SPECIAL NEWS
 U.S. Department of Labor reported today that the advance
figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 278,000 for
the week ending January 31, an increase of 11,000 from the
previous week's revised level. The previous week's level
was revised up by 2,000 from 265,000 to 267,000. The 4
week moving average was292,750, a decrease of 6,500 from
the previous week's revised average. The previous week's
average was revised up by 750 from 298,500 to 299,250.
There were no special factors imp acting this week's initial
claims. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemploy-
ment rate was 1.8 percent for the week ending January24,
unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The
advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemploy-
ment during the week ending January 24 was2,400,000, an
increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level.
 The economists at the European Commission, the EU's ex-
ecutive arm, said the euro zone should grow 1.3% this year
and 1.9% in 2016. In November, they expected growth of
1.1% this year and 1.7% next. The commission raised its
growth estimates for most of Europe's largest economies,
including Germany, France and Spain. Inflation is set to re-
main subdued in 2015 as low commodity prices dampen
the headline figure.
COMMODITY BUZZ
 US crude-oil supplies jumped by 6.3 million barrels in the
week ended January 30 to413.1 million barrels, the US
Energy Information Administration said Wednesday. This
was a stronger gain than expected and the stockpiles con-
tinue to linger at their highest leveling more than three
decades. In terms of seasonal variations, the current data
puts the inventories at highest levels in nearly 80 years.
Distillate stocks, including heating oil and diesel fuel, rose
by 1.8 million barrels while Gasoline supplies also edged
up by 2.3million barrels. For the past week, crude imports
averaged 7.4 million barrels a day, down by 34,000 barrels
a day from in the previous week. Refineries were running
at 89.9% of capacity,
 Copper came under the grip of Bears in domestic market,
with prices correcting more than 1.5 percent. The metal
has seen choppy moves during the day and has slipped be-
low the levels of Rs 350 per kg. The last ticks for Copper
when checked were at Rs 347.3 per kg, down 2.11%.In
major news, China's central bank made a system-wide cut
to bank reserve requirements on Wednesday, the first
time it has done so in over two years, to unleash a fresh
flood of liquidity to fight off economic slowdown and
looming deflation.
