MIDTERM REFLECTION
ANDR EA HENAO
FUNCTIONAL OUTLINE
• The functional outline was perfect, it helped me understand what
every paragraph should really be consisted of. It also helps me stay
on topic very well when writing a memo or a letter. Without this
outline, I would just be looking at writing as what I have gotten used
to over the years, but this helped me see how much better my writing
can be.
• This is significant because it is a great outline to look at to help write a
great paper and stay concise through the whole thing.
• My goal for the future is to be able to write great memos, letters etc..
without having to refer back to the outline
5 C’S
• Clear, concise, complete, correct, courteous
• These 5 C’s help me know how my whole paper should be written.
When I finish writing my papers, I look back at my rubric and make
sure my paper has all of them or I go back and fix what I can.
• The 5 C’s are extremely significant because you should refer to these
whenever writing a paper. They help you be aware and in control of
what you are writing.
• They have been so helpful so far in my
school career and will be even more
helpful when I start my career
CHAPTER 1
• I learned that I need to think of my audiences needs first, also the
different types of writing
• Also the 5 steps to successful writing
• Preparation, research, organization, writing, revision.
• I learned these things by reading chapter 1 and doing writing
assignments for the class that helped me understand everything
much better
CHAPTER 1 CONT’D
• Learning these things is significant in a way that it will help me better
understand how to write papers and how to be very concise and not
add unnecessary information.
• In future courses, I will be able to write better papers in and in the
business world. My goals will be to keep improving my writing and
learning more from reading the text.
CHAPTER 2
• In this chapter I learned that in the workplace, you need to adapt to
new technologies. There are far more than I ever imagined, but
learning how to compose everything for a certain type of writing is
extremely helpful
• Also selecting the right form of medium is helpful
• I learned this by having to write different types of papers (i.e.
persuasive, memo etc..)
also by being tested on the
reading
CHAPTER 2 CONT’D
• Learning this matters because if I want to be professional in my
writing, I will want to send the right style of writing to a specific person
• In the future this will help because if I have to write an email, memo,
persuasion or have to leave a voice mail message, I will know
the right and professional way to do so.
CHAPTER 4
• In this chapter, I wrote a complaint paper. It helped me understand
that you cant sound mean or rude in the writing. You have to explain
the problem nicely, but still explain what the problem is while letting
them know you are upset.
• Learning this matters because before I took this class, if I were to write
a complaint to a company or person, I probably wouldn't’t have
been as polite as I learned I should be
• This will help me greatly in the future
because I'm sure I will have to send
more complaint letters in my life
CHAPTER 10
• In this chapter I learned all about style and clarity in writing. I was
able to identify the causes of wordiness and being tested on this
chapter really emphasized the importance of writing to me.
• This information is significant because its good to have knowledge of
the right kind of style for writing and making clarity a big importance
when writing.
• This is going to be helpful in my future writing because I will know
exactly how to word things and keep my paper clean of mistakes
and confusion
CHAPTER 7
• I learned how documents and/ or websites should be designed and
how the layout should look. Graphs can be your best friend, but you
need to know which graph would work best for what you are trying to
display
• Being tested on this and writing a paper also helped me learn it a lot. It
put everything about design and visuals into perspective for me and it
is very helpful.
• This information is significant because
now I know what to look for if a
have to critique or praise a design
or layout.
