Analysis Of The Pathophysiological Framework Of Dilated...
Dilated Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is the deterioration of muscles within the heart which in
turn causes the heart to become thick, rigid or enlarged; this physiological change causes
decreased contractility and may lead to arrhythmias or heart failure (VanMeter and Hubert, 2013).
In the case study, the client is a seven year old girl from Chetwynd who is recently diagnosed with
dilated cardiomyopathy. When she was ten months old, she underwent a hearttransplant for her
hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a complex and rare heart
defect that is congenital, or present at birth, in which the left side of the heart is severely
underdeveloped. The left ventricle is not functional and therefore the left side... Show more content

The rapid degeneration of myocardial fibers and diffuse inflammation lead to ventricular dilation
and hypertrophy which cause atrial enlargement and stasis of blood in the left ventricle (Park,
2008). The enlargement of the remaining heart chambers is mainly due to left ventricular failure,
but it may also be secondary to the primary cardiomyopathic process. Dilated cardiomyopathy is
associated with both systolic and diastolic dysfunctions, with decreased systolic function being the
predominant abnormality (Parker, 2008). This dysfunction leads to decreased contractility and
general contractile dysfunction (Parker, 2008). Progressive dilation can lead to significant mitral
and tricuspid regurgitation, which may further decrease the cardiac output and increase end
systolic volumes and ventricular wall stress. In turn, this leads to further dilation and myocardial
dysfunction (Friedberg, 2008). Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of heart muscle
disease in pediatrics (Chow, Ateah, Scott, Ricci, Kyle, 2013). Dilated cardiomyopathy can be a
life threatening condition and can decrease life expectancy if severe damage occurs. Currently,
the five year survival rate for children diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy is between forty and
eighty percent. The survival rate decreases if they child is diagnosed at five years or older
(Friedberg, 2008).

Qualitative Research Questions
3.1 Case study: There are several research methodologies such as survey or questionnaires, case
studies, grounded theory and ethnography notably used in the field of social sciences, education,
arts and psychology. For this dissertation, research methodologies selected are qualitative research
methods by interviews and case studyapproach.
According to (Yin 2003) a case study allows investigators to focus on a case and retain a holistic
and real word perspective with (Simons 2009) adding that its primary purpose is to generate in
depth understanding of a specific topic. To put it differently, (Stake 1995) states a case study is
both a process of inquiry about the case and the product of that enquiry. The case study selected for

For this dissertation, a semi structured interview is conducted as (Galletta and Cross 2013)
suggested, a semi structured interview is sufficiently structured to address specific topics related to
the phenomenon of study, while leaving participants to offer new meanings to the study focus. The
interview questions are open ended to ensure more in depth response s from participants without
restriction. The interview comprises of 16 questions. The responses or answers received will be
analyzed and brought forward to answer the research questions as in chapter one. The interview
questions emerged from understanding the literature and formulation of the research questions.
This interview questions will be asked to subject matter experts working in medical device industry
irrespective of the size of the organization and to medical device consultants who are also subject
matter experts in quality regulations for medical device. The selection or recruitment of the
aforementioned is to ensure appropriate understanding of the subject and the validity of their
response during the interview which will subsequently influence the data

Healing Power Of Music Essay
The Healing Power Of Music Music has survived throughout the course of human history because
it has always been such a huge part of the human life. Music allows us to feel joy, sadness and
fear. It can bring us pleasure, express what we cannot express in words. In fact, no matter what
culture, race, or ethnicity you will find musicis always present and contains an important role in
society. Not only does music affect your mind but it effects our bodies as well. Music can aid in
recalling memories, affect our emotions and moods, and surprisingly enough, have various health
benefits. This paper will discuss how music can affect our mind, emotions, and our body but most
importantly its healing power. Music plays an important role in one s memory. We have two basics
types of memory Which are short and long term memory. Our brains seem to have been hard wired
to connect music with long term memory making it an essential tool in helping those with
Alzheimer s disease and related dementias. Alzheimer s disease is A progressive mental
deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is
the most common cause of premature senility. (https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts
/documents_info.php?documentID=100) When using music to aid in the treatment of said patients
the results are astounding and can even be seen in the very late stages of the disease. Music has the
ability to change the patient s mood, influence

Main advantage of combined therapy is to counteract the destructive effects of one drug by
reducing the metabolic effects that occur due to maximal dosage of single dosage form [7].
Bi layer tablets are novel drug delivery system in which two drugs are combined in a single
unit. They are advantageous due to the administration of two drugs in a single unit, counter the
physical and chemical incompatibilities, patient compliance as sustained release and immediate
release in the same dosage [8] . Method Validation is used to affirm the analytical method used for

discussed in the literature for determination of Famotidine and Flurbiprofen tablets like
spectrophotometric analysis [2], potentiometric [9], Electrochemical, Flow injection analysis FIA.
Among them, High performance liquid chromatography is precise, specific, rapid and simple.

Zoroastrian Beliefs
Zoroastrians do not worship fire as many thought. The Zoroastrians worship the elements as pure
Beings. They believed that fire represents Ahura Mazda s light or wisdom. They use many
ceremonies and practice a lot. The Zoroastrians did all this to gain and keep the favor of their God.
The Zoroastrian have a wonderfully diverse religion.
The Zoroastrians believed that fire represent their God s light and wisdom, Ahura Mazda also

For weddings both the bride and the groom wear white. Weddings come in two stages, The first
stage is where the bride and groom and their family or guardians sign a marriage contract. After
the contract then the celebrations and feasts begin, they usually last between three and seven
days. During the ceremony married female relatives hold a fine white scarf over the couple s
heads as well as two crystallized sugar cones that are rubbed together, to sweeten the couple s
life. The two parts of the scarf are sewn together to symbolise the couples lives being united.
Now on to the Funerals, Zoroastrians believe that when the last breath of a person is taken the
body then becomes impure. They believe that death is the work of the being that embodies all
evil in the world and the name of that being is Angra Mainyu. Since the dead body is considered
impure, it is also believed that if you contaminate the elements with decaying matter it is one of
the greatest crime in this religion. To avoid this they built structures called the towers of silence,
this is where the body would be placed open to the sun and to be eaten by birds. The Navjote is

The Mexican Cartel On A Global Scale
The Mexican Cartel on a Global scale
The Mexican drug cartel is a major actor on the world scene. Even though it is not seen this way
by the general public, those who pay attention know how far their reach is. The Mexican cartel
has expanded. There seems to be no sign of them slowing. They have the perfect storm of money,
military backing, political connections and Public intimidation. Their empire is growing by the
minute. Unfortunately most people have not given these ruthless criminals the attention they
deserve. They have direct impact on people around the world. This paper will explain various
aspects the groups and explain why more light needs to be shed on them To begin, one major point
to start with is there is more than one cartel. Fox news reports that there are somewhere between
sixty and eighty small and medium cartels. Business Insider lists seven major cartels. They go as
follows the Juarez cartel, The knights of Templar, The Gulf, the Tijuana Cartel
, The Beltran Leyva
Organization and the two most notorious the Los Zetas and the Sinaloa Cartel. The Los Zetas are
known for their cruelty. Murder, kidnapping, and torture are routine for them. They often use
these tactics to intimidate the public. The Sinaloa cartel, is known for its money and power. They
have monopolized drug trafficking in Chicago and the leader is so powerful he mysteriously
escaped prison. Each cartel is different however they all have the basic goal to gain monetary
assets. To expand, Los

