Factors That Implement Our Way Of Thinking
Many factors implement our way of thinking, but some tend to be more important than others. Age
is a factor, depending on your age often determines how serious you are and what your needs are.
For instance, being an adolescent you are going through stages of puberty and forming into an
adult. Your needs then tend to be impacted by your peers at school, and what is cool. Most
adolescents seek intimacy, communication, empathy and identity, your needs will definitely be
different than a thirty five year old seeking a marriage partner. All through history, the picture of a
beautiful lady, and an attractive man, has fluctuated. Perceptions of beauty do not only vary by
culture but have also evolved throughout time.In Ancient Egypt around 1292 1069 B.C., the ideal
women had narrow shoulders, a high waist, symmetrical face, and was thin. Throughout Ancient
Egypt the society back then was considered a sex positive setting, where pre marital sex took
place and was considered adequate. Old Greeks considered women beautiful, if they had a full
rounded shape, full bodied, and had light skin.
The Han Dynasty (206 B.C. 220 A.D.) women in this culture were viewed as perfect in the event
that they had expansive eyes, fair skin, small feet and a little midriff. Likewise, long dark hair,
white teeth, and red lips. Throughout the time of the Italian Renaissance, women were viewed
beautiful if they had full hips, fair skin, a rounded stomach and an apple blossom, as well as light
hair.

10 Most Unique Commercial Airports
10 Most Unique Commercial Airports There are a lot of strange and unique airports and airstrips
out there but not all of them are accessible to the general public. This is a list of a few strange
airports that you and me can get a ticket and fly to, that is, if you have to nerves to fly to some of
these unique feats of engineering. 1. Mataveri International Airport(IPC)
The Mataveri International Airport or Isla de Pascua Airport located on Rapa Nui (Easter
Islands) is the most remote airport in the world. The nearest continental point lies 3512 kms
(2182 miles) away in Central Chile in comparison that is more than the distance from New York
to Mexico City (2090 miles) and the nearest inhabited point 2075 kms (1289 miles) away in
Pitcairn Island. It has scheduled flights from Santiago, Chile (3759 kms) and is the main entry
point for tourists who come to Easter Island to see the mysterious Moai Statues. The airport was
once designated as an abort site for U.S Space shuttles. 2. Madeira International Airport (FNC)
Madeira International Airport which is also known as Funchal Airport is an international airport in
the Portuguese island chain of the Madeira. The airport was once known for its very short runway
which is surrounded by high mountains and the ocean making landing a dangerous task for even
the most experienced of pilots. In 2000, Engineers were told to extended the runway, and they came

This Historical Study Will Define The Dual Hostility Of
This historical study will define the dual hostility of the Soviet Union and the United States in
the instigation and resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The nuclear arms race of the
early 1960s defined a period of history in which a stalemate occurred between superpowers. The
United States and the Soviet Union were continually seeking to build larger nuclear arsenals and
to also expand their territorial influence over lesser nations. The Cuban Missile Crisis defines also
defines the minor role of Cuba that served to facilitate the expansion of communist influence on
the eastern seaboard to the United States. In this manner, Cuba could not be blamed for being a

It assumed the use of multiple and powerful nuclear weapons by both sides in the Cold War,
resulting in reciprocal total annihilation.
This strategic perspective defined the logical outcome of a nuclear war between two major
powers, which would result in the destruction of both sides of the conflict. Therefore, the U.S.
and the Soviets would lose in the case of a nuclear war, which laid the foundation for the Cold
War and the political conflicts that followed. This aspect of a cold war defines the ideological
expansion of communism and capitalist ideology, which would now compete for world
domination. By not being able to actually initiate a hot war between the two superpowers, it
became apparent that clandestine spy networks and the movement of nuclear arsenals would set the
stage for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
The Soviet Union played an important role in bringing nuclear missiles to Castro s Cuba in
1962, but it should also be mentioned in the context of the overreaching Cold War with the
United States. In a broader context of the Cold War, the United States has presaged the Cuban
Missile Crisis by President Kennedy s placement of nuclear missiles on the border of Turkey and
Italy, which was perceived as a threat by Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev,. These events took
place in 1961, which could be perceived as a cause for the movement of nuclear missiles by the
Soviets to Cuba in 1962. Overall, it was also evident that the Soviets and the U.S.

Analysis Of The Shining
Formal Analysis of The Shining In his exemplary horror film, The Shining, Stanley Kubrick
uses various components of editing and sound to create unique and terrifying scenes. Kubrick
relies on editing and sound design to aid the horrifying and creepy feel that was made in the in
the movie. All throughout the movie, the unique sound design and strong editing techniques
create many diverse effects on the viewer, however the most evident effect created a sense of
fear and suspense. One scene specifically emerges as a skillfully edited part in the movie. In this
scene, Wendy and Danny Torrance leave the hotel to walk through the hedge maze. Wendy and
Danny both wandered around inside the massive maze. The scene then cuts to a shot of Jack
walking up to a model of the maze that is in the lobby. The scene then cuts to a close up of the
model of the maze. Tiny versions of Wendy and Danny are shown walking through the maze. The
Jack and the viewer can hear Wendy and Danny talking even though he is not with them. This
helps the allusion that Jack is viewing them experience the maze. As the scene proceeds, it cuts to
clips of Wendy and Danny walking in the actual maze. The maze scene is a case of parallel
editing. Using parallel editing in the scene, the viewer accept that Wendy and Danny are
experiencing the maze while Jack is watching the through the model of the maze. This leads the
viewer to trust that Jack is viewing over the two experience the maze, alongside the sounds of the

Controversy Between Theistic Evolution And Religion
As Francis Collins stated, Theistic Evolution is the belief that evolution is real, but that it was set in
motion by God (Collins). Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution,
and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation
included Evolution. People with this belief argue that Evolution is a part of God s Plan. Instead of
interpreting the Bible literally, people of Theistic Evolution belief believe that the Bible should be
interpreted loosely, taking only certain amounts the Bible for truth. Theistic Evolution accepts all
scientific discoveries, or theories, such as the Big Bang, Evolution, and that the world began
millions of years ago. The controversy with Theistic Evolution, is that it is considered to contradict
itself, choosing to interpret only some portions of the Bible literally. The problem is that Christians
with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with
the Bible and Christian religion. While the book of Genesis states that God created the Earth before
the Sun and the Moon, people of the Evolutionist belief say the opposite, claiming that the Sun and
the Moon came before the Earth (Mortenson).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One issue, is that if Christians believe that God rested after the six day creation of the Earth, when
do people that believe in Theistic Evolution believe He rested? Evolution is an ongoing process,
therefore, there has been no time for rest. Theistic Evolutionists are therefore discrediting Genesis
and the Word of God (Stewart). Theistic Evolution also contradicts the Creation of Adam. The
book of Genesis says that God created Man from the dust. God created Adam, a full human. He did
not create a sub human or anything else that developed into Adam, He just created Adam. Theistic
Evolution claims that man developed by evolving from a prior

Management Functions The four functions of management are generally described in this order; 1.
Planning 2. Organizing 3. Leading 4. Controlling These functions are affected by factors from
inside an organization as well as outside of the organization (Bateman, 2011). Some of these
external factors include globalization, competitors, suppliers, technology, customers, the

