The Environmental Advances in Mining Program (EAM) is a 7-year, industry-driven program aimed at reducing costs of infrastructure, closure, and treatment as well as de-risking emerging technologies through funding and demonstration projects. The program focuses on mine effluent treatment, acid rock drainage/metal leaching prediction and prevention, mine closure, sensing and monitoring, and environmental friendly extraction processes. Projects are initiated through a two-step process involving a non-technical value proposition document followed by a scope of work outlining goals, timelines, and deliverables. The National Research Council invests in the program through co-investment with industry.