World War I And The War II
World War II was a war that ended in much tragedy. There were over 60 million casualties.
Throughout World War II there was how it started, the Nazi Regime, and some of the major
battles. Much of the war was about the Germans bringing together a group of people called the
Nazis. They were under the rule of Adolf Hitler. There were two groups fighting against each
other: the Axis powers and the Allied powers. The Axis powers consisted of Japan, Italy, and
Germany. The Allied powers were Great Britain, France, and later on in the war, the United States.
After World War I, the Allied forced Germany to sign a peace treaty called the Treaty of Versailles.

there was two wars fought at the same time; the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre. Both
parts were broken down into four parts: the effect on Europe, early dominance period,
turnaround period, and the ending of the war (Jorge 1). After World War I all Munn 2 of the
European countries tried to become democratic countries, but failed to Communism. Most of
their governments were unstable, weak, and unresponsive. They also tried to start Capitalism,
but their economies were experiencing depression and extremely high inflation. The U.S did
nothing to help these struggling countries because they agreed to a policy of Isolationism (Jorge

wanted to take Poland. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. A few days later
Britain and France declared war on Germany. This marked the beginning of World War II (Woolf

What Is Frank Deford s Attitude Towards Pete Rose
Frank Deford willingly accepts Pete Rose as a hall of fame worthy player, however, by using
phrases like the only person the ban benefits is Pete himself and the best thing that ever

than ever. Deford s report on Rose clearly demonstrates his admiration of the player and helps to
shape the way the readers will view the person in question. Frank Deford establishes ethos as he
gives many examples to show that he is not completely biased. Deford s lack of bias is shown in
phrases like commissioners won t change their minds on Pete Rose... , where he mentions the

Power of Context Essay
The Power of Context Paper Most people would believe that we are shaped and defined by our
values and moral character. However, Malcolm Gladwell argues, in the chapter The Power of
Context, Bernie Goetz and the Rise and Fall of New York City Crime In other words, The
Power of Context is the social setting and or the environment around you and how it affects your
behavior. Anticipating resistance from the reader Gladwell uses rhetorical strategies such as real
life examples, controlled experiments and theories to help advance his claim and to help persuade
the reader to side with his argument. Gladwell carefully constructs his argument by offering the
real life story of Bernie Goetz. Gladwell uses this example in order to provide a... Show more

Minor, seemingly insignificant quality of life crimes, they said, were Tipping Points for violent
crime (292). These real life examples also helped Gladwell advance his claim that social context
can change the behavior of the larger population. Gladwell uses this example to help support his
claim by showing that unlike Bernie Goetz who was only one man, changing small things in our
environmental context can lead to a large systemic change in society. Gladwell strategically uses
the Zimbardo Prison Experiment, because this shows that with the two previous cases that the
possibility of the subject being a criminal was eliminated. This experiment shows that even
educated Stanford students in a monitored and controlled atmosphere are at the mercy of the social
context around them. In the Zimbardo six days in because of the effect it was having on the
prisoners. I realize now, one prisoner said after the experiment was over, that no matter how
together I thought I was in my head, my prison behavior was often less under my control than I
realized (296). This study shows that under a controlled atmosphere that educated Stanford students
are not greater than the social context around them. Unlike in the first two examples the Stanford
experiment was more inclusive and showed that anyone even highly educated non criminals could
have their behaviors altered by mere contextual

Maynard On Euthanasia
I am dying and I refuse to lose my dignity. (Maynard). Many people feel this way when they learn
about the life changing statement that they have a terminal disease. Brittany Maynard, who was
diagnosed with a terminal brain disease decided to choose the option of Euthanasia to save her
dignity and leave the world by her own choice and means. Euthanasia is the termination of a very
sick person s life in order to relieve their suffering. A person who undergoes euthanasia usually has
an incurable condition but there are other instances where some people want their life to be ended.
This term of euthanasia is derived from the Greek word euthanatos which means easy death
(Nordqvist). This topic known as euthanasia is a controversial issue that... Show more content on

I probably would have suffered in hospice care for weeks or even months. And my family would
have had to watch that (Maynard). Maynard believes that her family won t be able to see her in
a deteriorating condition therefore decided to opt out of that. Families can t see their loved one
in pain everyday of every hour. I did not want this nightmare scenario for my family, so I started
researching death with dignity .......I quickly decided that death with dignity was the best
option for me and my family (Maynard). Maynard felt that undergoing a treatment for getting rid
of the tumor would be more painful for her and her family. No one can give Brittany and her
family a hundred percent guarantee that tumor would actually go away forever. Doctors
confirmed that if Brittany goes under treatment, she will be the same person she was before
treatment meaning that treatment will have side effects that might affect her for her entire life.
The lethal drug used for euthanasia patients is more cost efficient for people. Soumya
Karlamangla, author of Will California s end of life push lethal drugs over costlier care?
explains that drugs that keep one alive are too expensive to afford and have no guarantee of
being helpful while the injection or pills to end life are free of cost (Karlamangla). The questions
of saving money and doctor s guarantee that the incurable disease will go away with treatment
comes into play during making this important choice. Why would one pay more money for a drug
that has no guarantee of saving their life and getting their hopes up when there is a big possibility
that nothing will happen. While the lethal drug also known as the euthanasia drug is much less
expensive and will do its job with certainty. Therefore if one is debating what route to choose when

Why I Want To Be Cheer Essay
The moment I knew I wanted to do cheer the rest of high school was during fishbowl. While I
was cheering to the loud, enthusiastic crowd, I had realized I was much happier cheering on the
sidelines than in the stands, or anywhere else. I just wanted to be cheering because cheer is very
fun, and I love everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly
emphasizes school spirit. I am very dedicated and excited about cheer because it involves skills
that I naturally pick up on quickly and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. What makes
a good team member is someone who looks out for everyone and is there for you no matter what.
Someone who is always willing to help out the team and team mates individually as well.

