This document describes a retrospective study of 24 retinoblastoma patients seen at a tertiary eye care center in Gujarat, India. Key findings include: - The majority of patients were from rural areas (95.9%) and had lower socioeconomic status (91.8%). - Most common treatments were enucleation (removal of the eyeball) and exentration (removal of the eye contents). - Patients presented with advanced disease, having symptoms for a median of 3.9 months before seeking care. - The study concludes earlier detection is needed through health education and training of local eye care providers.

2. Method:
 A retrospective observational case series of all
consecutive retinoblastoma patients seen at a
tertiary teaching community (tribal community)
eye care center in North eastern Gujarat.
 The medical records were reviewed and analysed
for data regarding socio- demographic factors,
symptomatology; and treatment modalities.

3. Inclusion Criteria's :-
 All consecutive RB cases were included.
 Cases diagnosed elsewhere where sufficient clinical
Information was available, were also included.
Exclusion Criteria's:-
 Unproven cases of RB were not taken into current study.
 Cases diagnosed elsewhere with insufficient clinical
information or presenting to us for cosmetic rehabilitation
were excluded.
 The demographic and prior treatment details were recorded.
The symptoms and their duration were also recorded.

4.  The stage of disease in
patients who did not
undergo full work-up was
considered as
‘unclassified’.
 The analysis was
carried out using the
Statistical Package for
Social Studies (SPSS 17)
and univariate as well
as non-parametric
methods.

12. Conclusion:
 The neglected cases in our setup presented
from rural and from lower socioeconomic
status.
 In order to detect retinoblastoma, as early as
possible, health education for parents and
health providers, and improved training of
ophthalmologists is essential.
