ICT can be an effective tool in science education when used to facilitate good pedagogy, not as the focus itself. It can help with differentiation, assessment, motivation, thinking skills, resource sharing, collaboration, enrichment, practical skills, research, and developing independent and 21st century learners. However, ICT is not always popular and is sometimes met with suspicion, so it is important that it only be used as a tool to support existing teaching methods.

The 21st century education context is generally characterised by three elements that constitute what is called the 21st Century Learning Framework. As can be deduced the key-defining feature of 21st Century education is that it is learner-centred.
