INDEX
The Index is a tool designed to measure performance over time of your energy
management approach.
We’ve structured the index to provide a score out of 100 in terms of how your
energy management approach is structured. We have a bespoke questionnaire that
we complete to be able to provide you with these results. We also have an
accompanying benchmark (of energy costs as a % of turnover) which we can
provide for which would need some high level data from you.
We present the results against sub-categories so you can obtain insight into where
your energy management can be improved. We can also show you the Delta (the
difference) that our services can make and what your next 12 months action plan
might make to your energy management.
At the end of this short explanation of the Index, we include what we think 100 as a
score looks like. We’ve intentionally set out something we think is achievable.
THE ENERGISE INDEX
12. PAGE
ENERGISE
INDEX
To undertake the Index, we need the following from you:
1. Time (15-20 minutes) from someone who has an
understanding of your current energy management, to
complete an online survey
2. Your total energy expenditure for the last period you have it
completed
3. Your total turnover for the same period as the energy
expenditure
From that, we can provide you detailed insight into where your
energy management can be improved, how we might be able to
support you and where the next focus should be.
13. PAGE
The report/summary contains three key outcomes:
1. Your score (out of 100)
2. Your energy management radar (outlining performance out
of 100% of the score in each category)
3. Your benchmark (showing the % of your P&L spent on
energy costs compared to a sector benchmark data set that
we have compiled)
This report is kept at a high level. The detailed actions proposed
to improve your index score/benchmark position are
summarised at the end.

CRC COMPLIANCE
We offer a complete CRC compliance service whereby we manage your organisation’s
participation in the Scheme from qualification, including reporting and maintaining your
evidence pack, to give you peace of mind that you are meeting all of the requirements of
the Scheme.
ESOS COMPLIANCE & POST ESOS SERVICES
ESOS is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK that meet the
qualification criteria. Organisations that qualify for ESOS must carry out ESOS assessments
every 4 years. These assessments are audits of the energy used by their buildings,
industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures.
CARBON FOOTPRINTING
Carbon Footprinting is becoming of increasing importance to business, partly driven by
some businesses having a mandatory requirement to report, but many businesses are
finding that their environmental risks are material to their operations and supply chains,
or are likely to become so.
ENERGY CERTIFICATES
Energise can assist you in complying with your EPC, DEC and TM44 ACI requirements as
part of the UK’s compliance with the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
(EPBD).

25. ANALYSE
MONITORING & TARGETING
Energy efficiency as an industry follows the rule that “you cannot manage what you
cannot measure”. Our monitoring and targeting reporting provides feedback on
performance, operating practices and early warning of unexpected excess use.
WEB REPORTS
EnergyManager online allows you to access your energy use from anywhere, at any time.
Our clients use this to allow individual sites to view energy consumption graphs and
reports, to enable savings to be made by operators at a local level. The system is
configurable so that they can only access certain graphs and reports, and customised
reports can also be created.
REMOTE ENERGY AUDITS
Our remote energy audits produce an analysis of the performance of a site by conducting
a remote analysis of their performance using energy performance data, and data made
available to us on the building. The reports include a portfolio ranking (the relevant site
against its peers), an end energy use analysis, a “consumption map” and
recommendations for savings.
MEASUREMENT & VERIFICATION
Once you’ve invested in an energy project, we want to help you justify the investment and
show the benefits. This service is about measuring the savings reliably, and providing you
with a verifiable result to report back to internal/external stakeholders on the success of
your project.
UTILITY GAP ANALYSIS
Our utility “GAP analysis” service is a one-off review of your energy and carbon
management records. Issues from poor energy performance, compliance risks, and lack of
engagement can often stem from the records behind your energy and carbon
management programmes. We have found that obtaining a good baseline position, and a
clear set of recommendations for improvement