The Chaucer s The Pardoner s Tale
The Pardoner s Tale is a package in book form. It has it all greed, gluttony, drunkenness, murder,
bad guys getting what s coming to them. What s not to like? And we don t even need a pardon
after reading it, because in the end, it s a morality lesson (Do you get it?) Anyways, the pilgrims
are going on a trip from London to Canterbury, where a group of medieval pilgrims are making
their way to visit the remains of Saint Thomas Becket in the hope of getting some forgiveness from
sin. To pass the time, they take turns telling stories. They will each tell a tale and the one they
find the most amusing they will get a prize! One of them is a Pardoner, a low level Church
official who travels around selling pardons, which are just what they sound like. Pardons are
documents signed by the Pope that grants pardon for sins. The host asks the pardoner to tell a
tale. Before he began his tale, the Pardoner exposes himself. Before he starts his tale, he reveals
himself. He does that by revealing the tricks of his trade to all the pilgrims. This Pardoner roams
all over the countryside giving out pardons and fake relics just to get money. That s all he cares
about; he couldn t care less about the souls of the people who buy his pardons and relics. He d
take money from the poorest person in town if he had to (money, money, money that s all he cares
about) When he finally tells his tale, he describes it as one of the morality tales he preaches to

Christian Truths in the Screwtape Lettters by C.S. Lewis...
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book of thirty one letters in which a retired, senior demon
named Screwtape coaches his newly educated nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is quite troubled
when it comes to tempting his patient. Nevertheless, he need not fear because faithful uncle
Screwtape has offered his services. A unique character featured in the letters is, The Enemy. This
character refers to God, the natural enemy of Satan. Of course Satan is referred to as Our Lord. In
the letters, and Wormwoodand Screwtape try their very best to please Satan and bring him glory.
Although the book is written from the demons perspective, Lewis naturally uses it to highlight
important truths of the Christian faith. The patient or the human... Show more content on

...Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring but still intending to
do our enemies will, looks round a universe from which every trace of him seems to have
vanished, and ask why he has been forsaken and still obeys (Lewis, 39). What truths are you
looking at if you have never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire
story s focal point is demonic, literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an
understanding of how he forces of darkness try to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is
exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That they can push this poor human to such
limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive factor in their lives. These are real
things that happen to people. Once devout believers suffer a trial then suddenly and all together,
the mere thought of the gospel is ridiculous. It is a harrowing truth. Many people are raised to be
unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell either way. In contrast, the
Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or not. No temptation has
overcome you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted
beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that you may be
able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Screwtape often tells that the Enemy

Essay On Fringe Catholicism
I. Introduction
This paper will answer the question of why Latin American Catholics are increasingly practicing
Fringe Catholicism. Catholicism has been an essential part of Latin American identity since it was
first imposed on the indigenous people by Spanish colonial powers. The mixture of Catholicism
with indigenous religions has led to a different development of Catholicism in Latin America than in
other parts of the world. For this reason many people cite, indigenous religions as a reason why
there are many practices in Latin America that do not align with the Catholic Church. Yet, the
persistent interdependence between the two religious groups does not address the various factors
that have led to an increased number of people praying to` non canonized folk saints.
This puzzle is important for it addresses a significant cultural shift in an essential aspect of Latin
American identity. Through various revolutions and almost consistent instability in various
countries, Catholicism has been a dependable creator and developer of Latin American identity.
Therefore the increased practice of Fringe Catholicism becomes a question not only of cultural
identity but also one which addresses the shifting relationships between practitioners and other
members of the community. Yet, the previous literature is consistently lacking in providing a
detailed explanation of why people pray to these various folk saints and rather answer the question
of why these saints exist. A more

Nonetheless the early decision making processes are universal to the human condition. Within the
psychotherapeutic frame work of processes these are summarised as consciousness raising, social
liberation, emotional arousal, self revaluation, commitment, rewards and helping relationships,
these aspects will be examined in relation to the researcher s process of transformation. The
researcher discovered that two aspects were not applicable to her methodology, these were
countering and environmental control. Lyubomirsky (2007) has endeavoured to create a
framework of how to create sustainable happiness through intentional activity, she suggests that
circumstances account for only 10% of our happiness and that there is a 40% range of possibility
that is open to enhancement towards flourishing rather than merely being mentally healthy. The
researcher will look into this by contrasting Lyubomirsky s ideas on the body and soul connection
with her own experience. In 1949 Campbell introduced the concept of the hero s journey in his
book The hero with a thousand faces which emerged from his studies of comparative mythologies.
He asserted that we think in story and that our stories have patterns that evolve over time. Our
journey through life towards or as an expression of authenticity spirals and revisits itself over time;
Campbell stated that these are in fact expressions of universal and eternal themes. Events and
experiences of our lives reshape our story of what

First, the aggressor in this situation is only 15 years old. At 15 years old, the aggressor felt it both
necessary and acceptable to violently attack another player. Moreover, the 15 year old victim
subjected to the attack was incredibly damaged emotionally from the event. Secondly, the verbiage
used is so violent which highlights the significance of racism in minor hockey. The nature of the
sport evokes intense and sporadic emotions which encourages the oppressor to express their truest
emotions. As a result, one can conclude that racism is deeply rooted within that player s beliefs, and
which is not exclusive to this incident.
The next example of racism in minor hockey involves parent s involvement in the problem. Parents
yelled racial slurs and insults, including Go home, Mohammed, at a referee on the ice (CBC, 2015).
This is a particularly disturbing incident which speaks volumes to the root of the problem. It is
explained that parents have a very passionate belief and concern attached to preserving the
segregation of the sport. Even the diversity of referees is a sensitive area to the existing culture.
Furthermore, this incident speaks volumes to the acceptance and magnitude of racist behaviour
demonstrated even by parents. In other words, parents are so outraged by the inclusion of visible
minorities in the game that they cannot contain their racist thoughts to

Indian Ocean Trade Dbq
Before 1448, European had to use the Silk Road to trade with Asia. In 1453, Muslim took over
Constantinople; the only way to Asia had been cut. European nations started to use the Maritime
way, and they took over many places in Asia as their access to an easier trade system. Among these
European nations, like what they did to America, their goals and the way they achieved their
initiatives in Asiaare different from one another. Portuguese was the first group that explored the
way to Asia without going through Muslims. Because of their special geography, Portugal had
advanced technology. They had outgun ships and controlled the sea area. They also established
bases in key locations of the places they conquered. They created trading post empire by force.

Unlike Spain and Portugal, Dutch used private trading companies. The Holland Government gave
these companies power to make war and govern the Native people. They set their goal on Indonesia.
They attempted to control the shipping and production of the Asian spices such as: cloves,
cinnamon, nutmeg and soon. Dutch forced people only to trade with them, if they refused, their
productions would be destroyed. Dutch wanted pure profits from Asia. They used military (bloody
methods) to ruin the Native people and their trade system instead of economic competitions. British
also used private trading companies and they focused on India. Because British settlers were private

To sell cottons back to Europe would give them huge wealth. At that time, Mughal Empire was still

Descriptive Essay On A Bag
For most college students, carrying some form of bag is a necessity. Depending on the person,
they might carry a backpack, purse, messenger bag, tote, or something else. Bags are sometimes a
way to express yourself, and sometimes appearance doesn t matter rather the functionality of it.
Many people chose their bag of choice based on these ideas.
For myself, my choice of bag was due to convenience and I ll explain. The backpack I use currently,
I have had since my sophomore year of high school. It is a grey JanSport backpack, that has one
large pocket and one small pocket. It has a giant hole in the side from years of use and to put it
nicely I am to frugal to buy a new one. Until, the straps breakoff I will probably continue to use
it. In high school I chose this backpack based on appearance (Grey, which is my favorite color)
and the popularity of the brand. Today, I don t care much about the appearance, as many could
gather from the giant hole. I use it because I have it and its still functional.
Laptop: My laptop is a necessity for me and that is why I always carry it in my backpack. I m
often on campus most of the day and I use the laptop to work on assignments, quizzes, watch
Netflix between classes, or browse the internet.
Binder: My binder is a ВЅ inch white organizational tool. I use it to hold hard copies of

