Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Erasmus interview to the familys and students by gabriella
1. “PutYourself in my shoes” Projectnumber: 2017-1-ES01-KA219-037891
INTERVIEW TO ERASMUS+ FAMILIES AND STUDENTS
PRE-MOBILITY QUESTIONS
1- Did you have to think a lot about participating
in the project?
In reality I didn't have to think about it a lot
because right away I wanted to be part of this
incredible project and I jumped at the opportunity
presented to me. My choice to participate was
also strongly supported by my parents, who in
the past having already had this kind of experience with my older brother, encouraged me
even more making me understand that these experiences are incredible but above all they
leave a huge cultural bag that will contribute to
our growth in a very positive way.
2- What were the reasons that encouraged you to
participate?
-Certainly among the reasons that led me to
participate is the desire to meet new people
from other countries, as in this case from
Portugal and Spain. There is nothing more
beautiful than meeting and living days with
these guys, comparing with them, exchanging ideas, even discussing important issues such as
immigration. Another motivation was to improve the English language (official language of
the project): we know that nowadays one of the most important languages in the world is
English, therefore also in the field of work it is necessary to be present in the Curriculum Vitae
especially in my case since I would like to work as an architect abroad.
2. “PutYourself in my shoes” Projectnumber: 2017-1-ES01-KA219-037891
3- Did you receive enough
information about the participation
in the project and mobilities?
Yes, I must say that the whole
coordinating team of the project
has done a great job in informing
us about everything: from host
families to the activities we would
have done, from flight schedules and things to carry in our suitcase to information
about our partners. Even during the bureaucratic operations in the period before
the departure, the coordinating professors of the project, made us fill out a sort of
personal card that contained a bit about who we are, what we like to do, a sort of
summary of our personality, hobbies, general information on our family. In my
opinion it was really useful because thanks to this they were able to choose our
partners in the most compatibly possible way, and indeed it was.
DURING MOBILITY QUESTIONS
4- How would you rate the attention of the host families?
-I think my host family has been excellent on
everything. They were always present and treated
me like a daughter. Many evenings we met for dinner
to talk for hours and were interested in knowing
where I came from, my school, my family ... if I were
to give an evaluation in tenths I would give it 10 out
of 10!
3. “PutYourself in my shoes” Projectnumber: 2017-1-ES01-KA219-037891
5- What activities have you liked the most?
-We really visited magnificent places, but the activities that I liked most were the
ride in the cable car and the catamaran excursion. I really enjoyed doing the cable
car ride because from up there you could see much of the island and from any point
you could see the immensity of the ocean ... an absolute spectacle! The catamaran
ride was a lot of fun because we all lay on the net in the front of the boat, but with
every wave that came we bathed and every time it was a bet on who would be next
... during the excursion we took lots of photos and luckily the day was pretty sunny.
We saw Madeira from another point of view, and admiring the coasts, the
neighboringislands, the verdantflora present in abundance, with planes flying right
over us and seeing them land made that day unforgettable.
6- How would you rate the attendance of the accompanying teachers?
The teachers who accompanied us were always available and accepted any of our
requests. They have been attentive to
everything and everyone and have taken care
of the details.
7- Would you have liked to do something
different or would you propose new activities?
-No, I wouldn't change anything because it was
absolutely perfect in everything! All the
activities carried out were impeccable in the
organization; we all had fun and we had fantastic moments.

POST-MOBILITY QUESTIONS
8- Do you think that your interest in knowing new countries and cultures has
increased?
Of course yes! This journey has fueled in me a desire to learn about new cultures,
new traditions, new peoplelike never before.Nowthat Madeirahasalso been added
to the list of places I have visited, I do not want to do anything but enrich it as much
as possible, always taking with me the immense cultural baggage that I have trained
up to now and keeping it always open to welcome new experiences to put in!
9- Do you think that the linguistic competence in a foreign language has increased? I
believe that thanks to this experience my English has improved a lot because living
in local families youhaveto somehow communicate in a language other than Italian,
and the only choice is English, unless you know the language of the state where you
are. I really enjoyed communicating in English with the family that hosted me even more
because my partner's mother is an English teacher so I also got to learn new rules and
accept suggestions to speak the language correctly.
10- Would you recommend the experience to future families and students?
I wholeheartedly advise all future students or families who want to participate in
Erasmus projects like this to do so; Do it because it really changes you inside and
out, you will change your way of seeing so many things, in your way of thinking ...
when you come back, you will not be the same people as before. I would like to say
to host families: welcome young peoplefrom other parts of theworld because it is a
unique experience that will allow you to understand new values, new cultures and
why not new languages. You will find that once you add another boy to your family,
even for a short time, you will treat him and consider him as a child and you will
create a strong bond of affection, I assure you! So don't hesitate to say yes!
11- Would you add any additional comments?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet new guys like Antonio, Chiara,
Giulia, Chiara Nicolò and Sofia. I met them during the first mobility and a good

relationship was born immediately between us, increased with the trip to Madeira.
They were fantastic and even in difficult times we put each other strong.
I would like to say thank you to Guilherme, my partner for having really been a
gentleman and for always being available. A special relationship has been created
between us, like between brother and sister, andover the past few months we have
often heard each other and it was he who made this trip perfect. I really love him
and his fantastic family. I believe that I will never forget all the moments spent
together and I hope that one day we will meet again, I don't know where, I don't
know when, but it will happen.I could notwish for abetter partner! Thank you very
much Erasmus for making me live unforgettable moments!
