                                        THE TREESWING NAME
Remember the days when kids walked home from school, had a quick snack, and then ran out-
side to play? We do. We chose the name Treeswing to remind us all of “the good old days”
when children soared on the tree swing in the back yard or biked to their neighbor’s house to
play. Today, too few communities have sidewalks to bike on, and television and video games
have replaced kickball as children’s activity of choice. Families rushed for time don’t sit down to
dinner together anymore, choosing meals handed out the drive-up window of a fast-food outlet.

                                            ELEVATOR PITCH
Treeswing is a Seattle-based, nonprofit organization committed to improving children’s health by
promoting increased physical activity to combat the growing prevalence of childhood obesity
and its devastating physical, social and societal impacts. Treeswing’s educational efforts, advo-
cacy and innovative, targeted programs help create balanced, healthy and supportive environ-
ments for children by removing barriers to daily exercise within homes, schools and commun-
ities.
 Our passion is protecting and cherishing childhood
 Our focus is improving the health and wellness of our children
 Our vision is to build generations of healthy, active communities
 Our goal is creating environments to support our children’s health

                                           A NEW APPROACH
At Treeswing we believe healthy change is about more than altering behaviors—it calls for en-
gaging families, communities, government and business leaders to shape new environments
that support healthy choices. Treeswing partners with institutions and organizations at all levels
of the childhood-obesity issue to leverage resources and create opportunities to effect systemic,
sustainable change. Through the development of research-based, scaleable models that can be
easily replicated and implemented by other organizations, we serve as a catalyst for fostering a
lifetime of healthy habits and healthy families.
