This document provides information about an Extra Masters online course launched by The Company of Masters Mariners of India (CMMI). The course consists of 4 parts that can each be completed in 3 months. Part A will begin on May 15th and consists of 3 modules on leadership, economics, and law. The course fees are INR 25,000-30,000 depending on CMMI membership. Students can access online classes and materials through a website and participate in live video conferences to ask questions. The goal is to provide continued education opportunities for seafarers to obtain higher qualifications.

7. CMMI launches EXTRA MASTERs on-line classes
15th May 2019
In line with our objective to promote and foster continued professional development of Seafarers, CMMI is pleased to
announce the launching of "EXTRA MASTER's on-line classes". Those desirous to obtain higher qualification are
welcome to register themselves for this course.
Bookings for this course can be made on-line through our website www.cmmi.co.in (or you may visit our office in
person).
The typical EXTRA MASTER's on-line classes (syllabus as prescribed by DGS) shall consist of three Parts, in addition
a dissertation (optional).
• Each Part will take 3 months + exams = 4 months duration. Passed Part will be valid for lifetime.
• Examinations will be conducted and COC will be issued by The Directorate General of Shipping, Government of
India.
• On-line classes for Part A will commence on 15th May 2019.
• A typical batch will consist of 20-25 students. Bookings will be confirmed on First Come First Serve basis.
• Although the complete course is on-line but the students will be able to speak to the lecturers frequently to clear
their doubts.
• Presently, the course will be available only for candidates holding Indian Certificate of Competency.
• (Master's license of other nationality may be accepted at a later date, shortly).
• The course fees will be INR 25,000 plus taxes for each Part for CMMI Members.
• The course fees will be INR 30,000 plus taxes for each Part for Non - Members.
• Classes for MBA will be announced shortly.

13. AA) How to apply:
Pls go to CMMI website (www.cmmi.co.in) - fill up form & pay the fees.
Pls confirm with office about your enrolment for EM. We will start Part A – EM101 on 15th May.
Pls also see DGS circular 1 of 2019 for detail syllabus.
BB) How to attend course:
It will be made available on Line to Participants (User ID & Password will be given) for self-study.
Course Co-ordinator will be available on every Saturday & Sunday (through VC, Skype or CMMI office) To clear your
doubts & advise you to refer some books for extra knowledge and discuss case study.
CC) Exam.
Once you finish Part A (Em 01, 02 & 03) – DGS will conduct Open Book Exam in 4th month.
Once you pass then go to Part B & then to Part C.
Passed part will be valid for life long but you will get certificate only after passing all parts.
Exam will be held in MMD Mumbai only.
DD) Only requirement is that you should have Indian Master (FG) COC.
Yes you can attend provided you have facility of Internet on board.
EE) Part D - Dissertation:
Guide for dissertation is recommended but not Mandatory.
However topic of dissertation needs to be from the maritime domain & is required to be approved by Chief
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

System has already been accessed by 16 Participants with 125+ Hits in 10 days.

16. Enter your ID and Password provided by CMMI.

17. You will be presented with various options.
By hovering the mouse over the images, the explanation will appear of the link.
By default, as a new user all the 4 Parts “A / B / C / D” are pending. You have to click on PART A to continue.

18. Once you have clicked on the PART A module, you will be presented the list of Sub-Modules in Part A.
e.g. in the image above, we are presented with the EM101 Sub-module “Management, Human Resources and
HR”.
Click on the OPEN button to view the list of the Sub-Topics inside the Sub-module.

20. Above, you are presented with the list of Topics.
By default all the topics are Pending.
Click on the Open button to view and read the Topic content.

21. Once you click on the Open Button, the topic content is displayed.
You can view and read the topic content. Download / Print / Copy is not allowed.
There is a timer and assessment to be completed before clearing the module.

22. Once the module is cleared, the stats of the module will change to DONE.
You can review the module again by clicking on the DONE button.
The cleared assessment is valid for 1 year, unless there is a revision or version change.

23. Now we have clicked on the 2nd Topic to view / read.

24. After, we have cleared the 2nd topic, the status of the topic changes from “OPEN” to “DONE”.
You will have to clear the other topics in similar fashion.

25. Once all the Sub-modules and topics are cleared and passed, the status of the module will change from RED to
GREEN.
You will have to clear the all the 4 PART in similar fashion.
Please Note: At any given time, the system logs in your Date-Time Stamp, Credentials, IP Address and Physical
location in order to have a verifiable and auditable record keeping of your system usage.

26. Video Conference (VC) Live classes were launched on 23-May-2019.
1. We had 10 participants attending the VC session on day 1
2. It was basic introduction, guidance and technical setup resolving session
3. From CMMI, it was attended by :

Mr. Danchand Sharma (ExtraMasters.Com and Video Conference solution provider)
4. Majority of the participants were travelling
5. 2 additional participants with very low internet speed, attended the VC by audio only
6. Some of the participants did VC from moving Car by using mobile phone.
7. The session was recorded and the recorded video will available online as a reference for all
8. It was a very convenient way of learning for all participants
9. The next VC session is planned for 01-June-2019.