Effects Of Domoic Acid Toxicosis
Domoic Acid Toxicosis Toxic Algae Poisoning in California Sea Lions

Introduction
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) which were once a rarity in marine ecosystems are now reoccurring
events that devastate recreational areas to deep water ecosystems (Anderson et al., 2016).
Specifically for California sea lions (CSLs), HABs through bioaccumulation lead to domoic acid
(DA) poisoning. Domoic Acid is naturally occurring in algal blooms; however, due to
anthropogenic influences and climate change, the population of algal blooms that contain DA are
increasing (Cook et al., 2016).
With thousands of CSLs and entire marine ecosystems facing the effects of DA poisoning,
veterinary technicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Epidemiology:
CSLs showing signs of DA poisoning at the Marine Mammal Center were sedated and studied
using MRI. Neuro radiologists viewed 34 brain scans taken and noted abnormalities in brain
structure. The severity of brain damage took into account the type of brain damage the mammal
was exhibiting: hippocampal atrophy, temporal horn enlargement, and parahippocampal atrophy,
in addition to the severity of each (Thomas, 2010). From this information, calculations were made
to create a brain damage index (BDI) for CSLs. The study showed 12 had an acute case of DA
poisoning, and 22 had chronic DA poisoning (Thomas, 2010). During a harmful algal bloom in
2014 near the Monterey Bay region, of all the CSLs that were rescued and studied, 41% showed
signs of having DA poisoning ranging from mild to severe (Anderson et al., 2016).
Detecting the movement of DA up the food chain is a challenge. Models are currently used to
predict the number of animals affected by DA. These numbers depend heavily on being able to
track and study the animals as they move to different locations. How long an animal was in an
area of HABs and what that animal ate create a barrier in identifying how many animals have been
affected and to what degree. (Lefebvre et al., 2016)
Clinical Presentation Diagnosis: Most CSLs affected by DA show signs of being disoriented. They
often become stranded on shore and sometimes in

Implicit Gender Bias Essay
Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields
Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after
considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at
work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as
unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include
socio economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley,
Payne Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a
conscious level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions
and decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often
operate at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these,
implicit gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages
women economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the
scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can
disadvantage women pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham
Handelsman, 2012). The importance of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit
gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields

Comparing John Smith And William Bradford s Of Plymouth...
When in comes to first hand experiences with the New Word, John Smith and William Bradford
have a good idea of what it is like. Although both men are very different, they have some
similarities. The short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew
s experiences with the New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William
Bradford does. While these short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new
world, they are not exactly the same nor are they much different from each other. John Smith came
to the New World and landed in Jamestown for one particular reason, for tobacco. Had we been as
free from all sins as gluttony and drunkenness we might have been canonized for saints, but our

The Pilgrims were puritans who came to the New World for religious freedom because they
were being persecuted. Coming to the New World was tough to manage, but their faith in God
helped them get through it all step by step. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their
knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean...
(Bradford 78). This just shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed
that if they kept their faith, that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they
had was that John Smith s story was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person.
John Smith used a handful of adjectives to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the
Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his
story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. This is a
minor difference, but it is significant because it shows different point of

Parallels In Our World and the World of The Giver
The story in The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place in a community that is not normal. People
cannot see color, it is an offense for somebody to touch others, and the community assigns people
jobs and children. This unnamed community shown through Jonas eye, the main character in this
novel, is a perfect society. There is no war, crime, and hunger. Most readers might take it for
granted that the community in The Giver differs from the real society. However, there are several
affinities between the society in present day and that in this fiction: estrangement of elderly people,
suffering of surrogate mothers, and wanting of euthanasia.
The first similarity is that elderly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that they are Laborers for the rest of their adult lives, until the day that they enter the House of
the Old... The Birthmothers never even get to see new children (p. 22). Today, some women
decide to become surrogate mothers of other women s babies because of several reasons, such as
sympathy for the couples who cannot have children of their own or financial reason. However, to
carry other women s children gives surrogate moms great senses of responsibility. They writhe in
not only soreness of body, but also agony of mentality. The psychological pain by giving their
babies to other women is greater than that of body. Thus, some surrogate mothers refuse to give up
their babies sometimes.
The third similarity is that some people want to embrace euthanasia in any society. Here is the
release in the community. The release is not a natural death, but the end of life by human being.
Nevertheless, some people want to be released from the community. He made a lovely good bye

To Kill A Mockingbird Good Vs Evil Essay
To Kill a Mockingbird
The conflict between good and evil is very common, even in day to day life. It is impossible for
pure good and pure evil to coexist, and this is apparent in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
In this book, we see a racist town of Maycomb in the mid 1900 s react to injustice through the eyes
of Scout Finch, a young girl with brother Jem and caring father, Atticus. While young, we see the
children of Atticus Finch grow and mature through his teachings and good morals, as well as see
them experience and witness the good and evil in their townsfolk. Through characterization and
figurative language, the author develops a theme of good vs. evil. Lee uses characters Boo Radley
Bob Ewell to convey the idea that the conflicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characters like Bob Ewell make this possible. Bob Ewell represents the pure evil in the town,
and is presented in such a way that makes it quite obvious. Mr. Ewell is the character that kills
mockingbirds, or destroys people s innocence. Atticus describes him early in the book, saying:
..and it s certainly bad, but when a man spends his relief checks on green whiskey his children
have a way of crying from hunger pains. (41). Not only is Bob Ewell a drunk, selfish and
abusive father, but he is also inherently evil in the way he destroys his children s innocence by
being neglectful, but also Tom Robinson s innocence. His racist way of accusing Tom of rape
sends him to a death sentence, when Tom in a desperate last effort to be freed gets shot. Atticus
describes Tom s attempted escape as: I guess Tom was tired of white men s chances and
preferred to take his own. (315). Tom, as readers briefly got to know, was not the type of man to
desperately escape. He was hopeless and could see no other options, as white men s chances was
a sure death sentence. In this case, Bob had literally killed an innocent man for no other reason
than his own selfish, evil desires. Once again, we see that pure good and pure evil cannot coexist,
and results in the loss of

Factors Affecting The Palm Tree Trimming Services
Factors to consider during palm tree trimming and the best time to do that
Description: Wondering when to take up palm tree trimming? There is no fixed time of trimming
but whenever you feel the need, call up professionals for help.
Specialized companies all across the globe offer professional tree trimming services. In fact, no one
likes to cut or trim a fully grown, beautiful palm tree. But then, it becomes necessary most of the
times. If the tree is overgrown, it may impede the appearance of your lawn. It can also intervene
with the utility lines. The roots of the palm tree may get through the main foundation and the very
structure of your home. Thus, there are number of reasons for taking palm tree removal and palm
tree trimming services. Before you trim the palm tree, various factors need to be considered. To let
the trees grow in a healthy manner, trimming is essential. The kind of tree you are trimming, the
condition of the tree matters when you are undertaking tree trimming. There is no particular season
for tree pruning and this activity may be taken anytime you feel the need.
Do you really need the tree trimming and removal?
When you consider tree trimming, you need to take into account whether the pruning is at all
required or not. If the tree is posing a threat to your home foundation and is spreading too much,
trimming must be undertaken. On the other hand, if the tree is diseased, posing a threat to the lives
of other trees, remove that tree from the site.

