Fooling The Eye: Brunelleschi, Alberti & Linear PerspectiveProfWillAdams
Linear perspective is a technique for creating the illusion of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface that was developed in 15th century Florence by Filippo Brunelleschi and Leon Battista Alberti. Brunelleschi demonstrated the principles of linear perspective through a painting of the Florentine Baptistery that created an optical illusion to fool the eye. Alberti later codified the technique by establishing rules for artists to follow, such as placing objects along diagonal lines that converge at a single vanishing point on the horizon. This system revolutionized painting by allowing for realistic depictions of space and became widely adopted by Renaissance artists.
Friends of the Earth Supply Chains ScreencastDan Cunningham
This document discusses how global resource use and consumption are increasing despite decoupling from GDP growth. It notes that while individuals should not feel guilty, companies must take responsibility for measuring and managing their environmental impacts throughout their supply chains, including land, water, and greenhouse gas footprints. The document advocates for legislation requiring large companies to publicly report on risks and resource use in their operations and supply chains in order to better manage their impacts.
Course books are an important teaching tool but require supplementation. Teachers have several options for using course books, including omitting lessons, providing their own material, or adapting what is in the course book. When choosing a course book, teachers should analyze several areas like price, extras, design, skills coverage, and cultural appropriateness. Consulting other teachers and students is also important for selecting the best fitting course book. While course books are useful, teachers should not rely solely on them and should bring in additional resources to engage learners.

There are two main types of projections: perspective and parallel. In perspective projection, lines converge to a single point called the center of projection, creating the illusion of depth. In parallel projection, lines remain parallel as they are projected onto the view plane. Perspective projection is more realistic but parallel projection preserves proportions. Perspective projections can be one-point, two-point, or three-point depending on the number of principal vanishing points. Orthographic projections use perpendicular lines while oblique projections are at an angle. Common parallel projections include isometric, dimetric, trimetric, cavalier and cabinet views.

Education for sustainable development has evolved from United Nations conferences that highlighted the importance of education in achieving sustainability. There is a difference between education about sustainable development, which is transmissive, and education for sustainable development, which is transformative and aims to promote sustainable behaviors and problem solving. Education for sustainable development seeks to integrate sustainability values across all aspects of learning and encourage system-level changes through interdisciplinary, participatory, and values-based approaches.
1) The document discusses the Academic Consultancy Training (ACT) course at Wageningen University, which equips students to develop and execute real-world sustainability consulting projects through collaboration.
2) ACT engages nearly 1,000 students annually from 19 programs to work on about 150 projects providing advice to societal and private organizations on challenges.
3) The hybrid learning model of ACT involves students, academics, and external organizations forming teams to address a real issue, applying skills like problem-solving, collaboration, and reflexivity.
This document discusses strategies for youth engagement and social change, including a leadership training program and an Action Week toolkit. The leadership training involved group dynamics, project management, and understanding social issues. Several youth leaders went on to work in social sectors after the program. However, some motivated young leaders did not find their place in existing youth centers. The Action Week toolkit is an 8-step guide to help youth groups build skills through activities like groupbuilding, listening, choosing issues, learning, planning, taking action, and celebrating accomplishments. The document acknowledges influences from theories of youth organizing and critical pedagogy.
This document provides information for parents and students about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at a school. It discusses the IB learner profile, which describes desirable student attributes like being inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and balanced. "Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
