Thecountry'ssugaroutputhasincreasedby22percentto5.6lakhtonnessofarinthe2014-15season,industrybodyISMAsaidtoday.Thetotalsugarproductionstoodat4.62lakhtonnesinthesameperiodofthe2013-14season(October-September). Thegovernmenthaspeggedoverallsugaroutputat250.5lakhtonnesforthisseason,whiletheISMAhasestimatedtheproductionat250-255lakhtonnes.Theestimatesarehigherthan244lakhtonnesofsugarproducedinthe2013-14season.Thedomesticrequirementisaround247lakhtonnes. "Crushinginthenewsugarseason2014-15hasjuststarted... MostofthesugarmillswhichhavestartedcrushingareinMaharashtra,KarnatakaandGujarat,"theIndianSugarMillsAssociation(ISMA)saidinarelease.MillsinUttarPradesh, thecountry'ssecondbiggestsugarproducingstate,areexpectedtobeginthecrushingoperationbythismonth-end,itsaid.UPmills,whichhadthreatenednottostartoperationsthisseason,areexpectedtobegintheirfactoriesasthestategovernmenthaskeptthecanepriceunchangedatthelastyear'slevelandhasalsoannouncedsometaxconcessionsandfinancialassistancetosugarmills,itadded.TheISMAsaidthataround141sugarmillsoutofthetotal509wereoperatingtillNovember15ofthisseason,asagainst108millsinthesameperiodlastseason.Sincetherewouldbeanestimatedsurplussugarof20lakhtonnesintheongoing2014-15season,theindustrybodysaidthatitisawaitinggovernment'snodoncontinuingexportsubsidyforrawsugarandalsohelpmillstoconvertsurplussugarintoethanolwithincentive.

Sentimentimprovedfurtherastheinvestorsenlargedtheirholdingstrackingthesurgeinthedemandforthecommodity.CorianderiscommoninSouthAsian,MiddleEastern,CentralAsian, Mediterranean,Indian,Tex-Mex,LatinAmerican,Portuguese,Chinese, African,andScandinaviancuisine.

However,comfortablesuppliesmaycapsharpgains.JeeraDecembercontractsurgedupby1.94percentto12610onNCDEX.AreaunderjeerainGujaratwasreportedat455,000haasagainst335,200halastyearwhileabout390,000haweresowninRajasthan.ExportordersaredivertedtoIndiaduetoGeo-politicaltensionsinSyriaandTurkey. ProductionisalsoexpectedtofallinSyriaandTurkeyduetocropfailure.ExportsofJeerabetweenApr-July2014stoodat58,000tn,up40%asagainst43,898tnbetweenApr-July2013,accordingtothestate-runSpicesBoard.AccordingtoIBIS,India’sJeeraexportshavecrossed1,00,000tonnestillFeb’14.ProductionofJeerain2013-14isexpectedaround45-50lakhbags(55kgseach),higherthan40-45lakhbagslastyear.

COTTON ARRIVALS AT KEY SPOT MARKET National & International Market Update
CottonmarketnoticedmixedtoneonTuesday.ThemajorcottonproducingnationsincludingIndia,ChinaandPakistanareworriedaboutthecrashingofcottonprices.Pricesofcottoninthesecountrieshavefallenbyaround25- 30%.Asthesituationishurtingcottongrowers,thesecountrieshavestartedtakingstepstorescuethefallingpriceseitherbymarketinterventionorbypresentingsubsidiestothefarmers.Farmersofagriculturecropsincludingcottoncouldfacetroublesellingtheirproduceatminimumsellingprice(MSP) asNAFED,themainagencywhichundertakestheMSPprocurementisthroughtheseverefinancialcrisis.TheNationalAgricultureCooperativeMarketingFederationofIndia(NAFED)facingtheliquiditycrunchwhichismakingitimpairedtogoforanyMSPoperation.BesidesthesumofRs.300crorewhichisowedtoitbycentralgovernment,ithastheholeofRs.1200croreinitsaccountsbookduetoaninvestmentfraud.CottonproductioninIndiawouldbearound405.50lakhbalesthisseason(Oct’14-Sep’15) comparedto407.25lakhbalesaseasonago,accordingtoCottonAssociationofIndia(CAI).ThedeclineinthecropoutputisanticipatedduetofallinproductivityinGujarat,themajorcottonproducingstateinIndia.AccordingtoCAI,Gujaratislikelytoproduce126lakhbalesofcottonthisyearcomparedto129.25lakhbaleslastyear.
ChinamonthlycottonimportshitsitsfiveyearlowinOctoberthisyear.Thecountryhasimported81,900tonnesofcottonintheOctobermonth,42% lowerwhencomparedtosamemonthlastyear.Also,forthefirsttime, monthlyimportofthefiberfellbelowthelevelof100,000tonnessinceOctober2010.BesidesthedelayedharvestinmajorexportingnationsincludingIndiaandUSA,therestrictiononsubsidizedimportshasloweredtheimport.Chinalimitsthelowtariffimportupto2.3milliontonnesthisyearwhichwas4.2milliontonnespreviousyear.