Uniform Trade Secret Case
1) Calculating the price of winning bidder must pay. Would you seek patent protection, trade secret
protection, or both? What problems might you face in attempting to secure patent or trade secret
rights, and what advantage.
Trade secret regulation, unlike patent, copyright, and trademark law is an existence of state
common law, progressively regularized by adoption of the Uniform Trade Secret Act by state
legislatures and enactment by the Congress of the Electronic Theft (Riley, 2008). There is likely
for competitive advantage when someone has discovered or developed an original product or

Thus, if the case is handled by the jury, they are likely to find out that the former programmers had
misappropriated trade secrets, which they were using in their own products, and that they had

the sale of the infringing software program.
4) Washington applies and that Washington has adopted the UTSA without modification, present an
argument that the competitor should be liable for trade secret misappropriation.
A trade secret loses its secret status if a competitor of the owner knows about it. Thus, the public
as a whole need not know about trade secret for it to cease being secret. For instance, if Coca Cola
formula is known to its competitors, the formula would lose its secret under the law, even if the
competitor did not disclose it to the public at large.
A person who engages in criminal conduct in order to take a trade secret will be found to have
engaged in improper means. For example, fraud, trespass, theft, bribery, and breaking and entering
building (Bundy et al, 2008). By the same symbol, the fact that trade secret misappropriation is a
crime in a given state does not mean that a defendant s improper means need constitute criminal

Pressure At A Young Age
Since I was in the seventh grade, pressure has always been a part of everything I have done. This
has stemmed from a variety of different sources, mostly standards that I set for myself. Without
these standards, I would never have become the person I am today. The lifestyle I live brings
pressure along with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike
others, I was put under a tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on
the court. Pressure may be in many ways, depending on the person going through a situation
where it is present. For me, pressure is when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot
do. Unfortunately, many times, the issue was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do
something, rather than letting someone else do it for me. This feeling was often a major factor
in determining whether or not I wanted to do anything outside of my comfort zone. Once I
entered middle school, pressure began to set in. When I was in the seventh grade, academics
became more difficult, and the work load increased. However, as all of my friends did, I signed up
to play middle school basketball. I was very excited to play for a new coach, who happened to be
at the time Chris Wheelock. After the first week of practice, I was feeling very good about my
chances to be a key contributor to a good team, as well as feeling comfortable with my coaches and
teammates. Then, after one hard practice, I

Regarding the Baroque period, it is stated the period of time in Western Europe from about 1600

Rational choice theory specifies that all individuals makes logical decisions. It states a person acts
without thinking, or even showing any sort of feelings. Theorist think that individuals don t care in
know type of way about the crime that they have committed. Individuals also don t consider their
present nor their future when committing these crimes. In this case, it provides the person that is
committing the crime with the greatest satisfaction, because they feel like what needed to be done
was done to benefit them. The rational choice theory in this case with Jodi is that she felt that she
had to kill Travis so that he wouldn t communicate with no other females. She felt this if she couldn

killing him was the prudent and logical decision that she encountered. Also, the trait theory also

which was the jealous traits that she showed, by not wanting Travis to talk to anyone even though
they were not together. I also think this is considering to be a trait theories, because of the different
behavior patterns that were going through her mind during the time of the relationship, and break

Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail Essay
Power Analysis: Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail A statement from eight white
clergymen from Alabama prompted Martin Luther King s Letter From Birmingham Jail . This
statement criticized Kings actions of non violent protests against racial segregation and the
injustice of unequal civil rights in America (Carpenter elt al.). The eight clergymen considered
Birmingham to be their town and King was disrupting the Law and Order and Common Sense
established in coping with racial issues in Alabama during this time (Carpenter elt al. par 1). These

Martin Luther King s Jr. s letter was influential in inspiring and ultimately altering societal
attitude on racial issues. He used a creative use of language that addresses any plausible audience
including: the clergymen, the religious moderates, the equal rights supporters and the oppressed
black community. The use of famous icons, religious leaders, and traditional scholars as
references provided a multitude of examples that clearly illustrated King s key points. Moreover,
King carefully analyzed the duplicity of racial segregation through examples of civil
disobedience among important historical icons valued in society (King par 21). In doing this
King is able to utilize Luke s, three dimensional approach and tilt the power dynamic in his favor.
It is Luke s political strategy that helps King to create the desired power shift. His approach forces
his audience to look beyond the surface (one dimensional view), into the First Amendment rights to
protest (second dimensional view), and further into the behavior that oppresses and segregates the
black community (third dimensional view) (Lukes). King creates parallels and invokes images that
are familiar to his audience. In particular, in aims these images to the White Anglo Saxon society
by creating the awareness of their hypocrisy. King uses the examples of Shadrach, Meschack and

The Battle Of Santa Rosa Island
After several months of battles between the north and the south in several states, including
North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, the war reached Florida in 1861.
The first battle to reach Florida occurred when there was a standoff at Fort Pickens. When
Florida seceded from the Union, there were Union soldiers stationed at Fort Pickens that were
asked to surrender. A force of almost 1,000 volunteer soldiers landed on Santa Rosa Island with
the intent of raiding the outlying defenses and camps near Fort Pickens. General Richard H.
Anderson led these soldiers. Mainly the Sixth New York Infantry Regiment defended the forts
and camps. Soon after the Confederates burned and ransacked the Union camp, reinforcements
were sent from Fort Pickens to assist the confused Union soldiers. The Confederates had 18
killed, 39 wounded, and 30 imprisoned soldiers, while the Union had 14 killed, 29 wounded, and
20 imprisoned. By March 1862, the Confederates completely withdrew from the area. This battle
became known as the Battle of Santa Rosa Island because the union troops landed on Santa Rosa
Island, four miles east of Fort Pickens. Most of the civil war took place in the states of Virginia
and Tennessee but two major battles of and several smaller altercations took place in the state of
Florida. On February 20, 1864 the largest civil war battle in Florida took place near Lake City.
This battle occurred a year after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and it was

My Totem Pole Essay
My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and
British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation
as legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell
the carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally,
some totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature

Gospel Of Luke Analysis
The Gospel of Luke was written by a Greek speaking Christian. It was not written to replace the
Gospel of Mark, but as a new account written for an audience under different circumstances than
Mark s community. The church was becoming more Gentiles than Jews. Most people in Luke s
community were not familiar with the Jewish traditions that were referred to by many preachers.
Many members of the community were well off as well. This community struggled to follow a
church that had a Hebrew core. These issues are what influenced Luke s writing. Luke wanted his
community to know that they were all included in God s plan for salvation even though in history
the Jews would have been the first to know. A few of the major themes of Luke s Gospelwere:
salvation for all, mercy and forgiveness, and modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early Christian community, this story was seen as a call to faith in Jesus who is present in the
church during stormy times (Kodell 953). This interpretation is still incredibly relevant for
Christians today. This passage shows Christians that Jesus is there for you through everything.
Even in tough times, Jesus is there. The storm in the passage is symbolic for stormy times in life.
Jesus calming the storm is representative of the support that God can provide for you during tough
times. No matter what the situation, God will be there for you.
The Calming of a Storm at Sea shows Luke s community the power of Jesus. It shows that Jesus
is there for you when you need him. The passage shows that even when you lack faith, like the
disciples did, God will still be there for you. In this story, Jesus takes a situation where the
disciples are in danger and calms it to where they are safe. This is representative of the fact that
when you are in danger, you can turn to Jesus and he will save you. The passage clearly shows God
s saving power and and the reaction of the

