The document discusses different types of war such as holy/religious wars, just wars, and pacifism. It outlines the rules of a just war including that war must be a last resort and proportional. Pacifism believes all war is wrong. The document also discusses why society needs punishment for crimes for protection, deterrence, retribution, and reform. It defines capital punishment as the death penalty and notes Christians believe only God can take a life. Finally, it provides a brief overview of Amnesty International and the human rights issues it campaigns for.

2. Types of war:
Holy/ Religious wars- fights between religious
groups; arguing there religion is better or tells
them to fight.
Just War- a war that is justified, and is the last
resort after other action has been taken.
No War- Pacifists who say all war and violence
is wrong.
3. Rules of a just war
Conditions:-
1) War must be started by the authority of the
state of ruler.
2) Just cause: there must be a reason why those
being attacked are so.
3) The war promotes good or evil. Peace and
justice is restored afterwards.
4. Christian rules added later:
Once all solutions are tried, war must be the
last resort.
The war must be ‘proportional’ for the side
being fought.
There must be a greater gain than the evil
that led to war.
5. Pacifism
A pacifist believes all war and fighting is
wrong. Sometimes during remembrance
day, they may wear a white poppy instead of a
red one.
Quakers are the most associated with
pacifism. They are a Christian church that is
completely pacifist.
6. Why we need punishment
Society will punish those who
Exodus 21:23-24

injury, you are to take
life for life, eye for
Protection- To protect
eye, tooth for
tooth, hand for
society.
hand, foot for foot.”
Deterrence- may stop the criminal from
committing crimes again.
Retribution- Victim’s revenge/ getting your
won back.
Reform- a chance for the criminals to try
again and change for the better.
7. Capital Punishment
Capital Punishment is the death sentence;
punishing a serious crime, with no chance of
repent or reform.
Christians believe that only God has the right
to take a life.
There are many arguments for an against
capital punishment