ENERGY SURVEYS
Energy Surveys and Audits can vary from a basic walk around (survey with simple
paybacks) to full investment grade audits focusing on particular areas of high energy use.
A typical Energy survey/audit will identify around 15-20% energy savings
STRATEGIC ADVICE
A good set of a well-written policy and dynamic & effective strategy combined will allow
your organisation to identify simple low or no cost and ensure that you can look in detail
at more innovative energy saving actions and your investment planning.
ADAPTABLE ENERGY MANAGER

resource provided to you. The flexible nature of the agreement means we can focus on
the priorities that arise at the time. The service is the equivalent of having an in-house
energy manager,
ENGAGEMENT & AWARENESS
Our engagement and awareness services focus on delivering culture change as part of
achieving your energy and carbon management objectives.
RENEWABLES FEASIBILITY
Our renewable feasibility studies provide you with an understanding of which renewable
technologies would be suitable for your site(s) and how that opportunity can be
developed into a reality.

SIMPLIFIED
We can provide you with a full energy management
solution, including energy saving asset finance
via our partner DLL Group (part of Rabobank Group)
Our vision for this service is that our clients can
define their energy management needs, and we can

the service required to occur on a cash generative basis
for a fixed monthly payment.
For your energy efficiency projects,
you won’t pay until you start to save.
For the advice you’ll receive, you will receive
money back if the targets agreed
are not achieved (terms apply)
29. Self-Funded
Surveys
If you want to undertake energy
audits (to understand the opportunity
available) or you need to (for
compliance, e.g. ESOS), we can build
a self funded programme. If you take
projects forward from the audits, the
survey costs can be embedded in the
finance arrangement, if you decide
not to proceed, you only pay for the
audits on completion.

We can provide a complete
energy management package “off

financed through a finance
agreement and an accompanying
consultancy agreement, backed
by a performance guarantee. For
a fixed monthly cost, you get a

Change Projects
If you have existing energy efficiency
projects you want to enable to
happen, and you want to finance

capital expenditure, then we can
arrange change project packages.
We can provide bolt-ons to support
you with procurement/contractor
management, project management
and verification as required.

Kier Group employs over 24,000 people in its operations in the UK and
overseas. The UK portfolio is greater than 300 sites consuming around 500
GWh of energy in the United Kingdom. As a large organisation, Kier has to
participate in different schemes (inc. CRC, GHG Reporting and ESOS).
SOLUTION
Energise were commissioned to provide a central database, and then
provide energy and carbon management advice. The remit for Energise
from day one has been about providing a central point of contact,
coordination and compliance work for the group,
covering a wide variety of schemes, both compulsory and voluntary.
OUTCOME
Kier’s progress is apparent from recently being listed in the Carbon
Disclosure Project Leadership Index. Kier achieved a Carbon Disclosure
Project (CDP) 2015 disclosure score of 99, up from 89 in 2014, making it
into the FTSE 350 CDP leadership Index, the only FTSE 350 Construction

36. CHALLENGE
The University of Reading, located in Berkshire, is one of the UK's leading
research-intensive universities and is in the top 1% worldwide. As part of a
plan to gain greater control over the University’s energy consumption, a
decision was made to obtain ISO50001 certification.
SOLUTION
Energise ran through a mock audit; inspected buildings and equipment;
interviewed key personnel; examined evidence; identified weaknesses; and
offered expert advice.
OUTCOME
Following the work carried out by Energise, The University was one of the
first Universities to pass ISO50001 certification without a single
recommendation being made. They now have a working operational energy
management system communicated to and implemented by everyone in
the organisation.

37. CHALLENGE
Since its formation, iNTERTAIN has had the strategic aim to take a whole-
organisation approach to reducing their cost of energy and water. Energise
were able to assist them in their target setting, originally aiming for a 37.5%
reduction in electricity and gas by 2017 (compared to 2008), which
increased to 38% due to its success.
SOLUTION
Energise’s approach to reducing the energy use of iNTERTAIN’S buildings
has been to tackle specific areas of technology, with heating, air
conditioning, ventilation, lighting, and refrigeration being the key
areas that have been reviewed.
OUTCOME
Energise helped iNTERTAIN look to the future and over the next couple of
years we aim to continue to run the programme on or above target. The
potential savings are considerable and from 2016 onwards the annual
saving will be just over £775k on a like for like basis.