How To Write A Photo Analysis Essay
The weak fall, but the strong will remain and never go under, stated by Anne Frank. I settle on

websites of displayed images but had no information about it. A majority of people ponder about
photographs when examined and have their own perspectives about them. In the photo that I have

who need happiness.

This photo looks as if the young girl is offering the young boy help by giving him a balloon and the
benefit from the help given is receiving happiness. Although, the photo illustrates more than just
the simple fact of giving and receiving. The photo shows the opportunity to help the ones in
desperate need. This photo works as a powerful representation of individuals in need. The young
girl has all the opportunities in life to do what she wants and still gives her time to help the young
boy. That is shown by the illustration of the young girl offering the young boy a balloon.
Everyone needs a helping hand at a certain time in their life. Most importantly not everyone knows
what people go through but the best option is to offer support whether or not they will accept it. In
addition, the worse act that can be given is to ignore someone, and that certain someone can only
learn from the action of rejection. This thought is invoked because in the photo it is shown that the
young boy does not accept the balloon that is given to him by the young

The Learning ( Or Behaviourist ) Approach
The learning (or behaviourist) approach, at its core, is about how experience affects our behaviour
and how we learn behaviours. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and
we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the
observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal
workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable
behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based
off the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely
with the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works... Show more content on

The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned
stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the
environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned,
yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned
stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response
(i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned
stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the
conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not
always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not
need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the
conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can
produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects;
as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the

Argumentative Essay On Airport Security
Where you normally hail a taxi, that is where the attack happened. The ground is just kind of

I have chosen 300 Violin Orchestra by Jorge Quintero. As a child, my mother would play
classical music for me because the doctor recommended it. Recently I read studies that brought
to light the capability of focusing and recapturing what has been studied could be better done if
the student listened to wordless songs i.e. classical music, while studying. When I gave it a try I
realized my focus increased and just stuck to it. The song mentioned above represents me in such
way that I had previously listened to classical and when I reconnected to it for school purposes I
realized I had found my home in music. I chose that specific song because although it includes
violin it provides this sense of modernity and really enlightens my mood.

Essay on Beautiful by Christina Aguilera
I am beautiful no matter what they say
words can t bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
yes, words can t bring me down
so don t you bring me down today
Christina Aguilera
What exactly does Christina Aguilera try to convey? According to her words along with personal
interviews of the true meaning of this stanza in her song, Beautiful, Christina Aguilera approaches
the reader and listener with her profound emotions. She perceives that through immense pressure
and criticism, she is still beautiful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, her tone is encouraging to herself and those who receive a personal meaning from it.
Her tone leads us to her message, which is that Christina Aguilera is, indeed, satisfied with
herself and everything she is. She explains that despite whatever anyone says, she will not be
discouraged in any means. She wants the reader and listener to comprehend that she doesn t need
anyone to dishearten her of what exactly she is. She expresses to the reader and listener that she,
herself will not be stressed by others negative disapproval. Her purpose is to basically state that she
is who she is and no one will change that and addresses someone that there opinion would not
matter, regardless.
Analyzing the word, beautiful in this stanza, one should perceive that she is not actually singing
about the outside of her, but what she consists of emotionally and mentally on the inside. She
reveals that her thoughts and emotions are of worth and value and they are of her opinion. They
are consumed through her, and no one else and if anyone disagrees, she does not take that into
affect. Her diction is actually pretty precise. To quote a famous clichГ©, beauty is not skin deep.
She explains that the beauty is the sentiment.
Comprehending her lyrics, one may perceive from the understanding that her intended audience is
actually anyone who may be feeling the same way as her and the effect in which she wishes to
have upon them is to be like her in the

Brady Vs. Maryland Case
Brady Vs Maryland
Brady vs. Maryland was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the prosecution had
withheld from the criminal defendant certain evidence. The defendant faced his conviction, arguing
it had been contrary to the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States
Constitution.
Maryland prosecuted Brady and a companion, Boblit, for murder. Brady admitted being involved in
the murder, but claimed Boblit had done the actual killing. The prosecution had withheld a written
statement by Boblit admitting that he had committed the act of killing by himself. The Maryland
Court of Appeals had confirmed the conviction and remanded the case for a retrial only on the
question of punishment. The Supreme Court held that withholding exculpatory evidence violates
due process where the evidence is material either to guilt or to punishment ; and the court
determined that under Maryland state law the withheld evidence couldn t have exculpated the
defendant but was material to the level of punishment he would be given. Hence the Maryland
Court of Appeals ruling was confirmed. A defendant s request for Brady disclosure refers to the
holding of the Brady case, and the various state and federal cases that interpret its obligation that
the prosecution discloses material exculpatory evidence to the defense. Exculpatory evidence is a
reasonable probability that his conviction or sentence would have been different had these materials
been disclosed.

Cruel Optimism Analysis
The writer may suggest that one should not focus their attention on the topic of abortion, but rather
live life to the fullest. The author mentioned cruel optimism as an ideology that people intend to
achieve in order to become happy in the society. The writer quotes
Cruel optimism names a relation of attachment to compromised conditions of possibility whose
realization is discovered either to be impossible, sheer fantasy, or too possible, and toxic. What s
cruel about these attachments, and not merely inconvenient or tragic, is that the subjects who have
x in their lives might not well endure the loss of their object or scene of desire, even though its
presence threatens their well being; because whatever the content of the attachment is, the
continuity of the form of it provides something of the continuity of the subject s sense of what it
means to keep on living on and to look forward to being in the world (94). The author may argue
that in the society, some human beings may experience cruel optimism, in the sense that if the

It would on the other hand, be untrue to suggest that Lenin did not wished to take power. He
certainly did, but only till a worker s state was created, where individuals would contribute to the
best of their ability and the profits would be distrubuted according to need. Lenin s life time has
not allowed this to happen and with Stalin in power this was not possible. So, although it needs
imagination to say that Lenin was bloodthirsty and ruthless it is clear and not deniable that
wanted power and therefore he had the control of most things . This is to say he was the top
man , next came the seven members of the Polikburo than the Central Committies with 40
people, than the Party Congress, followed by the party with 8000 members, the Soviets which
would lead itself to the working class which finally ended with the whole of society. Looking at
this system, it may be suggested that Lenin basically controlled the society, all by himself,
however if looked at in long term this wasn t true, as Lenin s aim was to create a classless and a
society where no leader would be necessary. Nevertheless, it can not be declined that during Lenin
s time a lot of terror and cruelty took place, although not directly under his command. This terror

Garmin is a global supplier of Global Positioning Systems. The company targets primarily the
aviation, maritime and fitness industry. Garmin is the current leader in the GPS market boasting
the highest equity and lowest debt in the industry. For Garmin to merge with another company, it
would have to provide significant long term synergy or allow expansion into a new market entirely.
A merger between Garmin and Trimble Navigation would benefit both companies and their
shareholders.