Nursing Roles Involved In An Inpatient Setting
Surgery, whether elective or emergent, is a stressful, complex event. Today, as a result of advances
in surgical techniques and instrumentation as well as in anesthesia, many surgical procedures that
were once performed in an inpatient setting now take place in an ambulatory or outpatient setting.
Approximately 60% of elective surgeries are now performed in an ambulatory or outpatient setting
(Russell, Williams Bulstrode, 2000). This trend has increased the acuity and complexity of surgical
patients and procedures. The number of surgical patients admitted for overnight hospitalstays is

Symbolism In The Slave By Isaac Bashevis Singer
The novel The Slave by Isaac Bashevis Singer is built on the life experiences of a Jewish
character named Jacob and a gentile woman he falls in love with named Wanda. Jacob is a
scholar who was sold to pagan peasant farmers after his immediate family was murdered in the
Chmielnicki massacres. Jan Bzik is Jacob s master and Wanda is Bzik s daughter. Due to the strong
love between the two, Jacob struggles to maintain his Judaismas Jewish law prohibits Jewsfrom
marrying gentiles. Conversion of a gentile is a capital offense in Poland, but Wanda chooses to
take on the religion of the Jews for the sake of the love she shares with Jacob. The two relocate
to a town called Pilitz where Wanda hides her gentile identity and Jacob helps her develop a new
persona named Sarah. As the two grow together, Jacob realizes that God does not control his life.
He states that God watches over one while Satan tempts one into presenting malevolent behavior.
He tells Wanda that it is up to him to choose between good and evil. This moment highlights the
struggles he faces with his faith.
Throughout the novel, it is evident that Wanda falls in love with Jacob. She takes care of him
and makes multiple sacrifices for him. She travels from the village and brings special foods to
Jacob while he takes care of cattle in the mountains. She cares for him when he is sick and
completes duties for him from Friday evenings to Saturday evenings as it is against Judaism to

Archetypes In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Throughout the book, the Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, the main
character, the Count of Monte Cristo has a certain je ne sais quoi. He defines a certain way, just
like the rest of the characters in the text do, as well as every single character ever written. That is
because of his archetype. An archetype is a type of character, detail, image, or situation that
continually reappears throughout literature. During the Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes,
also known through other aliases, is an example of the Shapeshifter. Throughout the text, he can be
seen switching from ally to enemy and suddenly back again. Other instances, such as Fernand

Caderousse is the Herald and not one of the Shadows only for the fact that he did not actively
participate in the crime against Dantes, only initiate change. And finally, Jacopo. While he does
not appear frequently, Jacopo represents the essential role of the Ally. He offers aid and support
when Dantes first escapes from the Chateau d If, and then again when he appears at the end. On
the opposite end of the spectrum, you observe the character archetypes for Batman. Batman is
the Hero, Joker is the Trickster, Robin is the Ally, Alfred is the Mentor, and the police, or law, is
the Guardian. Starting with Batman, Batman is the Hero because of the role he plays to protect
Gotham city, although he is not seen that way more often than not. The Joker is the Trickster and
not the Shadow, not only for the fact that Batman has a lot of enemies but because of the way the
Joker provides laughs and trickery into the storyline. Robin was the easiest one, as he is

Online Space And Its Impact On The World Wide Web
Communities in an online space have changed drastically since the rise of web 2.0. Web 2.0
refers to the current state of the World Wide Web. The previous version Web 1.0 allowed users to
only read, material in a linear format online. With the introduction of web 2.0 it gave anyone the
tools to read and write information online (Oreilly, 2007). It is the reason why social networking
sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Reddit exist. It allows user to communicate on an instant level.
Web 2.0increased the popularity of blogging, forums, i.e. online communities as anyone was able
to participate on them (Oreilly, 2007). Web 2.0 has given people all over the world the tools to
create and take part in communities based around common interests. Platforms such as reddit have
taken advantage of these tools and have given people the ability to invent new forms of
communities which are now a staple part of the online experience.
Reddit is community based platform which was created in 2005 and is one of the largest

Scarlet Letter Light Vs Light Essay
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, the contrast between light and darkness, or the
absence of light, is prevalent. Hawthorne uses light to show society and what it favors, while he
uses darkness and shadows to demonstrate what society does not like. The Puritans, a religious
group in the 16th and 17th centuries in America, sought to purify the church and its believers from
the traditional, Catholic ideals. They valued community over individualism and shunned all sinners.
Hester Prynne, the main protagonist, commits adultery against her husband with one of the town s
ministers, Arthur Dimmesdale. Hester s sin is revealed, due to the birth of Pearl, their daughter,
while Dimmesdale s sin is kept hidden. Each character struggles with the views of society and
finding their true self in different ways; however, they all struggle with conforming to the ideals of
the society. Therefore, light demonstrates the constriction of the true human nature by society,
while darkness allows one to be unique and free from social constraints.
Daylight or sunlight represents society and, like society, the daylight also rejects Hester because
of her sin. Pearl, always observant, says to Hester that the sunshine does not love you. It runs
away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on your bosom (Hawthorne 160). The
sunshine rejects Hester because of her scarlet letter, just like society does. After her public
shaming, she only finds a friend in Pearl because everyone

Institutional Discrimination Within The United States Of...
According to the text The Borderlands refers to the area of common culture along the boarder
between the United States of America and Mexico. The story mostly talks about the emergence of
maquiladoras on the Mexican side. Maquiladoras are foreign owned factories established just across
the boarder in Mexico. The first core concept that comes to mind when reading the borderlands is 1.
Institutional discrimination. Institutional discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal
rights to individuals and groups that results from the normal operations of a society. The reason
I incorporate Institutional discrimination into this is because the factories that are in the
borderlands did not provide insurance or benefits to workers simple because they didn t have to.
The factories are denying not only equal rights but no rights at all by not giving their workers
insurance or benefits. The second core concept is 2. Class. Class is a group of people who have
similar level of wealth and income. Class can be incorporated here because in mid 2007 1.2 million
people worked in the maquiladoras. The daily take home pay for entry level workers was $3.
Entry level workers were in a a class of their own. The third core concept is 3. Glass Ceiling.
Glass ceiling is an invisible barrier that blocks the promotion of a qualified individual in a work
environment because of the individuals gender , race or ethnicity. Many workers in the
maquiladoras were not given the chance

