Please read Chapters 12and 13 and look carefully at the illustrations. Please note that there was a significant difference between the art of Northern Europe and Southern Europe during this time. The term Renaissance means a renewal or a rebirth--in this context of the styles and ideas of the Greek and Roman (Classical) past. While both areas continued to use Christian themes, the style, or the manner in which the images are put together and presented to the viewer, differed substantially from North to South. The North continued to be quite medieval or Gothic in styles, while the South (chiefly Italy), relied heavily on its Classical (Greek and Roman) past. During this period, you will see that the human figure, especially the nude, in an echo of the Classical past, appears again in Italy. The North will come to admire and to use the nude only with Albrecht Duerer, a major German artist of the late-fifteenth and early-sixteenth centuries. He will be the first Northern artist to participate in the developing humanist and classical interests of Italy. It is with this artist that the North enters into the "spirit" and the subject matter of the Italian form of the Renaissance.

Read Chapters 15-17 and look carefully at the illustrations. In this section of the text, you will become acquainted with art of the Americas and Africa and the Neo-Classical, Romantic and Realist styles of late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth-century European works. The pace of stylistic change will begin to keep up with the faster pace of life. Here you will look at the remnants of the Classical world in the Neo-Classical (or new classical) examples, which are sometime pitted against the more intuitive, less doctrinaire works of the Romantic artists. Here, too, you will begin to look at the American works, drawn from European ideas and styles, but adapted for a new country and a new need for art. Please read Chapters 12and 13 and look carefully at the illustrations. Please note that there was a significant difference between the art of Northern Europe and Southern Europe during this time. The term Renaissance means a renewal or a rebirth--in this context of the styles and ideas of the Greek and Roman (Classical) past. While both areas continued to use Christian themes, the style, or the manner in which the images are put together and presented to the viewer, differed substantially from North to South. The North continued to be quite medieval or Gothic in styles, while the South (chiefly Italy), relied heavily on its Classical (Greek and Roman) past. During this period, you will see that the human figure, especially the nude, in an echo of the Classical past, appears again in Italy. The North will come to admire and to use the nude only with Albrecht Duerer, a major German artist of the late-fifteenth and early-sixteenth centuries. He will be the first Northern artist to participate in the developing humanist and classical interests of Italy. It is with this artist that the North enters into the "spirit" and the subject matter of the Italian form of the Renaissance.

Students are then asked to submit ONLINE, by SUNDAY 3 MARCH, a written GALLERY REVIEW on their visit (2,000 – 3,000 words.), in which they:
- Briefly outline the main features of their chosen exhibiting space;
- Choose and discuss at least FIVE art pieces, providing a short art-historical analysis, a relevant bibliography and set of illustrations for each of them;
- Briefly consider the interaction between Western and non-Western art.

Your report should reflect both the academic research behind the curating of your chosen space (how well is it curated, in your opinion?) and your own personal ideas (it should be a mixture of both).

The Renaissance spanned roughly 3 centuries: 14th -16th
1300s – 1500s
Petrarch, the great Renaissance humanist – Italian poet and scholar of the fourteenth-century, looked back at the preceding thousand years and saw only “dark ages” extending from the collapse of the Roman Empire to his own time.
In Petrarch’s view history fell into three periods:
ANCIENT CLASSICAL WORLD MIDDLE AGES RENAISSANCE
Petrarch and other humanists of his time (scholars) admired Classical world as a time of the highest achievements of human spirit. The Italians were very proud of their own time, which they believed was a revival of classical culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
As for the thousand years that separated these two distinguished periods, the Italian humanists called them Dark Ages that had been marked by a decline of culture - a mere break in the history of human civilization.

Please read Chapters 12and 13 and look carefully at the illustrations. Please note that there was a significant difference between the art of Northern Europe and Southern Europe during this time. The term Renaissance means a renewal or a rebirth--in this context of the styles and ideas of the Greek and Roman (Classical) past. While both areas continued to use Christian themes, the style, or the manner in which the images are put together and presented to the viewer, differed substantially from North to South. The North continued to be quite medieval or Gothic in styles, while the South (chiefly Italy), relied heavily on its Classical (Greek and Roman) past. During this period, you will see that the human figure, especially the nude, in an echo of the Classical past, appears again in Italy. The North will come to admire and to use the nude only with Albrecht Duerer, a major German artist of the late-fifteenth and early-sixteenth centuries. He will be the first Northern artist to participate in the developing humanist and classical interests of Italy. It is with this artist that the North enters into the "spirit" and the subject matter of the Italian form of the Renaissance.