If Garmin watched this company closely it could provide an opportunity to gain a significant
portion of the overseas Personal Navigation Device (PND) market. This is currently the only
sector Trimble beats Garmin at a 34% to 47% ratio, and has for the past seven years. This merger
would also require detailed consideration as it would require international equities to be merged
along with significant human and financial resources.
Conclusion
Garmin stands to gain from a merger with Trimble. The merger would allow Garmin to acquire a
significant portion of the European personal navigation device market share at minimal cost.
Garmin has the cash resources to execute the acquisition and while Trimble s finances are in
decline for the near term they are expected to remain a solid long term investment. The acquisition
would result in an approximate $13 dollar increase in Garmin s stock price, and increase long term
equities. Other companies Garmin should consider are KVL Technologies for its opportunity to get
ahead of maritime mobile communications technologies, and Roper Industries, which would enable
expansion into a new market segment that hedges future losses in the PND market.

Why The Slave Is The Fourth Of September By Frederick...
On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing
society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address,
Douglass points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the
way in which American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences,
friendships, and observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the
participation of blacks in American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many
voices within the abolitionist movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the
blatant contradictions between the words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized
groups were treated by most of the ruling white male population, he was by no means against the
principles outlined within the Declaration of Independence or the United Statesas a nation. Douglass
s thought was very much an olive branch between the ruling white class and the enslaved and
disenfranchised black population. His self made story, inspiring influences, and determination to
promote American freedom amongst the many evil aspects in the country he lived in made him one
of the most important intellectual figures in the road to abolishing slavery.
Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland in 1818 to a black slave
mother and a white father whom he did not know. From his early days, he was able

Essay on Surrogate Motherhood
Surrogate Motherhood is something that not many people actually support, even though it is one
of the many reproductive techniques that have enabled infertile couples to have children (qtd. in
Freedman). There are two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. The traditional type of
surrogacy involves the surrogate mother being (AI) artificially inseminated with the sperm of the
intended father or sperm from a donor when the sperm count is low. In either case the surrogate s
own egg will be used. Genetically the surrogate becomes the mother of the resulting child (Storey).

most infertility clinics require a contract. Legal counsel is recommended in order that all involved,
to ensure that local laws are kept in compliance (Storey). There are already a significant amount of
states that already demand contracts amongst both parties. Signing that contract gives the biological
parents legal rights and custody to that child from the moment that it is born:
Some states require a contract among all parties to the surrogacy birthing arrangement, and there are
often requirements that the contract address certain issues. However, good practice requires that a

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Introducing...
The euro was introduced as a single currency as it offered many advantages over the previous
situation where each European country had its own currency. One of the main objectives of
introducing the euro was to strengthen relations between member states. The idea, rather a simple
one, if you get countries to trade with each other then they are a lot less likely to go to war. It
seems a legitimate reason, as Western Europe has been at peace now for nearly seventy years and
counting.
To explain a little more about the history of introducing the euro, throughout the 1960s on to the
1980s the EEC helped break down cultural barriers between European countries. This resulted in a

One downside is that the interest rates set by the ECB may not be suitable for the whole Eurozone.
It may be unsuitable for countries that are growing much faster or slower than the Eurozone
average. In, 2011, the ECB increased inflation rates because of fears of inflation in Germany,
however during the same time, southern Eurozone countries were heading for recession because
the interest rates set were unsuitable for countries such as Portugal Greece and Italy.
There is also a lack of incentives being apart of the Eurozone as it is argued being a member
protects a country form currency crisis. Therefore, there is less of an incentive for countries to
implement structural reform and fiscal responsibility. For example, in good times Greece was
able to benefit from very low bond yields on its debt because people thought that the Greek debt
would be taken and secured by the rest of Europe, but this wasn t the case and Greece fell victim
to a false sense of security.
Also the Eurozone is not an optimal currency area due to language barriers. For example if a
state in the New York was facing a recession workers could easily move to New England to get a
job, however in the Eurozone this is much more difficult. There are a lot more barriers to the
movement of labour and capital in Europe. An unemployed Greek cannot easily move to

A patent is a twenty year exclusive monopoly on the right to make, use and sell a qualifying

Battle Of Belle Wood Essay
The Battle of Belleau Wood is significant in Marine Corps history because it spawned its most
notable nickname The Devil Dogs . It was the Germans who gave them this name because of
their fighting strength and it also produced some of the most famous quotes in history. During
World War 1 Germany occupied France in Belleau Wood which is located near the Marne River.
In March 1918, nearly 50 additional German divisions were sent to France or the Western Front
after the surrender of the Russians on the Eastern Front. (History com, pg.3). They hoped to defeat
the allies before reinforcements could be sent. The British Fifth Army was virtually destroyed and
German forces reached had some North Bank near the Marne River near the end of May 1918....

They fought off nearly five divisions of German troops; often reduced to bayonet fighting or
even using their fists in hand to hand combat. On June 26th, a report was sent out stating quite
simply Woods now US Marine Corps entirely. This battle was one of the most ferocious and
bloodiest battle of World War 1. The US suffered a total of 9,777 injuries of these, 1,811 were
deaths. Many were buried in the nearby American cemetery. There is no conclusive number of
German casualties; although 1,600 Germans were taken prisoner. (History.com, pg.6). After the
battle the French renamed the wood of Wood ofthe Marine brigade and a special German report
also states that the Marines were vigorous self confident and remarkable marksman. A US Army
General also stated that the deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle. A common
nickname of the US Marines is Devil Dogs. Although the history is unclear of when or what
exactly was said by the Germans is generally accepted that the Germans did give them the
nickname Teufelshund as a loose translation this comes out dogs from hell. Some believe that the
name comes from a diary of a German soldier killed in battle. In his diary,

Surviving Species Environments
When you think of survival of the fittest, you may be wrong. If you think about it as more of
survival of the best adapted to a species environment. Now this can be used with a few following
examples; a species will not be able to survive if it is the strongest of its kind if the area it lives
in is cold. The specimen with the warm fur coat will outlast the physically strong. Now this can
work the other way as well the specimen with the fur coat may not be able to defend its self from
the predators if it is not the most physically fit specimen. The end result if the speciesdoes not adapt
to the new surroundings it will eventually die out and become extinct, leaving the one specimen
who has now passed on the fur coat to survive in the cold

Gods of the Hawaiians Essay
The Hawaiian Islands are well known for their beauty, tranquility, and unique culture that have
shaped this state into what we see today. The special bond that the natives have formed between
themselves and nature is not exactly one of a kind, but it is something that can truly be admired.
Around approximately 300 AD, Hawaiiwas discovered by Polynesians who arrived by canoe from
Tahiti. These migrants brought their polytheistic spirituality and formed a large intricate society
with hierarchies consisting of many chiefs. Alongside the ruling of the chiefs, the newborn
Hawaiians followed a strict belief system known as Kapu akua otherwise known as the law of the
gods . The Kapu was a strict set of rules and restraints that dictated all... Show more content on

