This document discusses several ship accidents and emergencies that occurred along the Indian coast and provides recommendations to improve maritime emergency response. It summarizes 5 ship accidents between 2007-2010 involving collisions, groundings, sinking, and cargo losses. These resulted in significant loss of life and pollution. The document also reviews international conventions on prevention, response, and compensation, as well as India's AIS network and rules for entering ports. It concludes by recommending that India ratify conventions, improve response capabilities with dedicated vessels and funding, enhance use of technology like AIS, and establish a coordinator like authority for maritime emergencies.
