, how it affects its victims, and how victims can
fight it. Basically, the storyline gives a lifeline to people who suffer from bipolar disorder, and
who have lost hope in achieving their dreams in life. The most fulfilling aspect of the reading
features the fact that the author is able to identify a problem and at the same time offer a
practical solution to the problem from a personal perspective, something that is rare to come by
in real life medical practicing. Simply put, it is enjoyable to read Jamison s An Unquiet Mind.
Diagnoses The reading offers lessons about the diagnosis of bipolar disorder primarily. To a
reader, placing emphasis on Jamison s diagnosis can lead to answers about curing the condition,
which is the goal of any interested individual. It is worth noting that Jamison was diagnosed with
bipolar II disorder. Such an assertion follows her own revelation that she suffered from the
condition often, and in a long periodic duration while growing up (Jamison, 1995). Further, bipolar
II disorder is characterized by instances

44. Identifying The Perceived Destination Image Of New Zealand
Conclusion
The focus of this study was to identify the perceived destination image of New Zealand as revealed
in the travel blogs by Chinese tourists who have already visited the country. The approach used here
differs from the traditional types of methodology such as interviews and questionnaires, but instead
this study adopted a content analysis approach. A thorough literature review was first conducted at
the beginning of this study in attempt to understand what information is already established in
regards to destination image and what is important to Chinese tourists when they are planning their
travels and during their travels. The literature review identified a few attributes which are important
to Chinese tourists when they are travelling.
Literature Review
Through the literature review an academic article written by Law and Cheung (2010) which
examines how Mainland Chinese tourists perceived the destination of Hong Kong was reviewed.

45. Alexander Pope and Christianity
C.M.
The Influence of Christianity in Essay on Man Alexander Pope is an eighteenth century writer
who spent most of his life suffering. He had a rare form of tuberculosis which left him in
constant pain. As a result of this disease, he never grew very tall. He was only about four and a
half feet tall and he also experienced migraines (Greenblatt 2714). Despite all of Pope s
impediments, he managed to write Essay on Man which portrays an extremely optimistic outlook
on life. Although Pope says that he avoids all specifically Christian doctrines, it is doubtful that he
would have this same optimistic outlook without his Christian upbringing (2714). Even though
Pope s Essay on Man is universal, applying to Christian and ... Show more content on

Also, in Romans 3:23, it says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans
3:23). Both of these quote are affirming that all men sin which therefore means they are
imperfect. In Section 4 of Epistle 1 of Essay on Man, it talks about how man is ignorant of the
future which therefore allows him to be hopeful. In line 85 it states, O blindness to the future!
Kindly given (2716.1.85). Not knowing what our future holds allows us to instill our faith in
God. Even though we do not know what the future holds for us, God does. Since God knows our
future, we put our faith in him that if we live correctly, everything will turn out just how it is
supposed to be which is hopefully exactly how we want it to be. Jeremiah 29:11 declares, For I
know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil,
to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). God tells us his plans for us are good. We trust
and believe in him so we trust and believe our futures are filled with greatness. Pride is a sin and
brings humans misery in both Essay on Man and The Bible. In Essay on Man, Pope writes, In pride,
in reasoning pride, our error lies (2717.1.123). Being prideful is a fault that humans possess. Man
is always trying to gain more knowledge and try to reach perfection. Perfection cannot be achieved
so this pride actually