The strict Kapu made everyday Hawaiian life extremely difficult to live. Offenders were often
punished severely with either corporal punishment or sacrificed to honor the gods. If the offense
was great enough, on occasion, the family of the offender was also sentenced to death.
Although, punishment to defectors was harsh, they often had a chance to redeem themselves. It
is said that those who offended could flee to a city of refuge where they had a ritual performed
by shamans in order to clean oneself of sin and escape death. Ancient Hawaiians worshipped
many gods and demi gods. The main god known as Kane, represented life and nature while Ku,
represented death and war. According to the Kumuhonua Legend: he [Kane] formed the three
worlds: the upper heaven of the gods, the lower heaven above the earth and the earth itself as a
garden for mankind; the latter he furnished with sea creatures, plants, and animals and fashioned
men and women to inhabit it (Beckwith). It was believed that each family had its own personal
god to protect them. Personal gods were thought to live vicariously through the animals that
surrounded the islands such as the shark or pig. Through these very same animals, it was also
believed that families could communicate with the spirits of the deceased. Many temples known as
Heiaus as well as other methods were created in order to worship the

And what difference does it make that the courts have ruled as they have? To Gov. Jeb Bush and
the lawmakers who insist that they know better, the answers to those questions apparently are
nothing and none, respectively. Bush and his allies have helped unleash an army of well
intended do gooders who are praying, protesting, sobbing and e mailing in, in their minds, Terri
Schiavo s behalf. Just as those frightened New Yorkers killed cats by the tens of thousands 89
years ago, Terri s army today is acting from a basis of fear, not fact. The most outrageous
falsehood in this tragedy is the accusation that Michael Schiavo, Terri s husband, and the courts

Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape from it. In The
Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood goes through the awful
troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953
and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having
won an internship in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further
into a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict, and
symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning thoughts that
plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose hope. To begin with, Sylvia
Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do
with herself after not getting accepted into the writing program of her dreams, which is also
when she starts falling into her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness
is [Esther s] reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal (Grocott,
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she wants to do with her
life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig as a husband and a happy home and
children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath
Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants
all of them, but she realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest. Esther appears
bewildered because she doesn t know what life choice to make. The hardships that Esther is
enduring appears to be too much for her to handle. Secondly, Sylvia Plath strongly utilizes a
beating heart as a metaphor to disclose how Esther just can t find the will to succumb to her
depression. When decides to go to the beach on a double date, the thought of drowning herself
profoundly crossed her mind. As she was swimming in the ocean she thought: that drowning must
be the kindest way to die...but as I paddled on, my heartbeat boomed like a dull motor in my ears, I
am, I am, I am (Plath 157 158). It

Literary Techniques In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
Cormac McCarthy s The Road is a post apocalyptic novel that uses a literary style that most
authors do not dare to use when writing. McCarthy s style is very mysterious, given that he doesn
t give the main character s names at any point and his use of grammar is unorthodox. The lack of
quotation marks when characters are speaking adds a certain wispy quality to the book. McCarthy
s technique unquestionably enhances the book s eerie aura; post apocalyptic novels can often be
overdone or predictable, but The Roadwas not.
The story is about a man and his young son traveling on a road after firestorms have scourged the
land, destroying civilization. McCarthy does an exceptional job of showing their fight for survival
as they struggle to find

Thank You For Smoking Ethical Quotes
True success can only be achieved should one be able to accept their way of life despite the
views and criticism of others. In the novel Thank You For Smoking written by Christopher
Buckley, the novel centers around Nick Naylor, a spokesman for a tobacco company, infamous
for his unethical methods in the way he performs. As ruthless as he seems, however, it is due to
this type of character that Naylor is able to come out on top and become the successful man he is
today. Using Nick Naylor, Buckley demonstrates how humans are able to achieve the success they
desire, but only if they are able to act on their own accord to do so. By following through decisions

Using Nick Naylor, Buckley shows how ones character does not define their chances of success,
but is rather based on the actions they take in order to do so by using that character. Despite the

Genetic Abnormalities in Ancient Egyptian Royal Families
Genetic Abnormalities in Ancient Egyptian Royal Families
It seems that throughout history, the words royalty and incest have gone hand in hand. Familial
interbreeding occurred throughout a significant number of royal lines, including the British,
Hawaiian, and Japanese thrones. However, none of these families, nor any other royal family for
that matter, can match the profound rate at which the Egyptians practiced incest. Ancient Egyptian
royal marriages were almost exclusively restricted to relatives, with very few exceptions. This
practice originated from the belief that in many cases, Gods bred with their sisters or brothers, and
since royals were the direct descendents of the Gods, they must practice incest as well. Since the ...

It does not seem that we need to spend much time on the question of whether Kleopatra, a kind of
Ptolemaic bad seed, actually inherited a concentrated set of chromosomes genetically programming
her to murder her siblings.
Ager does in fact have a strong point. There is no way to definitively say whether or not
somebody had mental disease that far back into history and whether or not the proposed
compromised mental capacity was in fact caused by a genetic default caused by incestuous
inheritance. An important point Ager also makes is that even though significant inbreeding would
seem likely to produce some sort of genetic compromise, one cannot assume that this is definitely
the case. The social taboo of present times would automatically believe that this is an inevitable
consequence of these matings, but likely is not the same as inevitable . Combinations of genetic
material are random, not determined by a genetically (or divinely) mandated programme of
punishment for offenders against the taboo (Ager 10). Another important topic that must be
discussed in this debate of gene abnormalities is the very famous case of King Tutankhamen. His
mummy was discovered nearly a century ago and his young rise to the throne and premature death
has both fascinated and puzzled scholars for decades. Only in the last five years have scientists and

Fragoria Review: Old But Gold
Browser MMORPGs in the mold of old favorites like Diablo and Runescape are a rarity, but
Fragoria seeks to change this. In a nutshell, Fragoria dives you deep into another fantasy world,

Fragoria looks like a mid 2000s RPG, yet this is where its appeal lies.

Gay Porn And Pornography
Pornography as an industry that has the ability to shape and mold pre teen and young adult lives.
Queer porn exists as a fetish, arguably for heterosexual individuals more so than homosexual
individuals. Pornography serves as a mechanism for learning about sex and sexual acts for almost
all individuals trying to figure out their bodies, but what does this industry actually promote? Gay
pornography, as a focus, has formational ties to dominance, the socially constructed closet, and
queer death as a whole. Porn exists as a pleasure system that suffices to satisfy sexual proclivities.
To get to the root of how porn creates the want for dominance, we also must consider the
differences that exists between gay porn and lesbian porn. Lesbian... Show more content on

Bersani also speaks about how ...the moral taboo on passive anal sex and how to be penetrated
is equal to relinquishing power. The power dynamic that is projected through gay porn also
serves as anti female propaganda. The submissive party is usually portrayed as weak, having no
control, and the sexual acts are more likely to be seen as being forced upon this individual. From
a heterosexual standpoint, the woman is the submissive party. In today s society, a woman is
arguably the worst thing someone can be, so when submissiveness is connected to the insertee,
one may tend to link that to femininity; the worst thing one can have, assuming femininity is
linked to womenhood. While pornography works as a pleasure system, it can also work as a
means of support for individuals who are not open with their sexuality. The closet is a socially
constructed safety net that protects queer individuals. Positive queer representation in the media is
almost non existent, but pornography allows queer individuals to see themselves on a national
platform. When queer characters are incorporated in books and on the screen, they usually have
tragedy connected to them. In a way, because of this, porn can be seen as liberating; it is a
platform that embraces homosexuality and doesn t conclude with queer death or disaster. No, gay
pornography is not the saving grace in terms of queer representation, but as discussed in The
Celluloid

Wonder Sociological Concepts
Wonder One of my favorite movies is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is based off of the
inspiration to never judge anyone by their appearance, to stand up for yourself and to not give
into bullying. The main character, Auggie Pullman, is a smart 10 year old boy with a facial
deformity, who experiences the first time going to a public school. The first important value in
Wonder is to never judge anyone by their appearance. Auggie s schedule in the past 10 years,
consisted of being homeschooled by his mom, Isabel. Auggie conquered the survival of a car
accident, which made Auggie encounter numerous surgeries to correct his face. His surgeries
concluded the way he looked. His left eye tugs downward as if a teardrop were falling from it; his...

