2. Presentation
• ERADYM SA is a special
purpose vehicle, which was
established to carry out the
project "Study,
Construction, Maintenance
and Operation of the
Installations of the
Integrated Waste
Management System of the
Region of Western
Macedonia" and consists of
50% of the companies
HELECTOR SA. and AKTOR
CONCESSIONS SA
members of the ELLAKTOR
SA Group.
3. • The Waste Processing Unit (MAA) is located in the
Southern Field of the Western Macedonia Lignite Center
of Western Macedonia and, with the support of the
network of 10 Regional Waste Transmission Stations,
processes all the Urban Mixed Waste of the Region with
a maximum capacity of 120 kt.
5. PROJECT
BACKGROUND
• January 2011: 1st Auction Phase
• December 2014: EU Decree AKTOR CONCESSIONS
SA - HELECTOR SA as a Defender
• June 2015: Signing of the contract - starting 2 years of
construction
• June 2017: Completion of construction - start of 25 years
operation
• June 2042: Expiration of the Convention
6. Conventional Framework
• It is the 1st Integrated Waste Management PPP in
Greece
• The contracting authority is DIADYMA SA - Regional
Timetable FTMS
• The contractor of the investment is EPADYM SA
8. WASTE TRANSMISSION
STATIONS
• The waste is collected by the municipalities at the 10
Waste Transfer Stations. From there, it is transported to
the Waste Management Unit by special refuse trains.
9. RECEPTION UNIT
• The MEA is unloaded in the Reception Unit, where the
automatic gripper gantry system feeds the moving
floor and the waste, after removing the bulkhead, is
taken to the Engineering Sorting Unit.
10. MECHANICAL
SAMPLING UNIT
• Here is the separation of the recyclable products, the
organic material to be composted and the waste that will
end up for burial in the landfill, using a rotary and a
vibrating sieve.
11. • For the further separation of recyclable materials, the
waste passes through optical and ballistic separators,
which are used to recover streams of paper, plastic film
and rigid plastic packaging, while at the end of the series
the magnets retrieve ferrous bodies and alumina
separating aluminum cans.
12. • All recovered materials end up in the quality control
cabinets, where any impurities are removed, and then
bundled to make them easier to dispose of.
13. UNIT OF BIOLOGICAL
PROCESSING - COMBUSTIBILITY
• The organic fraction is passed to the Composting Plant
for biological treatment in closed, horizontal bioreactors,
where it remains for about 2 weeks in a controlled
environment of temperature and humidity. This method
results in a hygienised and stabilized organic material.
14. COSTUME COOKING
HOUSEHOLD
• This material is delivered to the Curing Roof using a
loader and spread over trapezoidal piles where it
remains for at least 6 weeks and is stirred when the
temperature and humidity conditions require it
15. REFINERIES UNIT
• . The stabilized product is ultimately led to the Refinery,
where the mature compost is separated from the
various impurities (hard plastics, gravel, aggregates,
plastic film, glass), which are collected and led to final
disposal in the landfill as waste products . Compost
produced is now fully refined and suitable for final
disposal
16. BURIAL OF WASTE
• Remnants of the Waste Treatment Unit are led to the
adjacent Sanitary Landfill Residual Area, which is fully
sealed and has a leachate collection network as well as
a collecting system for the effluent.
17. DRAINAGE AND
DECORATION SYSTEM
• Dust and odors are discharged from all enclosed waste
treatment areas and processed in central dusting and
decontamination systems to reduce emissions to low
levels so that staff can work comfortably, safely and
without risk to their health . At the same time, it is
avoided the release of dust and odors outside the
building
18. WASTE PROCESSING
UNIT
• The whole of the Waste Waste produced in the plant is
led to a special Treatment Unit. Wastewater feeds
biological treatment bioreactors, and then undergoes
physicochemical treatment, with the aim of recovering
water suitable for industrial uses in the project and
irrigation needs of green areas.
