these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and

- 2. How does environmental stability resonate for me? I am an avid backpacker and outdoorsmen. I love to get out into nature for days and feel most at home amongst the trees, flowers and wildlife. Every year I go out I see more and more trash along the sides of trails and clearcutting of trees. It upsets me to know that my nephews may not get to enjoy the serenity of the mountains.
- 3. How can my interest be applied locally? • I feel like getting the next generation involved into the outdoors and showing children the impact of our ignorance and greed is having on our planet is the best way to curb our reliance on resources that have a damaging effect on nature. If we can change the minds of children to value our planet more than profits then those children may grow up to make a change.
- 4. Where can I personally make the greatest difference? • If making the greatest difference is measured as reaching the most people, I feel like making a informational YouTube video or Facebook page dedicated to cleaning up our parks and trails. If making the greatest difference is measured in actual environmental improvement, I can only control my own actions, and doing things like picking up trash while hiking and driving a more environmentally friendly car would have the greatest impact.
- 5. Is there a feature of social media that can be uniquely applied to this goal? • In the aforementioned slide I thought that a YouTube video would be best suited toward reaching the most people. If a YouTube video was done well enough to go viral it may start a environmental movement that could reach our government, effectively changing policies. If enough people cry out against the destruction of our planet the government has to listen right?
