Now when we are at the beginning of the 21st century what will we see in the coming decades? There is strong evidence that technology is still very primitive and that we will see more progress in the 21st century than all progress of mankind combined.
In this lecture we look into the future and look at the trends that are will shape the world in the near future. We will look at technology that dies and jobs that are changing.

If your job is to make things for the web, and the company you work for doesn’t build fitness trackers, or robots, or smart light bulbs, or a cloud service that aims to connect all these things, you could be forgiven for not caring all that much about today's Internet of Things. My aim with this talk is to shift the conversation away from things and back to people. In doing so, I hope to also arm you with tools to better understand, and find your place, within this complex but fascinating landscape.

We suddenly live in a strange and wonderful nexus of digital and physical. Touchscreens let us hold information in our hands, and we touch, stretch, crumple, drag, and flick data itself. Our sensor-packed phones even reach beyond the screen to interact directly with the world around us. While these digital interfaces are becoming physical, the physical world is becoming digital, too. Objects, places, and even our bodies are lighting up with with sensors and connectivity. We’re not just clicking links anymore; we’re creating physical interfaces to digital systems. This requires new perspective and technique for web and product designers. The good news: it’s all within your reach.
