ear Friends,
Club Enerji, has entered its 8th
year of successful
operations and has reached out to over 480
schools in India. It has sensitized over 9.3 million
citizens, who in turn have helped save more than
14.2 MUs of electricity till date. This saving is
equivalent to saving 14,200 tonnes of CO2 and is
enough to light up over 6,943 houses for a year. The
Club has a total of
1,59,103 Energy Champions and 2,04,719
Energy Ambassadors. In 2014 alone, Club Enerji
formed 1250 mini Clubs across various schools.
The programme also has a strong and exciting
online presence through its website, Facebook and
Twitter page. I take this opportunity to thank each of
you, it would not have been possible without your
support and active participation.
Club Enerji has consistently grown over the years. It
has won numerous accolades and has been
recognized as a best practice in various forums. A
case study has also been done by I I M
Ahmedabad on the programme. While these gr
a tifica tions ha ve esta blished the credibilit
y a n d effectiveness of the programme, it has
placed a much larger responsibility of sustaining
the current values of the property and taking the
concept to a higher level. We have completed our
syllabus on Waste Management and will be stepping
into the last leg of the energy puzzle, afforestation.
Taking this further, together we will move to next
level of excellence by being responsible citizens
and contributing towards a better India. With this
thought in mind, we have designed our new module
on how we can conserve energy and natural
resources (including fossil fuels like gas, oil, etc.),
have good civic and moral values and in turn
contribute towards nation building.
We will also have our annual Principals' and Mentors'
Meet in the month of July and recognize the
schools, mentors, champions, and everyone
behind the success of the programme. We will also
ensure that the valuable feedback received through
this is acted upon to make this programme better.
With such strong intent and motivation, let us all
gear up for the coming year and make it a grand
success.

Summer Power Workshop, 2015
Club Enerji organised the first edition of its annual
‘Summer Power Workshop’ on 16th May, 2015, in
Mumbai, Tata Power Trombay, Community Hall. The
annual event aimed to reach out to a larger audience
who may or may not be a part of the schools Club
Enerji has already reached out to. The work shop
was designed to be informative and engaging through
multiple sessions on various subjects of energy,
resource and civic & moral values conservation.
The first edition saw participation from stakeholders
like, customers (parents along with kids), employees
(parents along with kids) and community. There were
over 55 participants who made the workshop a
success with their enthusiastic participation. The
session began with a brief introduction on Club
Energy, post which the children and the parents were
taken for a visit to the bio-gas plant located in the
Trombay colony. They were taken benefits and
adaptability of the process
Post this they were taken to the organic compost pit and the
soak pit within the colony and were told how to do
vermicomposting. The participants were also shown how the
lawns in the colony were made using bottom-ash following
which they were taken for a tree plantation drive.
The demos and sessions were conducted by Mr. Appanna
Codanda, Lead – Horticulturist, Tata Power, Mr. Pramod
Sawant, Lead Associate - ES&A, Tata Power and Mrs. Veena
Bakshi, Club Enerji, Educator. The participants were given
handouts on how to conserve energy, resources and civic and
moral values and be responsible citizens. The workshop was
concluded with experiences and testimonials shared by
participants and handing out certificates of participation.

Wall Mirror Using Old Bottle Caps
Collect lots of bottle caps. Just ask your mom not to
throw the caps away each time she opens a bottle of
cold drinks. Once you have about 100 of them, pain
them all in 3 different colors and arrange them in a
mosaic to make an attractive mirror like this for your
room. This is one of the Idea to create a best wall mirror
using the waste old bottle caps. You could even gift it to
your elder sibling for his hostel room. I am sure he/ she
will love you for this.
Popsicle Stick Photo Frame
Use 4- 8 popsicle sticks to make this super cute picture
frame for your room by sticking 2 of them along each
edge on a 9” X 12” sheet of paper with glue. You can
paint different patterns on the sticks to make your frame
look extraordinary.
I have used only 4 sticks here. You can use any number
of them for the frame you make.
Wall Mirror For Boys' Room
if boys do not quite like the mirror we have shown
above and want something more flashy and colorful
for their room, they can try something like this for their
room.
Bookmarks Made out of Popsicle
Sticks
Make some cute looking bookmarks for your
grandparents using popsicle sticks, wiggly eyes, glue,
felt tips pens and the bits and pieces of fabrics you can
find in your mom’s DIY kit.

• India’s forests are able to sustainably meet only one
sixth of the country’s demand for fuel wood.
• Before we started to build cities many centuries ago, they say that
60% of the Earth was covered in Forests. Now, there is less than
10% left.
• Every minute, forests the size of 20 football fields are cut down.
• Every disappearing plant takes with it 10 to 30 other animal
or plant species dependent upon it for survival.
• Causes of loss of biodiversity –increasing human population
–increasing consumption levels –decreasing efficiency of
use. All these lead to overexploitation and manipulation of
ecosystems, which, through a chain of events, culminates
in extinction of species
There are many ways to help save the
forests that are remaining.
• Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. If we recycle the
products that come from trees such as
paper, then we can use them over and over
again. There will be a lower demand for
products made from trees.
• Buy from companies that are environment friendly.
They don't ruin our environment just to
make money.
More: Consequences of Depletion of Natural Resources
• Try to eat less meat which requires grazing lands – another reason why forests are cleared.
• Buy products made out of recycled materials.
• Do not buy newspaper or magazines. Read them online.
• Buy furniture and wood that is Certified. This means that the wood was legally cut down.
