INTRODUCTION
“We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back”
MALALA YOUSUFZAI
As Malala has rightly said above, women are equally capable of contributing in
every sphere as men are.
Women empowerment is not creating reservations for women in different
aspects but it is to treat men and women impartially in every possible sphere of
life. A major oppression that the 21st century working women face is of being
payed lesser than their male counterparts for the same job profile. Some justify
this choice of payment of the employer by saying that most males are the
breadwinners in their respective households but contrary to popular belief there
are hundreds and thousands and probably even more households in India and
worldwide where women are the breadwinners of the family.
Women have constantly proven themselves to be worthy of being treated as
equals to men. Women Empowerment has to be practiced in various fields such
as in Politics, in the society, in religion and in the economical aspect.
In Politics ,women wishing to pursue a career in politics find it almost impossible
to gain the support of the common man and the government electoral bodies
because of the popular belief that women are incapable of undertaking
humongous responsibilities as in this case ,being a representative of thousands of
people and meeting their needs and wishes.Hence, Political Woman
Empowerment is to make sure that during the polls the candidate’s gender or
name shouldn’t be revealed to the electing body and only their qualification
,credentials, achievements and the support that they have obtained through
extensive campaigning must be looked at.In a nutshell the election should be
made unbiased and the opportunity to take up major political portfolios must be
given to women if they have proven themselved worthy of the position with the
required expertise.
6. 6 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
In the Social Sphere, the idea of gender equality has to be promoted in india.Since
india is a country wherein women have been potrayed as lesser human beings for
several centuries and are still believed to be lesser human beings in the rural parts
of India.
“Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths, creating
an environment in which violations against women are justified,” former
President Jimmy Carter noted in a speech last month to the Parliament of the
World’s Religions in Australia. Rightly said by Jimmy Carter ,such oppressive
norms in religion are a major inspiration for people in an extremely religious
country like India to treat women as inferiors.
In the economic sphere, females are payed lesser than their mal counterparts for
the same job profile as mentioned earlier. Women are also limited to rise to
greater posts despite their capability to manage that portfolio because many
companies believe that women may not deliver upto the mark.

PROJECT REPORT
This report attempts to analyze about the different public opinions
about the
“WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN INDIA” which is also our assignment
topic.
We have taken some interviews of different people engaged in
different sectors, So that we can get to know about their opinion about
the given topic. We have choosen some individuals around different
parts of INDIA, and we have taken interview through online mode(the
places which are far away from our native place). While taking the
interviews we have seen varities of answer from different individual
and they have also given us suggestion about the women
empowerment and what changes India need to make. We know that
every individual have their own point of view so does they and their
point of view (POV)
reflects different story from each other which are mentioned in this
project and we have analysed all the opinions and we have observed
that in our day to day life how women become victimized by various
social evils. Women Empowerment is the vital instrument to expand
women’s ability to have resources and to make strategic life choices.
Empowerment of women is essentially the process of upliftment of
economic, social and political status of women, the traditionally
underprivileged ones, in the society. It is the process of guarding them
against all forms of violence. The study is based on purely from
secondary sources. The study reveals that women of India are relatively
disempowered and they enjoy somewhat lower status than that of men
10. 10 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
in spite of many efforts undertaken by Government. It is found that
acceptance of unequal gender norms by women are still prevailing in
the society. The study concludes by an observation that access to
Education, Employment and Change in Social Structure are only the
enabling factors to Women Empowerment.

