Gravitational wave astronomy research aims to improve detection of gravitational wave sources using AI models trained on LIGO data and HPC resources. Key challenges include non-Gaussian and non-stationary LIGO noise in the high dimensional parameter space. Researchers harnessed open source LIGO data and trained AI models on Summit using up to 1024 nodes. This allowed processing one month of LIGO data in 7 minutes and detecting all binary black holes with no misclassifications. AI inference can search data 53,000 times faster than real-time.
