Engineering materials can be classified into two main categories: metallic and non-metallic materials. Metallic materials include ferrous metals like iron and carbon alloys, and non-ferrous metals which are heavier like copper and nickel or lighter like aluminum and magnesium. Non-metallic materials include building materials for construction like stone and cement, energy materials for power generation like water and coal, and miscellaneous materials like rubber and plastics.
