CAFOD provides both short-term emergency relief and long-term development assistance. For short-term relief, CAFOD works with local partners to provide food, shelter, water and healthcare to people affected by conflicts and natural disasters. CAFOD then helps communities rebuild essential infrastructure and supports livelihood programs to transition relief into long-term development. This can include building homes, schools, and job training programs. CAFOD aims to work in communities for the long-term to ensure sustainable improvements to standards of living.

1) Rambati, a woman from Karkhana Tole village in Sunsari, Nepal, recalls a devastating flood in 1990 when she had just given birth and had to stay in a dangling bed for two days without much food.
2) The village is prone to frequent flooding and other disasters that damage homes and crops. There was no disaster management system previously.
3) With support from a local NGO, the community formed a disaster management committee and began collecting "fistfuls of rice" daily to stockpile food for emergencies. Rambati is an active participant in these efforts.

Six months after the tsunami, families were still being provided temporary shelter until permanent housing could be rebuilt, and communities worked to prevent future disasters through emergency planning.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
