Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was an Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918 who is celebrated as the Engineer of India. He received India's highest honor the Bharat Ratna in 1955. Every year on September 15th, Engineer's Day is celebrated in India in memory of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, who helped design flood protection systems and dams, and was knighted for his contributions to public service.
