Paraphrasing the ideas of others is a requirement in academic writing and graduate study. Paraphrasing is using your own words to restate ideas or information from a source material. Paraphrasing will help you grasp the full meaning of the source material and allow you to appropriately reference the source material to support your own ideas and academic writing. Paraphrased material is usually shorter and more concise than the original information. The following are some common guidelines taken from the Purdue Online Writing Lab (2012), which may assist you with learning to paraphrase information gathered from reading materials for use in completing your coursework.
Reread the original passage until you understand its full meaning.
Set the original passage aside and, on a note card, write what you think the passage means in your own words (paraphrase).

Writing effective internal company memos is an acquired skill that frequently distinguishes the great manager inside a company. Senior executives usually take notice of lower level managers who precisely communicate issues in written form.
The key to effective internal memos is that they communicate much in a small amount of space. A cardinal rule of great memo writing is this: All important information must appear on the first page.
The following provides one way to organize an internal memo. This format is particularly applicable towards a memo that communicates the results of some project or investigation that has been assigned to the writer.

In most analytical memos, your tone should be unemotional and objective. Avoid putting your conclusions or key points in this section--those things go in the next section.
Summary
This is where you place your key points for a busy executive that only has three minutes to read it. Key points are usually best communicated by listing them in “bullets” as single sentences, avoiding lengthy and wordy paragraphs. Your key points must all fit on the first page.
In an analytical memo your key points might consist of:
· Major strengths or weaknesses that you'd like to highlight.
· Opportunities for improvement.
· At least one recommendation for action.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss the
generational gaps that are found in the workplace
today. With multiple generations working together,
and the oldest generation having to work longer and
retire later, generational changes are occurring in the
workplace and for management. There is a lack of
communication and understanding between the
different generations caused through differing values
and goals. Younger generations are also entering
different fields than those that were popular for older
generations. There is a serious new problem in the
workplace, and it has nothing to do with downsizing,
global competition, pointy-haired bosses, stress or
greed. Instead, it is the problem of distinct
generations — the Veterans, the Baby Boomers, Gen
X and Gen Y — working together and often colliding
as their paths cross.
Individuals with different values, different ideas,
different ways of getting things done and different
ways of communicating in the workplace have always
existed. So, why is this becoming a problem now? At
work, generation differences can affect everything
including recruiting, building teams, dealing with
change, motivating, managing, and maintaining and
increasing productivity All of these ideas are
explored, discussed, and evaluated, through looking
at current research on the topic and case studies that
have been conducted not only in the United States but
around the world.

both grow and age, it has caused generational changes to
take place in the various aspects of life. With the changes in

Successful brands possess two characteristics. Top-of-mind are brands a consumer mentions first when asked about brands in a particular product category – these are brands in our Evoked Set. Top choice is the brand within a product category that consumers prefer the most. So top choice requires top-of-mind. Brand equity, which is the level of brand strength perceived by consumers, leads to top-of-mind and top choice brands.
This is also applicable on the B2B side when business people are faced with modified rebuy situations. A common dilemma I had was for every Fox Graduation Ceremony, there are three per year, and the need for graduation program booklets. There was a printer who I always wanted to hire because I enjoyed working with them, they always had fair prices and delivered high-quality programs in a timely manner. However, due to non-profit regulations, I had to bid the job to at least three vendors. So my top-of-mind, first choice brand was always included but I had to add two other vendors as well. Abstract
The focus o f Adlerian therapy is to help individuals discover their resources and
strengths, and to help them to be more encouraged in reaching their goals in a more
functioning way. Recently, the positive psychology movement has become the ma
jo r focus for researchers and mental health providers. Adlerian theory and ensuing
humanistic approaches have been considered as the basis of positive psychology.
Positive psychology— like Adlerian theory— calls for looking at individual strengths,
virtues, and areas of well-being. This article describes an Adlerian-based group coun
seling program which integrated positive psychology interventions with youth in a
residential treatment center. This article describes how Adlerian theory aligns with
the positive psychology interventions, along w ith recommendations for practitioners.