Bullying often leaves kids feeling helpless, vulnerable, and confused. Consequently, when kids
are bullies they are often shocked by bullying that they are not sure what to do (Gordon, n.d.).
Society, unfortunately, has become more focused on the bullies rather than the victims. Judging
someone by their looks is NOT okay. How can you judge someone when you do not even know
the person? It is from my personal experience, that people are nicer to the rich or middle class
whereas others frown upon poor people. Many people make the generalization that poor people
take advantage of the state benefits that are offered, which is not true. Beauty is not in the face;
beauty is a light in the heart. There is not a single profile of a young person involved in bullying.
Youth who bully can be either will connected socially and may be bullied by others as well.
Similarly, those who are bullied sometimes bully others. Solutions to bullying are not simple.
Bullying Prevention approaches that show the most promise confront the problem from many
angles (Government, n.d.). Take the time to get to know someone before you judge or bully
them. Every single person is subject to life, not suicide. Each of us are special in our own ways to

The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment
The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by
Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to
study how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved
hurting another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to
authority as this was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War
II. 40 males were chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The
experiment was carried out as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they
were all actors the pairs drew straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who
would be acting as a teacher. This part of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing
participants would always be the teacher the pairs were split up into seperate rooms where the
learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has already learned a list of word pairs that
were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a word and asking the learner to recall
its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time the learned made a mistake.
There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The teacher did not
know, but the shocks were not actually administered. The learner made mistakes on purpose, and
faked harm when they were electrocuted . If the teacher did not want to

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a
pig after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of
civilization, order and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or
society. In the writing of William Goldings Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and
civilizationis the conch. Once that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are
talking about what has happened and why they are on this island. While walking on the beach,
the main character Ralph then proceeds to find a shell which the two boys call the conch.
Blowing on this shell Ralph calls a meeting where the boys lay out rules and decide they need a
signal fire to be rescued from this island on which there are no adults and no females. During the
meeting Jack, a choir boy, decides to organize a group of hunters to hunt for food. As the story
progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the lord of the flies begins to
emerge within the group, many of whom begin to take on savage behavior, and end up killing
Simon. Jack then decides to go and start his own tribe; he and a lot of the others do so. Even as
the conflict increases between the two rivals, there is ongoing respect for the conch. The same
savages later killthe character Piggy who was not doing anything to them except trying to get his
glasses back that were stolen to make the fire. Then they try to kill

