Eilis Dillon was an Irish author born on March 7, 1920 in Galway. She wrote several acclaimed novels throughout her career including The Lost Island in 1952, Children of Bach in 1992, Across the Bitter Sea in 1973, The Island of Horses in 1973, and The Singing Cave in 1959. Dillon was admired for her love of writing and dedication to Irish literature as she wrote many books that celebrated Irish culture and history despite facing hardships as she grew up in rural Galway and later lost her husband in 1969.
