This document describes two case studies that used the StepUp! tool to track engineering students' online activities and engage them in reflection. In a thesis case study, 12 students used StepUp! for 1 week, and in a CHI case study, 27 students used it for 6 weeks. StepUp! tracked time spent on activities like blogging, commenting, and paper sharing. Students completed evaluations with questions about their own awareness and others' activities. Evaluation results showed higher system usability scores for the longer CHI case study. The document concludes that StepUp! helped increase student awareness and reflection, and that time and social data were reliable traces for tracking activities.