Read Chapters 15-17 and look carefully at the illustrations. In this section of the text, you will become acquainted with art of the Americas and Africa and the Neo-Classical, Romantic and Realist styles of late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth-century European works. The pace of stylistic change will begin to keep up with the faster pace of life. Here you will look at the remnants of the Classical world in the Neo-Classical (or new classical) examples, which are sometime pitted against the more intuitive, less doctrinaire works of the Romantic artists. Here, too, you will begin to look at the American works, drawn from European ideas and styles, but adapted for a new country and a new need for art. Sometimes the styles or labels of the categories of art will become blurred, making absolutes difficult to determine. I am sure that, by now, you will say, "But all periods are divergent; all periods have variants which make labels and categories uncertain." And, you will be correct. This session will take place without the instructor. Students are required to visit the Jameel Gallery AND the South Asian Gallery (on Islamic art and Mughal objects) at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Students are then asked to submit ONLINE, by SUNDAY 3 MARCH, a written GALLERY REVIEW on their visit (2,000 – 3,000 words.), in which they:
- Briefly outline the main features of their chosen exhibiting space;
- Choose and discuss at least FIVE art pieces, providing a short art-historical analysis, a relevant bibliography and set of illustrations for each of them;
- Briefly consider the interaction between Western and non-Western art.
Make sure you describe all your chosen objects in a way that is meaningful and art-historically relevant (facts and dates).
Your report should reflect both the academic research behind the curating of your chosen space (how well is it curated, in your opinion?) and your own personal ideas (it should be a mixture of both).

The Renaissance spanned roughly 3 centuries: 14th -16th
1300s – 1500s
Petrarch, the great Renaissance humanist – Italian poet and scholar of the fourteenth-century, looked back at the preceding thousand years and saw only “dark ages” extending from the collapse of the Roman Empire to his own time.
In Petrarch’s view history fell into three periods:
ANCIENT CLASSICAL WORLD MIDDLE AGES RENAISSANCE
Petrarch and other humanists of his time (scholars) admired Classical world as a time of the highest achievements of human spirit. The Italians were very proud of their own time, which they believed was a revival of classical culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
As for the thousand years that separated these two distinguished periods, the Italian humanists called them Dark Ages that had been marked by a decline of culture - a mere break in the history of human civilization.

provide a number of examples of disagreements between the authors we discuss this semester. Your
paper will have the following components
1. Hone the disagreement
• I want you to start by taking my general statement of disagreement and providing your own clear specifics
that focus on particular claims or passages. Here you are taking my starting point, but providing your
own framing of the disagreement that will provide focus for your paper.
• You will hone your statement of the disagreement in a way that sets things up for the next parts of the
paper.
• For example:
– In number 2 below, you will identify a specific critique of Rawls from either Kittay or Noddings.
You need to explain where the disagreement is and set the stage for a fruitful dialogue to follow in
the paper.
• This part of the paper should be focused. You should discuss the two views in a way that sets the stage

(2018) undertook a study that sought to examine the mechanism of resilience in Indonesian people living with HIV/AIDS and the factors that influence their specific mechanisms.
Using qualitative phenomenological design, the researchers sampled a total of 27 people living with HIV/AIDS from a primary health care institution in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia. The participants were selected from different socioeconomic, gender, and sexual orientations. The researchers informed participants about the conduct and processes involved in the study, resulting in their consent to participate in the interview process. The findings of the study indicated that the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS reflects the onset of psychological and social distress. Moreover, Kumbomoyo et al. (2018) found that the spiritual response that follows diagnosis is a state that is characterized by crises. As a consequence, the coping strategies and understanding of life by HIV patients is a definite sign on resilience. Based on these findings, Kumbomoyo et al. (2018) infer that HIV/AIDS is a chronic infection that has the potential to induce the unique .

JOHN JARVEY, Magistrate Judge
This matter comes before the court pursuant to trial on the merits which commenced on January 23, 2006. The above-described parties have consented to jurisdiction before a United States Magistrate Judge pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 636(c). The court finds in favor of the plaintiff and awards compensatory damages in the amount of $3,800,000 and punitive damages in the amount of $7,600,000.
In this case, the plaintiff brings numerous theories of recovery against defendant Jerry Drizin arising out of the misappropriation of escrow funds that were to serve as security for financing for the construction of an ethanol plant in Manchester, Iowa. The plaintiff contends that defendant Drizin, in concert with others, knowingly converted funds from an escrow account that were not to have been spent on anything without the plaintiff's prior written permission. Defendant Drizin contends that his only client and only duty of loyalty was to a Nigerian citizen living in Munich who caused the funds to be sent to bank accounts controlled by Defendant Drizin. The court makes the following findings of fact and conclusions of law.
In 2000 in Manchester, Iowa, farmer and President of the local Co-op, Douglas Bishop, began meeting with representatives of the United States Department of Agriculture to explore the feasibility of building an ethanol plant in the Manchester area. The idea was to assist farmers in the area in getting more value for their crops. An ethanol plant produces ethanol and feed grain which can be sold at a profit exceeding that associated with the mere sale of grain.
A series of 40 local meetings culminated in a membership drive. The Plaintiff, Northeast Iowa Ethanol, L.L.C., was later formed in order to sell 2500 shares of stock in the L.L.C. to raise funds for the financing of the plant. The construction of the plant was expected to cost $21 Million. It would have a capacity for producing 15 million gallons of ethanol per year. Through the meetings, Mr. Bishop and others raised $2,365,000. The average investor purchased two shares.
The membership drive ended in September 2001. The original plan was to begin construction in the fall of 2001 and have the plant operating by the fall of 2002. However, the issue of financing for the plant was more problematic than plaintiff had anticipated. Traditional lenders (banks) demanded that the plaintiff raise forty percent of the construction costs. It was clear that the plaintiff could not raise $8 Million. Plaintiff's proposed marketing partner, Williams Ethanol Services, agreed to invest $1 Million in the project.