  • 2. Factors That Implement Our Way Of Thinking Many factors implement our way of thinking, but some tend to be more important than others. Age is a factor, depending on your age often determines how serious you are and what your needs are. For instance, being an adolescent you are going through stages of puberty and forming into an adult. Your needs then tend to be impacted by your peers at school, and what is cool. Most adolescents seek intimacy, communication, empathy and identity, your needs will definitely be different than a thirty five year old seeking a marriage partner. All through history, the picture of a beautiful lady, and an attractive man, has fluctuated. Perceptions of beauty do not only vary by culture but have also evolved throughout time.In Ancient Egypt around 1292 1069 B.C., the ideal women had narrow shoulders, a high waist, symmetrical face, and was thin. Throughout Ancient Egypt the society back then was considered a sex positive setting, where pre marital sex took place and was considered adequate. Old Greeks considered women beautiful, if they had a full rounded shape, full bodied, and had light skin. The Han Dynasty (206 B.C. 220 A.D.) women in this culture were viewed as perfect in the event that they had expansive eyes, fair skin, small feet and a little midriff. Likewise, long dark hair, white teeth, and red lips. Throughout the time of the Italian Renaissance, women were viewed beautiful if they had full hips, fair skin, a rounded stomach and an apple blossom, as well as light hair. ... This Historical Study Will Define The Dual Hostility Of This historical study will define the dual hostility of the Soviet Union and the United States in the instigation and resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The nuclear arms race of the early 1960s defined a period of history in which a stalemate occurred between superpowers. The United States and the Soviet Union were continually seeking to build larger nuclear arsenals and to also expand their territorial influence over lesser nations. The Cuban Missile Crisis defines also defines the minor role of Cuba that served to facilitate the expansion of communist influence on the eastern seaboard to the United States. It assumed the use of multiple and powerful nuclear weapons by both sides in the Cold War, resulting in reciprocal total annihilation. This strategic perspective defined the logical outcome of a nuclear war between two major powers, which would result in the destruction of both sides of the conflict. Therefore, the U.S. and the Soviets would lose in the case of a nuclear war, which laid the foundation for the Cold War and the political conflicts that followed. This aspect of a cold war defines the ideological expansion of communism and capitalist ideology, which would now compete for world domination. By not being able to actually initiate a hot war between the two superpowers, it became apparent that clandestine spy networks and the movement of nuclear arsenals would set the stage for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The Soviet Union played an important role in bringing nuclear missiles to Castro s Cuba in 1962, but it should also be mentioned in the context of the overreaching Cold War with the United States. In a broader context of the Cold War, the United States has presaged the Cuban Missile Crisis by President Kennedy s placement of nuclear missiles on the border of Turkey and Italy, which was perceived as a threat by Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev,. These events took place in 1961, which could be perceived as a cause for the movement of nuclear missiles by the Soviets to Cuba in 1962. Kubrick relies on editing and sound design to aid the horrifying and creepy feel that was made in the in the movie. All throughout the movie, the unique sound design and strong editing techniques create many diverse effects on the viewer, however the most evident effect created a sense of fear and suspense. One scene specifically emerges as a skillfully edited part in the movie. In this scene, Wendy and Danny Torrance leave the hotel to walk through the hedge maze. Wendy and Danny both wandered around inside the massive maze. The scene then cuts to a shot of Jack walking up to a model of the maze that is in the lobby. The scene then cuts to a close up of the model of the maze. Tiny versions of Wendy and Danny are shown walking through the maze. The Jack and the viewer can hear Wendy and Danny talking even though he is not with them. This helps the allusion that Jack is viewing them experience the maze. As the scene proceeds, it cuts to clips of Wendy and Danny walking in the actual maze. The maze scene is a case of parallel editing. • 8. Controversy Between Theistic Evolution And Religion As Francis Collins stated, Theistic Evolution is the belief that evolution is real, but that it was set in motion by God (Collins). Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution, and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation included Evolution. People with this belief argue that Evolution is a part of God s Plan. Instead of interpreting the Bible literally, people of Theistic Evolution belief believe that the Bible should be interpreted loosely, taking only certain amounts the Bible for truth. Theistic Evolution accepts all scientific discoveries, or theories, such as the Big Bang, Evolution, and that the world began millions of years ago. The controversy with Theistic Evolution, is that it is considered to contradict itself, choosing to interpret only some portions of the Bible literally. The problem is that Christians with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with the Bible and Christian religion. Theistic Evolution also contradicts the Creation of Adam. The book of Genesis says that God created Man from the dust. God created Adam, a full human. He did not create a sub human or anything else that developed into Adam, He just created Adam. Theistic Evolution claims that man developed by evolving from a prior ... In the respect of Google the newly designed technology made it much easier and made sense that the best way to grow would to become global. The globalization occurred 2000 when they released the ability to search in ten other languages making Google a common word in many other countries besides the U.S. The rate of growth Google experienced is truly astonishing. Google went from an eight employee firm in 1999 to well over a 1000 employees today. An example of the well managed leadership from the company is the way they have so intuitively diversified. • 10. Effects Of Domoic Acid Toxicosis Domoic Acid Toxicosis Toxic Algae Poisoning in California Sea Lions Jasmine Bagha AHS F050A 08/04/17 Introduction Harmful algal blooms (HABs) which were once a rarity in marine ecosystems are now reoccurring events that devastate recreational areas to deep water ecosystems (Anderson et al., 2016). Specifically for California sea lions (CSLs), HABs through bioaccumulation lead to domoic acid (DA) poisoning. Domoic Acid is naturally occurring in algal blooms; however, due to anthropogenic influences and climate change, the population of algal blooms that contain DA are increasing (Cook et al., 2016). With thousands of CSLs and entire marine ecosystems facing the effects of DA poisoning, veterinary technicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Epidemiology: CSLs showing signs of DA poisoning at the Marine Mammal Center were sedated and studied using MRI. Neuro radiologists viewed 34 brain scans taken and noted abnormalities in brain structure. The severity of brain damage took into account the type of brain damage the mammal was exhibiting: hippocampal atrophy, temporal horn enlargement, and parahippocampal atrophy, in addition to the severity of each (Thomas, 2010). From this information, calculations were made to create a brain damage index (BDI) for CSLs. The study showed 12 had an acute case of DA poisoning, and 22 had chronic DA poisoning (Thomas, 2010). During a harmful algal bloom in 2014 near the Monterey Bay region, of all the CSLs that were rescued and studied, 41% showed signs of having DA poisoning ranging from mild to severe (Anderson et al., 2016). Detecting the movement of DA up the food chain is a challenge. Models are currently used to predict the number of animals affected by DA. These numbers depend heavily on being able to track and study the animals as they move to different locations. How long an animal was in an area of HABs and what that animal ate create a barrier in identifying how many animals have been affected and to what degree. (Lefebvre et al., 2016) Clinical Presentation Diagnosis: Most CSLs affected by DA show signs of being disoriented. They often become stranded on shore and sometimes in ... • 11. Implicit Gender Bias Essay Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include socio economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley, Payne Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a conscious level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often operate at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these, implicit gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages women economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can disadvantage women pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham Handelsman, 2012). The importance of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields will ... • 12. Comparing John Smith And William Bradford s Of Plymouth... When in comes to first hand experiences with the New Word, John Smith and William Bradford have a good idea of what it is like. Although both men are very different, they have some similarities. The short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew s experiences with the New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford does. While these short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new world, they are not exactly the same nor are they much different from each other. John Smith came to the New World and landed in Jamestown for one particular reason, for tobacco. Coming to the New World was tough to manage, but their faith in God helped them get through it all step by step. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean... (Bradford 78). This just shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed that if they kept their faith, that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they had was that John Smith s story was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person. John Smith used a handful of adjectives to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. This is a minor difference, but it is significant because it shows different point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parallels In Our World and the World of The Giver The story in The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place in a community that is not normal. People cannot see color, it is an offense for somebody to touch others, and the community assigns people jobs and children. This unnamed community shown through Jonas eye, the main character in this novel, is a perfect society. There is no war, crime, and hunger. Most readers might take it for granted that the community in The Giver differs from the real society. Today, some women decide to become surrogate mothers of other women s babies because of several reasons, such as sympathy for the couples who cannot have children of their own or financial reason. However, to carry other women s children gives surrogate moms great senses of responsibility. They writhe in not only soreness of body, but also agony of mentality. The psychological pain by giving their babies to other women is greater than that of body. Thus, some surrogate mothers refuse to give up their babies sometimes. The third similarity is that some people want to embrace euthanasia in any society. Here is the release in the community. The release is not a natural death, but the end of life by human being. It is impossible for pure good and pure evil to coexist, and this is apparent in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In this book, we see a racist town of Maycomb in the mid 1900 s react to injustice through the eyes of Scout Finch, a young girl with brother Jem and caring father, Atticus. While young, we see the children of Atticus Finch grow and mature through his teachings and good morals, as well as see them experience and witness the good and evil in their townsfolk. Not only is Bob Ewell a drunk, selfish and abusive father, but he is also inherently evil in the way he destroys his children s innocence by being neglectful, but also Tom Robinson s innocence. His racist way of accusing Tom of rape sends him to a death sentence, when Tom in a desperate last effort to be freed gets shot. Atticus describes Tom s attempted escape as: I guess Tom was tired of white men s chances and preferred to take his own. (315). Tom, as readers briefly got to know, was not the type of man to desperately escape. He was hopeless and could see no other options, as white men s chances was a sure death sentence. