Climate Change: Risks & Opportunities in the Canadian Commercial Real Est...scottbrooker
The document discusses how climate change poses risks and opportunities for the commercial real estate market in Canada. It notes that commercial buildings are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. While significant potential exists to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions from buildings, adoption of energy efficiency measures has been slow. The document outlines emerging climate change regulations in North America that could affect the commercial real estate sector. It also discusses risks related to regulatory non-compliance, reputation, and financial impacts that owners and operators should manage.
The document discusses an introduction to multimedia lecture covering multimedia files, video compression, and multimedia process scheduling. It introduces multimedia files, how audio and video are encoded in digital formats, video compression standards like JPEG and MPEG, and real-time scheduling algorithms for multimedia processes like rate monotonic scheduling and earliest deadline first scheduling.
1) Alfred Wegener first proposed the theory of continental drift, which suggested that the continents were once joined together and have since drifted apart.
2) Wegener provided geological, fossil, and climate evidence to support his theory, but could not explain the force driving continental movement.
3) In the 1960s, the theory of plate tectonics was developed, explaining that convection currents in the mantle cause the movement of tectonic plates, resolving the issue that prevented acceptance of Wegener's theory.

There are four main states of matter: solids, liquids, gases, and plasma. Solids have a definite shape and volume, with particles vibrating in a fixed position. Liquids have a definite volume but indefinite shape, as particles slide past one another. Gases have indefinite shapes and volumes, as particles move rapidly away from each other. Plasma is the hottest state and consists of ionized gas particles that are electrically charged.
Homeaway is the largest online marketplace for vacation rentals, connecting homeowners and property managers with travelers looking to book properties. It operates websites in over 100 countries and has listings for over 145,000 vacation rental properties. Homeaway generates revenue by charging annual subscription fees to homeowners and property managers to list their properties. It aims to continue its growth by expanding its global reach, pursuing strategic acquisitions, and improving the customer experience on its platform.
The document describes an activity where students model plate tectonics using a candy bar. They crack the chocolate to represent lithospheric plates and pull it apart to expose the caramel representing magma. When plates are pulled apart it models divergent boundaries, when pushed together it can model convergent boundaries forming mountains or one plate subducting. The activity aims to demonstrate how the flow of material in Earth's asthenosphere causes plate motions.

This document describes a lighting design called "Jelly in a Bubble" created by Lone Stidsen. The design features a mouth-blown glass bubble that wraps around a jellyfish-shaped filtering object to create unique lighting and shadow effects. The materials are chosen to mimic the light qualities of jellyfish. The bubble can house different filtering objects to allow for customization. It provides ambient, glare-free lighting from LEDs and is intended for use in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. The design aims to be an environmentally friendly and cost-effective lighting solution.

Accounting For GHG Emissions In The Commercial Building Sector Finalscottbrooker
In a multi-tenant commercial building with multiple owners, managers, tenants, and some sub-metering of utilities, determining responsibility and accounting for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions can be complex. Whose emissions are they? Generally, owners are responsible for emissions from building operations under their financial control, while managers are responsible for emissions from tenant operations under their operational control, such as through a property management agreement. Tenants are typically responsible for emissions from their own activities within their leased space.
Deposition is the process by which eroded material is deposited elsewhere. As seen in the examples, erosion and deposition often occur very close to each other, such as material from a landslide or riverbank being deposited downstream. Rivers, glaciers, and underground water all transport sediment through weathering and erosion which is eventually deposited elsewhere through processes like delta formation or glacial till. Over long periods of time, these continuous cycles of erosion and deposition can significantly change the landscape.

Soil is made up of weathered rock and decayed organic matter that provides nutrients for plants to grow. It forms over time as bedrock is broken down by weathering and inhabited by soil bacteria and fungi, whose remains along with dead plants are broken down into humus. Soil is important because it supports nearly all life on land by providing habitat and nutrients, and it must be conserved since it develops very slowly and our supply is limited.
The document discusses the experiences and roles of women in India over time. It mentions how women have faced challenges like lost childhoods due to sibling care responsibilities, tough social norms, and feelings of helplessness. However, it also notes that women find laughter in carefree moments and see their household duties as jobs to take pride in. The document outlines how women have progressed to roles like getting married, working hard, and respecting rules while also seeking change and equality. It recognizes women as breadwinners, potential managers, and talents not defined by gender who can make a difference in areas like defense, politics, science, and entertainment.
The document discusses the key factors that influence weather and climate on Earth, including heat from the sun, atmospheric gases, and their interactions. It explains that the sun provides visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and infrared radiation that warm the Earth's surface and atmosphere. Gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere contribute to the greenhouse effect by trapping heat. The amount of solar energy reaching different locations on Earth depends on latitude and time of year due to variations in the sun's angle and the spread of its energy across larger areas.
Folded mountains are formed by the convergence of two continental crust plates, which causes the rock layers to fold upward. Examples include the Himalayas, which were formed by the Indian plate colliding with the Eurasian plate. Convergent boundaries can also occur between oceanic crust and continental crust, or two oceanic crust plates, resulting in volcanic mountain ranges like the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.
Cardiovascular system or the circulatory systemsnozza66
The transport system of the body includes the heart, blood vessels, and capillaries. The heart is a muscular organ located behind the sternum that pumps blood throughout the body using valves to prevent backflow. Blood vessels branch throughout the body, with the smallest capillaries being barely the diameter of a single red blood cell and numbering over 10 billion. This network of blood vessels allows every cell to be close to a capillary to exchange oxygen, nutrients, waste, and more, keeping the body functioning.
The document discusses the present simple tense. It provides rules for forming the third person singular in the present simple tense by adding -s or -es depending on the verb. Examples are given of verbs that follow each rule. Common time expressions used with the present simple tense are also listed, including frequency adverbs and phrases referring to daily, monthly, or weekly habits.