A Brief Biography of Vincent Van Gogh
When most people think of Vincent van Gogh, they think of an artist with mental health issues
who cut off his own ear. Some stop at that, but others then progress to think of his Starry Night
painting. Van Gogh is well known for not becoming famous until after his death. In fact, he sold
but one painting during his life, and that was mostly thanks to his brother, Theo. Today, his
paintings are some of the most sought after and expensive works ever to be auctioned. However,
though most modern art appreciators celebrate his paintings, his life, and are well informed about
him, the rest of the world sits by and merely acknowledges him as a talented artist gone awry. It is
not wrong to look at a painting and try to figure out what the artist was thinking when they made it,
but it is a shame to not also try to understand what led them to that point. Why did they produce it
in the first place? This is especially the case with Vincent van Gogh, whose whole life from birth to
death must be examined. Theodorus van Gogh and Anna Cornelia Carbentus successfully bore
their first child on March 30, 1853. Both believed in having a large family and strived for
normality and high social status, which proved to be problematic when little Vincent showed early
signs of aloofness and strange habits. Though he was especially close with his brother, Theo,
growing up, Vincent never really seeked company. For the most part, his childhood was fairly
happy, full of routine Bible lessons from his

The Story Of A Bedroom
In a bedroom, a girl lies still on her bed. She is clothed in her pajamas and a robe as if she didn t
quite finish getting ready for bed. She is rolled over on her side, her arms and legs bound with
rope and her eyes staring blankly at the pink wall in front of her that is now speckled with
blood. Her blood. There is a hole in the back of her head where a bullet pierced through her skull.
In another room, a woman has her hands and feet bound tightly with rope. She is also dressed in
her pajamas, but she has adhesive tape wrapped around her mouth. Her dead eyes look horrified
as if they are staring at the killer who took her life away. She has a bullet wound on the side of
her head. In the basement, a boy is found lying on a couch. He is gagged and bound like the
woman upstairs. His head is propped up by pillows and a ghastly hole decorates the middle of
his forehead where a bullet embedded itself in his skull. In the furnace room, a man is found lying
on top of a mattress box. He is bound and gagged like two of the previous victims. However, his is
the most gruesome murderthe most macabre murder. He did have a gunshot wound on the front of
his head, but he was probably already dead (or at least dying) when that deadly injury was

How Interracial Marriage Affects Children
How interracial Marriage Affects Children
What do you think that your reactions would be if your sibling or friend introduced their spouse,
who happened to be from another race? Would you be taken aback? Would you never accept the
situation? If that would be the case, it is the time to face the reality.
These days, mixed color families and couples are common. I have personally seen many cases.
Interracial marriages happen everywhere. Even in Korea where people are proud of a five
thousand year of history of homogeneous population, interracial marriages occur. What is the
interracial marriage? It means marriage between different races that is a form of exogamy. The term
of interracial marriage is synonymous with interethnic marriage, ... Show more content on

Moreover, regardless of their own inner problems with identity, there would be negative effects
from outside. The first social group that children meet is family; parents role is specially important
and has the biggest impact in their lives. Multiracial parents are different races from the child.
Between parents, a multiracial child might try to choose one identity. One parent might try to pull
child in one direction while the other parent tries to pull the child in a different direction. At times,
if one parent is not chosen, he/she gives the child negative feedback to their child. This can cause
lack of supporting that the children should get from parents, and it may influence children s
emotional stability. Even though at times parents and child agree on the child s identity, society
does not accept their decision. In both cases, children might lay blame on their parents, and it
brings resentment in a family. ( Interracial Marriages ) The other problem that the children may
face in the family is conflict with relatives or siblings (Rosenblatt, Karis, and Powell). Most times,
grandparents are close to the multiracial child. However, sometimes because of their traditional
views, grandparents might be afraid of being associated with children of another color. In other
words, they feel fear from being stigmatized whey they are seen with their multiracial
grandchildren. At times, the child might be pushed the one side of the family of the parents that the

The Theme Of Sublime Nature In Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
In the novella Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses geography to further the plot, reveal the true
intentions of characters and convey the novella s theme of sublime nature. The theme of sublime
nature is the idea that nature is comprised of a mixture of terror and beauty. One example of
sublime nature supported by geography is the monster, which is truly a terror in appearance and
spirit being born in Ingolstadt. Shelly contrasts this terror of Ingolstadt to the beauty of Geneva,
Frankensteins birthplace. Once the fruit of Frankenstein s labor comes to fruition and the horrific
monster is born, even Frankenstein himself is unable to endure the aspect of the being and attempts
to cast it away and forget it (Shelley 101). The apparent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These events are meant to show that terror in the form of the monster has survived in the beauty
of nature, setting out on a journey to achieve spiritual peace. However, the monster, who has
traveled Europe in search of Geneva, in fact seeks and is surrounded by the peace it can never
have, as the terror which resides inside of the monster s soul will not allow it. One such case occurs
when spring begins and the monster is felt [the] emotions of gentleness and pleasure in the sunshine
and the balminess of the air but then realized that he was still lonely and quickly became bitter
(Shelley 246). The vengeance which the monster wishes upon Frankenstein is a manifestation of an
eternal fury that the monster has as a result of the loneliness that Frankenstein has imposed upon
him.
The theme of sublime nature is perpetuated by Shelley s incorporation of violence in locations with
beautiful lake and mountain views. As Frankenstein takes a tour of a mountain and glacier he sees
sublime nature in the form of the pallid lightning that played above Mont Blanc, showing that
terrors such as lightning already exist within the domain of the beautiful mountainside (Shelley
167). Shelley uses this ominous mood to foreshadow Frankenstein s future encounter with another
herald of terror, the monster. Not long after Frankenstein sees an object in the distance and
suddenly, A flash of lightning illuminated the object, the

Student Veterans And Traditional Students
As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is
imperative to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and
traditional students (students without military experience), and what effect those differences may
have on student veterans ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the Universityof
Alaska Anchorage, assessing their gradepoint average, age, hours spent studying, and various other
factors which we deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a
radical difference between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional
counterparts. The data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a
letter grade behind their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that
student veterans ability to adjust to life within the university system requires further examination.
As more veterans continue to seek higher education, it is essential that those within the university
system strive to understand, and alleviate some of the difficulties burdening this emerging
demographic.

The Change Of A Change Leader
I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must
use to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009)
Getting people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they
perceive it as favorable to them and whether the changehad been adequately justified to them
(p.302). If it was a small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large
change it will take some work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to
communicate a change is to discuss the need for the change. I believe that if people can see why
the process needs to changed, it will open them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a
lot of process done wrong or a slow way because it was how it has always been done in that
organization. If someone would have come into that organization and told them that the amount of
time they were wasting and showed them the new way, I think the organization would buy in. The
second strategy that I would use for communicating the change is to provide everyone with
accurate information on the change, it would include how the change is going to happen and how
it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel they need to know so I do not
overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information overload is even more
problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a

Roosevelt s annual message, delivered on December fifth 1904, refered to Dominican situation and

Theodore Roosevelt became president after the assassination of President McKinley. He was
thought of as the first modern president because he was the first to get
involved in foreign affairs, with his Big Stick Policy. Other things he did during his president
that are remembered for are his Square deal, Hay Pauncefote treaty, his corollary to the Monroe
Doctrine, and his trust busting. The Big Stick Policy came upon after Roosevelt said that his
motto was to speak softly and carry a big stick. The press gave his foreign policy the name
(The Big Stick Policy). Roosevelt warned Chronic wrongdoing, or an impotence which results in a
general loosening of the ties of civilized society, may in America, as elsewhere, ultimately require
intervention by some civilized nation (veeser 314). Roosevelt acted boldly and decisively in
several occasions in
his attempt to get the reputation that the US is a world power. Imperialists liked his policy, but
there were still critics that disliked the policy and favored noninvolvement in global politics.