PUBLIC OPINION
As We have mentioned earlier that we will be taking some
interviews around the country of different people from
different proffesions. So, here is the list of the people whom we
have interviewed-
1. VIDHI PANDEY( TEACHER)
2. SUBHAM JAIN (SOFTWARE ARCHITECT)
In the next we have mentioned about how the interview
went and what we have asked them and what were their
responses in our question and we have also mentioned
about the individual whom we have interviewed so that
others can get the information from where they came and
what they are doing with their lives. So, following is the
detailed interview and how it went-
13. 13 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
VIDHI PANDEY: A TEACHER
Vidhi pandey is from Guwahati, Assam but currently living in Jaipur , Rajasthan
she is working in an NGO as a teacher. She teaches disabled kids who is in need
for education and she provides them that. When we came to know about this
project we knew that Vidhi will be a perfect person to start interview sessions
with as she lives in jaipur she know the condition of women in Jaipur and as she
lived in Guwahati too so she would be able to differentiate between the two
cities.
We started our interview by asking the basic yet important question “Do
Women Need Empowerment” she ofcourse replied by saying yes.
When we aksed her about the present condition of women in our society/nation
she said that India is developing and so does societies belief but yet in rural India
people still thinks that women should only remain to household activities and that
need to be developed and this need to be changed as soon as possible.
When we asked about “Why Women need Empowerment” then she said womens
are also human being they are not different and they should get an equal
representation in all spheres.
The next question we asked her “What is the situation of women in your
workplace does they get an equal representation” the answer to that question
actually makes us proud as she said the NGO which she is working for is totally
managed and controlled by women.
The 2nd
last question we asked her was what difference you have find in the
situation of Women In Jaipur compared to Guwahati , she said that in Guwahati
people are into development of women then Jaipur. Other than the main area of
Jaipur in many parts people still thinks that women should be confined only to
household activities.
The last question was some sort of situation based which also comes under
situation which was “ If you ever get the chance to be the head of state what
14. 14 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
would be your 1st
step towards women Empowerment”. She Instantly said
EDUCATION which is the most important task to do she will teach women about
their capacity what then can do or contribute to the country and that was exactly
I expect from a Teacher’s Point of View “EDUCATION”.
And then we concluded the interview by thanking her for giving her valuable time
for the interview.
15. 15 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
SUBHAM JAIN: A SOFTWARE ARCHITECT
In the 21st
century all we are surrounded by is TECHNOLOGY so we decided to
Interview a person who is in that field and not only that he lived in various places
across India from rural India to cosmopolitian cities. He was born in a village of
Rajasthan (Lichana) than he moved to Guwahati then again he went to
Kota(educational hub) then BITS PILANI for his Bachelor’s degree then went to
places like Pune, Hyderabad before settling down to Bangalore. As he went to
different places and stayed he is much aware of the condition of women and
need for Women Empowerment in India and that’s the reason why we have
chosen him.
The 1st
question that we asked him was similar with what we asked to Vidhi which
was “Do women need Empowerment” without taking any time he replied
“Women do need empowerment and in country like India it is a must!.
Then we proceed to the next question we asked him “What reminds you when
you think of women in our society” he replied by saying that “when I think of
women in rural India the word comes to my mind is HELPLESS and when I think of
urban society the word comes to my mind is INDEPENDENT” it was correct
without a doubt because women in urban India are Independent.
Then we asked the question “Is Self help groups (SHGs) in rural India is a major
step towards the women empowerment” he replied by saying “Pardon me I don’t
have any knowledge about SHGs” then we told him about the SHGs after that he
said “THANKS because of you guys I came to know about SHGs” then we said
welcome by appreciating his Kindness.
Then the next question pops up which reads “What is the condition of women in
your workplace does they get an equal representation?” he replied by saying that
“In my company all the people get equal representation and here people get
judged by their work not by their gender”.
16. 16 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
The next question we asked him was “ As you have been to many places across
India, which place you found where women are more independent” he said
BANGALORE as the majority of the population in Bangalore is working population
and most of the women are also working in different sectors so according to him
he finds Bangalore as the most suitable place for women who is working In
corporate sector.
At last we asked him the situation based question “If you were given a chance to
be the head of the state what would be your 1st
move towards women
empowerment” he said he will work on the IMPLEMENTATION OF LAWS he finds
out that in our country laws are there for safeguarding the rights of women but
the laws are not implemented very well”.
He also responded very well to us by giving his precious time from busy schedule
for the Interview and we are very thankful for such effort.

CONCLUSION
Thus, the attainment in the field of income / employment and in educational
front, the scenario of women empowerment seems to be comparatively poor.
The need of the hour is to identify those loopholes or limitations which are
observing the realization of empowerment of women and this initiative must be
started from women folk itself as well as more importantly policy initiative taken
by the state and society. Let us take the oath that we want an egalitarian society
where everybody whether men or women get the equal opportunity to express
and uplift one’s well being and well being of the society as whole. Women’s
empowerment is not a Northern concept women all over the world, including
countries in South, have been challenging and changing gender inequalities since
the beginning of the history. Struggles have also been supported by many men
who have been outraged at injustice against women. Women represent half the
world’s population and gender inequality exists in every nation on the planet.
Until women are given the same opportunities that men are, entire societies will
be destined to perform below their true potentials. The greatest need of the hour
is change of social attitude to women. “When women move forward the family
moves, the village moves and the nation moves”. It is essential as their thought
and their value systems lead the development of a good family, good society and
ultimately a good nation. The best way of empowerment is perhaps through
inducting women in the mainstream of development. Women empowerment will
be real and effective only when they are endowed income and property so that
they may stand on their feet and build up their identity in the society. The
Empowerment of Women has become one of the most important concerns of
21st century not only at national level but also at the international level.
Government initiatives alone would not be sufficient to achieve this goal. Society
must take initiative to create a climate in which there is no gender discrimination
and women have full opportunities of self decision making and participating in
social, political and economic life of the country with a sense of equality. The 2
Intervies that we have both of them comes from different parts of the country
both have been raised in different environment but they do know about the need
18. 18 | W o m e n E m p o w e r m e n t
for women empowerment. They tells us about the condition of women in our
society, condition of women in their working place , Condition of women in their
area.Though we haven’t visited their place but we do get to know about the
condition and got the basic idea about the condition which is really important to
get to know about different places as well. It was a good experience we both have
learned about something and most importantly got the experience of how to take
an interview and which will benefit us in rest of our lives. When in other time
when we will give or take an interview we will feel more confident at that time
and it will be because of this assignment.