There has been an increasing interest in focusing on strengths, solutions,
resilience, and thriving of individuals even after traumatic experiences.
Alfred Adler has been considered as the forefather of such strength-based
approaches (Erguner-Tekinalp, 2016; Carlson, Watts, & Maniacci, 2006).
Within the last two decades, an interest has grown in studies and interven
tions examining human strengths, virtues, and well-being with the increas
ing popularity of the positive psychology movement (Seligman, Steen, Park,
& Peterson, 2005). Positive psychology is defined as the scientific study of
optimal human functioning (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000). The goal
of this alternative movement is to understand well-being rather than dis
order, and not only how people recover or cope but also how individuals
and communities thrive and flourish (Seligman, 2011). An effort has been
made to change the focus of mental health professionals from focusing on
what has been harmful in problematic and traumatic events to how individu
als cope with, develop resilient capacities for, and even in some cases thrive
through these negative experiences. The focus is more on what goes well
with individuals rather than what goes wrong (Carlson, Watts, & Maniacci,
2006). This approach to helping is more complete as it identifies not only

After completing the assessment, my Signature Theme Report produced the following results: Communication, Relator, Individualization, Consistency, and Strategic. When I first saw the themes presented, I was a little skeptical at first but after reading the detailed descriptions I felt like it made a lot of sense and mirrored a lot of what I had already thought about myself.
A core value that I would like to continue to strengthen would be the value of acceptance. One of my top five themes was relator which explained that I have a comfortability with gravitating towards people I already know and building relationships from there. I don’t have issues with making new relationships, but I can see that sometimes I close myself off initially to embracing new ones. With acceptance, you have to understand that there are some situations you can control and some that you can’t but embracing the latter can lead to new experiences that could be beneficial (Riley, 2021). Another core value that I would like to improve upon would be calmness. This fits in well with my theme of consistency. While I am a firm believer of things being fair and consistent, I can get easily upset when things don’t balance out like they are expected to. I know that working on being calm in tense situations will help me adapt easier when things don’t always work out as they should.
One of the strengths that I would like to embrace fully and continue to improve upon is communication. It was no surprise to me that communication was at the top of my list for my themes. When I am in a position of leadership at work, I make it a priority to keep my staff updated on everything that is going on for that night and it is something I expect from my charge nurse when I am working the floor also. A communicator is only effective when they are aware of their style of communicating and how others perceive or respond to it (Marshall & Broome, 2021). As a communicator I know that I can always work on how I communicate non-verbally and with body language especially. The other strength that I would like to continue to work on is of being strategic. The report explained that the strategic theme fit me because I am able to sort through the clutter and find the best route when I am trying to accomplish something. I really believe this about myself because when I have a task I need to accomplish, whether I am in a leader position or not, I will break everything down and reorganize it to make sure I have come up with the best solution. I feel like the best way to do something is the way that makes it concise and without a lot of excess getting in the way.
A characteristic of mine that I would like to strengthen would be that of instinct. My theme of individualization points out that I have an instinct about others and how they work and function. I have always felt that I easily read people and can get a sense of who they truly are and for example in the workplace how they are as a staff member. S.

NARRATOR: Advocacy and change are closely intertwined. In this video
program, Dr. Judy Lewis defines advocacy and explains the roles of counselors
advocating for change. Dr. Lewis also describes barriers counselors may face as
they advocate for change, and how to overcome these barriers.
DR. JUDY LEWIS: At its most basic, advocacy is simply the act of speaking up
on behalf of someone else-- maybe speaking up for someone who is voiceless or
powerless.
When it comes to the counseling profession, advocacy is particularly important
for two reasons. One is that part of our process of working with clients is to help
them gain the strength and the skills so they can advocate on their own behalf.
The other part of it is that once we realize that the client might not have the
power to be able to speak up on his or her own behalf, sometimes we may have
to be the ones that speak up on behalf of the clients.
This happens especially when we see a lot of different clients all having similar
problems, and we realize that there is a systemic reason for it. There is
something in the community environment that is standing between these clients
and what they need.
So as counselors, when we're oriented toward advocacy, what we are doing is
changing the lens through which we see the client. Instead of looking through a
microscope at the individual client, we're looking through a wide-angle lens. So
that we're seeing the context of what's happening in the client's life.
When counselors carry out advocacy, they do this at several different levels. One
level is the level of working with the individual client or family. When you're
working with an individual client, you have two alternatives. One is to work in an
empowering way with the individual so that he or she learns to advocate for
himself or herself.
The other possibility-- when that doesn't provide all the answers-- the other
possibility is to do advocacy on behalf of that individual. When we're working with
the clients in an empowering way, what we're helping them see is the degree to
which some of the problems that they're having may not be totally their fault.
When people start feeling as though they're so much at fault, sometimes they just
get stuck and can't seem to move beyond their current situation. If they can begin
to see for themselves what some of the barriers are that are preventing them
from getting to where they want to go, and where sometimes they're not

completely at fault-- they're not completely guilty-- we can start to teach them
some of the skills that they need. So they can speak up on their own behalf and