  • 2. Analysis Of The Pathophysiological Framework Of Dilated... Dilated Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is the deterioration of muscles within the heart which in turn causes the heart to become thick, rigid or enlarged; this physiological change causes decreased contractility and may lead to arrhythmias or heart failure (VanMeter and Hubert, 2013). In the case study, the client is a seven year old girl from Chetwynd who is recently diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. When she was ten months old, she underwent a hearttransplant for her hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a complex and rare heart defect that is congenital, or present at birth, in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped. The left ventricle is not functional and therefore the left side... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rapid degeneration of myocardial fibers and diffuse inflammation lead to ventricular dilation and hypertrophy which cause atrial enlargement and stasis of blood in the left ventricle (Park, 2008). The enlargement of the remaining heart chambers is mainly due to left ventricular failure, but it may also be secondary to the primary cardiomyopathic process. Dilated cardiomyopathy is associated with both systolic and diastolic dysfunctions, with decreased systolic function being the predominant abnormality (Parker, 2008). This dysfunction leads to decreased contractility and general contractile dysfunction (Parker, 2008). Progressive dilation can lead to significant mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, which may further decrease the cardiac output and increase end systolic volumes and ventricular wall stress. In turn, this leads to further dilation and myocardial dysfunction (Friedberg, 2008). Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of heart muscle disease in pediatrics (Chow, Ateah, Scott, Ricci, Kyle, 2013). Dilated cardiomyopathy can be a life threatening condition and can decrease life expectancy if severe damage occurs. Currently, the five year survival rate for children diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy is between forty and eighty percent. The survival rate decreases if they child is diagnosed at five years or older (Friedberg, 2008). Diagnosis Diagnosis methods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this dissertation, research methodologies selected are qualitative research methods by interviews and case studyapproach. According to (Yin 2003) a case study allows investigators to focus on a case and retain a holistic and real word perspective with (Simons 2009) adding that its primary purpose is to generate in depth understanding of a specific topic. Anticipating resistance from the reader Gladwell uses rhetorical strategies such as real life examples, controlled experiments and theories to help advance his claim and to help persuade the reader to side with his argument. Minor, seemingly insignificant quality of life crimes, they said, were Tipping Points for violent crime (292). These real life examples also helped Gladwell advance his claim that social context can change the behavior of the larger population. Gladwell uses this example to help support his claim by showing that unlike Bernie Goetz who was only one man, changing small things in our environmental context can lead to a large systemic change in society. Gladwell strategically uses the Zimbardo Prison Experiment, because this shows that with the two previous cases that the possibility of the subject being a criminal was eliminated. This experiment shows that even educated Stanford students in a monitored and controlled atmosphere are at the mercy of the social context around them. In the Zimbardo six days in because of the effect it was having on the prisoners. Brittany Maynard, who was diagnosed with a terminal brain disease decided to choose the option of Euthanasia to save her dignity and leave the world by her own choice and means. Euthanasia is the termination of a very sick person s life in order to relieve their suffering. A person who undergoes euthanasia usually has an incurable condition but there are other instances where some people want their life to be ended. This term of euthanasia is derived from the Greek word euthanatos which means easy death (Nordqvist). This topic known as euthanasia is a controversial issue that... Maynard believes that her family won t be able to see her in a deteriorating condition therefore decided to opt out of that. Families can t see their loved one in pain everyday of every hour. I did not want this nightmare scenario for my family, so I started researching death with dignity .......I quickly decided that death with dignity was the best option for me and my family (Maynard). Maynard felt that undergoing a treatment for getting rid of the tumor would be more painful for her and her family. No one can give Brittany and her family a hundred percent guarantee that tumor would actually go away forever. Doctors confirmed that if Brittany goes under treatment, she will be the same person she was before treatment meaning that treatment will have side effects that might affect her for her entire life. The lethal drug used for euthanasia patients is more cost efficient for people. Soumya Karlamangla, author of Will California s end of life push lethal drugs over costlier care? explains that drugs that keep one alive are too expensive to afford and have no guarantee of being helpful while the injection or pills to end life are free of cost (Karlamangla). The questions of saving money and doctor s guarantee that the incurable disease will go away with treatment comes into play during making this important choice. Why would one pay more money for a drug that has no guarantee of saving their life and getting their hopes up when there is a big possibility that nothing will happen. While the lethal drug also known as the euthanasia drug is much less expensive and will do its job with certainty. Therefore if one is debating what route to choose when ... What s not to like? And we don t even need a pardon after reading it, because in the end, it s a morality lesson (Do you get it?) Anyways, the pilgrims are going on a trip from London to Canterbury, where a group of medieval pilgrims are making their way to visit the remains of Saint Thomas Becket in the hope of getting some forgiveness from sin. To pass the time, they take turns telling stories. They will each tell a tale and the one they find the most amusing they will get a prize! One of them is a Pardoner, a low level Church official who travels around selling pardons, which are just what they sound like. Pardons are documents signed by the Pope that grants pardon for sins. The host asks the pardoner to tell a tale. Before he began his tale, the Pardoner exposes himself. Before he starts his tale, he reveals himself. He does that by revealing the tricks of his trade to all the pilgrims. This Pardoner roams all over the countryside giving out pardons and fake relics just to get money. That s all he cares about; he couldn t care less about the souls of the people who buy his pardons and relics. What truths are you looking at if you have never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire story s focal point is demonic, literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an understanding of how he forces of darkness try to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That they can push this poor human to such limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive factor in their lives. These are real things that happen to people. Once devout believers suffer a trial then suddenly and all together, the mere thought of the gospel is ridiculous. It is a harrowing truth. Many people are raised to be unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell either way. In contrast, the Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or not. • 15. Essay On Fringe Catholicism I. Introduction This paper will answer the question of why Latin American Catholics are increasingly practicing Fringe Catholicism. Catholicism has been an essential part of Latin American identity since it was first imposed on the indigenous people by Spanish colonial powers. The mixture of Catholicism with indigenous religions has led to a different development of Catholicism in Latin America than in other parts of the world. For this reason many people cite, indigenous religions as a reason why there are many practices in Latin America that do not align with the Catholic Church. Yet, the persistent interdependence between the two religious groups does not address the various factors that have led to an increased number of people praying to` non canonized folk saints. This puzzle is important for it addresses a significant cultural shift in an essential aspect of Latin American identity. Through various revolutions and almost consistent instability in various countries, Catholicism has been a dependable creator and developer of Latin American identity. Therefore the increased practice of Fringe Catholicism becomes a question not only of cultural identity but also one which addresses the shifting relationships between practitioners and other members of the community. Yet, the previous literature is consistently lacking in providing a detailed explanation of why people pray to these various folk saints and rather answer the question of why these saints exist. Lyubomirsky (2007) has endeavoured to create a framework of how to