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based off the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely with the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned, yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response (i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects; as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and ... Maryland Case Brady Vs Maryland Brady vs. Maryland was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the prosecution had withheld from the criminal defendant certain evidence. The defendant faced his conviction, arguing it had been contrary to the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Maryland prosecuted Brady and a companion, Boblit, for murder. Brady admitted being involved in the murder, but claimed Boblit had done the actual killing. The prosecution had withheld a written statement by Boblit admitting that he had committed the act of killing by himself. The Maryland Court of Appeals had confirmed the conviction and remanded the case for a retrial only on the question of punishment. The Supreme Court held that withholding exculpatory evidence violates due process where the evidence is material either to guilt or to punishment ; and the court determined that under Maryland state law the withheld evidence couldn t have exculpated the defendant but was material to the level of punishment he would be given. Hence the Maryland Court of Appeals ruling was confirmed. A defendant s request for Brady disclosure refers to the holding of the Brady case, and the various state and federal cases that interpret its obligation that the prosecution discloses material exculpatory evidence to the defense. Conclusion Garmin stands to gain from a merger with Trimble. The merger would allow Garmin to acquire a significant portion of the European personal navigation device market share at minimal cost. Garmin has the cash resources to execute the acquisition and while Trimble s finances are in decline for the near term they are expected to remain a solid long term investment. The acquisition would result in an approximate $13 dollar increase in Garmin s stock price, and increase long term equities. Other companies Garmin should consider are KVL Technologies for its opportunity to get ahead of maritime mobile communications technologies, and Roper Industries, which would enable expansion into a new market segment that hedges future losses in the PND market. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bs?s=GRMN http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bs?s=TRMB http:/ /finance.yahoo.com/q?s=rop amp;ql=1 http://wallstreetbean.com/garmin vs tomtom no contest / Garmin ($GRMN) shares took a hit yesterday after Dutch rival ... • 31. Why The Slave Is The Fourth Of September By Frederick... On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address, Douglass points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the way in which American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences, friendships, and observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the participation of blacks in American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many voices within the abolitionist movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the blatant contradictions between the words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized groups were treated by most of the ruling white male population, he was by no means against the principles outlined within the Declaration of Independence or the United Statesas a nation. Douglass s thought was very much an olive branch between the ruling white class and the enslaved and disenfranchised black population. His self made story, inspiring influences, and determination to promote American freedom amongst the many evil aspects in the country he lived in made him one of the most important intellectual figures in the road to abolishing slavery. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland in 1818 to a black slave mother and a white father whom he did not know. From his early days, he was able ... Essay on Surrogate Motherhood Surrogate Motherhood is something that not many people actually support, even though it is one of the many reproductive techniques that have enabled infertile couples to have children (qtd. in Freedman). There are two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. The traditional type of surrogacy involves the surrogate mother being (AI) artificially inseminated with the sperm of the intended father or sperm from a donor when the sperm count is low. In either case the surrogate s own egg will be used. Genetically the surrogate becomes the mother of the resulting child (Storey). One of the main objectives of introducing the euro was to strengthen relations between member states. • 48. Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape from it. In The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood goes through the awful troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953 and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having won an internship in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further into a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict, and symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning thoughts that plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose hope. To begin with, Sylvia Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do with herself after not getting accepted into the writing program of her dreams, which is also when she starts falling into her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness is [Esther s] reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal (Grocott, Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she wants to do with her life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig as a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants all of them, but she realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest. Esther appears bewildered because she doesn t know what life choice to make. The hardships that Esther is enduring appears to be too much for her to handle. Secondly, Sylvia Plath strongly utilizes a beating heart as a metaphor to disclose how Esther just can t find the will to succumb to her depression. When decides to go to the beach on a double date, the thought of drowning herself profoundly crossed her mind. As she was swimming in the ocean she thought: that drowning must be the kindest way to die...but as I paddled on, my heartbeat boomed like a dull motor in my ears, I am, I am, I am (Plath 157 158). There is no way to definitively say whether or not somebody had mental disease that far back into history and whether or not the proposed compromised mental capacity was in fact caused by a genetic default caused by incestuous inheritance. An important point Ager also makes is that even though significant inbreeding would seem likely to produce some sort of genetic compromise, one cannot assume that this is definitely the case. The social taboo of present times would automatically believe that this is an inevitable consequence of these matings, but likely is not the same as inevitable . Combinations of genetic material are random, not determined by a genetically (or divinely) mandated programme of punishment for offenders against the taboo (Ager 10). Another important topic that must be discussed in this debate of gene abnormalities is the very famous case of King Tutankhamen. His mummy was discovered nearly a century ago and his young rise to the throne and premature death has both fascinated and puzzled scholars for decades. Only in the last five years have scientists and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Gay Porn And Pornography Pornography as an industry that has the ability to shape and mold pre teen and young adult lives. Queer porn exists as a fetish, arguably for heterosexual individuals more so than homosexual individuals. Pornography serves as a mechanism for learning about sex and sexual acts for almost all individuals trying to figure out their bodies, but what does this industry actually promote? Gay pornography, as a focus, has formational ties to dominance, the socially constructed closet, and queer death as a whole. Porn exists as a pleasure system that suffices to satisfy sexual proclivities. To get to the root of how porn creates the want for dominance, we also must consider the differences that exists between gay porn and lesbian porn. Lesbian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bersani also speaks about how ...the moral taboo on passive anal sex and how to be penetrated is equal to relinquishing power. The power dynamic that is projected through gay porn also serves as anti female propaganda. The submissive party is usually portrayed as weak, having no control, and the sexual acts are more likely to be seen as being forced upon this individual. From a heterosexual standpoint, the woman is the submissive party. In today s society, a woman is arguably the worst thing someone can be, so when submissiveness is connected to the insertee, one may tend to link that to femininity; the worst thing one can have, assuming femininity is linked to womenhood. While pornography works as a pleasure system, it can also work as a means of support for individuals who are not open with their sexuality. The closet is a socially constructed safety net that protects queer individuals. Positive queer representation in the media is almost non existent, but pornography allows queer individuals to see themselves on a national platform. When queer characters are incorporated in books and on the screen, they usually have tragedy connected to them. In a way, because of this, porn can be seen as liberating; it is a platform that embraces homosexuality and doesn t conclude with queer death or disaster. No, gay pornography is not the saving grace in terms of queer representation, but as discussed in The Celluloid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Wonder Sociological Concepts Wonder One of my favorite movies is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is based off of the inspiration to never judge anyone by their appearance, to stand up for yourself and to not give into bullying. The main character, Auggie Pullman, is a smart 10 year old boy with a facial deformity, who experiences the first time going to a public school. The first important value in Wonder is to never judge anyone by their appearance. Auggie s schedule in the past 10 years, consisted of being homeschooled by his mom, Isabel. Auggie conquered the survival of a car accident, which made Auggie encounter numerous surgeries to correct his face. His surgeries concluded the way he looked. His left eye tugs downward as if a teardrop were falling from it; his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bullying often leaves kids feeling helpless, vulnerable, and confused. Consequently, when kids are bullies they are often shocked by bullying that they are not sure what to do (Gordon, n.d.). Society, unfortunately, has become more focused on the bullies rather than the victims. Judging someone by their looks is NOT okay. How can you judge someone when you do not even know the person? It is from my personal experience, that people are nicer to the rich or middle class whereas others frown upon poor people. Many people make the generalization that poor people take advantage of the state benefits that are offered, which is not true. Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. There is not a single profile of a young person involved in bullying. Youth who bully can be either will connected socially and may be bullied by others as well. Similarly, those who are bullied sometimes bully others. Solutions to bullying are not simple. Bullying Prevention approaches that show the most promise confront the problem from many angles (Government, n.d.). Take the time to get to know someone before you judge or bully them. • 56. The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to study how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved hurting another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to authority as this was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War II. 40 males were chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The experiment was carried out as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they were all actors the pairs drew straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who would be acting as a teacher. This part of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing participants would always be the teacher the pairs were split up into seperate rooms where the learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has already learned a list of word pairs that were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a word and asking the learner to recall its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time the learned made a mistake. There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The teacher did not know, but the shocks were not actually administered. The learner made mistakes on purpose, and faked harm when they were electrocuted . If the teacher did not want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Analysis His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization, order and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the writing of William Goldings Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilizationis the conch. Once that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are talking about what has happened and why they are on this island. While walking on the beach, the main character Ralph then proceeds to find a shell which the two boys call the conch. Blowing on this shell Ralph calls a meeting where the boys lay out rules and decide they need a signal fire to be rescued from this island on which there are no adults and no females. During the meeting Jack, a choir boy, decides to organize a group of hunters to hunt for food. As the story progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the lord of the flies begins to emerge within the group, many of whom begin to take on savage behavior, and end up killing Simon. Jack then decides to go and start his own tribe; he and a lot of the others do so. Even as the conflict increases between the two rivals, there is ongoing respect for the conch. The same savages later killthe character Piggy who was not doing anything to them except trying to get his glasses back that were stolen to make the fire. Then they try to kill ...