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Aim for a 5-paragraph essay structure (introduction with thesis, three or more body paragraphs, and a conclusion). The word count does not include the Works Cited page or formatting. - 2. The purpose of this outline is to help you and your partner organize your thoughts and ideas into a single, structured outline and speech. It will help you arrange and format your main points and sub-points so that your speech is clear to your audience. Your Informative, Partner Speech Outline is worth 50 points. You and your partner will receive one grade for the outline. Your outline should be typed, double-spaced, 12 point font, and follow Small Section directions. Ideally, you will have 4 main points (2 each); however, you can have a minimum of 3 main points and a maximum of 5 main points. It should be written in APA format and have a minimum of 8 references; those references should be typed and listed on a separate page. Be sure to print and attach the Informative Speech Outline Grade Sheet to the front of your outline on its due date. Do not forget to submit your outline to turnitin.com through your Small Section BlackBoard site. Your outline should follow the format on the following pages; it should be clean and easy to read/follow. I will grade your outline for both content and format. I will grade what you say, how you organize what you say, and your grammar, spelling, and punctuation (G/S/P). I will grade how you use evidence and implement it into the outline. I will also grade how closely you follow proper outline format and subordination. (Do your main points align? Are your sub-points consistent?) I will review that all 8 references are listed in-text as well as on the reference page. It is a full sentence outline so that I can read what you will present to the class on your speech day. For this assignment, it is required that you pick a culture that is unique and different than your own culture. You will turn in 1 outline for you and your partner and will receive one grade for that outline. A list of References must be turned in with the outline in APA format. You will submit your outline to turnitin.com through your Small Section BlackBoard site. The outline is worth 50 points, and the speech is worth 100 points. You will be graded separately for the delivery of your speech (60 points) but will receive the same grade for the content and presentation aids of your speech (40 points). It is an 8-9 minute speech, so each group member should speak an equal section (2 main points each) or equal amount of time (about 4-5 minutes). This assignment asks you to explore the importance and effects of intercultural communication in our world today in the format of a two-person (partner), informative speech. Incorporating concepts from the textbook (Informative Speaking, Chapter 14 & Culture, Chapter 2) and class discussion about informative speaking and intercultural communication, you and a partner will inform the audience about a mutually agreed upon topic regarding a culture or a co-culture. The idea of informing the class about a culture, or co-culture, is a big project. You will have to narrow your topic since you only have 8-9 minutes to present. In that time frame, you cannot tell us everything about the Italian culture (for example), so you will have to pick a few aspects of the Italian culture (architecture, customs, rituals, government, education system, ways of life, art, etc.). The purpose of this speech is to educate and inform the class about a culture/co-culture and not to judge/evaluate this culture/co-culture. Have fun with the assignment; it is a great learning opportunity. You and your partner will define, describe, and/or explain a culture/co-culture

- 9. MY SPEECH DATE: INFORMATIVE SPEECH Time Limit: 8:00 - 9:00 minutes Total Possible Points: 100 Purpose: 1. The goal of this speech is to partner with another student and choose an intercultural topic. Think of this as an informative speech where you and your partner will define/describe/explain another culture, or co-culture, in a detailed format. 2. You will select a topic you are knowledgeable and passionate about. The goal is to increase the audience’s knowledge or understanding of a culture/co-culture, so you should consider the best way to achieve your goal. You are essentially teaching a classroom-style 8-9 minute crash-course, or providing a training, on the culture/co-culture of your choice. You must have between 3-5 main points. General Information: 1. Things to consider when selecting a topic: · Choose a culture/co-culture other than your own or that of your partner. · Pick a culture/co-culture you are passionate about! This will help you be successful in delivering your speech. · Select main points that are appropriate given the length of the speech. · The topic should be sensitive to the demographics of the audience based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, age, sex, etc. 2. Your topic can be broken up in a variety of ways. For
- 10. example, if you decided you are passionate about The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, your speech could be about 3 separate features on The Running of the Bulls (topic), or it could be about how The Running of the Bulls originated and has evolved to its present form (chronological/time). 3. The use of 1 note card per speaker is allowed for this speech. Speech Requirements: 1. Within your speech, you must use examples and facts. 2. You must use at least 1 expert quotation and at least 1 statistic must be introduced with a verbal footnote. 3. Minimum of 8 references must be cited in the outline. The sources can be: websites, magazines, academic /science journals, books (online and paper/hard back), and newspapers. You cannot use Wikipedia or dictionary.com as 1 of your sources. 4. You must site your 4 of your references in the speech. You can do this by saying: “According to Fisher, ‘1 out of 3 people who…”. A list of your references will be turned in APA format with your outline. These are called verbal footnotes. 5. A presentation aid must be utilized at an appropriate time during the speech. A presentation aid may include graphs, pictures, props, models, charts, and/or objects. PowerPoint can be used, but it should be used sparingly. You can show a video, but it cannot be longer than 45 seconds. 6. You should dress professionally/appropriately. Your clothes should not distract from your presentation. 7. Obviously, I will grade the strength of your argument as well as how you deliver your speech.