create sustainable happiness through intentional activity, she suggests that circumstances account for only 10% of our happiness and that there is a 40% range of possibility that is open to enhancement towards flourishing rather than merely being mentally healthy. The researcher will look into this by contrasting Lyubomirsky s ideas on the body and soul connection with her own experience. In 1949 Campbell introduced the concept of the hero s journey in his book The hero with a thousand faces which emerged from his studies of comparative mythologies. He asserted that we think in story and that our stories have patterns that evolve over time. Our journey through life towards or as an expression of authenticity spirals and revisits itself over time; Campbell stated that these are in fact expressions of universal and eternal themes. As a result, one can conclude that racism is deeply rooted within that player s beliefs, and which is not exclusive to this incident. The next example of racism in minor hockey involves parent s involvement in the problem. Parents yelled racial slurs and insults, including Go home, Mohammed, at a referee on the ice (CBC, 2015). This is a particularly disturbing incident which speaks volumes to the root of the problem. It is explained that parents have a very passionate belief and concern attached to preserving the segregation of the sport. Even the diversity of referees is a sensitive area to the existing culture. The lifestyle I live brings pressure along with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike others, I was put under a tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on the court. Pressure may be in many ways, depending on the person going through a situation where it is present. For me, pressure is when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot do. Unfortunately, many times, the issue was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do something, rather than letting someone else do it for me. This feeling was often a major factor in determining whether or not I wanted to do anything outside of my comfort zone. Once I entered middle school, pressure began to set in. Archetypes In The Count Of Monte Cristo Throughout the book, the Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, the main character, the Count of Monte Cristo has a certain je ne sais quoi. He defines a certain way, just like the rest of the characters in the text do, as well as every single character ever written. That is because of his archetype. An archetype is a type of character, detail, image, or situation that continually reappears throughout literature. During the Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes, also known through other aliases, is an example of the Shapeshifter. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you observe the character archetypes for Batman. Batman is the Hero, Joker is the Trickster, Robin is the Ally, Alfred is the Mentor, and the police, or law, is the Guardian. Starting with Batman, Batman is the Hero because of the role he plays to protect Gotham city, although he is not seen that way more often than not. The Joker is the Trickster and not the Shadow, not only for the fact that Batman has a lot of enemies but because of the way the Joker provides laughs and trickery into the storyline. • 42. Scarlet Letter Light Vs Light Essay In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, the contrast between light and darkness, or the absence of light, is prevalent. Hawthorne uses light to show society and what it favors, while he uses darkness and shadows to demonstrate what society does not like. The Puritans, a religious group in the 16th and 17th centuries in America, sought to purify the church and its believers from the traditional, Catholic ideals. They valued community over individualism and shunned all sinners. Hester Prynne, the main protagonist, commits adultery against her husband with one of the town s ministers, Arthur Dimmesdale. Hester s sin is revealed, due to the birth of Pearl, their daughter, while Dimmesdale s sin is kept hidden. Each character struggles with the views of society and finding their true self in different ways; however, they all struggle with conforming to the ideals of the society. Therefore, light demonstrates the constriction of the true human nature by society, while darkness allows one to be unique and free from social constraints. Daylight or sunlight represents society and, like society, the daylight also rejects Hester because of her sin. Pearl, always observant, says to Hester that the sunshine does not love you. It runs away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on your bosom (Hawthorne 160). The sunshine rejects Hester because of her scarlet letter, just like society does. According to the text The Borderlands refers to the area of common culture along the boarder between the United States of America and Mexico. The story mostly talks about the emergence of maquiladoras on the Mexican side. Maquiladoras are foreign owned factories established just across the boarder in Mexico. The first core concept that comes to mind when reading the borderlands is 1. Institutional discrimination. Institutional discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups that results from the normal operations of a society. The reason I incorporate Institutional discrimination into this is because the factories that are in the borderlands did not provide insurance or benefits to workers simple because they didn t have to. The factories are denying not only equal rights but no rights at all by not giving their workers insurance or benefits. The second core concept is 2. Class. Class is a group of people who have similar level of wealth and income. Class can be incorporated here because in mid 2007 1.2 million people worked in the maquiladoras. The daily take home pay for entry level workers was $3. Entry level workers were in a a class of their own. The third core concept is 3. Glass Ceiling. Glass ceiling is an invisible barrier that blocks the promotion of a qualified individual in a work environment because of the individuals gender , race or ethnicity. • 46. A Brief Biography of Vincent Van Gogh When most people think of Vincent van Gogh, they think of an artist with mental health issues who cut off his own ear. Some stop at that, but others then progress to think of his Starry Night painting. Van Gogh is well known for not becoming famous until after his death. In fact, he sold but one painting during his life, and that was mostly thanks to his brother, Theo. Today, his paintings are some of the most sought after and expensive works ever to be auctioned. However, though most modern art appreciators celebrate his paintings, his life, and are well informed about him, the rest of the world sits by and merely acknowledges him as a talented artist gone awry. It is not wrong to look at a painting and try to figure out what the artist was thinking when they made it, but it is a shame to not also try to understand what led them to that point. Why did they produce it in the first place? This is especially the case with Vincent van Gogh, whose whole life from birth to death must be examined. Theodorus van Gogh and Anna Cornelia Carbentus successfully bore their first child on March 30, 1853. Both believed in having a large family and strived for normality and high social status, which proved to be problematic when little Vincent showed early signs of aloofness and strange habits. Though he was especially close with his brother, Theo, growing up, Vincent never really seeked company. For the most part, his childhood was fairly happy, full of routine Bible lessons from his ... The Theme Of Sublime Nature In Frankenstein By Mary Shelley In the novella Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses geography to further the plot, reveal the true intentions of characters and convey the novella s theme of sublime nature. The theme of sublime nature is the idea that nature is comprised of a mixture of terror and beauty. One example of sublime nature supported by geography is the monster, which is truly a terror in appearance and spirit being born in Ingolstadt. Shelly contrasts this terror of Ingolstadt to the beauty of Geneva, Frankensteins birthplace. Once the fruit of Frankenstein s labor comes to fruition and the horrific monster is born, even Frankenstein himself is unable to endure the aspect of the being and attempts to cast it away and forget it (Shelley 101). One such case occurs when spring begins and the monster is felt [the] emotions of gentleness and pleasure in the sunshine and the balminess of the air but then realized that he was still lonely and quickly became bitter (Shelley 246). The vengeance which the monster wishes upon Frankenstein is a manifestation of an eternal fury that the monster has as a result of the loneliness that Frankenstein has imposed upon him. The theme of sublime nature is perpetuated by Shelley s incorporation of violence in locations with beautiful lake and mountain views. As Frankenstein takes a tour of a mountain and glacier he sees sublime nature in the form of the pallid lightning that played above Mont Blanc, showing that terrors such as lightning already exist within the domain of the beautiful mountainside (Shelley 167). According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as favorable to them and whether the changehad been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way, I think the organization would buy in.
