4. The company
Ecofieldtrips Pte. Ltd. is a Singapore-based
company which was set up by Bridget Hedderman and
Helen Newman in 1997.
A team of specialists, biologists and geographers;
consisting of qualified divers and first aid trained,
accompany the students on the fieldtrips

9. Luggage
All luggage should be quot;softquot; luggage and your son/daughter
should be able to easily carry their own luggage. Should have a padlock.
(1) Electronic items - I would strongly advise you not to allow your son/
daughter to take these on the trip. The ethos of the trip is to communicate with
others in the group and enjoy the sites of the quot;great out doorsquot;. It is doubtful that
pupils will have time to play on electronic games and they will not be allowed to take
them on the daily fieldtrips. ipods are acceptable.
(2) Mobile phones: I am happy to be a point of contact for parents during the
trip, so students should not need to take their own mobile phones. Please let me
know if you would like your son/daughter to take their mobile phones. There are
phones in the room.
(3) Insect repellent - I would strongly advise you to purchase DEET based
insect repellent and for your son and daughter to have a good supply. Remember
Langkawi is not at present listed as a malarial zone, but please consult with your
family doctor if you have any worries in this respect.
(4) Carry on luggage - money to buy water and snacks after security,
medication.
12. Money
• Upto 400HKD spending money - 180 Malaysian Ringgit.
• We will collect money in named envelopes before the trip
• Money will be rationed each day

14. Meals
Day 1:
Dinner: at La Playa-beach restaurant next door to hotel-chicken/beef dish plus potatoes, salad, fruit
Day 2:
Breakfast-eggs, toast, cereal, fruit
Lunch-fishfarm-fish, chicken, fried rice, fruit
Dinner: Italian-spagetti,pizza,salad, fruit-outside caterer at Hotel (excellent food from nearby good Italian
restaurant-I know the owner well)
Day 3:
Breakfast-eggs, toast, cereal, fruit
Lunch-packed sandwich, cereal bar, fruit
Dinner: Indian-buffet-various dishes but all not too spicy-I chose the menu myself
Day 4:
Breakfast-eggs, toast, cereal, fruit
Lunch-chicken platter, salad, bread, fruit
Dinner: Chinese restaurant-buffet-excellent choice of at least 7/8 dishes
Day 5:
Breakfast-eggs, toast, cereal, fruit
Lunch-traditional Malay lunch in PADI field
Dinner: farewell BBQ dinner at beach, salad, fruit
Day 6:
Breakfast-eggs, toast, cereal, fruit

15. Medical Information
• Langkawi is not at present malarial - consult doctor if in doubt
• We would strongly advise children to have the following
vaccinations - consult doctor if in doubt.
• Hepatitus
• Typhoid
• Tetanus
• Polio
• TB
• Please let your children carry one set of medication in
their hand luggage and also place a spare set in their
luggage and give a spare set to us with instructions prior
to the departure - prescriptions are necessary.
16. Medical Information...
• School will purchase HSBC Travel Insurance - will cover diving
and also Tree Canopy adventure.
• Emergency Action plans have been planned with Ecofieldtrips:
Air evacuation to hospitals on Langkawi or to the hospital on
Penang.
• Any additional medical worries then please let us know.
• We will ask for Blood Group information for a medical card
that will be carried by teachers and the pupils before the trip.
17. Diving Specific information
• All dives will be no more than 12m in depth
• All pupils already have a qualification in diving so a medical form
is not necessary, however I would prefer it if parents went
through the exercise of completing a PADI medical form with
son(s)/daughter(s)
• There will be 2 instructors and 1 Divemaster looking after the
group. A ratio of 1:6.
• Junior Open Water Divers will buddy with Mr.Ferguson
• All students must take their Certification Cards and provide
details of their last dive
• I can organise a refresher session through a company in Hong
Kong if there is a demand
